and hoping that they will speak with us. >>reporter: and tonight oakland mayor says she wants to meet face-to-face with the occupy protestors. good evening. >> last night there was an eruption in the streets of oakland. 3 protestors open licensed. several police suffered minor injuries. tonight signs of backlash against the protestors from those who say they have just gone too far. neal begins the coverage. >> about a rabling of fresh graffiti. this woman. >> i don't see any positive message. overnight a violent run in between protestors and police 100 arrest and frustration that the movement is being hijacked by a destructive minority. >> i don't like the fire or graffiti. most are not doing those things. >> so is this movement aimed at corporate greed and corruption which gained so much popular traction so quickly in danger of snuving itself out. >> very, very small segment of what has happened small amount of violence enough ultimately to stop a movement. >> and tonight the oakland city council is holding a special meeting on the occupy movement. the questions and concerns are now plentiful. lillian at the council meeting tonight with what is happening there. lillian. >> overwhelming i. >> occupy movement. speaker after speaker addresses city council urging them to adopt a rest logs to come out in in support of occupy oakland. people representing the business community offered a different point of view. many people said yesterday general strike was inspiration and oakland should be proud of the thousands of people who participated. occupy suppor supporters say the violence that took place afterward by small group of anarchist shouldn't detract from the positive movement. police used tear gas and grenade to dispwawrs crowd that hit window and sprayed graffiti any do you want oakland. the people ended up being arrested. >> what happened late last night should not be should not over shadow what beautiful thing happened yesterday and this morning -- we made up for that. we came together as a community. people came out. they cleaned graffiti. they fixed things. they said they were sorry. they went to business owners and how can we help. >> occupy oakland is bigger much bigger than oakland and we have an opportunity to lead in this city. >> we have had several conversations with businesses that are saying they will consider not renewing their leases. unless something is done and done medley. damage to the property is unacceptabl unacceptable. the violence is uncalled for. >> last we checked council members had yet to speak. so far they just been listening to each speaker. they could take action tonight such as adopting resolution support and accommodate the occupy movement or they could come out against it and order the camp removed during the chaos to keep protestors from breaking in one building near frank ogawa plaz plaza. he helped lead 50th million dollar project to rae develop the building on 16th street. he watched the crowd take over the traveler aid building right across the street. >> we were armed and that was the deterrent from keeping them from coming in the building and we basically just had a stand off you could say until the mr mr. is came to move the rioter rioters. the anarchist. >> he says that occupy protestors expression their first amendment rights are infringing on the rights of the others who live work own property in downtown oakland. >> oakland police still compiling estimates of the damage done by vandal last nature around frank gases plaz plaza. windows smashed walls smeared with graffiti. who is to blame for all this. as mark explains, business owners are split. >> early this morning the steam cleaning crew were already hard at work. and there was lots of work. window knocked out at the wells fargo bank and the same at small coffee shop that has been supportive of the occupy movement from the beginning. >> i totally blame this on the city. the way things have been handled is totally out of control. >> owner of this coffee shop says the mayor should take more responsibility. the president of the oakland chamber of commerce says the same. >> go over and talk to the restaurants in the plaza. they are about to close. we have tenant in some of the buildings there that are saying gee do i want to renew my lease. down the block from the city hall at the cafe dishes of food awaited customers that didn't show. at lunch time the place was practically empty. he tells me her business is down 50%. >> yesterday was is so much overload over loyshtiond she closed the cafe yesterday for fear of what was happening all around the business. she's tended for nearly 20 years. >> we can't be like that. just nervous. at the end of the day we don't have, trouble with window don't sleep at night. >>reporter: right across the street from theen kahn campment the owner of the rising loafer cafe says the occupy protest has helped. >> city saw increase in sales. >>reporter: about how much. >> 24 cents more or less. >>reporter: occupy oakland camp held a meeting this afternoon and voted to good to the businesses and explain that vandalism was not their doing. some took to scrubbing the graffiti. >> this was not part of the movement. i think it was largely perpetrated by people that just kind of want to get in the lime light. >>reporter: smrirnt group known as black block its being blamed. >> people coming in. want to cause trouble. >>reporter: ryan was running the occupy meeting that voted to offer help to the victims of last night rampage. >> people throughout right now go to the businesses and the people and asking them if what we can do to help. >>reporter: so i asked ryan what he would say to business owner whose would tell him the best way to help, go away. he told me the movement is bigger than anybody's individual business and those disgruntled business owners are free to express themselves at the movement next general assembly. on 14 to intensify criticism of solar subsidy. sun power lost tlel 70 million dollars last quarter barely a month after the u.s. energy department granted the company a 1.2 billion dollar loan. sun power says it will reduce the work force and the chief financial officer is rae signing. another big silicon valley company announce new round ofly offs today. advance micro device sunnyvale chip maker will cut 10% of the work force, 1400 jobs, because computer sales are weak. a.m. d hopes the global cut will help save 200 million dollars in operating expenses next year. l san francisco public defender releasing new piece of videotape tonight. video he claims shows yet another case of police misconduct. vick lee tonight with the story and that tape. >> if i was detained and no particular reason by several police officers. >>reporter: store owner charles tran says a police officer arrested him in august while he was simply reporting a fight that happened between his employee and a truck driver. public defender says the officer falsely accused tran of taking a fighting stance. >> dishonesty of this kind can not be tolerated. we are calling today for a sear tolerance policy. >> this security tape show what is happens and undercover cop leaves while tran talks to yawn formed officer. he says the officer pushed him away for no reason cuffed him. then pinned against a wall he says the officer used aexcessive force by kicking tran leg out causing him to fall. >> i don't think that there's a smoking gun here. that mr. tran would suggest. >>reporter: police chief says he saw tran make a fist while his hand was at his side. >> that speaks to him clinching a fist. shows it in the video. he does posture which would appear to be offensive. then in the report it speaks to fighting stance. >>reporter: he also says the officer was trying to help tran sit down when he kicked the le legs out. >> maybe it would have been better if the officer actually would have had hands on the upper body but i think if you view the video nothing appears to be over the top. >>reporter: he's a candidate for mayor. interim mayor ed lee also running question the timing of the video release. >> i'm hoping that he isn't using this time frame to unveil video that he may have had in his hand because again that's kind of sfm smoke campaigning if you will. >>reporter: he says his investigation ended just this week. and that he did consider holding the video until after the election. but he says he deferred to the victim and his family. >> after meeting with the individuals they expressed they wanted to go forward. >>reporter: well he also spoke of 5 cases where he says mission station officers stole property and cash during searches all of these cases and the video have been turned over to the fbi. the chief gave the video to internal affairs. this is 7 news. >> other big story we follow for you is in southern california. trial of dr. conrad murray. tonight 2 years, 4 months and 9 days after michael jackson death the case is in the hands of the jury now. the the diana on today's closing arguments. >>reporter: prosecutors wasted no time in getting writ to the point. >> the evidence in this case is aabundantly clear that conrad murray actd with criminal negligence. that conrad murray caused the death of michael jackson. >>reporter: next came point by point outline of the way they say murray neglected his responsibilities as physician. that he intentionally misled hospital staff and investigators. that he cared more for the money than for his client. >> he hit the
