vigil last night, hoping ms. flo, lonnie rivera spoke to those who knew her. ♪ >> reporter: a community gathering through song, prayer and candles. church members, altogether honoring an 88-year-old woman known as miss flo. >> we are very devout christian family and prayer and singing is a big part of it. >> reporter: earlier this week, the elderly woman was severely beater in her home. >> she was beaten beyond recognition, to the point where i first looked upon her, i had to question if that was really her. >> reporter: but in another hospital visit, her nephew witnessed remarkable progress. >> she responded to our voices. both of her eyes were opened. >> reporter: how did she respond? >> she smiled, and one of my cousins told her, i was there, and she muttered, i know. >> she's a strong woman. her mind is like, her mind is sharp. i mean, she is a young 88. >> reporter: sheriff's detectives arrested zachary cuen in connection with the crime and pursuing other leads. there were prayer requests for the suspect. >> we have not together prayed for the perpetrator. >> reporter: as for miss flo family and friends, they're hope fulfill she'll pul threw. her spirit is strong and vibrant. in san jose, lonnie rivera, abc 7 news. you're looking at an a.m. a track train after a man was seen with a gun. 200 people got off the train at the chatsworth station. the man is in custody, after sheriff's deputies deployed teargas. it was heading to san diego. we know the identity of a mountain view man killed on highway 101 yesterday afternoon. the chp said a pro jeck till came through his windshield and hit him in the neck. katie marzullo has details. >> reporter: this is the object the chb believes came flying through the windshield, killing the driver. >> while searching the vehicle, the officers found the brass, sort of like a material, look a nut, about the size of a baseball. >> reporter: 82-year-old lewis schaeffer was driving north through palo alto, when a large projectile hit him in the neck. his van went off the highway, before coming to a stop. other drivers pulled over and tried to help him, but it was too late. first responders pronounced him dead at the scene. investigators are asking witnesses to come forward, hopefully, they can shed more light on exactly what happened. >> to see, you know, maybe this fell off another vehicle, or did this come off from, you know, maybe kicked off, somebody's tires as they were driving by. >> reporter: an unusual and terrible accident that cost an innocent driver his life. >> tragic. nothing he could have done to avoid it. >> reporter: two lanes were closed for two hours. in redwood city, katie marzullo, abc 7 news. a suspected carjacker ran from the law in berkeley yesterday afternoon. a few minutes later, the suv hit a car and then a house on sixth street. a man ran away from the vehicle. the officers captured him as he ran toward a moving train. an officer was hurt, while arresting the suspect. and you can see on this map where a baby was shot in his mother's arms in richmond. yesterday morning, shooting broke out at second street and bissell avenue, more than two blocks away. the baby is expected to recover after being shot in the leg. $66 million civil claim has been filed against the city of oakland on behalf of a young woman who has said she has had sex with bay area police officers when she was under age. attorneys pamela price filed the notice. sergio quintana has the story. >> reporter: price and bonner filed a $66 million civil claim against the city of oakland, something they announced was in the works earlier this week. >> she is entitled, certainly to compensation from each one of the jurisdictions, where officers have violated the law and violated her civil rights. >> reporter: a spokesman said they cannot comment on pending legal actions. oakland mayor did not comment. 12 police officers are named in the multi-million civil claim, including former police chief, shawn went. they accused him of failing to take action when he learned what his officers were doing. her attorneys are also planning to file claims against other police agencies with officers connected to the case. >> we have at least five areas that have been implicated. >> reporter: five others are expect today be charged later. former oakland police sergeant is accused of failing to report child abuse, which is a misdemeanor. former livermore police officer, daniel black, was also charged. he is accused of participating in prostitution, lewd conduct and providing alcohol to a minor. they will be in court october 1st for a first appearance. abc 7 news. >> we're getting our first look at a gun that santa clara sheriff's deputies said was pointed at them before being shot he held this 38 caliber inside his home in saratoga on monday night. someone called 911, asking deputies to see if the man was okay. they knocked on the door and called him on the phone several times, before forcing their way into the house. police are ask fog your help to find this man who robbed someone's phone. it happened around 2:00 wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of safe way on west hamilton avenue. police say he approached the victim, who was sitting in a car, talking on their phone. reached in, and grabbed it. the suspect was last seen in this mazda r 8. police believe he was involved in prior thefts at the safe way store. the victim was not hurt. this morning, there is a warning for parents in the east bay, scammers are claiming their children have been abducted and hurt in hopes of getting ransom money. two families at clear month middle school have received the phone calls, and in both cases, the parents called the school and determined their kids were safe. the fbi calls it a virtual kidnapping attempt. >> this grandparent received a call saying their child was at the school had been injured, had broken their nose and needed medical treatment and needed money for it. >> the fbi says parents who get that phone call should hang up immediately and call the school to check on their child. a small plane made an emergency landing yesterday afternoon. federal investigators say the pilot reported engine failure around 2:30. sky 7 was overhead after the pilot safely landed inside the ravens wood open space preserve. two people on board were not hurt. happening today, thousands of people across the state volunteer their time to clean up beaches. it's all part of the 32nd annual california coastal clean up day. this is video from last year's clean up. the event draws people to more than 800 locations statewide. clean up usually collects more than 1 million pounds of trash of state waterways. it will be a nice day for that, and the further you go east and inland, it is going to got hot. >> yes, not over yet. we'll see more summer like temperatures. right now, as we look outside, you can see the fog from the camera. developing news out of texas this morning. two police officers recovering after being shot last night while responding to a possible suicide in fort worth. police say when the officer arrived at the home, they found a man dead in a bedroom with gunshot wounds to the head. they went to talk to a potential witness outside when someone from inside started firing at them. one officer was shot several times. the other was hit once. both, expected to survive. the gunman died, but unclear if police gunfire killed him or if it was self-inflicted. more developing news. this time in pennsylvania, where seven people were shot, including two police officers, after an ambush style attack that led to a fatal shootout in west philadelphia. the civilian and gunman died. a sergeant was sitting in a car when a suspect ambushed her. she was shot eight times. 9 the gunman ran and into a car, using a woman as a human shield. officers chased him down an alley and shot and killed him. the two officers and three other people are expected to survive. she doesn't want guns. take there. let's see what happens to her. >> there was a new controversy in the race for president. you just heard donald trump suggesting at a florida rally last night that hillary clinton's armed guards should disarm. he made that suggestion while criticizing his opponent for her stance on gun control. the comments come after trump reversed his position yesterday on president obama's birthplace. abc news reporter, mary bruce, has the story. >> reporter: after championing the conspiracy theory for five years, donald trump is finally admitting what has been true all along. >> president barack obama was born in the united states, period. >> a reversal, but no regret, and no questions. >> mr. trump, are you going to apologize to the president? >> while trump tries to close the birther book, clinton is saying not so fast. >> his campaign was founded on this outrageous lie. there is no erasing it in history. >> clinton is trying to turn the tables after her battle of pneumonia and she has back-up. >> a candidate isn't going to change when they get in office, and there is no way to hide who they really are. money to find out if their sinking homes are safe. the homeowners association has hired seismic and soil consultants to dig deeper. drilling and other tests will start in two weeks. the millennium is 75, and we'll see temperatures there in the mid 70s. but you get out over the east bay hills, east of the tunnel, and boy, 90s arrive today. look, we still have a good deal of fog right over the bay. with that, some low visibility. quarter mile visibility up in santa rosa, and you've got nine miles in oakland. it is beginning to lift, but the reason for that fog is that higher pressure pushing down on the atmosphere, the marine layer becomes suppressed and it gets pretty gray in the city and then we'll see a lot of sunshine revealed today. 59 in oakland, good morning, san jose, 60 all morning long. 54 at the coast. from this vantage point, even from the east bay hills camera, you can see the fog. it is sunny in walnut creek. the temperatures coming up about six or seven degrees. 51 in santa rosa, nap a. heating up inland this weekend, mild to warm at the coast. partly sunny conditions today, and very cool. in fact, will be breezy, but sharply cooler on tuesday and wednesday, as the seasons change on thursday. and it will very much feel like autumn. so we will look for that large temperature spread today, and as the temperatures rise, the air quality decreases, so our inland east bay, the worst air quality, spare the air alert today, and likely, one will be held tomorrow. as the air quality in the south bay will also take a hit. so looking at 1:00 today, we still have patchy fog here from half moon bay, but we'll get sunshine, and with the overnight temperatures dropping off into the 50s, you'll notice by 5:00 tomorrow, fog is back into oak land. but we see full sunshine for your sunday and as a result, quicker warming. today, up in sonoma, a warm afternoon. 1:00, 83 degrees for the go pro grand prix. afternoon highs in the upper 80s, and we'll look for temperatures in santa cruz, very comfortable. 77 this afternoon. 80 tomorrow, by monday, still very beachy for some nice readings there, where the fog will be in play locally at our beaches. so we are really going to get set to sweat tomorrow, with temperatures near 100 degrees. notice, all the reds, even in the upper 80s by heyward, and then by monday, still very warm here, mid 70s in oakland, but by tuesday, looking at the heat really retreating and a nice afternoon, really much, for everyone, looking past the next few days as summer winds down by wednesday. the last day of summer. 92 for the high in concord, 82 in fremont. temperatures around the bay, six to seven degrees above average. but tomorrow, the hottest day of the next seven, triple digits arrive. and changes monday, with a bit more fog. sea breeze, but numbers get back towards normal and autumn arriving on thursday, and breezy and mild by the end of the week. things change. check the news app for all of pthe live cameras, morning. >> hey, good morning. hi, everyone. still a good deal of clouds over the bay. sunny inland and a live look outside from the golden gate bridge. you can see the temperatures are ranging from the low 50s to about 60 in san jose. speaking of san jose, look how foggy it is here. it won't last long, though. we'll begin to see partly sunny sk skies. it will warm up quickly. you can see in the distance, above the green layer, we're clear. that's where we'll have the off shore flow to heat up quickly and on shore flow will keep the numbers in the low 60s. wide temperature spread today. a spare the air alert, and last gasp of summer. >> lisa, thank you. new this morning, with congress back in session, president obama is calling on congress to do their jobs. in his weekly address, the president said he wants them to focus on funds the fight against zika and helping flood victims in louisiana. he said solving these problems is within our reach. >> we just need a congress that works as hard as you do. at the very least, we should expect they should do their jobs and protect us from disease, help us recover from disaster, keep the supreme court above politics, and help our businesses grow and hire. >> tonight, president obama will make a speech at the annual legislative conference phoenix wards dinner in washington, d.c., and michelle obama will also be there. the house financial services committee has launched its own investigation into wells fargo, where employees opened millions of fake accounts. the committee will call on wells fargo ceo john stump to testify later this month. they've requested documents related to the sales tactics. they've issued subpoenas to the bank as part of an investigation. stump will answer to a hearing on tuesday. happening today in the national aids memorial in san francisco, 25 years of remembrance, healing and hope for the special ceremony. state senator, mark leno and san francisco supervisor scott wiener will be there. they will pay tribute to loved ones lost to hiv/aids. it starts at 11:00 this morning at the memorial in golden gate park. well, camping in style is about to reach a whole new level at one state park in the bay area. a deluxe camping upgrade is planned for angel island. >> you do not get a better view of the bay from right here at angel island. >> reporter: leading a tour, a job she loves. >> it is not a job. it is an adventure. i love meeting all the people that come out here. >> a place many locals and tourists have not seen and that's a problem. >> not everyone knows who we are, but we to sleep four to eight people will be built on east side of the island near the immigration station. >> there is quite a few folks for whom camping is a barrier, you know, that could clue not having the equipment. >> reporter: no stove or running water, but technology, yes. gorgeous views and rustic charm. what more could you want. let's not get carried away. we're told every cabin will have a billion dollarsen water quality projects over the next decade, including $415 million for the lake tahoe restoration act. it now goes to the house. reggie jackson was at an oakland skill. abc 7 eric thomas, has details of a new venture that could fast track students toward college. >> reporter: they called him mr. october, because of his post season heroics of the plate. but on this friday in september, reggie jackson was talking about the importance of science and technology, education to students of color. >> as a minority, you do not get a fair opportunity. you do not get a fair shake. >> reporter: but sometimes, you do get a little star power. money from silicon valley to help give these gids a nudge along the way. >> technology, because there is such a significant lack of any kind of minority population in technology. >> it's true that african-americans and latinos make up less than 5% at the major tech companies. this initiative hopes to change that. it is a joint venture between sap, the oakland unified school district and berkeley city college. the goal, get more kids of color involved. that's in the new but this is. they'll be allowed to take credits at berkeley at no cost. after they graduate, they have two years to complete their associate's degree, for free. >> we're hoping they could get let's say at least a couple of semesters worth of college credit so they have a real edge. >> they also become our employee base later, so it is a virtual cycle for all. >> i want people to know my name what, i did. >> i want to make sure america leads us, continues prosperity. in oakland, eric thomas, abc 7 news. >> abc 7 was on howard street yesterday, being shut down for a tech conference, oracle opens tomorrow. as a result, howard between third and fourth will remain closed until next saturday. hundreds of people are weekend's surplus department action up in sacramento, housing all of the property seized by law enforcement agencies, horse saddl saddles, car parts, after being retired or seized in busts. the auctions bring in about $100,000, which is used to keep the surplus department going. it holds five public auctions each year. thousands of fans are getting ready for beyonce's concert tonight. her second stop of her formation tour in santa clara at levi stadium. she was also there in may. if you don't want to deal with the traffic, can see the fog over the bay and looking at visibility just a half mile in napa. about a mile up in santa rosa. the coast, five miles and we're beginning to see sunshine, though, break out around the bay. so from our roof camera, you can see the flag blowing throughout the day today, breezy, from san francisco to the coast, 60 in san jose, 57 in gilroy. 58 in oakland. you can see how sunny it is. the winds are going to be off shore, and the upper levels of the atmosphere and that's will ai aid in the warmup today. livermore at 58 degrees. you can see the fog there. the depth is about 1,000 feet, and it is compressing and that's because higher pressure building into the bay area allowing for that to happen before it clears, almost altogether. heating up this weekend, mild to warm at the coast. sharply cooler as we get to fall, which arrives on thursday. but even by tuesday, you'll begin to feel much cooler in the inland east bay and that's where today, we have the worst air quality. spare the air alert today. and then tomorrow, the santa clara valley, looking like you'll have the poor air quality. 1:00 this afternoon, i've stopped the animation, and you notice, we still have some coast. statewide, 80 in los angeles, if you're heading to certificate ar -- seirra neff aftvada, 91 in jose, 16 degrees above average for napa. going close to 100 degrees. san jose, should be about 80. yesterday, you were at 80. today, 87. 91 tomorrow. and then after monday, things get more comfortable here. 86 in santa clara. look for 83, peninsula, low 80s for red city. we'll look for temperatures in the city to be in the upper 60s. 70 in south san francisco, upper 80s in sonoma. a warm one, 81 by the water, east bay, newark, checking in at 80, and this afternoon, temperatures climbing as much as seven degrees from livermore to pleasant pleasanton. looking at numbers today in the 90s inland. so that's a big warmup. even hotter tomorrow. and inland heat stays with us through monday. wednesday, dipping below normal. and thursday, it is autumn, and less fog this time of year in autumn. it is probably will stay dry for the next two weeks. i'm going to go out on a limb and
