castillo.and i'm larry wentz. turning to local news now... the woodbury cocoty courthouse is getting some much- needed renovations. 3 in addition to new lights for all county buildings... a major piece of infrastructure will be replaced in the courthouse. 3 siouxland news reporter jaclyn driscoll joins us now.jaclyn. 3 3 diana, larry... the board of supervisors unanimously agreed to renovate the elevators in the courthouse beginning in february. 3 the total project will cost abt 385 thousand dollars. the fus will come from the capital improvement plan. the elevators were renovated about 30 years ago, but the actual equipment is nearly 100 years old. 3 "they're to the point now where many of the controls are no longer available, so replacement parts are not available to us in case we have a breakdown. now we are looking at updating those elevators to existing codes."schumacher elevator comomny will be completing the project... which should be the board also granted 20 thousand dollars to siouxland initiative... the economic development wing of the chamber of commerce. 3 "today we gave the siouxland initiative $20,000, airmarking half of that for the workforce solutions which is under the initiative. we need folks here to work and we need them in all different levels." 3 these funds will come from the local options sales tax, or lost funds. 3 chchrman monson says these funds will help create economic development and build a workforce. 3 a man accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend is changing his plea... with his attorney saying he will use an *insanity* defense at trial.35- year- old isack abdinur is facing a first- degree murder in n at caseseprosutors say he fatally stabbed 43- year- old cornelia stead in her apartment at a home on west 16th street june 23rd.now, his attorney says he was insane or operating at a time.public defender mike williams says he's already had abdinur examined by a psychologist.now... the court is giving prosecutors permission to have an expert of their own examine him. abdinur is scheduled to stand trial at the end of january... but that could be delayed if the evaluation isn't completed by then. 3 an influential, former sioux council member has passed away.joanne grueskin (grew- skin) seed 8 years on the city council during the 80's and 90's. 3 she was also a guiding force behind numerous projects including riverfront development... the start of saturday in the park... construction of the downtownwn public library... and the expansion of highway 20 across northwest iowa.grueskin's late husband earle also served on the city council... as mayor... and as county supervisor.they couple retired and left sioux city in 2000.joanne gruesking was 79 years old. 3 3 a group dedicated to helping members of the military in siouxland is launching a new program.that program is called "thank a vet."it gives vets a chance to talk to other vets and find out what they need. this morning... support siouxland soldiers launched that program with a free donut and coffee brainstorminin meeting.susuort ouxland soliders plans to hold those meetings regularly at their facility on the first floor of the va building in sioux city. 3 3 3 3 the president of france tonight looking for more u- s help in the fight against isis.francois hollande making his position clear during a visit to washington today.he met with president obama at the white housus.. before speaking w wh reportererat a joint news conference.while the president is looking for coalition partners like france to take up a bigger role in the fight...hollande says the u- s and *russia* need to take the lead and work together to defeat the terror group. 3 thth meeting between obama and llande *could* alter the international strategy to defeating isis.our scott thuman looks at a new push... and how it may have just gotten tougher after dramatic developments involving a russian warplane. 3 under an intense spotlight today, president oboba & french president hollande expansion in the fight against isis.(obama-124251) "we've seen some success but the question now is how can we accelerate it."(hollande- 122145) "it is about taking out their financing, hunting down their leaders, dismantling their networks and taking back the land they currently control."the white house has been standing firm, saying the u-s is already carrying most of the weight: conducting 2/3rds of airstrikes against targets in iraq, 95 percent in syria. critics are anxious for other nations to increase *their roles* and a clearer plan. "they ask me when did you buy those skates, and if i ll them 1960, they don't even know how to respond" his teammates tell him that he is an inspiration but he says he doesn't need the compliment. "if i can be a leader for them and show them what kind of language to use, how to treat their fellow teammates, that would be my goal." clair is just happy he can skip the gym and and found a way to spend time with his family. "somehow you have to find a way to connect with your children, so hockey, whether it was sons or daughters, we had an outdoor rink and we all skated together and you can form a bond that way." clair's son isn't surprised one bit that his father is still playing. "i think anybody realize how his age and how he gets around out there is remarkable. but doesnt surprise us a bit. he's always a good athlete and always beat us iningold, ping popo, anything u could take him on.. so it doesn't surprise me he out here yet."clair coached his son, robby in the first youth hockey league in sioux city. robby... eventually coached his son kyle when he was in youth hockey....and kyle started coaching with his dad at his side. "coaching with my dad is...words can't describe that...it is something that we think upon that.. bnd we have pictures and memories that we will have for a long time." and now robby is coaching for the third time as he coaches the fourth generation in the family. clair never imagined he would still be playing with s great grandson.
