The Santa Clara County sheriffs Marijuana Eradication Team began cutting and removing large or as officers described it, tree like pot plans. There are more than 200 of these street lamps, sfmta says they are crumbling and not sufficient with the traffic and safety improvements coming to van ness. There is a plan to preserve four of these street lamps, there was a resolution asking to keep all of them, theyre working on options now to bring to the supervisors and a coalition on street lamps about what can be done. A dedicated transit lane is coming to the middle of van necessary that would allow buses to move quicker and safer. The poles for the overhead bus wires really need to be taller and in good shape. Saving the street lamps an an improved corridor can happen together. Our proposal isnt to retain the old polls, but to retain the beautiful lights and the brackets. And affix them to new polls.
