Reporter it is more than a Million People lining the Golden State Warriors victory route, waiting hours to see their favorite players up close, and in some cases face to face. The pull of the crowd, too tempting for Draymond Green, who hopped off his bus and mingled. Draymond is being draymond. Hes just a crowd pleaser. Like the heart and soul of the warriors. Reporter but the fans deserve credit too. Thank you. Theyre amazing. Not much traffic heading back into San Francisco tonight, an improvement from a few hours ago as drivers left oakland after the warriors parade. B. A. R. T. Was absolutely packed, though. The agency added 40 trains in anticipation. 203,000 riders jumped on the trains hours before the dubs parade and when the day was over, thousands made a bee line for the station. Lots of people everywhere, all over. Couldnt get through. Hard to move around. Now were at a stand fill. It is crazy and very hectic and it is really hot in here. But it is fun. 28 more riders rode b. A. R. T. Than a typical commute day. Warriors owners joe lake and peter gruber had everything to do with turning the team into a champion. And they did another thing the parade. Same time next year, sealed. Give it up for joe lake and peter gruber, they picked up the tab for today. You also heard peter say theyll be back for another parade next year, the third championship since guber and lake took over, would be a fitting accomplishment for a team known for their threes. Thats true. Security was tight at todays parade. Oakland police and partners made sure there were no threats to the team and the fans. Went very smoothly. Thomas was in the crowd at Lakeside Drive and 19th street in oakland today. Eric, all went well. Ill tell you how smoothly it wept, 1. 5 million visitors, only three arrests made, one for assaulting a police officer, two for public intoxication. There were 105 calls from medical assistance from the firefighters and paramedics who were there, most of that heat related, none of it serious. So this was a pretty smooth running event for the 2017 nba champs. You didnt have to be a battle hardened basketball fan to enjoy todays parade. Fans of all ages turned out to have a good time. I just wanted to see my favorite players come out to celebrate this whole entire community. Reporter and celebrate they did, and it was the job of Oakland Police and their partners to make sure that playepla players can visit with fans and the fans could safely watch the heroes. The chief says it worked. Very great. Excellent. Everybody is in a celebration, theyre having a great time, the officers are well prepared and we want them to have a good time with the crowd as well. Reporter there were cops on foot, on motorcycles, even cops in water craft making sure that nothing in lake merit could pose a threat. This fan thought they did a good job. I thought everything was set up right. I thought we had enough security, the people, everybody behaved themselves. Reporter even when star guard steph curry came through, surrounded by security, people were enthusiastic but respectful, and the star told me that he and his teammates appreciate it. It took everybody. Thats what basketball is all about, thats why we celebrate the way we do. Reporter the last time the warriors celebrated like this was after they won the championship in 2015. The cost of Police Protection and cleanup was more than 240,000, this time, it wont cost the city a thing. We just like to say this parade, this whole day, all the cost, every dollar, is on us. Today a San Francisco jury found a man guilty of killing his girlfriend and trying to dispose of her body inside a suitcase. The case drew widespread attention seven years ago when the body of pearla louis was found floating in a suitcase in San Francisco bay. Her body was badly beaten. Police arrested her boyfriend, 55yearold lee bell. Today, bell was found guilty of first degree murder. The victims daughter hopes the case gives people the courage to get out of abusive relationships. Someone will say, you know, enough is enough, time for me to get out of this situation, let me reach out for resources, let me speak to people and let them know what im going through and not suffer in silence. Bell will be sentenced at a later date. New at 6 00, a fire forced about 40 people out of their homes in the north bay. Started just after 2 30 afternoon on Austin Avenue in santa rosa in the south park neighborhood. Six units of the apartment complex burned and 12 units are without power now. This is video that was posted on the santa rosa firefighters twitter account. The red cross is helping out those evacuees. California seasonal rain and snow may be triggering more earthquakes. Thats according to a new study published today ought of uc berkeley. The findings suggest the winter snow and rain act as weights on the states mountains, pressing down on both the sierra and the coastal ranges. When those weights are lifted, and the state drys out, the earths crust rebounds, triggering increased fault movement. You can find the full study in this months edition of the journal science. High of 88 96 expected in concord tomorrow. Average high in concord this time of year is 83. Well see 100 degrees in concord on saturday, up to 104 on sunday, fathers day. Some locations may see 106, 108 on fathers day. Temperatures drop a couple of degrees on monday, and then back up to 100 or above on tuesday, wednesday. So seven days, it will be really hot in our inland areas and, of course, as i mentioned, a chance of elevated fire concern. You splay noticed this giant hole in the ground where the newest part of San Franciscos [ inhales, exhales ] [ announcer ] cigarettes are not just dangerous when theyre smoked. [ rat squeaking ] theyre dangerous long after. Cigarette butts are toxic. They release chemicals that poison our water. And harm wildlife. And millions. Are polluting our environment. [ sniffing ] [ seagulls squawking ] there is something adorable at the oakland zoo. Three black bear cubs and mom will be educational ambassadors at the zoos upcoming trail xzibexhibit. It almost didnt happen. Officials determined the cubs hadnt been weaned off their mom and decided to send all four to the oakland zoo. The Animal Rights group Farm Sanctuary says it rescued six pigs from a small island in the sacramento san joaquin delta. That was tuesday. The pigs had been left to forage there four years ago. Later, a number of boaters took to feeding them. Some started a Facebook Page called the friends of the pig on the delta. One stockton man who says he owns the pigs says the pigs were not rescued, they were stolen. My pets, i should be able to do with them as i please. They seem to be well fed, they seem to be in good health. We tried to take care of them. Farm sanctuary says the pigs were not in good health and were being mistreated. The group says during the winters, the pigs would starve and during the summer people were riding them, feeding them beer and treating them horribly. Video of a confrontation at a Sacramento County Convenience Store is going viral. Witnesses say it started when a man and a woman tried to walk out of the Citrus Heights store with snacks that they didnt pay for. Then the hot cheatos went flying. Meanwhile, a customer sitting outside in her car captured this video on her cell phone. Another woman went to grab the phone. But she got a jolt right there from the customers taser. Reporter the former apple engineer says for the last ten years shes been verbally and physically abused by her estranged husband, a ceo of a Silicon Valley startup. Nobody deserves to go through this and live their life in fear. There is no reason to. Reporter she gave us pictures of bruises and audio recordings of him yelling and threatening her. Gattani was charged with felony assault but a deal was struck, pleading no contest to felony accessory and sentenced to six months in county jail, in which five of the months he would serve by doing Community Service. He is getting credit for the time he served so he really will only serve 13 days. I was really hoping for Something Better to happen. I am disappointed that she is not satisfied with the terms of the disposition or the way in which her case was handled. But i am confident that we reached the right outcome. The punishment should be according to that. It should not be less than that. And i want justice for her. Open Golf Tournament in wisconsin today. Authorities say the pilot was taken to the hospital by helicopter. He was the only person aboard the blimp. The blimp on fire and smoking went down in an open field. About half a mile from the erin hills golf course. The company that owns the blimp says there was a catastrophic failure of the airships envelope or outer skin. He goes, no, it is, it is on fire. I pulled over to the side of the road real quick. A bit of fire on it, it hit the ground, there was like three fireballs and you could hear the explosion. The u. S. Open Officials Say that the blimp was not affiliated with the usga or the open itself. The tournament, one of golfs four majors, got under way today. Great white sharks are returning in big numbers to the Southern California coast, but shark experts are worried that some people are creating dangerous conditions for those sharks just to capture them on camera. Theyre doing it by chumming the water or throwing in fish bait to attract the sharks to the shore. One expert says whether it is chumming or other tactics to draw in sharks, the real danger is it can change their behavior. Chumming or trying to bait the sharks in puts other people at risk because it changes the sharks behavior. It puts them in a feeding mode had they may not be in a feeding mode. When they turn around and leave, those sharks are still in a feeding mode. Chumming is not illegal, but it is typically done far off shore. Officials say boaters could be cited for throwing material like bait into the water so close to the beach. Next at 6 00, an incredible view tonight of a massive hole in the middle of San Francisco. And the city has big plans for what will go there, and the money they hope will come pouring out of it. Reporter the view shows how workers have moved Howard Street on to what used to be the sidewalk as they make room for a Massive Underground convention space, you can already see the beginnings of the new Howard Street that will be build like a bridge over top. Biggest challenge we have is the shows are still going on. Well get 30,000, 40,000 people showing up for the show while this is going on. Reporter other bigger conventions have gone on elsewhere, leafing inleaving a e in the pockets. Many people think were closed because moscone is closed and the streets are closed. This whole year is slower than usual. It has to do with Convention Center for sure. The giant scope of this project makes it difficult all by itself. But what is even more challenging is that there is a tight deadline to finish and it is one that cant be moved. There is a show coming that is going to happen september 7th. I cant miss the date. So there is a lot of pressure. Com well, while the warriors were winning their championship, an east Bay Elementary School was going for a major title of its own. Hundreds of kids trying to set the Guinness World record for square dancing, but did they get it . They needed help from 7 on your sides Michael Finney who did a little dosidoing of his own. I did, indeed. This was a huge undertaking. Every student participated. The music teacher wrote the music. Pe teachers designed the dance. They met strict requirements from guinness, but then never heard back. So did they set a record or not . They came to me for answers. Square dancing is more than dosido, more than swing your partner, its Serious Business here at Delain Easton Elementary School in union city. There is nothing you cant like about square dancing. It teaches kids to cooperate with each other. Somebody messes up and gets mad. I missed an arm, but luckily i had to grab it back. Reporter when the entire school of 820 kids from kind gauard gar guarden to fifth grade do it together, it is pure joy. I wonder what the record is for square dancing. Reporter there was a Guinness World record for largest square dance, with 800 dancers. Maybe easton could top it. Every single student learned the dance. Parents and teachers joined in, and on march 25th, of 2016, Delain Easton dancers reached for the prize. It was quite a sight from the ground, even more so from above. I felt excited. I knew i was part of something big. So excited, but still nervous. Oh, my god, were going to be famous. Reporter they danced for five minutes, 38 seconds, submitted all the evidence to guinness, then waited. And waited. And nobody answered me. Reporter a year later, they still didnt know if they set a world record. So i contacted 7 on your side. Reporter we contacted guinness and finally, we got their answer. We officially are in, the guinness book of world records. Reporter they did it, this tiny east bay school held a world record. At least for a few weeks. We do know that our record has since been broken. Reporter turns out two months after they set their record, a school in riverside broke it. But it didnt break their spirit. Im just so happy for my school. This is a giant accomplishment. This whole entire school, and they have done a huge thing. Reporter the folks at guinness couldnt agree more.
