true or false, these tastes add up to three tablespoons is around 30 calories. true or false? >> false. >> it is false. it is more. it is double that. it is 60 calories. >> wait. >> that's the whole point. >> twice a week for six months, you gain a pound. on to the final tiebreaker. >> it is over. we can't. >> all right. >> look how many we will gain. >> if you just snuck a few thins, you get 100 calories in this handful. >> all right. >> all right. a mother is helping -- helping to change the lives of kids who need it. this is true. this is serious. >> a great story for mother's day. first this is "today" on nbc so hoda can keep eating. as mother's day approaches, we're celebrating moms and at amazing things they do. over the next few days we wanted to share stories of mothers doing inspiring work. >> one of those mothers is alyssa mazano who has four kids under the age of 5. >> when she's not busy changing those kids, she's running a nonprofit to help children in ethiopia. take a look at her story. my name is alisa. i'm a mom of four amazing children. my husband and i always knew we wanted both to adopt children and have children biologically. after having trouble getting pregnant on our own, even with fertility treatment, we looked to adoption feeling as though it was meant to be. we started the adoption process in ethiopia, but the wait was too long and we were too eager to be parents. we ended up adopting our first daughteromestically. just six weeks later, we had the amazing opportunity to adopt our son. shortly after, i became pregnant with our third child, and we had our fourth baby girl one year ago. although we did not adopt from ethiopia, i felt a tie there. and did some research on what i could do to help. i decided to focus on education. i found a need for elementary schools throughout the under served areas of ethiopia. and i learned there was a need for the funding of life saving surgeries for children in those areas. when we welcomed our first two children home, instead of baby gifts, my husband and i asked for donations. we made enough to build our first school. from there, our charity was born. five years later, we have raised over $300,000, built four schools and funded several hundred surgeries. >> oh, my gosh. >> wow. >> wow. >> somebody doing that without all the home fires burning would be so impressive. but this is amazing. >> thank you. >> no, thank you for all you're doing. >> what motivated you to do all this? you said you started off wanting to have a large family. >> exactly. and we did fertility treatments. we knew we wanted to adopt, we knew going into this that i really wanted to adopt children. he was all for it. we started the adoption process through ethiopia. there was such a long wait, we were eager to be parented so we went domestic instead and i had this tie to ethiopia and being a former special ed teacher i wanted to educate the children in need. >> i love the image of your kids together. something about it so magical. >> they belong together. we were meant to be. >> don't see color, don't see anything. what is it like raising the group together? >> honestly, it is like any other family. they don't see color. we're all, you know, one big happy family and it is amazing. i love that our kids grow up like this, getting all the experiences in the world. and knowing that i do this, they understand how to give back to others. >> and your sisters are also very much involved in this, right? >> yes, my sisters and brother-in-law as well. when i had the idea for the charity, they jumped on board. my brother-in-law is a doctor. he sends medical missions to africa as well. so they were there to support me, just like they are with everything else, raising my family, with the charity, with everything. >> you do so much for people, so we wanted to spend a little time doing something for you, your kids. we thought you deserved some time. the folks at the beauty at glam squad will come to your house, glam you up, not this you need it, and bring you to new york city for a steak dinner with your husband and tickets to see "after night" on broadway. we wanted to give you a little pampering. >> thank you so much. are you baby sitting?
