That is, theyre glad that the trains are rolling this morning, and they would like to see a deal reached before this next deadline sunday at midnight, but thats where their agreements seem to end. Union leaders say that they are glad that barts gm is come to the table. They think she can help speed the process along. The union have said elected leaders will be involved too, but barts lead negotiators have said that legislators take time away that could be used at the bargaining table. The gates opened up on time at all bart stations this morning with some commuters arriving early. They just werent sure what to expect. It looks like quite a few stayed home. 400,000 rely on bart each duh. The unions announced they worked past the deadline for the 60day cooling off period imposed by governor brown. They did give 72 hours notice that they would strike monday if a deal isnt reached by sunday at midnight. Union leader Antionette Bryant says having theko gm there is critical. The bart spokesperson telling us he just hopes that a deal will be reached by sunday midnight, but he also said just in case theyre keeping all the shuttles they had on standby for today. The school has canceled the annual tradition and many parents are taking on a grassroots effort to save it. Kids are hyped up during the day about the parade. There are sometimes issues with them getting their costumes on. So much of a distraction, and teachers say it basically turns into a nonacademic day. A lost day of education. With the added challenge of implementing common core standards, its just too much. Some parents feel that this is an overreaction to take away what they say is a fun tradition for their kids. One mom has gone online to try to convince the school to change its mind by creating a petition on change. Org. So far about 190 people have signed in for their support, though it appears those minorities are actually a parent in the school. The school did offer the kids the option of having the parade after class, but parntsdz say no because its not fair to kids who couldnt attend because of after schooling obligations.
