"we built it out of everything, anything we could find." a project that's consumed months of work here in rick schrank's shop class. today it was rolled out for its first test drive dohoney: "it didn't have the turning radius we would like to have." the steering will be sorted out over the next month or so, but the independent suspension worked well. it will have to to handle the challenging terrain of camp in huntsville, alabama. they'll be going up against high schools and colleges from across the globe. schrank: "you know it gets our kids from virginia city, nevada isolated on top of this hill to huntsville, alabama to an international setting. it's the most awesome all-around school project that i've seen in 27 years of teaching." there's still work to be done, but there's confidence in this buggy and the team that put it together. rick schrank, teacher: "when you have a kid who's using tools to build a car from scratch and then go compete with it against other kids from around the world. it just doesn't get better than that." ed pearce kolo 8 news now. another local school is also entered. the academy of arts, career and engineering has also done well in the past. we'll let you know how both schools do. bishop manogue students once again took part in a kindness project... that ended with a big surprise for one unsung hero on campus. for the last month, bishop manogue students took part in the "dude be nice" inspired kindness project. students performed ramdon acts of kindness today the students surprised an unsuspecting person on campus... the school custodian. "i don't know how they kept the secret we're talking about high school kids."
