'we the people' town hall at piper's opera house in virginia city this morning.. in fact it just wrapped up a couple of minutes ago.. we will have more on his visit tonight on kolo 8 news now at 4:30 and 5. ted cruz is holding a rally this afternoon in elko. after that he'll be at the boys and girls club in reno for a rally at 7 tonight. cruz also has rallies planned in fernley, minden and carson city tomorrow. and marco rubio will be in elko for a rally this morning before heading to reno for a rally at the peppermill. that event begins at 12:30. he then heads to minden for another rally this afternoon. and finally, donald trump will speak at a nugget casino resort. morning. for more information about these campaign date caucus coverage... com and click on hot topics. nevada senator dean heller is endorsing marco rubio now that jeb bush had dropped out of the race. senator heller says he's convinced rubio can unite conservatives to beat the democrats in the general election. other bush supporters announced that they would also switch to rubio's team including representative mark amodei and assembly majority leader paul anderson. our community is mourning the loss of nevada senator debbie smith. she passed away yesterday at the age of 60. she began treatment for a malignant brain tumor a year ago. she was was first elected to the state assembly in 2000 and won a seat in the senate in 2012. politicians from across the state have expressed sorrow over her passing. sparks mayor geno martini said in part quote " she was so brave and strong as she is a great nevadan who will be missed but will never be forgotten." and governor sandoval saying in part... "we heard a loud boom and the bus went up in smoke probably 30 feet in the air." this mega bus traveling from chicago to minneapolis exploding just minutes after the 40 people on-board evacuated. "it was full of black smoke when i got off to catch my breath the bus blew up." panicked passengers - watching as their belongings go up in flames. that's at the center of a new study. more --reporter pkg-as follows-- healthier employees...and as a wellness programs are hot! according to a study published in the annals of internal medicine - big companies are now offering some form of get their workers to participate. looking at how such programs can be more effective... researchers gave nearly 300 people a 7- thousand step goal to keep up during a 13- week-challenge. the study participants were broken up into groups... one got one dollar and forty cents for each day they hit the 7- thousand step goal. the second group's participants were entered into a daily lottery -- they could only win if they met the third received $42 upfront each month -- with the caveat that participants lost one dollar and forty cents for each day they failed to meet the 7-thousand step goal. researchers find? the group that was money excercised more. one physician involved with the study says it's all how the reward is framed...adding that our brains are wired to avoid losing things...and we like the immediate gratification of getting the money upfront. i'm andrew spencer. if you're trying to lose weight, the bathroom scale can sometimes feel like your enemy. but research is saying that maybe we shouldn't fear the scale so much after all. but a recent study published by researchers at cornell university suggests that frequent weighing in, can help weight-loss efforts for overweight adults. weight can fluctuate by as much as five to six pounds per day, based on fluid retention or even the time of day they step on the scale. experts recommend weighing in once or twice per week, at the same time of the day, on the same days of the week. cg: leslie heinberg, phd/cleveland clinic "if you're trying to lose weight without gathering some of this information, it's a little bit like driving your car in a new town without the gps - you might but having all that information, by having a roadmap, you're going to get there much more quickly and efficiently." :18 dr. leslie heinberg from the cleveland clinic says the number on the scale is just one piece of data. things like waist measurements and how your clothes fit are just as important for creating an overall picture of health. drinking coffee could cut your chance of developing a type of liver disease. that's according to a medical journal that reviewed nine separate studies on the effects of coffee. researchers say two cups a day could cut your chance to develop alcohol-related cirrhosis by 44-percent. cirrhosis deteriorates the liver by blocking blood flow. alcoholism is the second-most common cause of that condition in the u-s. but experts say coffee will never balance out all negative affects of excess alcohol. some doctors also say more research is needed to confirm those studies. for the first time...bill cosby's wife... camille when she is expected to give an emotional deposition. and new surveillance video may help police in their investigation of an alleged domestic assault incident involvingt n-f-l quarterback johnny bill cosby's wife, camille cosby, is set to be questioned today in a defamation lawsuit brought againgst her husband. women alleged cosby defamed them by branding them as liars when they went public about the sexual assault. cosby denied those allegations and filed a contersuit. lawyers for the cosbys attempted to reject the deposition subpoena, arguing camille cosby doesn't have any relevant information about the lawsuit. areva martin sot: " no wife wants to go into a deposition or public forum and have to testify about her personal relationship with her husband. definitely not testify about his relationships with other women. " the cosby lawyers also argued that the converstations camille has had with her husband are confidential, but a judge ruled yesterday that the deposition hearing will go on. sports reporter erin andrews is set to return to nashville for her negligence lawsuit against marriott hotels. the suit stems from a case in 20-08 in which a man rigged hotel peepholes and filmed andrews changing clothes. andrews accuses marriott and others of rooms next to hers, enabling him to make the videos. andrews is seeking 75- million dollars. the latest now on kesha's legal battle. so many stars... from taylor swift to demi lovato... supporting her this morning... after a judge denied kesha's request to break a contract with her longtime producer. kesha claiming the man abused her.. abc's jesse palmer has the story script: nats - we r who we r this morning - pop sensation kesha sebert --- known for her chart topping hits - nats - timber devastated, over the weekend- after a judge refused to cancel her contract with her label because of she no longer wanted to work with producer lukasz gottwald - best known as dr. luke? kesha nats - "amazing grace" billboard sot the longer this case goes on the more damage it will do to both of their careers new developments this morning in the domestic assault investigation involving nfl quarterback and heisman trophy winner johnny manziel. dallas police are now saying they have surveillance video that may help the case. abc's ryan smith has the story script: this morning, dallas police say they are examining what could be a key piece of evidence as they consider domestic assault charges against cleveland browns quarterback johnny manziel ... hotel surveillance video reportedly showing an encounter between manziel and his ex- girlfriend, colleen crowley. sot major midge boyle / continued communicating with the complainant, interviewed witnesses and received medical records from the complainant as well as obtained videos from surveillance cameras. in her affidavit seeking an order of protection against manziel, crowley said she met up with him at hotel zaza in dallas in the early morning hours of january 30th. she claims an argument turned physical and she "became very scared" and "tried to fight him off." crowley said manziel led her down a back stairway to the hotel valet... and that she told the valet "please don't let him take me. i'm scared for my life!" crowley also claims that later that night, the 23-year-old struck her with "his open hand on my left ear" and that she "could not hear out of that ear." while police would not release details about the surveillance video, sources tell espn that it contains an encounter with the valet as well as other footage from the hotel. presser sot maj. midge boyle said: "there has been no determination as to what charge, if any, will be filed against mr. manziel" in october police dash cameras revealed the moments after another alleged physical confrontation between the pair . crowley: he hit me a couple of times. officer: while you were in the car?
