In about 45 minutes union reps will be here outside the zoo as well as workers we spoke with who said they have no idea the radios could have this feature and they believe there is potential for invasion of privacy. Have fun today. Thanks very. Nearly every worker at the San Francisco zoo wears a radio. But now at least two radios used by upper managers have a feature that workers didnt expect. What it lets them do is take any employees radio in the zoo and say i want to listen to that person. Without any lights or noise coming from the radio, the lights just come on and they can listen to the entire road. The zoo put in a code red system in 2007. Then came code red buttons. Then manager approached a Union Steward and said people were using the system to eavesdrop on employees. What i have said in the last few months who i have been listening, it is the only topic of conversation at the zoo for the last few days. Advertising workers early on including things like gps, saying the system is designed for safety and medical reasons but also says they hope this is all just a big misunderstanding. More appropriate for law enforcement. I had that feature disabled from three radios that had it. Now that is a feature use ford eavesdropping. We certainly take those claims seriously. Now the zoo said that it is examining this manner and interviewing people also the union says that it has retained council. They also make it a darn good metaphor for shawn maloneys life, or say, live. Ive got two lives, really. Life before my stroke and now that life afterwards. Shawns life before his stroke in 2010 was one of a big time executive at one of the worlds Biggest Technology companies. Some say he was steps away from the top job. Until he found himself flat on his back. Thinking it was the end. I had a good life. And it was over. Thats what i thought. Its over. In a way, shawn was right. That life was over. But a new one had begun. Always driven and remarkably fit, shawn threw himself back into exercise to help his body recover. His brain, though that was tougher. The stroke had left him unable to speak. Two months later, the doctor said to me youve got to learn to speak out with the other side of your head. Shawn said doing that is the toughest thing he will ever do in life. This is the journey, right. Which is saying something considering whats next. So it a long way. Shawn is leaving sunday to pie sickbicycle across the united states. He will give talks along the way, telling people about the warning signs of a stroke so they can hopefully avoid one. The biggest lesson he will give though, wont be with his words, itll be with his wheels. To let other stroke survivors know they have more willpower inside of them than they ever imagined. He certainly did. You can come back. You can come back. His ride he labelled it heart across america. Just a few minutes ago, i posted that on my twitter and facebook if anyone wants to follow along or support his journey while he suffered a stroke. He is worried about stroke and heart attack.
