call it partly cloudy, 60s and 70s, above average today. we'll warm it up for the second half of the weekend, brighten it up. thanks very much, lisa. we begin with developing news this morning out of portland, oregon. police looking for a gunman who opened fire on a protester during an anti-president-elect trump demonstration. the male victim is expected to recover. about 1,000 people participated in the march in portland, the city with the most civil unrest and violence. police fired a flash grenade into the crowd and instituted a curfew. moralli more rallied are planned for today. abc 7 news was along, as they took over the busy street with a police escort. monica shared video, marching earlier down market street. the protest was peaceful. erin greene shared this video in santa cruz. uc students marched chanting "not my president." a united airlines president is being praised this morning for stepping in to prevent a brewing fight among passengers about politics. the flight landed safely without further problems, after the pilot took charge. sergio quintana has details. >> hthis is not the announcemen you usually hear. >> people, we have the common decency to respect each other's decisions, and to get along on this three hour flight. >> the man told me by phone that it came an argument with two passengers. >> he said at least i get to keep my guns, and she told he him how can you say that to a brown person. she was african-american. >> they were arguing about the election. a spokesman said flight attendants separated them. this is the latest in the string of outbursts since tuesday. in pittsburgh, neighbors snapped a picture of this banner, including the "n" word, violating an ordinance with large banners, and ordering the resident to remove it. >> i think it is natural to see eruptions of these feelings here and there across time. but the real question is the degree to which it will be sustained. their leaders take an important role. >> he praised the pilot forehandling the incident on the plane. >> if anybody has a problem with this, it is going to, the rant or rave there is another flight tomorrow. you're not going to be on this one. i hope that's clear. >> here here! >> that flight continued without incident. sergio quintana. we have new details on this video, which was widely circulated on social media yesterday. it shows a woman ranting and using hateful language. she was having a conversation in assyrian on her cell phone. they said the woman is living with mental illness and they're concerned for her safety. art says this will not be top rated. be decent to each other. in oakland, last night's protests remained peaceful. tweeting these photos showing heavy police precedencsence. hillary clinton made her first public appearance and came bearing gifts for staffer whose tried to get her elected. >> hillary clinton hosted a staff only event in brooklyn. she thanked each person, and handed them one of 1,200 roses that were sent to her home today. clinton also hosted a conference call with volunteers, staffers and donors to ask them to keep fighting for what they believe in. >> this is a tough time for our country. i think we're seen how people have been reacting to the events of this election and i know that we've got to be reaching out to each other to keep it clear in our own minds that what we was so important. >> just one day after meeting with president obama, donald trump confirmed to "60 minutes" he might agree to the president's request to not tamper with obama care. >> are you going to make sure that people with pre-conditions are still covered? >> yes, because it happens to be one of the strongest assets. >> you're going keep it? >> also with the children living with their parents for an extended period. >> you're going to keep that. >> very much try to keep it. >> if it is not amended, it will be repealed and replaced. oma dates. mr. trump has named vice president elect mike pence, replacing chris christie. three of donald trump's children and peter thiel will be on that team. be sure to download the be abc 7 news app to stay on top of the transition into the white house, enable push alerts and get updates as they happen. developing news out of afghanistan, a suicide bomber has killed four people. it happened at bagram airport. military officials have not said what nationality the deceased are. the taliban has claimed responsibility. it is the largest installation in afghanistan. back hope in vallejo this morning, investigators say a gunman shot a man in his 20s. the victim crashed his vehicle, but expected to survive. eastbound lanes of i-80 were closed through the evening commute. the gunman is still on the loose this morning. the drunk driver that killed a pedestrian in san jose and smashed into an abc 7 news van talked to abc 7 news from jail. doug andreen died as he left city hall thursday night. abc 7 news reporter, leslie brinkley, has the story. >> in an instant, doug andreen was killed crossings the street. this white truck ran the light late yesterday afternoon, hit it would go cars and pushing andreen's body under abc 7's new van. the photographer and reporter were both treated and released at the hospital. grief counselors will on hand at city hall, where he worked for ten years as an accountant in the public works department. he lived nearby in this apartment complex with his beloved cat. his family and friends told me he spent a lot of time at the san jose animal care center where they'll direct donations to help rescue cats there. 41-year-old ricard go gomez talked to us about it. >> i'm sorry. i drank a couple of beers and i want thinking. >> he says he has two previous dui arrests. >> if i could take everything back, i should have never -- i should have never drank. >> andreen lost everything. in san jose, i'm leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. happening now, after driving in a san francisco, you probably want to avoid van nes avenue. it is designed to make the street safer, but now, it is just causing a lot of delays. abc 7 katie utehs explains. >> what does an uber driver wish for. >> less cars. >> instead, the san francisco municipal transportation agency will be reducing banes avenue to two lanes. eventually center lane also be designated bus only. >> the buses get in the way, especially if they don't pull all the way in, if they have their tail hanging out. that's problematic to get around. >> the renderings show what the project will look like when completed. it is similar to the muni trains on 3 street and save about 15 minutes. left turns will be removed at all about three intersections. >> i just feel it will cause way too much traffic. people already drive crazy in the city. i feel it will be total chaos. >> one of the leading causes of collisions are left turns, and by eliminating some of the left turns, we're making the city safer. >> sewer lines, more than 150 years old will be replaced while the roadway is torn up. >> they're old and time to update them. this project allows us to fix the core ridor. >> it will cost around $16 million and take three years. in san francisco, katie utehs, abc 7. >> traffic, we love it in san francisco. nice weekend coming up? know it. so slow. abc 7 alexis smith and sky 7 conducted a time challenge during one morning commute. let's see what lane won. fast track or cash? >> reporter: it is a mind numbing crawl to get to the bay bridge in the morning. bumper to bumper, drivers weave in and out of traffic. >> it can take up to an hour. >> always cutting eechl other off. it is getting worst. the fast track is backed up worst than the cash lane. >> what's really happening. i got in sky 7 from above. all the lanes take fast track. some accept cash, and sometimes the cash lanes seem shorter. which are really faster. we did a comparison and rigged two-cars with cameras so we could track them. we started from powell street and see how long it takes. >> they both left at the same time. the blue 7s goi is going throug cash lane. minutes in, so far it looks like cash is moving a little faster. what's keeping the red 7, the fast track behind. it had to cross over the only lanes in the center. he is trying to get over. oh, the cash car lead doesn't last long. it looks like we've got the fast track car, the red 7, actually catching up and just passing the blue. the cash car. nearly 35 minutes into our commute, traffic really slows down. it is the drivers in the cash lanes creating the problem. we've seen car after car. weave the cash lanes and cutting off the fast track. so he's getting cut you have because these guys are trying to get into the fast track. so it is affecting the cash driver, too. by the time the challenge is over, the fast track is just about five minutes faster than the cash lane. a time savings, but maybe not as much as you think. >> that's really consistent what we've found. >> john goodwin is with the transportation commission. >> evidently some folks believe their time is more valuable than others. >> he says those drivers who cut over at the last minute play a big part. >> there is no advantage as we call them the dive bombers. >> the mtc said it has tried to prevent it by installing flexible ply lolons. they would go a long way, but the commission is looking at ways to eliminate the cash option from the bridge to speed things up. the gold den gate bridge stopped taking cash flow, since then, it has improved. there is no set date for when the bay bridge might stop taking cash. >> there are a number of things that we need to do because the traffic volumes are so much greater on the bay bridge. >> in the meantime, drivers are looking for relief, and leaving earlier won't help them. the mtc says the busiest time is now between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. in sky 7, port delays. you notice the green on the screen. this is really representing upper elevation, moisture, but at the lower levels, we're looking at one mile visibility, half moon bay, airport delays of about 40 minutes, snaterring of light showers and closer inspection into parts of marin county, looking at the higher elevations with mist and drizzle. a pretty picture, isn't it, from the east bay hills camera, a little fog out there. 61 in the city. 60 in san jose, 53 in gilroy. so a few delays here, but the clouds will thin out for a pretty nice afternoon. concord, 60, livermore at 59. milder with the frontal boundary with the attraction cloud cover, while you were sleeping. so that allowed for the warmer overnight lows. but we will be looking at highs today in a more narrow range. that usually happens in november. and this is of course santa cruz. it will be beautiful here today in the low 70s. so fog at the coast this morning, partly cloudy this afternoon and more sunshine for next week. but that doesn't include the entire week. we do have some changes to track. an hour by hour, you'll notice this morning that the cloud cover begins to thin out. the north bay, east bay and by about 3:00 in the afternoon, we are partly cloudy, so it will be sunnier than it was yesterday. tomorrow, few degrees warmer, start out with more sun, high pressure build anything from the south, and as it does that, all he see the 60s and 7 monday. we've got a clear sky for sunday night. the actual full moon is in the morning, but we will be looking at that bigger than normal moon, because it is closest to the earth since 1948. it appears 7% larger than the average full moon. 16% brighter. it will be foggy at the coast, but then gets a good viewing by tomorrow, say 4:30, 5:00 p.m. when the moon comes up. looking at clouds increasing tuesday. chance of shower. look what happens. slips up through sacramento, and cloud cover. that's one opportunity. but for today, it is a little bit of a mix. some clouds, sun, low 70s, santa clara, south bay, palo alto, the city, a mild 66. how about 69, santa rosa and over in berkeley, 6 6 for you. 71 in fremont and hayward, 70. san ramon and san jose and santa clara for operation 7 save a life. the event kicked off this year with a program hosted by abc 7 live news desk jessica castro. >> nearly half of the nation's fire deaths occur in night. warmer weather and a little rain to talk about coming up. happening today, sting will be on stage in paris. the site of last year's deadly isis attack. it will be the first concert since three islamic state militants stormed in killing 89 people one year ago tomorrow. three separate attacks in paris, sting says it will be a way to remember and honor those who lost their lives in the november 13th attacks. in florida, another response to a terrorist attack. come out with pride festival will be held, where a gunman killed 49 people in june. a benefit concert will be held for the victims of the attack at the pulse nightclub. earlier this month, the city of orlando bought pulse for over $2 million. city officials plan to turn the site into a memorial to honor the memories of the victims. the election has some people speaking out with their wallets unhappy with the outcome. jonathan bloom explains what they're doing about it. >> reporter: volunteers clearing out the clinton campaign local headquarte headquarters. >> i'm vasad, but what can we d next. so i've started to donate to planned parenthood and i'm going to sign up to volunteer in schools in san francisco. >> it is a sentiment echoed by these volunteers. the san francisco children's art center isn't the only place they're hoping lend a hand. >> i would volunteer for like planned parenthood, because i think it is like such an important organization. >> reporter: planned parenthood has seen an out pouring support. >> what made you want to do that. >> women's health, they're under attack. >> reporter: donations are up and web traffic it through the roof. other charities have seized the opportunity, asking for donations in the wake of the election. but one group, barely needed to ask. >> tuesday night, i couldn't sleep. wednesday morning, i was laying in bed, i couldn't stand it any longer. i woke up, i went online and a made a donation to the aclu. >> the acla says it received over $1 million in donations, the singlest fundraising in its history, crashing the website. why them? >> because they protect our constitution. it is their main goal. that's what is most in peril with the president-elect. >> also expressing the safety pin, which became huge after the brexit vote. there are other symbols that are no so subtle. >> this patriotic t-shirt was the top sefg items, so were logo items, and this pocket constitution. an email sent out said they sold more than $15,000 in merchandise for folks looking to make a statement. >> putting word out that the government is on notice and we'll be watching. >> in san francisco, john tan bloom, abc 7 news. in this morning, president obama reminding us that the military melks and veterans serve as an example of what the nation tries to be everyday. in his weekly radio address, the president recognized the service and sacrifice of our nation's military and called it the most single diverse institution in the country. >> the veterans don't always go around telling stories of their heroism, so it is up to us to ask, tell those stories for them and the values for which they were prepared to give theirs. >> president obama added we must acknowledge we can never serve our military and veterans the same way they serve us. happening today, special dedication in pleasanton, a memorial to the 21 area res dents dents who died serving their country. a lifestyle bronze statue of a soldier kneeling in respect to fallen comrades. it is at pioneer cemetery. ♪ >> the south bay started honoring its veterans early and it became an early thanksgiving for more than 500 veterans. abc 7 news reporter, david lieuy introduces us to one grateful vet. >> july 23rd, was homeless. >> a 12 year old army vet, holding keys to this apartment. he'll move in next week. >> this is just the beginning. now the real journey begins. staying focused, going to school, continue working. >> the 500th homeless vet to get housing, one year after san jose, "all the way home." some of the landlords are vets themselves. >> i'm doing this because i am my brother's keeper and a member of the armed forces. it is something i have the opportunity, and i've been bless dollars. why not share that blessing. >> he has rented this to a vet. >> the number 510 is an impress is figure, there are still more than 6,000 people homeless, who are not veterans living in santa clara county. >> the mayor believes the successf housing vets will lead to a wider program. while 510 have been placed, the challenge isn't over. >> every month there are more being pushed out on the street because of high housing costs. this will be an effort that we have to continue to pursue. >> even the president of the board of supervisors has rented out a room to the vets. >> you rent to a veteran, you get rent. that room would have been sitting empty. there are so many people that have four or five bedroom houses here in the suburbs, san jose and if. o. we are looking at improving conditions. hour by hour here, since the early morning hours, and from the sutro tower camera, you can see some midlevel clouds and low 60s in san francisco. 60 in san jose, pretty nice morning for you. 57 in gilroy bay. look how the golden gate is improving. it was socked in here all morning long. looking at some sunshine over into marin county, 57, santa rosa. upper elevations, mounts tam a little misty with the cloud cover, 60 by the delta and the diablo range looking at clouds. within concord and livermore, 60. cloud cover, we were warmer than we were yesterday at this time, so starting out with a higher dew point so it feels a little muggy to your skin with 5 degrees warmer than yesterday from the coast, to concord. still some delays at sfo, but we'll look for the thinning cloud cover to be the rule of the day today. the fog will be cleared at the coast and then partly cloudy this afternoon. cooler days arriving by the end of the week, but in between now and then, we have a weak frontal band to track for you. sod, it is about the early morning cloud cover, breaking out into afternoon sunshine, so it should be a nice day today, slightly above average. and we will be looking at the trend for more sunshine and more 70s in livermore. here comes the front. it drops numbers, and then we see more 60s, more in line what we should see for this time of year. 68, warm in southern california, with a few clouds. 82. we're going to be looking at increasing clouds in the north bay for tuesday, and then by tuesday night, it looks like marin, luxury two-bedroom condo with killer views. last september, the dodsons and some 50 other homeowners asked city assessor carmen chu to lower their property taxes because the highrise had sunk 16 inches and tilted two inches. it was the dodsons unit where we rolled this golf ball toward the direction the building is leaning. the dodsons paid $2.1 million for their condo three years ago. they told the assessor the value they believe is now around $400,000. >> some people put zero, put people put a dollar. if you're unable to sell something, it is hard to believe it has any value at the time. >> they're yet to hear from the assessors office. currently, two homeowner lawsuits are pending against the developers. the dodsons are considering their own legal action. supervisor aaron peskin has held hearings, which he says reveals the building department knew about the unexpected settling problems, even before units were sold. but gave developers the green light any way. because of that, the dodsons have decided to withhold paying their property taxes to the city. >> it is like being mugged. if two people mugged you, in this case the millennium partners and the city, i'm not
