in the meantime, tania davis of sacramento was inside the ferry building and saw it happen. tell us what you saw. >> yeah. i was just walking by with some breakfast sandwiches and a mom and her son were walking right past me. once i passed them i just heard a scream and then the woman, the suspect, just swoops and tried to take the little boy, and within seconds, i mean, other people were then after the suspect and it was a huge -- people were on the floor kind of wrestling to get this -- the suspect who was trying to take the little boy, to get her off of the little boy, yeah. someone eventually pinned her to the ground and said you're under citizens arrest and called security, and the cops came and -- >> reporter: and that was that. >> yeah. >> reporter: thanks very much for describing the scene. was the boy ever separated from his mom? >> there was a struggle on the ground. i was right there and lots of people -- i don't think he was ever separated, but there was a struggle. >> reporter: thank you very much. really appreciate taking the time talking with us. we spoke with jack hart who is a captain at the san francisco police department, and here's what he had to say about the investigation. >> yeah. we're reviewing video at this time but on the video it appeared that the subject had attempted an actually grabbed the child and there was a bit of a struggle that occurred which drew attention from other bystanders and merchants and so on and help was immediately deployed at that time. >> reporter: what i'm told is that it was a clerk at one of the markets inside the ferry building that jumped in and was one of the first to grab the woman who was apparently attempting to abduct this child. the police said that that woman, the suspect, believed that the 2 1/2-year-old was her child and may have been why they thought she was mentally unbalanced. reporting from the ferry building, mark matthews, nbc bay area news. >> thank you very much. our other top story this morning. president trump, of course, in the middle of an historic trip to the middle east. he just spoke side by side with israel's prime minister, and earlier this morning became the first sitting president to touch the western wall. now both leaders wrapped up a joint news conference about 20 minutes ago. president trump saying that he's determined to bring about a long sought peace deal between israel and palestine. >> i've heard it's one of the toughest deals of all, but i have a feeling that we're going to get there eventually, i hope. >> there's no city on earth where you are more welcome than right here with us in jerusalem. welcome to jerusalem, welcome to israel. [ applause ] >> you hear it there, there was some effusive praise this morning from prime minister benjamin netanyahu, this as president trump continuing his first overseas trip since taking office. san francisco man says he was treated unfairly while flying on an asiana flight on sunday from beijing to seoul. tim seward told us it's all because of his prosthetic leg. he recorded interaction before the flight took off. he says that a representative from the airline said he would have to move because he could not perform the duties needed by someone in an exit row. seward says he has sat in the exit row several times before, but the representative says the company's policy does not allow a person with a disability to sit in the exit row. >> my leg is functional. >> you cannot prove my leg is functional. you want me to show you. i don't know how to show. maybe i can run, so, can i not prove it. >> oh, my god. >> wow. >> seward eventually took a seat in the back of the plane. he lost his leg when he was 11 because of cancer. he's now a professional skateborder. we tried reaching out to asiana airlines. they have not responded. a developing story. an update to our breaking news. all morning long a home invasion and officer-involved shooting in san francisco. one suspect is behind bars. police say the search now continues for more people. all this happening in the bayview district last night about 11:00 on cosaada avenue. when they got to the house they saw several suspects jetting away from the house. one fired at officers and the officer returned fire but no one was struck or injured. the sfpd does describe this as a close call. >> at this time there are no known injuries luckily as a result of the exchange of gunfire. from what i hear though it was very harrowing, very, very close call for the officers in the backyard. >> for more information here, police say that the home invasion does appear to be target. they are asking anybody with information to come forward. happening right now. celebrating in california and a bay area icon. it's harvey milk day in california. san francisco's first openly gay politician would have turned 87 today. >> nbc bay district and add mission is free for folks all day long, and when inside there's going to be plenty of displays. you'll see this bullhorn that harvey milk used during the protests for gay rights during the '70s and also here you can see this is the suit that he was wearing when he was assassinated, but he's had a lasting impact nationally, locally, globally, you name it. and milk was california's first gay elected official serving as a member. san francisco board of supervisors in the late 1970s but he and mayor george musconi were shot and killed by a former colleague in 1978. we did have a chance to speak with the executive director of this museum who talked about milk's personal impact on himself as a young gay man in the '70s. >> when i was just beginning to make trips to san francisco, just beginning to come out myself and to my family and friends as being a young gay man, and it was so inspiring to me to know that a gay person could be publicly acknowledged as a good morning. let's start with that outgoing ceo mark field who helped lead ford into new industries like ride share and automated cars. he's going to step down. ford confirmed that this morning. ford, as you point out, has a notable presence in the bay area working hard to compete with google and tesla. it's got that advanced research lab in palo alto. they are working on cars of the future, including a self-driving ford fusion, and then it's purchased chariot as well, the small private bus system that you see running routes in san francisco. we expect those efforts here in the bay area will grow bigger because the new person in charge of those efforts called ford mobility, the lab in palo alto chariot is going to be the next ceo of for the, jim hackett. so we expect more automatic cars and more electric cars and if the name jim hackett might ring a bell, you might be a 49ers fan. he used to be interim athletic director at the university of michigan and is the guy responsible for bringing jim harbaugh to michigan. a cute little embrace there. from there, hackett has also been the ceo of a office furniture marriage and a very unusual career path so, again, with a lot of bay to five friends. you may have seen this video already of a sea lion dragging that little girl off the pier and into the water near vancouver. a stranger dives in right after her and gets her to safety, but today the police chief says her parents are the ones to blame. here's nbc's miguel almaguer. >> a day on the wharf, popular with tourists, begins with laughs but suddenly turns to panic and fear. a terrifying close call with a massive sea lion that unexpectedly yanked the little girl off the pier in british columbia and pulled her under water. the girl was rescued by a man who jumped in after her, both quickly pulled to safety and appeared unhurt. >> i jumped a little bit for sure, i'm a little terrified of that thing for sure. >> reporter: michael captured the attack on his cell phone. >> pretty dangerous. you never know how it will act. >> reporter: the video shows the sea lion eating the piece of bread someone put in the water and a man held out his and as if he was trying to pet the animal and a sea lion which can weigh up to 700 pounds shoots out of the war within inches of the little girl. the crowd laughs nervously but no one moves the child away from the edge. seconds later this. oh, my goodness. the wharf's harbormaster says this should be a warning to never feed or approach sea lions. >> total stupidity on the part of the adults. not only do you let your -- you know, your family member feed a wild animal and let the little girl sit on the sej of the dock with her back to it and these tourists didn't get the message getting an exact scare. don't go to the forest and throw had a ham sandwich at a bear. don't come to the dock and feed the sea lion. >> reporter: a close call with a powerful creature that could have quickly turned deadly. >> miguel almaguer reporting from vancouver. while sea lions and pups are very friendly from afar, you see them around here, their jaws are extremely powerful so keep your distance from those wild animals. all right, a warning now, kris, that rivers and waterways are starting to run pretty full as a fairfield father remains missing after a boating accident near the entrepreneuring marina on saturday night. he was out fishing with his son when the boy fell into the water and he went into the water and he was unable to get back on boat, and he remains missing. just ahead of the memorial day weekend, the u.s. coast guard also trying to get the word out about boating safety. this week marks national safe boating week. the coast guard wants to remind anyone who is planning on doing recreational boating always wear your life jacket and have a working radio on board your boat. monitor the conditions before you head out and make sure you've created a float plan with your family or with your friend. =3 shot down the line= and it was accurately scorching this weekend, sari, depending on where you were. you went over to santa cruz. you were cool and the rest of us were sweaty. >> we were driving through gilroy. it was 95 degrees. as we cut across watsonville south of santa cruz, it was foggy and it struggled to make it up to 60 degrees so it was really cool there, but i was -- >> full disclosure. she was camping this weekend. >> yes. >> 90 degrees out. >> i just stayed very still. >> still the same thing today. we've got the fog along the coast that keeps the temperatures down there, and for the inland areas no relief. here's a look at the golden gate bridge still covered in fog, as we speak, and other parts of san francisco is all clear, so even here you have at least a 20-degree spread in temperatures for today, and as we get a look at the view fro carpooling or catching some public transportation out and about as you head out throughout the day, and our temperatures, we're already seeing them spread out from 62 degrees in san francisco to 80 in fairfield, and this is where i think those temperatures will be hitting the triple digits but nowhere else around the bay area as we'll see some inland areas topping out in the low 90s. we're up to 92 today in morgan hill and heading through the east bay, 93 degrees in danville and 62 at half moon bay and 77 in san mateo and 77 in ingleside and mill valley up to 85 and napa today up to 90 degrees. looking out there at fremont, our temperatures in the upper 70s for the next couple of hours. a lot of sunshine. a lot of people out and about and enjoying the sunshine and warm weather. we also have a high amount of tree pollen. grass pollen is moderate, and the molds and weeds are low at this point. if you're looking forward to some cooler temperatures, maybe you'll have a short week. look at heavenly. it will be in the low to mid-70s over the next several days, and in san francisco, our temperatures go from 75 today to the 60s the rest of the week. inland valleys will still be hot today and tomorrow and then for wednesday it will start to dip a bit. 82 degrees and the coolest day this week will be on thursday reaching 73 and leading us into a very nice memorial day weekend. it's going to be for the inland area. it's much more comfortable and starting to get a little bit cool forget. this gas pipeline ruptured in san bruno. the explosion and fire killed eight people. pg&e was convicted of six felony charges including five violations of the u.s. pipeline safety act and obstructing an ntsb investigation. pg&e was fined, placed under an outside monitor, given five years of probation, and required to perform 10,000 hours of community service. we are deeply sorry. we downtown san jose. that player, chad miller, is in the hospital with major injuries still this morning. >> yeah, it's actually not the first time that he's been in the headlines. nbc bay area's marianne favro is in san jose with the full story. >> reporter: chad miller is a junior at san jose state and a member of the football team. the university confirmed he was stabbed overnight. it happened here on post street downtown. one business second street a month and a half ago so it's not surprising to me at all. >> reporter: since we talked to tonight they feel safe at san jose state and once they set foot off campus. it's not as confident. >> just dangerous to go out there. >> that was marianne favro reporting. this is not the first time that chad miller landed in the hospital. he landed in the hospital after suffering injuries after a fight with another football player who was later suspended. jurors in the sierra lamar murder case is hearing what life was like for man convicted of killing her. antolin garcia-torres' lawyer are trying to get the jury to spare him from the death penalty. this follows last week's emotional testimony from the missing 15-year-old's parents and friends. no cameras are allowed in the courtroom but our reporter marianne favro is there as we speak tweeting live as she reports that garcia-torres' mother laura torres was on the stand saying she was exposed to pesticides and how his father was a violent man and drank a 12 pack of beer a day and at one point threatened to kill the entire family. a lead detective in the trial gave false evidence in another trial. marianne favro will continue following this case for our 5:00 and 6:00 news. hopping raappening right no police continues for a chase of suspects wanted for a robbery and also for an assault with a deadly weapon. just before 6:00 on saturday night the suspects led police on a chase that ended just off blossom hill road right across from a local high school, grove high school. police thought the suspects were holed up inside of a home and had it surrounded in a standoff that led well into the morning. when finally got inside the house it turned out that the suspects weren't inside. right now to the east bay andnent antioch and an investigation under way after a marijuana grow -- a house having a marijuana grow caught fire. it took about an hour to get the flames under control. they struggled to get inside the house. the windows and a the doors were bolted up to keep out intruders. the detective chief says this is typical when dealing with a grow house fire. >> it halvers our fire fighting efforts because it is makes it difficultly to get through and access the fire. >> so battalion chief says that the plants themselves may not be illegal but the stolen electricity to power the operation was. >> an unruly passenger forced a united flight to make a pit stop at sfo this weekend. lock him up. lock him up. >> united says that the man tried to take another passenger's seat while boarding in shack high. he allegedly refused to move and grew increasingly disruptive. everyone had to deplane while local law enforcement dealt with the matter and because of that pit stop the flight had to stop over in san francisco to recruit. as you can see the man is wearing a bright red make america great hence the shouts to lock him up when he came off the flight. a project is likely to stop due to costs. work on the $35 million project got under way in october and now it's in limbo because the costs tied to an added westlands restoration requirement are growing. the water district is appealing that new required but they are also threatening to sue. >> happening today. it is the start of several weeks of closures for drivers using highway 85 to try to connect the 101 in san jose and everything gets pretty jammed up around there are. the closures are only going to be through the overnight hours. c caltranz will close the northbound and southbound connectors to repair some damage from the winter storms. on weekdays the connectors will be reopening just in time for the morning commute. crews are expected to finish sometime in the making headlines. one of the iconic painted ladies across the street went modern in the best way possible. the original painted lady built in 1892 now supplies its own power, solar panels were added to the roof allowing the historic home to generate 90% of its own electricity. the homeowner tells us he's hoping if he can do it in a home with historic status everybody else will be inspired to go green, too. >> despite a very well-known historical home it's still possible to go with a clean energy solution and it's something that everybody can do. i mean, it's not difficult. we've probably had one of the most difficult houses to get solar on to and we did it. >> would i say. look at the pitch on that roof. the solar company had the daunting task of putting the solar panels up there. seems like it went well. no pressure, only around since the 1890s. don't screw this one up. one of the places on your list to visit san francisco you've got to see. if you're a tourist you get to see the painted ladies with alamo square open and also -- >> it's open now? >> last time i -- it was all closed off. >> a lot of sun for those solar panels, and it will be very nice hover the next couple of days. our temperatures are going to be coming down. here's a look at some of our microclimate in the tri-valley looking at the pleasanton camera. already 77 degrees. it's 65 in the peninsula and san jose looking over san jose is at 71 degrees. 60 degrees in san francisco and it's 68 degrees in the north bay with some sunshine there and we're getting a look at that the view across the bay and you can see the low clouds. that may clear out for just a little while but it's also bringing a wide range in temperatures so that's the reason why we see microclimates. it's 62 degrees at half moon bay. that will be the high temperature today, and palo alto up to 85 degrees and 88 degrees in san jose, and in the tri-valley expect a high of 95 degrees. so it is going to be very hot there, and looking at the temperature trend for santa clara, it will be in the low 70s in had the next couple of hours and then seeing it warm up into the upper 80s by 3:00 this afternoon so it feels comfortable now but very soon those temperatures will start to feel uncomfortable, and you'll be turning on the air conditioner, and whatever you have to do, make sure you do it soon. looking at the temperatures for the next couple of days in san francisco, really continuing to dip, and we'll only make it up to 62 degrees on thursday. for the inland areas expect it to be hot the next couple of days, 90s, and then we start to have more comfortable weather, and it's a big weekend because some people have a short week, and it will be very nice as we go into the weekend. let's take a look at some things people may be doing heading to bottle rock in napa valley, and it will be in the low 70s on friday, 78 degrees on saturday. so not bad at all. it's not like the weekend we just had where the temperatures were scorching, but it is going to be warm on sunday, reaching 83 degrees, or if you're going to be hitting the road heading to yosemite it will be in the low 60s there, a mix of sun and clouds and nighttime temperatures will be very chili and if you're going to l.a., friends and family, mid-60s for both saturday and sunday and up to 70 degrees with a lot of sunshine. as we go into the forecast, also looking at some waves at santa cruz. it's going to be cool, kind of like the weekend we just had with our temperatures staying in the low 630s and also some fog near the coast. i'll have another booze without an i.d. nbc goes undercover to find out how often is happens. =cover shot in= ==sam//2 shot== the alarming new way that kids can get their hands on alcohol... and what police are now doing to try and stop it. well, the alarming new way kids can get their hands on alcohol, and we do mean alarming and what police are now doing to stop it. prom and graduation seasons are under way and underage drinking is back in the news. police are reporting a surge in teenage drinking parties. >> and now they are going into schools to scare kids straight. so how are the teenagers getting alcohol in the first place? we know households did it when we were young. here's jeff ross and a hidden camera investigation that every parent should see. >> you're walking a mock accident in progress. teens screaming for help after drinking and crashing their car, kids put on stretchers and airlifted out. it looked so real and is supposed to. from arizona, to florida and wisconsin. police now recreating drunk driving accidents with students to show them what can happen if they drink and drive. >> it's really -- we are like this could happen this saturday. >> reporter: think your kids can't get alcohol? think again. at recent study finding 53% of eighth graders say it's fairly easy or very easy to get alcohol. same with 71% of tenth graders, and there are serious consequences. over 180,000 underage drinkers sent to the e.r. in one year alone. experts say the rise in liquor store deliveries can make it easy for your kids. the stores say they check i.d. at your door, but do they really? >> we're about to see. we've rented this home in suburban connecticut and have wired the entire front entrance with hidden cameras and called a bunch of local stores and ordered bother and wine and liquor to be delivered here and when it comes we're not going to the door. ally is. how old are you? >> 13. >> i'm in the eighth grade. >> you're going to take the deliveries and sao if they will give you alcohol. >> the delivery person is going to think no one else is home because we'll all be hiding here in the back room watching it on a live feed with ally's mom jenny. what do you receiving alcohol and they are clearly underage, then who else is drinking this? who is underaging drinking? >> we showed our results to madd, mothers against drunk driving. >> this is an absolute wake-up call for parents, and those that are serving alcohol should obey the law and absolutely should be doing everything they can to make sure that those that they are serving are the age of 21. >> at the end of the day, 13-year-old ally easily getting her hands on seven bottles of booze from wine to champagne, even tequila. >> i'm in shock. really am. she's going to high school next year and it's another thing i have to worry about. it's very scary. >> that was jeff rossen reporting. we're all quite a bit shocked. there were six deliveries. four of them did do the right thing, as you saw, but two did not. that was two too many. >> so one-third. >> so nbc reached out to the stores that handed over the alcohol to let them know what happened, and they said it was unacceptable. they planned to retrain their delivery drivers to check i.d. every single time, but if you are a parent, you just have to know that this is a possibility. >> that's a random sampling, one out of three did
