((chris maathuis)) >> the crowd was simply amazing.. fans filled the plaza. it had an electric feel.. and that's where we find jon tritsch live with the fans point of view of the big reveal... the people wanted to know..las vegas sports decision 2016 is finally over..it ended with a popular choice and arrived like a knight in golden armor they were hanging over the edge in anticipation.. pouring into the plaza by the thousands..and wearing their game day best..all for a glimpse at history the mother of all announcements united families for a trip to revealed in a newsletter or press release..it came courtesy of a spectacle..a vegas specialty it was a snapshot and slapshot of what's to come...we don't know the players..but the franchise identity is unprecedented buzz who knew the desert could warm up to ice hockey so quickly you couldn't help but bask in the glory of the moment and think ((jon tritsch)) the prevaling thought number one.. people are here..secondly..t his is awesome.let's play soon enough..chris.. jon tritsch..8 sports ((chris maathuis)) >> foley considered a pair of other names for the tm desert knights and the silver knights. but in the end... the golden knights is our team name now... back with sports in about 20 minutes... denise.../// ((denise valdez)) >> now -- we know the team name. so let's get to some of your questions. first off.. where can i buy golden knights merchandise? ((denise valdez)) >> right now.. it appears the only place is outside the t-mobile arena. the lines were very long for most of the night. we don't know of any golden knights gift shops opening around the valley... but stay tuned!/// >> to have a team -- you got to have players. well.. an expansion draft is still several months away. ((denise valdez)) >> the actual draft takes place june 18th through the 20th. each n-h-l team has to choose a certain amount of players to be available for the draft -- so there's a good chance you could see some big names on the ice here in las vegas./// ((denise valdez)) >> and finally.. what about season tickets.. is it too late to join in on the fun? ((denise valdez)) >> there's a waiting list for most sections. so you could put your name on the list. but -- there's always craigslist and stubhub -- if you are want s some major cash./// ((denise valdez)) >> our facebook page is buzzing tonight with golden knights chatter... especially about the new name.. debbie writes.. should have been the silver knights! said it as soon as they announced it! anthony writes. like it. yes, we live in the silver state but this is representing vegas people! and connie writes. don't care what the name is...so excited to have a home team. you can join the debate by going to our facebook page right now. meanwhile ... a possible setback on the football front after city officials in oakland say they've found a way to keep the raiders in the bay area -- and stop the team from coming to las vegas. shakala alvaranga has the details. ((shakala alvaranga)) dave, it's not the best news for those hoping the raiders will make the move. an agreement has apparently been reached by the mayor of oakland and a private investor group -- that's willing to fund a new stadium for the team. "the raiders belong in oakland. this is where they were born and raised they are part of our identity." ((shakala alvaranga)) the raider nation rejoices. "we know that we've got to be competitive to get the raiders attention. that's what we're intending to do. this is one small step in a complicated deal." ((shakala alvaranga)) mayor libby schaaf says the city has found a partner in the fight to keep the raiders in oakland -- the lott group. "we're excited that for the first time we're working not just the passion to keep the raiders in oakland but also the capacity to put upfront the amount of capital it will take to privately finance a stadium." ((shakala alvaranga)) schaaf, who has adamantly opposed using public money for the stadium, was tight-lipped about the deal but says financially ... it works. "private money would go to build the stadium, whereas we would only use new revenues generated by the project itself." ((shakala alvaranga)) framework announcement, nevada governor brian sandoval says: "i trust mark davis. i take him at his word. i will continue to monitor the process established by the nfl." the raiders did not respond to a request for comment tuesday. but schaaf says owner mark davis is aware of the framework. "it's my job to bring him a real deal that is competitive with las vegas or any other market and that is what i'm hoping to have the opportunity to do the plan still needs approval by the oakland city council. it will be brought to the board in a closed session next tuesday. shakala alvaranga 8 news now. ((denise valdez)) one man is dead and the search is on for his killer. it started as a call for shots fire in the 51-hundred block of east twain near nellis. now it's a homicide investigation. reporter brittany edney was first on the sn brittany? ((brittany edney)) >> i'm told when responders first arrived on scene, two people were performing cpr trying to save the victim but the male in his 20's-to-maybe early 30's did die on scene. while police say there was at least one witness, they're still trying to figure out what exactly happened. and it's still too early in the case to pinpoint an exact motive or give a suspect description. but a witness told police they then get on nellis. there's still no word yet as to whether this could have been gang or narcotics related. investigators say when the shooting happened... people did the right thing and alerted police. ((sgt matthew sanford, metro police "this time of year there tends to be more interaction with public and sometimes that interaction leads to shootings and sometimes homicides. so just be vigilent, be aware of your surroundings. if you see or hear something happening, please call 911 don't approach people and let the police handle it." )) it >> this is the 153rd homicide in metro's jurisdiction this year... anyone with any information on this case can make an anonymous call to crimestoppers. reporting live, brittany edney, 8 news now./// ((denise valdez)) >> cyber attacks.. happening right here in the valley. and it seems casinos could be easy targets. ((dave courvoisier)) >> we're talking about hackers... major local corporations.. and ransom.. we connect the dots.. investigation.../// this is 8 news now at eleven." ((dave courvoisier)) tonight.. part two of our i-team investigation into cyber security, anyone can fall victim to cyber crime. ((denise valdez)) >> but hackers have zeroed in on some large targets here in las vegas: hotels and casinos. the i-team's vanessa murphy tells us it's an expensive -- dark secret that few want to admit bei protect customer information... none would agree to any interviews and no official comments. ((jonathan: nobody wants to show where they're weak. and i think that's one of the problems that we have in terms of responding to cyber security threats.)) ((vanessa murphy)) jonathan narveson is a managing director at accenture - a global company which helps businesses with technology. ((jonathan: whether you're talking industry wide in banking, in insurance, in casinos, across the board, cyber crime is a vey those firms.)) ((vanessa murphy)) turns out iranian hackers may have been to blame for the attack against international gaming giant las vegas sands - the venetian and palazzo websites were taken down and employee personal information was stolen... according to bloomberg, damage was estimated at 40-million dollars. ((jonathan: we see it from the cyber activists who know, the old classic college guy in a bedroom in his basement who's doing the attacks.)) ((vanessa murphy)) arresting the hackers rarely happens... ((adam pranter/fbi: how many we can actually get our hands, that's become harder and harder because the nature of the internet, right? is such that you know every corner of the world can attack anyone anywhere else so vegas isn't immune to that.)) ((vanessa murphy)) pranter runs the f-b-i cyber squad in las vegas. he says cyber attacks have cost businesses in the valley millions - and the i-team has learned that's for a variety of reasons... ((vanessa murphy/reporter: are companies paying ransom to hackers? adam: i believe some companies are paying ransom to hackers. yes. we advise that they not pay ransom you know for the same reason we don't want to keep that - because they're making money off these - we don't want to keep that organization having often times - hackers will lock information until digital currency is transferred in a nearly untraceable way - and when a company's livelihood is threatened - well....they send the money. ((vanessa murphy/reporter: have any if your local clients paid ransom? troy wilkinson/axiom: yes.)) ((vanessa murphy)) troy wilkinson runs axiom cyber solutions which provides security for businesses in las ga ((troy: we never recommend paying the ransom simply because we're going to encourage this behavior.)) ((vanessa murphy)) the businesses end up funding the enemy. and since there's no requirement to report any attack or whether ransom is paid...the problem is difficult to get ahold of and fight. ((adam: it's difficult for me as well to quantify a lot of what is going on out there.)) ((vanessa murphy)) the head of the nevada gaming control board would not agree to an on camera interview.... property has affected gaming operations... and businesses are encouraged to report any attacks - but again they are not required... ((troy: it's the perfect storm of hackers having the ability to take advantage of open vulnerabilities.))
