from san jose at 54. 5 mile visibility here in half moon bay. looking at oakland 52 degrees. there's the fog. it continues to peel back. it's sunny and at about 10:00, 11:00. then temperatures will be comfortable in the 60s and 70s. but that breeze is going to be with us again up to 15 miles an hour. so we will look at a cooler monday a chance of showers throughout the latter part of the week. and line up all the temperatures for your mother's day coming up. carolyn. >> lisa, thank you. breaking overnight, marin county sheriff's deputies are searching for the person who shot someone in marin city. it happened on cole drive near drake avenue around 2:00 this morning. the sheriff said the victim was shot several times. no word on their condition. deputies have not released any information about possible suspects or any vehicles connected to that shooting. >> and we have developing news in san jose. firefighters put out a fire that spread from one house to another on south second street near interstate 280. that fire broke out around 2:00 this morning. the first crews on the scene had to call for additional help. fire reached three alarms. it took a little more than an hour to put it out. residents escaped from their burning homes quickly and no one was hurt. >> it was smoke, i looked out the window and seen the fire under the stairs under the laundry room so i got everybody out and told everybody to get out. >> we had two working structure fires at the same time. crews did an amazing job of making entry extinguishing the initial fire and moving it to the other building and extinguishing that one, as well. >> the red cross is now helping 8 people who were driven from their homes by that fire. a traffic mess, bridge and bart closers, added to a full schedule of events around the bay area this weekend. all of that leads to lots of cars on the road and plenty of impatience. here's live look from the san mateo bridge cam. work began late friday night. traffic headaches have kicked in all weekend long. leslie brinkley tells us more. >> this tangled mess of traffic originated with the shut down of all lanes of lanes of traffic on the bridge since friday night. first time the entire bridge has been resurfaced since 1967. so saturday people piled on had to the bay bridge as their alternate route. whether a day trip with mom to the city or 6:00 giants game, it was gridlock. >> i left my house at three and got here at five. we ate all our snacks for the game before we got here. >> a 2-hour drive from livermore? >> yes. >> right when we hit the 24-58 to interchange it was really bad. >> like rush hour? >> actually worse than rush hour. >> you drove from sacramento. was it a bad drive? >> not until we got to berkeley. >> and then -- >> then the bridge, it took us a while to get over the bridge. the other direction wasn't any better. driving between news stories. our abc7 news stories clocked in 2.25 hours getting from san mateo to oakland. by night fall things seemed to calm down. but expect another rough drive for mother's day on sunday. the san mateo bridge will reopen monday at 5:00 a.m. the best part everyone gets to look forward to memorial day weekend. that's when they can to it all over again. san mateo bridge will be closed another few days to finish the work. in san francisco, leslie brinkley, abc7 news. and because of the closer the bay bridge was packed all day yesterday. we can see the same thing again today. this is a live look at the bay bridge. no problems. it should remain busy through tonight. and another closer this weekend, bart service has been suspended between the fruitvale and coliseum airport stations. a crew is working on a rail replacement project. a bus bridge will help riders travel between the stations. bart says there could be 30-minute delays. service is expected to be running again tomorrow morning. >> parking fees are increasing on june 1st at three bart stations. the price is going up 50 cents at the two concord stations and the milbrae station. san jose police have arrested a man suspected of firing a gun toward a home. the search for the man began early last night. it forced officers to block traffic, even keep residents away from their homes for a few hours. drivers and residents faced roadblocks near branham lane and vista park drive. police told us no one was hurt in the shooting. the warriors are backed into a corner. they need three wins in the next four games to move on in the nba playoffs. as seen on abc7 last night, the grizzlies outmuscled and outshot the warriors. mvp steph curry scored 23 points but did not shoot well from the field. the grizzlies punished golden state inside, fending off a late warriors come back to win 99-89. >> you are who you are at this point. and we are going to do what we do, but we've got to do it better. >> looking forward to the challenge of getting to that level in game four, setting the tone, and hopefully it will be a different outcome. >> the next game is tomorrow in memphis. larry beil will have highlights from last night's game and more reaction later in sports. warriors fans, like the team, hope tomorrow will bring a different result. abc7 news was at street food in san francisco. that was one of last night's official warriors viewing venues. the atmosphere was festive, but it was a tough loss to watch. abc7 news reporter laura anthony found a similar story with disappointed members of dub nation in walnut creek. there's a new push to allow beauty salons and barbershops in california to serve alcohol without a liquor license, but not everyone is on board. >> we have licenses because this is a question of public safety and public health. >> the fight to get booze out of these businesses tonight at 11:00 on abc7 news. soccer legend pele is recovering after having prostate surgery in his native brazil. his doctors found so signs of cancer. the 74-year-old had surgery after being diagnosed with an enlarged prostate. this came after he was treated for kidney stones late last year. pele helped lead brazil to three world cup titles and he's credited with helping soccer gain more popularity here in the u.s., thanks for his playing for the new york cosmos pack in the 1970's. >> and in other soccer news the u.s. women's team will host ireland in san francisco. today's match marks the second of four series to prepare for the world cup. the u.s. opens world cup play on june 8th in winnipeg, canada. they face australia to begin the tournament. happening today, some of the world's most talented cyclists will hit the road to begin the am-gen tour of california. the first stage will run for 26 miles through the -- 126 miles through the sacramento area. tomorrow it's off to the sierra foothills and then to san jose on tuesday. that's when the riders will cover more than 105 miles during the tour's only stop here in the bay area. the race finishes in los angeles next weekend. fresh california strawberries are ripening early this year because of warm weather connected to our state's historic drought. but farmers are growing those berries with less water and that's thanks to the high-tech help they are getting from your drought-busting tax dollars. abc7 news reporter jonathan bloom reports from watsonville. >> we started farming in watsonville in 1952. >> since then a lot has changed on gary's strawberry farm, like the irrigation. >> you turn off that one row with a cork and then you would move to the next one. >> how much water is enough? texas and oklahoma. at least one person is dead after a tornado hit a small texas farming town. today's forecast is calling for more severe weather across the great plains. abc news reporter elizabeth herr explains from oklahoma city. >> tornadoes swirling across texas. >> trees ripped out of the ground. definitely very powerful, very destructive. >> killing one and injuring three others have residents in the town of cisco in disbelief. >> i've lived here over ten years and i haven't seen anything like this is a long time. >> the storm, so powerful, packing heavy rain and hail, it could be days before authorities can assess the damage done. >> wow! >> it was another tense night for millions with wicked weather battering the plains. oklahoma taking a beating also from large hail and flash floods. knocking down powerlines leaving thousands in the dark. from lightning to thunder, there was even spring snow in nebraska, california and colorado, causing delays on the ground and in the air. and this morning with threats of more severe weather, a rainbow on the horizon in colorado. a glimmer of hope for so many forced to begin the painful process of recovering and rebuilding. abc news. a tropical storm headed for south and north carolina has weakened slightly as it gets -- or made landfall earlier this morning. this is what is looked like in in whitesville beach, north carolina moments ago. that storm has created dangerous conditions on the beach. right now tropical storm anna has sustained winds of 50 miles an hour. coastal communities have built up mounds of sand to keep the water from reaching homes. at least one college commencement ceremony has now been moved indoors. >> developing news. police in mississippi have captured three people suspected in the shooting deaths last night of two police officers. at least one of the suspects opened fire on an officer after he stopped an s.u.v. in hattiesburg. another officer rushed to assist the first police officer and then he died after a shootout. police urged nearby residents to stay inside their homes during an intense manhunt for the suspects. again, three people have been captured. there's a big push to improve access to fresh fruits and vegetables. it is in a low income neighborhood that has dozens of liquor stores, but does not have a full-service supermarket. it's happening in the tenderloin district in san francisco. abc7 news anchor cheryl jennings takes us there to meet a store owner who is leading the way and is being honored for his leadership. there are changes every day. whatever is available in the market we put parts of it here you know. >> he owns a beautiful grocery store called radmund's produce market that would fit in any neighborhood. it has glass doors and allows people to see what's inside. lots of organic fruits and vegetables and shelves stocked with healthy food and he has expanded to a brand new area of fresh meat. and you won't find any alcohol sales here. that is almost unheard of in this neighborhood. this is the tenderloin. one of the most economically disadvantaged areas in san francisco. there are more than 70 liquor stores in a square mile area. >> you step outside of the store, go to the left or right there are stores all over. and they are all liquor stores. >> radmund is the first food store owner to work with a coalition founded by the tenderloin neighborhood. radmund, a father of seven, he is from yemen, and he doesn't drink. he wants to serve his community well. so he partnered with the coalition to revamp his store inside and out, had and they even helped with marketing. >> they offered the new shelving. they said we will put new fixtures in the store so this is all new. in return we got more fruits and vegetables, dried and fresh. >> most people here don't have cars. they take the bus or a cab, if they can afford it. and that's why their work is so important. it owns 30 apartment buildings in the tenderloin, providing low income housing for people like this mother. radmund's is a gift for her. she doesn't have a car so shopping for her family is challenging. >> i take the bus, and with my kids, and when i come back i come with the three bags, four bags and my kids, watching my kids. and now it's, wow. >> much better? >> yeah. >> the executive director of the tenderloin neighborhood development corporation, or tndc. >> i'm thrilled with everything he's put together here, not only for the great food that he's delivering, but also as a model, as a pioneer and a trail blazer to show other people this is possible. >> there's a powerful economic incentive to keep business in the tenderloin. >> if you extrapolate the money per household it comes out to a little over $900,000 a month. over $10 million each year that's leaving the neighborhood. >> ryan is a community organizer, working with local residents like these to find solutions for access to healthier food. tenderloin residents are discovering radmund's fresh approach, but it takes time. and he runs another business to help support his family. even so, he encourages other store owners to join his effort. >> our sales are going up in terms of fruits and vegetables. they continue to grow. and we are very happy about that. >> i feel very satisfied. >> cheryl jennings, abc7 news. >> mr. radmund will be honored eight. the days of getting longer and it is feeling a bit like summer. here's the roof camera where it's cloudy. west wind up to about 10 miles an hour. it's 54 in san jose. 50 half moon bay. and the visibility at about 5 miles. no delays at sfo. 52 oakland. this is sfo right now where temperatures today once again in the 60s. 50s by the delta. the winds gusting to near 32 miles an hour. but afternoon highs will be comfortable, but no 80s to speak of. in fact, we will be look at temperatures another five degrees of cooling on tap for tomorrow with more mist and drizzle. good morning, san jose. it's a little bit dreary here. cloudy and cool for everyone to to start out. a mild mother's day and chance of rain heads our way thursday and stays with us into friday and saturday. two areas of low pressure to note. the first one will be clearing out the coastptomorrow. it is allowing for the cool day today. high pressure sort of stalled off the coast here. but we will look for the first area of low pressure to bring some rain around the oregon and california border. it's going to stay there, but it will disrupt the marine layer. the secondary of low pressure is the stronger one that could bring us more rain by the end of the week. 80 yosemite. 67 in the northern sierra. los angeles has cleared out at 72. but a cool 59 in monterey. you have to get toward sacramento to enjoy those 80s. so we are looking at high temperatures around the bay today. just at about 60. only partial clearing san francisco. look for 58 bodega bay. 68 in san rafael. the breezy winds throughout the afternoon keeping it just at about 63. richmond and oakland 66. in fremont looks for 75 out by fairfield. and later on this afternoon, if you are headed to at&t park 1:00, just 57 degrees. we will get a little sunshine. that wind will kick up and by 4:00 56 degrees. but for the motors out there we have more 60s around the bay 70s around our inland east bay. and looking at a cool night tonight with that sun setting after 8:00. so the coast will stay cloudy in the 50s. accuweather seven-day forecast, temperatures come down tomorrow as the clouds mix out, throughout the day on tuesday as well. clouds and sun again on wednesday and look at the highs thursday, friday and saturday. if you don't see any raindrops it will be cool, just in the 60s all around the bay. and even into saturday still a better chance. showers. so that could be exciting for us. >> yeah. i liked your spinning flowers there. >> yeah, nice. thank you. >> volunteers are hoping that dozens of new trees will make part of the bay area a little safer. abc7 news was in east oakland for a community planting. for the past five years the sierra club have targeted high crime areas all over the city, replacing concrete and asphalt with budding trees. volunteers say it helps the environment and improves neighborhoods. >> areas, clear evidence that having tree covering areas is not only good for people's health, it also reduces crime. >> it was hard getting up this morning, but being able to be out here and meeting new people and being able to do something good for your community is all worth it. donations paid for
