span, it will be like occupying a newly built house, with a few things left to complete on the punch list. >> tops on that punch list is a permanent fix for the broken bolts. a temporary fix will be chase that hits speeds at more than 100 miles per hour. investigators say they recovered a tec-9 assault weapon at that scene. the chase started around 7:10 in san leandro, and wound through hayward before reaching oakland. at one point, the suspects drove the wrong way on interstate 580. just minutes ago, authorities in mountain view announced they have located a young woman who went missing yesterday on her 21st birthday after getting into a fight with her sister. the developing news from maureen naylor live at a gas station on shore line boulevard, where the woman was last seen before she disappeared. >> reporter: police initially said the woman was last seen last night about 7:00 here at the shell gas station. they're happy to report that the young woman has been found safe and sound in san mateo county. the woman went missing yesterday around 7:00 last night. police were concerned because she had been celebrating her 21st birthday. she's from out of state, and did not have her cell phone when she walked away after a fight with her sister had no way of getting in contact of her family. word just about 20 minutes ago, 21-year-old melinda alexander has been found safe. police tweeting out the information, saying she's been safely found, and that they're happy and grateful for all the public's help. reporting live tonight in mountain view, maureen naylor, ktvu, channel 2 news. candles were lit, and prayers offered tonight to honor the memory of sandra coke. she's the federal investigator who's body was found last week several days after she went missing. ♪ [ i don't want to say goodbye yet. i may see you later. and i can't wait for that day when we meet at heaven's gate. >> she disappeared from oakland on august 4. her body was found in vacaville last friday. she was last seen with a man she once dated. a paroled high risk sex offender. he has been jailed on a parole violation. she leaves behind a 15-year-old daughter. the california supreme court today tossed out the last remaining legal challenge to same sex marriage. supporters of prop 8 argued that only the two couples named in the landmark case should be allowed to marry. today, the judges refused to hear the emergency petition. more than 8,000 marijuana plants were discovered today at a grow site. operation pristine is part of annual effort to clean up the state's most contaminated illegal marijuana farms. they posted this picture on facebook. helicopters removed the pot plants, as well as trash and equipment from the illegal grow site. san jose's ciscoe systems is cutting jobs. car lost power. we now know the identity of a bicyclist killed today, when she was hit by a box truck making a right turn. it happened in san francisco's south of market neighborhood. this evening, the medical examiner told us, she was a 23- year-old woman. >> reporter: it was just after 7:00 a.m., police say the bicyclist was heading east on folsom in the bicycle lane, when a box truck made a right turn into 6th street and hit her. >> he says he hears a noise and sees a bicyclist laying down on the road. >> reporter: police say the driver stayed on the scene, he apparently said he didn't see the cyclist. those who ride regularly say the city can be a dangerous place to share the road. >> about 75% of the bike lane has been implemented throughout the city. >> reporter: that citywide bike plan has led to new traffic signals. >> lanes like this, with the green, it's very helpful to drivers, letting them know there is a bicycle lane here. >> reporter: bicyclists say the city could do even more such as copenhagen. >> bicyclists also have their own light. cars know when bike traffic is going to be coming and going. >> tonight, the san francisco bicycle coalition posted a message on their webb sippet. they tell me they have been calling for years for a complete resign of folsom street south of market. the police say the truck driver was not cited, or arrested. the investigation is ongoing. in san francisco, jana katsuyama. >> more details now, it says this is the third time this year that a bicyclist has been struck and killed in the city. the coalition says alabama today did not issue a distress call. it happened as they approached the birmingham international airport. the plane crashed on a road parallel to the airport, just about a half mile north of berkely, and explains why the it is renewing the debate over electronic privacy. >> reporter: it's estimated 425 million people used google's free web service, gmail. some are pausing before hitting send. privacy isn't necessarily on the menu, with people easily able to peer over your shoulder during a computer session. but those on their laptops here tonight do expect privacy when it comes to their emails. >> my expectation when i send an email, is it's between me and the recipient. i send emails to my vendors, to my employees. a lot of those emails have confidential, you know, financial information about my business. i don't want just anybody reading them. >> reporter: in an effort to have a class action data mining lawsuit dismissed, google filed a notion, saying users should expect the content of their emails to be scanned. saying a person has no legitimate expectation of privacy in information he voluntarily turns over to third parties. >> if it it isn't confidential, then who able to see it, and what is able to see it, and what things can be extracted from it? >> reporter: he knew they scanned information, but is more concerned now. >> is this an open door for whoever, whatever is coming through now? >> reporter: google says in a statement it takes privacy, and security very seriously, and that it has built industry leading security into g mail. she isn't surprised or outraged, but will be more conscious. >> it makes me more aware of how much, we're probably being spied on. >> reporter: when you use a third party's email service, whether you're the sender or receiver, you should expect those messages to go through automated processing. that is likely something that you agreed to when you checked off on those terms and conditions. reporting live tonight in berkely, heather holmes, ktvu, channel 2 news. san jose police say a female student was robbed at gun point, and a male student who tried to help was apparently pistol whipped, as classes let out today. police say the male student was bleeding heavily, and was taken to the hospital. his wounds are not considered life-threatening. the gunman was described as african american, or of middle eastern dissent. we are learning new details of a pit bull attack over the weekend. taken as he was wheeled right into surgery in sacramento. hunter was visiting a friend's house in antioch, when a pit bull knocked him to the found and started biting. another joined in the attack, until hunter's friend was able to pull the dogs off. >> he said mommy, i don't want to die. i was like, baby, you're not going to die. you're going to be fine. >> hunter's mother says the owners have euthanized one of the dogs, the other is in custody of animal services. a family vowed to keep the story of their missing little girl alive. what daphne webb's relatives did today, and what they plan to do every week until the toddler is found. >> reporter: searching for answers, more than a month after daphne webb's mysterious disappearance. today, about 20 of her relatives and friends marched from oakland police headquarters to city hall. what they called a love walk. >> still, as hope. as we were from day 1. we want her back. >> reporter: daphne's father told police the 21-month-old was kidnapped from his car, while he was inside a store. so far, no sign of the toddler, and her mother doesn't think police have making progress. >> i know they tried to do what they could do. but it does feel like it is at a stand still. >> reporter: oakland police tell me more than a dozen investigators are actively working on the case. >> at no time as the investigation been at a stand still. that's understandable, when you're not privy to information behind the scenes, such as the investigation. >> reporter: daphne's father john webb didn't take part in today's march. and some relatives don't buy his story that the toddler was taken by a stranger. >> it's kind of obvious, everything is not fitting together. the whole thing seems kind of fishy. >> reporter: on the way to city hall, the family handed out these flyers to people. they want to keep daphne's face out there. daphne's family will continue to march like this every week. until she's found. in oakland, alex savage, ktvu, channel 2 news. for the second time in less than a week, there has been trouble at a catholic church. the most recent problem, an attempted burglary. police arrested desean davis outside the church. police say davis was found walking out of the church with burglary tools. four days earlier, police arrested a transient who vandalized the church. police say that man rous statue other items following a fight with his girlfriend. investigators say it doesn't appear the two incidents are related. food truck vendors will line up outside san francisco international, to serve hot dishes to hungry customers. the airport tweeted the news this afternoon. a trial period proved so successful that airport officialsed decided to extend it indefinitely. 2013, turning out to be a pretty good year for california wine makers. u.s. wine exports jumped 6% in value to $712 million. 90% of those exports more. >> reporter: tonight, i spoke with two bay area egyptians have have family and friends in their home country. monitoring the violence with heavy hearts. he puts up the flag of his homeland, next to the american flag, when he sets up his food truck in oakland. >> by the way, i built that truck. >> reporter: he tells me, he started building a life here in the united states, after serving in the egyptian military as a young man. >> they trained me to be the perfect killing machine. >> reporter: he left when he realized, his outspoken views were not shared by the government. he disagrees with his removal by the military. >> you cannot do it that way, because he's elected. what you need to do, you need to amend the decision. >> reporter: he found out three of his friends were killed earlier today in cairo. 37-year-old mohammed talat told me he found out about one of the deaths through facebook. he says his friend was in downtown cairo to observe the protests when he was shot. he says he's worried about the future of democracy in egypt. >> it's very ugly. i just don't know if we can go back to that state of mind again. >> reporter: he says the violence now comes at no surprise. >> sometimes the route to democracy is extremely rocky. i would not rule out the possibility of democracy in egypt. >> my father and mother are in cairo. >> reporter: he tells me he was planning to fly to cairo to see his parents in two weeks. now those plans have changed. he says he is in constant contact with his family, wondering when the violence will end. >> so sad, and knowing what's happening there, just being here, must feel so helpless. >> reporter: he does, he's monitoring it very closely. >> thank you amber. we now know the identity of a woman killed by a front loader on the campus of san jose city college. we've learned she was a former student looking to enroll back into school. construction work has come to a halt as investigators try to figure out how the 49-year-old was killed. a san jose woman was walking near the fine arts building yesterday when a front loader backed into her. gonzalez was rushed to the valley medical center, where she died. a chief operator of preston pipelines, points out the section of walkway presents a unique problem. >> we could not barricade that off, because it is a fire lane. >> we did our best to secure the rest of the sites. but it's just a tragic, tragic accident. >> campus police and the police department are investigating the work site accident. new includes in a brutal attack. the surveillance photos police want you to take a look at tonight. also, new $100 bills on hold. the problem causing the delay. >> up first, proteste new at 10:00, protesters in san francisco called for a boycott of stoli vodka before an event sever their sister city ties in russia are growing. members in at least 27 cities have launched campaigns. there are now two petitions. the san francisco police need the public's help to find the man accused of a brutal attack in the marina district. police say he attacked another man with a knife at union and buchanan streets around 1:00 a.m. sunday, august 4. the victim was hospitalized, and is now recovering at home. police say the suspect is described as a white or latino man between 20 and 30 years old. anyone with information is asked to call san francisco police. her son was murdered seven years ago today. a mother says she will never give up hope of finding his killers. ken pritchett was with her. >> reporter: aubrey's face has been on a fire like this, on this pole at grave and baker almost every day for 7 years. >> i didn't get to say bye. and i didn't get to tell him i loved him. i didn't get to say anything, he died alone. >> reporter: her 17-year-old son had just left his house, when he saw a group of men, two had guns. the street was crowded. >> he came out into the street and said run. run. and everybody ran. and the person that was left was my son. >> reporter: this is the scene in 2006, brown says her son was shot in the middle of the street when the men turned on him, and opened fire for reasons unknown. he was shot 30 times. every year she returns to this corner for prayer and to seek justice. >> we prayed for the perpetrators that you touch their consciouses. >> reporter: she was joined by police who also seek information in the case and by elsie. she too has a $250,000 reward and no answers. >> i've been wondering since 7 years ago, why this hasn't been solved. she'll keep coming to this corner as long as it takes. >> i'm tired. i'm tired of being tired. but i can't stop. >> reporter: brown says she's used the tragic death of her son to bond with other mothers looking for justice, and to seep tougher laws against high capacity, semi automatic handguns. in san francisco, ken pritchett, ktvu, channel 2 news. the legal battle involving santa clara county's sales tax hike is now over. voters approved the 1/8 of a cent hike in april. the group had lost previous appeals, now that all the litigation is resolved, the state can release $11 million in sales tax it had held. called on the accrediting commission. the call comes one day after they found the commission violated procedures. a spokesperson called the violations minor. the feds finding were in response to complainted filed by the union. a hero's welcome as israel released 26 palestinian prisoners as part of an american deal. many of those released had served 20 years, or more in prison for deadly attacks against israelis. in india, naval divers opened the main hatch way high profile -- the brother of a murder victim used a truck to sound off about the case. >> reporter: among those attending the trial is larry rowgash, the brother of one of the women joseph was charged with murdering. last friday afternoon, he parked his truck in the lot with a sign that lead. >> joseph murdered my sister, roxine rowgash. >> reporter: the prosecutor detailed the death of her nude strangled body. she said quote, when the defendant placed the ligature around her neck, he had to hold it tight for five minutes. he knows he has her life in his hand. naso has been acting as his own attorney. he quietly acted as the prosecutor today. >> he says i am looking forward to my opportunity to present my closing arguments. >> i'm not going to feel any better, it's going to be closure. but i'm still going to miss her. >> reporter: naso is scheduled to give his own closing arguments this friday. if convicted, he could be eligible for the death penalty. in marin county, rob roth, ktvu, channel 2 news. police in campbell are looking for three men who robbed a u.s. bank on bascom avenue this afternoon. two of the robbers pulled off the takeoff style robbery. officers said the men ordered them to bank vault, where they took about $50,000. a third robber was waiting outside. that vehicle was found abandoned a short distance from the bank. the u.s. department of agriculture says it will cost $241,000 over 18 years for a middle income couple to raise a child born last year. that number does not include the cost of college. it's up almost 3% from 2011. housing, healthcare, and childcare costs are rising, but wages are not keeping pace. a bay area mother, heartbroken over the death of her son. the technology combo police hope will finally generate some leads on social media. facebook may help people feel connected, but it doesn't seem to make them happier. those are the findings of researchers at the university of machine. the study found that the more people used facebook, the worst they felt. they found those who use facebook the most had the steepest drop in satisfaction levels. volunteers gathered in san francisco again to mark a milestone in that fog is really going to push inland. that will be there when you wake up for most bay area communities. slightly cooler tomorrow. in the weekend, morning fog, and then just mild, and warm weather. subtle changes for the bay area weekend. this high pressure center warmed us up the last couple of days, but this low is going to push it away. the highs weakened a bit. this low drops down, and takes that fog bank and makes it go right up over the golden gate bridge and cools everybody. still about a 1200-foot inversion. it will stretch out over the next few days, and temperatures will correspondingly drop. numbers, as we head into thursday and friday will get cooler. we're going to find numbers, instead of in the mid-90s, mostly 80s the forecast for the fog and the morning. there it is. shooting across at 6:00 a.m. in the livermore valley. then it burns off. daytime highs, 90s are reds. oranges are 80s, then cool at the coast. about like today, but slightly cooler in the
