The 27yearold made her debut with a film she wrote and directed based on James Francos book palo alto, a collection of dark and racy and troubled stories about palo alto. Why palo alto . Franco grew up there. Its short stories that he wrote. So i assume its his impression because he lived here in palo alto and went to school here. Reporter franco worked closely with coppola to develop the movie. But those who saw it say its not an accurate reflection of its namesake. If i lived in palo alto, i would be incensed that they name midcity after this movie. I liked it. I mean, dont just put a blanket label. I think it could be anywhere. Anywhere usa. I think the movie expressed a part of palo alto, but it certainly didnt express the whole story. It seemed to focus on one segment of kids, population. Reporter moviegoers say the foam doesnt back down on tackling tough issues like teen suicide, sex, drugs, and pedophilia. It seems like it was very real. And it was sort of uncomfortable to watch. Reporter tonight coppola was in San Francisco to speak to moviegoers herself. I hope that, you know, people can connect with the emotions and especially teenagers and can relate to some of the stories that are being told.
