about 200 people were participating on one side or the other. by 4:00 p.m. trump supporters took their march to the streets while followed by a very loud group of protesters. police assisted. the injured to their cars. police also confiscated large sticks from some of the protesters. reporting live in berkeley, nbc bay area news. >> thank you very much. there were injuries and arrests. christie smith, is there. a handful of people taken into customer did i by police. >> reporter: we do have some new information for you. up to 12 people were arrested here today and when we checked in, maybe an hour ago, we did see one person detained but within the last 30 minutes we saw two more being led away by berkeley police but as chuck said it is much quieter here now at the park. in fact, just very few people here, people disbursed about maybe 40 minutes ago. from the park after-hours trump supporters and anti-trump demonstrators faced off here in berkeley. we saw one man who had been arguing with trump supporters taken away earlier we saw a man with a sweatshirt that said basket of deflorables on it. he was pulled from the crowd by a police officer. he wore a helmet and shin guards. those were taken off. also police themselves dressed in helmets with face guards down appearing to stand to the side in the beginning and they later pulled some individuals from the crowd. we also saw some sticks taken away from people. i think chuck mentioned that. we saw people who looked like they had their eyes were somewhat red. perhaps they had been pepper sprayed. bottles being thrown. a lot of shoving. we asked people on both sides how they felt about the police response today? some felt they thought it was appropriate, they thought or hoped police would have moved in quicker as it started to escalate here. only a few people lingering in the park. reporting live in berkeley. nbc bay area news. all right. thank you. the berkeley march was one of about 50 scheduled marches and rallies across the country today. as seen here on the left in new york city and the scene on the right in washington, d.c. and like in berkeley things got heated in several demonstrations around the country. >> it's a twitter storm taking the country by storm. tonight president trump's sent several tweets alleging that former president obama had wire tapped trump tower during the presidential election. reaction from local legislatu legislatures. >> reporter: tonight the state attorney general says the president has offered no evidence to support his claim. today the president is visiting his home in palm beach. early this morning he sent every tweets including one that said terrible. i just found out that obama had my wires tapped in trump tower just before the victory. nothing found. this is mccarthyism. >> reporter: here's how the governor reacted to the tweet. >> this is a profound dis-attraction but a block bluster of accusations. and he does not back that up except in a 140 character. that is for me highly irresponsible. >> california congresswoman max yin waters reyakted to the tweet saying there's something wrong with this president. he did not talk to reporters today. he just waved to a crowd. president obama team is shooting down the suggestion he ordered wire tapping as simply false. an obama spokesman a cardinal rule was that no white house official ever interfered with any independent investigation led by the justice department. and his former deputy national security adviser ben rhodes tweeted that the president cannot order a wire tap. nbc bay area news. >> thanks. down to the president's travel ban. two senior administration sources tell kntv that the president is expected to sign a revised order on monday. >> the congressman from mexico is taken his criticism of president trump's proposed border wall to new level. take a look at this. he tweeted out videos and photos of him climbing a wall that has along the tijuana beach. he was able to scale that 30 foot wall and climb over it. it would be a simple climb down into the united states. he went on to call the president's proposed wall, a quote unnecessary and absurd. u.s. customs said it will be collecting bids from companies who are interesting and designing and building the wall. and now to the incoming storm as we take you outside. we are in a microclimate weather alert with more rain on the way and colder temperatures. >> rob mayeda tracking the rain and some places it's here already. >> we're seeing mostly light rain, scattered showers right now. san francisco 54 degrees, emoryville 57. you can see some of that rain. san jose not rainy just yet. a few scattered showers early today. we'll see those on the increase as we head through 10 and 11:00 tonight. the rain expected to become a bit more steady for the south bay. right now the more substantial rain just off shore as you can see here, we got a cold system dropping down the golf of alaska. that's going to help drop snow levels and create instability. that could be ripe for some thunder showers. expect some rain tonight. snow level near 4,000 people. a chance of thunder and some showers to wrap up the weekend but just as quickly as these temperatures drop, huge warmup coming up in our seven day forecast. i'll have the outline in a few minutes. speaking of the forecast after last week's historic flooding in san jose, the district is keeping a close eye in coyote creek. it's at 99% capacity right now but it's not currently spilling over. they also don't that building and went to where their landlord lives to protest. the residents of this apartment complex, the apartments are filthy. they're plagued with black mold, water damage and cockroaches. instead of fixing those problems, the landlord raised the rent. they briefly spoke with someone there at the front door but no one came out to meet with the group. some say the especially wet winter is making things at their apartment even worse. >> they have bad conditions right there. in the bedroom as well. as well as black mold and mildew that shows up in the bathroom from the water damage. as many rent increases we pay they haven't improved any of this. >> nbc bay area did reach out to the landlords but so far they have not made any comment. a deadly crash near the facebook campuses today. firefighters say just after three this morning a car drove off the road. a car smashed in the drainage pike and ditch. firefighters say the driver a man died at the scene. he was the only person in the car. his name has not yet been released. >> they've made an arrest in a deadly stabbing from last week. police say that 37-year-old robert we willton stabbed 44 year old michael knight to death at a home last saturday. knight died the day after that attack. police arrested we willton yesterday without incident. the motive for the killing remains unclear. >> at this hour tracking a winter storm warning in the sierra. could see more than three feet of snow. that could change over to snow. the a look at this latest storm in our forecast when we come right back. speaking of which, with the incoming storms volunteers race to help cleanup the damage from that devastating flooding. take a look at where that cleanup effort stands right now. sweeping into action, the police officer that came to the rescue of a tourist who nearly had her vacation ruined. a national park officeravethe dd a national park officer saved the day for a tourist in san francisco this afternoon. that officer chased down a man suspected of breaking in the car and stealing her purse. happened near baker beach. the tourist who's from philadelphia said she hid her purse in the car underneath a jacket while she and her friends came down to the beach. they came back to a smashed window and in uh-uh purse. >> the officer came and he chased the person that he thought might have stolen because there had been suspicious people casing the parking lot. >> during the chase the suspect's car slammed into a nearby tree but the suspect got out of the car and got away. fortunately the stolen purse was still in that car. >> the work is just beginning but progress is continuing in san jose. more than 300 volunteers came out today to cleanup parks all around the city that have been devastated by recent flooding. take a look at the action here in kelly park. people got out, they picked up all that litter put them in a plastic bag there. deadwood was taken out too. >> where we're standing right now was under about six feet of water so during the height of the flood, so everything, all the trees around us had litter all the way up above our heads. >> well, tomorrow will be much of the same. more volunteers are expected to show up to clean up that debris. flood waters now gone, many home owners are dealing with the potential development of dangerous mold in their walls. talk about that forecast and rain is a story but there's also some cold element here, some snow too. >> a true winter storm. snow levels dropping. coldest air of the storm begins to filter on in. right now san jose 56 degrees, cloudy skies. not much rain just yet. santa clara valley mostly dry for the moment. you got the rain there along with some breezy conditions and rain will continue as we head off to the north bay here. scattered showers right now but really the main event for the most widespread rain right about here approaching the coast. most of it arriving before midnight tonight. all these popcorn-like clouds off shore. that will trigger more scattered showers and lowering snow levels as we go into sunday. wind speeds could pick up to 30-mile-per-hour. notice the direction out of the south with our front on approach. these wind speeds picking up between 9 and 11:00 tonight. much cooler day in store for tomorrow. morning temperatures, low 40s. rain overnight changing into scattered showers and a mix of sunshine with those scattered showers in snow levels. rainfall projections given this is a cold storm. areas in yellow about a third of an inch of rain to three quarters of inch of rain. the north bay have a chance to get about an inch of rain out of the storm. not the rain totals we saw from previous storms which had the atmospheric river involved. winter storm warning in effect up here in lake county. a chance of some hill top snow down to 2,500 feet around the north bay by tomorrow night and mt. hamilton very likely will have some measurable snowfall over the next 24 hours. check out the sierra travel here. could see controls down to 2,003,000 feet and those snow totals, a record start to some of these -- another three feet of snow by the end of the weekend. timeline of the storm. south bay main event around 11:00 tonight. changing over to statered showers. notice the gaps here in the clouds. sunday will not be a washout. you'll have plenty of sun at times. monday a similar story as the showers continue into monday morning's commute and the showers will begin to head off into the north bay. as high pressure builds in, it's going to stay to the north, blocked by high pressure which for the bay area means temperatures are going to be climbing to spring-like levels after this wintry finish to the weekend. so bit of a roller coaster ride. san service is shut down between oakland's rockville station and pleasantville hill. started about 20 minutes ago. firefighters can't even get into the area yet. bart electrical workers need to get there first. bart service along the entire east bay line effected. trapped in the wilderness. the driver who had to stick it out for days in this big rig in the cold in the snow before being rescued. that's
