Fire broke out on saturday evening at this by the town of lower lake. Thats where most of the homes burned in fact. Laura anthony spent the day with evacuee wondering if the homes are still standing. All of a sudden at 10 30 sirens started to go off and helicopters and flames and planes and everybody got really serious really quick. Reporter thats why crystal is already focused on the future. I mean as long as the lives are safe and animal. We saw people getting the animals out and everything and Everything Else is repu sable. Reporter they live on winchester street few block from downtown lower lake. Here on one side of the street home after home is gone. Jose and his family moved to winchester just a few months ago. Judging from what you see from here what do you think. Looks like its pretty gone. I think my house is gone, reporter while the planes moved on for now, the conditions here are ripe for more trouble. We have had now 5 years of 5 yourself of drought right so this area is bone dry. Tinder. We have had extreme fire behavior in the last several fires, significant fires in the area. Reporter with the uncertainty comes the waiting for family like this one. Evacuate from lower lake. They and animals are safe. But they have no idea whether house near Anderson Marsh is still standing. From what i heard last it was moving away from Anderson Marsh but wind can change at any point. Its already burned through 4000 acres so spread really fast. Firefighters say its only 5 percent contained still. Sergio has a closer look at the fire fight. The only thing is notice the changeh in wind direction from north west to northeast to south east. Thats going to make it tough for the firefighters but hopefully they are prepared for any change in the wind direction and the heat is going to be another battle. Evacuation center have been set up at the Seventh Day Adventist church in lake port as well as Kelseyville High School and twin pine casino in middletown. Breaking news is in lake county tonight where the lake county sheriff has Just Announced an arrest for arson in the fire that has burned at least 175 homes and businesses. And it is still raging. Man in custody is this guy. 40yearold damon shill being of clear lake facing 17 counts of arson. Lake county sheriff made the announcement about an hour and a half ago not long before we went on the air. Well we know that the fire activity that we have been experiencing over the last couple years is definitely not normal. Fires dont just simply star. We are all aware of. That we have Natural Causes but many times its a man made cause. Another thing that we know is that cal fire has been here to help us. Cal fire has some of the finest firefighters in this country. What a lot of us dont realize is that cal fire has some of the finest arson investigators in the country. [applause] they are responsible for investigating every wildfire that occurs in the state and in california and they do tremendous job of doing so. It is my pleasure to announce the arrest of Damon Anthony shill being able 40 of clear lake. Earlier today cal fire investigators along with lake county sheriffs detectives county sheriffs detectives assist tans of Lake County District Attorneys Office were able to arrest mr. In the first few hours dozens of homes buildings had already burn to the ground. Not swallowed up by wall of flames but in most cases ignited by an ember. Spot fire starts with one tiny, smolder for awhile ignition flame, then move into a house. Reporter proof Scott Stephens says lake county is rich in asorted plant life dense shrub with leave and twig that easily turn into ember that easily turn into ember, chapparel. Huge areas of chapparel around the fire and under a bad day burns 100 foot flame length. Reporter happened lastd year in lake county.
