good morning, everyone, i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, january 29th. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist, lisa argen. >> good morning, carolyn. a dry weather pattern has settled over the bay area. as we look at live doppler 7 it is picking up on the lack of cloud cover. the view from sutro, we call that our chamber of commerce shot where we've got the blue sky, temperatures in the low to mid-40s on this panel. half moon bay with an east wind at 55 degrees. the wind kind of pierce right now. you can see it blowing on the flag. those high clouds will thin out and we have a lot of sunshine on the way. so your forecast today calls for 50s by noon time. then we're looking at low 60s, above average, several days of dry weather. stay tuned for the accuweather seven-day forecast. we're bringing rain back. >> thank you, lisa. protests are expected again this morning at airports here in the bay area and across the country against president donald trump's executive order banning the immigration of refugees from seven nations, including syria, yemen, sudan, somalia, iraq, iran and libya. a large rally is being planned for noon today at sfo. a federal judge's stay suspending deportations is doing nothing to stop anger against the president's actions. this was the scene at sfo last night where at one point a thousand people or so gathered to protest the controversial executive order. the stay issued by a federal judge in new york temporarily blocks the government from deporting anyone from the u.s. under that executive order, but it does not stop the overall ban. federal judges in virginia and seattle have since followed suit. this morning we have new details on the number of people detained following president trump's executive order. 375 travelers have been impacted by the order. of those 109 were in the air and denied entry when they arrived. 173 of them were turned back prior to boarding flights for the united states. republican majority leader mitch mcconnell and on "this week" today to talk about this executive order. when asked if he supports president trump's ban, he had this to say. >> i think it's a good idea to tighten the vetting process, but i also think it's important to remember that some of our best sources in the war against radical islamic terrorism are muslims, both in this country and overseas. >> leader mcconnell says he hopes it's going to be decided in the courts whether the ban has gone too far. the new york judge's order will ensure those detained will not be sent home for the time being, but that's not enough for people fighting the president's executive order. abc 7 news reporter sergio quintana has more on the anger driving the protesters. >> reporter: some protesters moved their demonstration from the arrivals level to tsa security. and a team of lawyers began piecing together details about people who may need their help. >> the three that i'm waiting for, i'm looking forward to seeing them on the other side. >> reporter: she is an attorney who's here to help three people from iran. according to mayor ed lee's office, seven people were temporarily detained here at sfo because they hold passports from the seven countries that president donald trump band in an executive order friday. during this protest, the crowd did get good news. >> we just got news that a judge in the eastern district of new york granted an emergency stay of the executive order. >> reporter: according to the judge's order, anyone in transit to the u.s. or detained upon arrival who has a valid visa or green card would not be affected by president trump's order. it capped a day of panic and dismay for lots of families. >> she arrived at 1:30 p.m. to san francisco airport. but they deport her to my country. >> reporter: this protest at sfo ballooned to about a thousand people at one point. it included state and local officials, who said president trump's executive order triggered chaos and confusion for people who had to interpret and enforce it. >> it feels chaotic. it feels unsettling. it feels really dark. and it is really a frustrating situation to be in. >> reporter: organizers say they plan on being here for the long haul. at sfo, i'm sergio quintana, abc 7 news. in seattle, police used pepper spray and arrested protesters blocking security checkpoints and exits. about 3,000 people demonstrated against the president's immigration ban well into early this morning. hundreds of people are still there right now. airport man in critical condition. it happened at 9:45 last night on cavallo road east 18th street. when officers arrived they found the victim who was shot at least twice while sitting in a parked car. police describe him as a 35-year-old man from oakland. again, he's in critical but stable condition. the family of a woman who's been missing since last saturday will be back out today looking for her. officials say 18-year-old jayda jenkins was driving her car when it plunged into the alameda creek last weekend. abc 7 news reporter leslie brinkly has the story. >> reporter: it was a physically grueling and emotionally charged search effort, with teams fanning out along the vast creek bed. about 100 volunteers joined the family as they went west of the creek on out to the bay where the waterway is lined with walking trails. >> i've got a couple of co-workers willing to bring out their kayaks and go out to the bay to take a look at areas that we can't get into on foot, just trying to find her and bring her home. >> east of here, another official search zeroed in on the creek in steep nielles canyon where the car plunged into the waters. waters were five feet higher and flowing three times faster. her car was recovered tuesday, but no sign of the 18-year-old. niles canyon road was shut down to traffic as an army of experts converged here, including canine teams and search and rescue teams from all across the bay area. >> they're going to get down closer to the water. they're going to look for things that haven't been able to be searched before. >> we are doing everything that wecan. we have boots on the ground, we have our uavs up, we have canines out and we're putting every effort forward to make sure that we bring jayda home to her family. >> reporter: volunteers who found clothes or shoes texted photos back to her dad to see if they were significant. jenkins' determined family plans to be back out here in full force on sunday. they said she's strong so we're going strong to find her. in fremont, i'm leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. governor jerry brown is scheduled to undergo a new round of cancer treatment in san francisco, but he says he won't miss any work. the governor's office says he'll be treated sometime between late next month and early march at ucsf. doctors diagnosed brown with prostate cancer back in late 2012 and he underwent treatment for several weeks. this is now some additional treatment for that. his doctors say the governor's prognosis is excellent. the 78-year-old brown is expected to continue with his work schedule during the treatment. the oakland a's are expected to announce the site of their new ballpark sometime this year. at yesterday's fanfest, the team president said the organization has narrowed it down to four locations, howard terminal near jack london square, lany college, brooklyn basin and a new park at the coliseum if the raiders move. one of those locations is likely to be chosen by the end of this year. well, we've got a bit of a warming spell today anyway. >> yeah, we have some gusty offshore winds right now that are boosting the temperatures in some spots, but quite breezy. here in santa cruz, numbers are in the 40s. we have 55 half moon bay and those winds will dial back, but everyone pretty much into the 40s now, so we had a warmer start, we'll have a warmer finish. how long will it last? i'll give you a hint, tomorrow is looking pretty good too. i'll have the full forecast just moments away. a man bursts into a fast food restaurant in the south bay demonstrating against president trump's immigration ban. last night upwards of a thousand people or so were there at sfo and at airports all over the country hundreds and thousands protesting this executive order temporarily banning refugees from coming into the country. we'll have more on our newscast this morning and throughout the day. a robbery suspect is in custody this morning thanks to quick action by workers and a customer at a fast food restaurant in san jose. it's all caught on surveillance video. it happened around 10:30 friday night at the taco bell/kfc. you can see the man holding his hand out right after the cashier gives him the money. another employee runs up from behind and snatches it away. he then starts fighting with the would be robber and a customer jumps over the railing to help hold him down. >> a very volatile situation that could have gone either way but in this instance it worked out very well. >> the suspect went to the hospital with minor injuries. no one else was hurt. demolition is set to begin tomorrow on a cliffside apartment building in pacifica. it is teetering on the edge of an eroding cliff. abc 7 news was there yesterday as crews finished removing hazardous material from the site. the city yellow tagged the building after recent storms caused more of the cliffside to go away. they have had to knock down two other buildings because of erosion. 3,000 security guards at tech companies in silicon valley are now members of a union. abc 7 news was in san jose as the service employees international union welcomed them yesterday. the guards work at companies like facebook, cisco and google. the union is now negotiating contracts for higher pay. right now most earn $12 to $20 an hour and they say that's simply not enough to live comfortably here in the bay area, especially with families to support. >> $2,000 a month you're lucky to get a one bedroom apartment. so we have to live with other family members. >> abc 7 news contacted the contractors and the tech companies involved. facebook the only one that got back to us saying they're not commenting. the company referred us to its policy requiring outside contractors to provide a $15 minimum wage and 15 paid days off. if you are a little tired of the wet weather, you probably will like the next couple of days. but we have everything in the seven-day outlook, wet weather coming back and snow in the mountains. here's a look at live doppler 7. the cloud cover to the north of us and west of us as that's where it's going to stay. you see the thin clouds here in san francisco. it's still chilly in the north bay, 38 in santa rosa, 39 in livermore but not as cold as it's been. we're warming up around novato and fairfield with mid-40s there. 44 in napa. this view we have a little bit of wind in the upper elevations. this is from our east bay hills camera. hazy, that's what we get when we have high pressure in the wintertime. the particulates become more obvious in the atmosphere but we have warmer temperatures and a dry 72 hourso aed hf us. 49 in san francisco, 43 in oakland, breezy winds at 55 degrees. are we warmer this morning? we are. we didn't have a lot of fog so we're a couple of degrees warmer. this is that hazy shot from our sutro tower camera showing a lot of sunshine now. so a chilly start, a mild finish. more sun with 60s arriving tomorrow afternoon, the warmest day. then increasing clouds for your tuesday. wednesday it looks dry for the most part until late in the day and we're looking at several days of scattered showers. but in review, season to date we're doing just fine with 184% of normal. that's about 38 inches of rain since october for santa rosa. sfo 164% of normal. innocent view, you can see, 136. oakland doing very well, san francisco has picked up about 18 inches of rain. san jose about 10 inches of rain and that translates into 127% of normal. so we will look for the temperatures to continue to be mild. just around average or slightly above today at 61 sausalito, 64 tomorrow on the peninsula for redwood city but approaching 70 on the far reaches of santa rosa and also san jose. that's for your monday. and then into tuesday, cooler. as the winds shift we'll get a little fog and slower warming. so our storm impact scale, we bring it into play for you on wednesday. light scattered showers, maybe a 0.1 of an inch of rain. it looks like the rain is holding back and we won't see it until late in the day on wednesday. we'll go into a wetter pattern on thursday with breezy conditions. scattered showers will take us through your friday morning commute and then we will look for it looks like a somewhat dry weekend. so 60s all around the bay. looking at the accuweather seven-day forecast, temperatures will begin to cool on tuesday with the clouds in some spots but really it's the 1 on our storm impact scale. you'll want to stay tuned for wednesday, thursday and friday. >> i'm ready to flirt with the 70s. >> yeah, why not. it's been a while, right? >> thanks, lisa. north carolina's governor says there are enough votes to kill that state's controversial bathroom bill. the bill requires people to use the restroom according to the gender listed on their birth certificate. that forces transgender people to use a bathroom with a gender they don't identify with. the associated press reports less than a third of lawmakers are willing to publicly commit to repeal the measure. volkswagen luxury audi brand is recalling hundreds of thousands of cars here in the u.s. for two defects. in all, more than 576,000 cars are being recalled. 2013 to 2017, a 5, af and q 5 suvs have emergencies that have a coolant pump that can get blocked by debris. 2011 to 2017 q5 suvs are also being recalled because of drain ablg from the sun roof can soak airbag deflators. recalls start next month. internet providers are still working on providing fiber optic cable for everybody that wants it. a small company is offering to fill the gap, but one couple had a hard time getting in on that deal until 7 on your side's michael finney stepped in. >> richard and sherri could spend hours viewing historic photos online and sometimes it took that long. >> we have lived with a very slow speed internet. >> so slow that some applications would time out. >> the couple lives in san francisco's outer sunset where internet wiring is outdated. so they were thrilled when sonic of santa rosa offered new fiber optic service. >> i got a postcard in the mail. >> they could have high speed internet, phone and tv for $120 a month. >> it sounded like a good idea and was cheaper. >> and so we went with it. >> but weeks passed and no one came to install it, so they called sonic and found out why. >> they had us in their system as an apartment building. therefore, they didn't want to deal with us. >> the couple tried to explain they live in a single family home and they own it. >> i said there is no apartment buildings for a mile in radius where we live out in the outer sunset, and we are a house but they said i'm sorry, you're still an apartment building. >> and sonic kept saying it couldn't reach their landlord to get permission to wire their building. >> it was pretty frustrating. i was a little bit mifed. >> finally they contacted 7 on your side. we contacted sonic. a supervisor corrected the mistake and got them their service. >> i'm living in the 21st century now, thank you. out in the outer sunset. >> sonic tells us overwhelming demand caused a backlog and the apartment building problem, someone got two orders mixed up. a company spokesman telling us we'll take the experience here and work to streamline and accelerate our processes for new dozens of volunteers unloaded and sorted more than 115,000 boxes of girl scout cookies. the boxes go on sale starting next weekend and the scouts are eager and ready to sell. >> and just the satisfaction of knowing that you sold a lot of boxes and you're helping the girl scouts. >> organizers say selling those cookies teaches the girls skills needed to run a business such as managing stock and making change and young aubry there tells us she hopes to sell 500 boxes this year. a federal judge issues an emergency stay on part of president trump's immigration ban, as the protest everyone. we're starting this half hour with a look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> hi, everyone. it may not be breezy at your house but as you look at the winds here with the flag blowing you know that we do have some coastal breezes out there and that will translate into warmer afternoon temperatures. so the breeze yesterday was pretty stiff at this hour. then we had a nice afternoon at the beach. 44 in mountain view right now as well as gilroy. that's what i mean, 57. it boosts the temperatures early but quite gusty and then we'll see some of that warmth. 48 in fairfield, 39 in livermore and the view shows a little bit of haze out there. temperatures will be quicker to warm this morning. this afternoon it's a milder finish into the low 60s and we have another carbon copy on tap for tomorrow, but the changes begin on tuesday. carolyn. now to president trump's controversial executive order calling for an immediate suspension of immigration from seven predominantly muslim countries. protests have broken out at airports across the nation, including sfo. this is a live look at the airport where dozens of people are waiting. a large rally is being planned for noon today. we spoke with people who were waiting for their loved ones at sfo last night. >> this is like really sad that you're personally getting affected. everything is sad if you're like putting a group of people from a certain country or certain religion aside and say you guys shouldn't come. i'm saying stay calm, don't stress out, but it's just not easy. >> a federal judge in new york has issued appear emergency stay blocking part of that executive order. federal judges in virginia and seattle followed suit, but the trump administration appears unmoved. many protesters stayed at sfo until past 3:00 this morning. >> from all this terrorist stuff, we came here as refugees, my mother is not going to be able to enter the united states, which means we'll have to go back there. >> and again, we told you they are gathering today. san francisco mayor ed lee's office tells us seven people were temporarily detained at sfo because they held passports from one of those seven countries. officials say 375 travelers nationwide were impacted by the executive order. of those, 109 were in transit and denied entry once they arrived in this country. 173 of them were turned away prior to boarding flights headed to the u.s. earlier this morning, president trump took to twitter to address the ban. he said, quote, our country needs strong borders and extreme vetting. now. look what's happening all over europe and indeed the word. a horrible mess. white house press secretary sean spicer is talking about the executive order this morning. spicer appearing on "this week" today to discuss the ban which some say is unamerican. he says it comes down to the 109 people who were in the air and denied entry when they arrived. spicer says the 90-day ban will ensure there's further vetting so they know who's coming into the country. >> the safety of the american citizens, the safety of our country has got to be paramount and that's what the president did yesterday to ensure that the people that we're letting into our country are coming here with peaceful purposes and not to do us harm. >> spicer explains the vetting process is to ensure those who come into the country, as he said, have peaceful purposes. the president's executive order had a real impact for one family we spoke with at sfo. they were among dozens of people eagerly waiting for their loved ones. abc 7 news reporter kate larson has the story. >> reporter: while protesters and their shouts filled sfo's terminal, families with loved ones detained behind customs doors waited for hours in a quiet hallway. >> since yesterday it's been like hell, honestly. >> reporter: her 80-year-old father, a permanent u.s. resident with a green card was held by customs and border protection for six hours after he arrived from iran by way of germany. he and others were detained or september back to the middle east after president trump ordered an immediate immigration suspension from seven predominantly muslim countries with ties to terror, but none of the countries on the list had anything to do with terror attacks on u.s. soil. >> come on, mr. president. i mean, come on. >> reporter: president trump says his intentions are to keep radical muslim terrorists out of the united states. her father traveled here this weekend in a wheelchair to stay with his family in marin county and celebrate his grandson's ninth birthday. >> it's his grandpa, lovely grandpa, who happens to be muslim and who happens to be coming from iran. >> reporter: he can thank a new york judge for his grandpa after they barred deporting those with valid visas. >> it's really nice that i can see him again after two years of waiting to see him. >> reporter: now, she is not sure her father should travel back to iran for fear he might not get back to the united states. not all families were so lucky tonight. one woman i spoke to who is a student here in the bay area, her mother tried to visit from iran. when she landed at sfo, she was put back on a plane to the middle east. she hasn't seen her mom in more than a year and now she's not sure when they'll be reunited. kate larson, abc 7 news. california lieutenant governor gavin newsom joined protesters at sfo last night and he had a blunt message about president trump's executive order. >> they have no respect. this guy is operating as if he's a monarch through executive fiat. you've got a complicit congress with no backbone whatsoever. guys like paul ryan, a joke. >> newsom met with family members waiting for their loved ones. he said he's frustrated he's unable to help families divided by the presidential order. >> no hate, no fear, refugees are welcome here. >> in new york, hundreds protested after 11 were detained at jfk. more than 2,000 people demonstrated there. the agency that runs the airport tried to restore order by shutting down the train that runs to airport terminals, but governor andrew cuomo reversed that decision saying people have a right to protest. san francisco based lyft is pledging to donate $1 million to the american civil liberties union in response to the president's immigration ban. in an e-mail to customers this morning, lyft co-founders john zimmer and aaron green said they're donating to help defend the constitution. the e-mail says we stand fimplly against these actions.l not be statements are set to start tomorrow in the trial of the man accused of killing morgan hill teenager sierra lamar. if convicted, the suspect faces a possible death sentence. police arrested garcia torres three months after lamar disappeared while on her way to school in 2012. his trial has been delayed several times since then. she was 15 years old when she vanished, her body has never been found. daly city police are searching for three men seen running from the scene of a double shooting. two girls were wounded during a party inside a sen center yesterday afternoon. the center is on lake merced boulevard. one girl was shot in the leg, the other was grazed by a bullet. police say both victims are under the age of 18. no word what led to the gunfire. an injured backcountry skier is recovering from injuries he suffered in the high sierra. a highway patrol helicopter was called in to rescue him. you're seeing now video from the chopper showing the injured skier being airlifted to safety. he hurt his leg near the boreal ski resort. fellow skiers called for help and the highway patrol flew the man to a waiting ambulance where he was taken to the hospital for treatment. still ahead on abc mornings, the other controversial issue drawing a huge protest against the president in the bay area. and silicon valley leaders voice concern at president trump's immigration order. the [ crowd chanting ] chanting "yes we can" in spanish, dozens of people to move forward with the construction of the dakota oil pipeline. abc 7 news was in san francisco as they marched through the mission district. protesters say the pipeline will destroy the environment. supporters say it reduces reliance on foreign oil. many silicon valley tech leaders say president trump's immigration order will hurt employees and their bottom line and the nba is questioning the impact it will have on sports. abc's jim avila has reaction to the president's move. several industry execs say trump's ban on immigrants from some muslim countries has immediate impact. apple's ceo tim cook writing to his staff the company would not exist without immigration, let alone thrive and innovate the way we do. ceos of google, facebook, microsoft and others speaking out against the travel restrictions as well. the airbnb ceo going above and beyond on twitter saying his company is providing free housing to refugees and anyone not allowed in the u.s. the fight expanding into the movie world. trump's policy may keep this 2012 oscar winner from attending the academy awards next month. the iranian director of the film "the salesman" is nominated for best foreign language film. the nba this morning calling itself a global business asking the trump administration how the executive order would apply to players in our league. despite trump's campaign promises to do just this, sources at the department of homeland security say the actual order was implemented so quickly, border and custom agents had no new training or systems to process the refugees and immigrants in question. and in fact had to use existing protocols leading to some of the delays. jim avila, abc 7 news, los angeles. and we will be following this story on all our platforms today, but right here right now lisa talking weather. >> yeah, you know, january ending on a dry note but there's still three days left so that's a tease for you. you can look at the beach right now. 55 degrees. half moon bay, it's 50 in the city and we're warmer than yesterday at this time. we will finish warmer and tomorrow almost as nice. and then the rain returns. we'll talk about it, next. >> thank you, lisa. also next, the warriors dominated the clippers last night. a monster game from steph curry, a curry flurry, including this shot from 51 feet out. mike shumann has the highlights coming up in sports. and the signature sweater and the dance moves are traveling outside oracle. the warriors famous dancing mom takes her show on the dancing mom is taking her show on the road. this is the woman who gets down with her dancing at warriors games. she paid a visit to a middle school dance competition in san carlos last week. the kids have been watching videos of robin shriver, the lady's name. teachers hope it teaches them to take risks and city of out of their comfort zone. jessica shared this video with us. she thrilled when shriver accepted the invitation to visit and show her stuff. in sports the warriors are on the road again for the second game of a back-to-back. tipoff is at 6:00. golden state is coming off a blowout win over the clippers last night at oracle. here's shu with all the highlights in this morning's sports. good morning. well, the warriors had some concerns last night pregame against their southern cal rivals, the clippers, with steph curry's quad. he had some issues, decided to play and threw down 43 points, 25 in the third quarter. i'd say his quadricep muscle is just fine. you could tell in warmups steph was ready to roll and he found his groove early and often. he showed no pain in the first half but dealt the clippers some, between two defenders, lays it in. steph had 12 in the first. second quarter drives and one, he had 12 of 16 in the first half. kevin durant, 23 points on 9 of 11 shooting. he throws it down. four seconds left in the half. steph from half court, nothing but net. 51 feet. 72-51 at the half. are you kidding me?
