>> good morning, everyone. thanks for joining us. i'm carolyn tyler. it is sunday, february 9th. let's start with a quick first look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning, carolyn. up on the roof. a little bit of light rain but heaviest rain continues to fall in the north bay. more moisture offshore. this shows the before. moisture headed toward marin county. but the heaviest rain has been a little further north. we are looking at the downpours of that been continuing all night from highway 12 through sonoma, napa, yachtville, back toward point reyes. as a result the national weather service still has the area under a flash flood watch until 3:00 this afternoon. lighter rains on half moon bay. upward of three inches in the past 24 hours half moon bay. into the east bay, fremont. livermore a little bit of drizzle. for the rest of the day the focus is this the north bay. the rest of the bay area can look for more rain today. then it spreads south and we look for showers ending in the south bay this evening. we are still looking at another additional few inches of rain up in the north bay. lesser amounts elsewhere. i'll have all the details on how much and when when we do weather in a few minutes. >> thank you, lisa. well, this wet weather is causing some problems around the bay area. the biggest issues are in the north bay. take a look at this rockslide. large boulders came crashing down on highway 101 near sir francis drake boulevard yesterday. and a flash flood warning is issued and 101 and schellville is expected to be reopened this morning due to flooding. abc7 news reporter has more from the north bay. >> reporter: the flooded-out intersection didn't stop a few drivers from trying to get through. this person finally realized it was a bad idea and turned around. chp officers said it is one of the biggest dangers when it rains. >> there's a lot of standing water so what we want to do is have people avoid the standing water. standing water is very dangerous. you cannot tell the depth of it, you don't know what is inside of it, and you don't know how your vehicle is going to react. >> this happened during the afternoon flash flood warning. a flash flood watch throughout the north bay remains in effect. the deluge of rain caused a series of problems throughout the north bay. in santa rosa, parts of tanglewood park were under water because a nearby creek overran it's banks. standing water here caused a stretch to be shut down just in case. and we talked with one resident as he shored up his home with sandbags. >> happy to see the rain.f% a little bit of work to do, but all in all it's going to benefit our stuff in the house because it's not going to get wet and ruined. >> down the way, marin county, the creeks looked full but didn't seem that they would overflow. abc7 news. take a look at the damage the rain left behind on this stretch in sonoma county yesterday. that is fort ross road. half the street is gone. road crews arrived to see the two-lane highway reduced to one. >> down below there was one vehicle this was inundated by the rockslide from fort ross road. >> you can make out the roof of a truck that got swept away in the slide and remains buried in thick, heavy mudand rock. more severe storm damage, this time in san francisco's russian hill area. a large tree was uprooted just after 9:00 last night on francisco and columbus streets. that car next to it was crushed. in mill valley a massive tree at the mill valley golf course split in three and one of the pieces came down over glen drive. it snarled up the only street into and out of the neighborhood. crews worked quickly to try to clean up that mess. people were preparing for the storm all over the bay area yesterday. lots of sand bags were handed out from the north by to the south bay. in oakland the public works agency is making sandbags available to residents and businesses to help prevent flooding. and umbrellas were popping up everywhere on san francisco's embarcadero. the wet weather did not keep the shoppers and tourists away from the ferry building. know to the south bay where the last time the santa cruz mountains saw rain was back in october and then only a quarter inch. that was certainly not the case yesterday. abc7 news reporter john alston has more from the santa cruz mountains. >> reporter: a noticeable amount of water is finally cascading into the san lorenzo river in felton but it's still not enough to mick a difference. they are used to a lot worse. >> normally it gets trashed. limbs down, trees down, all kinds of crazy stuff. >> but as crazy as it's gotten for him is 3 1/2 inches. enough do damage. >> sky light a leaking, ruined some electronic equipment but i'm happy to see it. but i'm happy to see it. we need it. so happy to be here in santa cruz county. >> it's much-needed but this is nothing. >> this is just the tip of the iceberg. >> i just don't want people to get fooled that we've got a little bit of rain so people start using water a lot more. we are still in a drought. >> heavier rain is expected for sunday. in the santa cruz mountains, john alston, abc7 news. >> viewers are sending us their pictures of the storm. this is glen m. he's trying to keep the drains clear on hidden valley road in guerveville. you know crews trying to clear debris on roadways covered with water. all of the water created problems for crews in hillsboro last night after a water main broke. the break tremendously closed the road just after 7:00 and it reopened late last night. pg&e has been struggling with power outages. mere are the latest numbers. 350 customers on the peninsula are currently without power. in the north bay more than 2200 customers are in the dark, as as well as 567 customers in the east bay. the south bay is not report any outages. in the sierra it's snow slowing down travel along some of the roadways there. this is a live caltrans come raw at truck tee on interstate 80. drivers are required to carry chains on interstate 80. chains are also required on highway 50 from twin bridges to meyers in eldorado county. the snow is great news for tahoe area ski resorts. this is video sent to us yesterday by northstar. elevations over 8,000 feet got close to three feet of snow yesterday and lower elevations got around six information is available at abc7news.com/apps. police are looking for a security van that was stolen from the oakland hills last night. authoritiescy someone stole a license plate on burr dock drive. authorities say the license plate matches a 1999 white ford van with the words "maximum security" on the side of the vehicle. police say they are concerned criminals may use the van to do what criminals do, illegal activity. another problem has been discovered on the new eastern span of the bay bridge. the san francisco chronicle reports caltrans recently found rainwater dripping into the steel bridge structure below the bridge deck. that structure was designed to be watertight and outside experts believe it could pose a risk of corrosion on the bridge. lisa argen is up with a check of the accuweather forecast. rain still on the way. >> that's right. carolyn, they haven't been out of it in the north bay. in fact, we are looking at still some flooding going on in parts of yachtville, santa rosa got a break right now. more rain offshore. everyone will see it this afternoon with the last wave pushing through. could even see one to two inches in some shots spots. i'll let you know we had. we will have the latest from he'sa coming up. actor and director woody allen is defending himself against renewed accusations of sexual abuse. allen as issued a rare statement responding to a recent letter by his adopted daughter that was publish in the new york times . here's juju chang. >> of course i did not molest dillon. that flat-out denial in the sunday new york times from the famously reclusive director. lashing out from allegations from his adopted daughter. dillon farrow. >> i loved her. allen argues legal details and addresses personal matters from his marriages. but foremost he accused mia farrow of coaching their adopted daughter, then and now. one must and, did dillon even wright the letter or was it at least guide bid her mother? dillon, now 28, spoke out after the director was honored at this year's golden globes. she described in details alleged sexual abuse in the attic of her home at age 7. >> in his letter allen denies it saying the attic was never a place i would go because it's a tiny, cramped and closed spot and i'm a major claw phone. for years he accused them of manipulating their daughter out of spite. a charge dillon denies. >> my mother never coached me. she was hoping against hope i made it up abc news, new york. >> a petaluma company is recalling more than 8 million pounds of meat products. the department of agriculture said the rancho feeding corporation processed diseased meat without inspection. each box has a case code number esp527 inside the usda mark. each box has a case code number ending in 3 or 4. the products were made from january, 2013 to january, 2014. they were shipped to california, illinois, texas and florida. this morning equal rights advocates are hailing a historic announcement on same-sex marriage. speaking to the human rights campaign's new york gala last night. u.s. attorney eric holder announced he will extend the federal government's recognition of same sex marriages to the justice department. holder said he would issue a policy memo tomorrow instructing his employees to give lawful same-sex marriages full and equal recognition. >> all of these steps forward are worth celebrating. i also want to make one thing very clear. for my colleagues, for me, and i know for all of you, it is really only the beginning. >> the change means same sex spouses cannot be compelled to testify against each other in federal court and will be able to file jointly for bankruptcy. >> the winter olympics are in full swing and russia security remains tight. this following an attempt by familiar figures thanks to games and movies. now bay area start-up wants to use robots to help teach kids a skill that could change their lives. abc7 news anchor carolyn johnson has the details. ♪ >> reporter: this is bo, a robot with a mind of a child. maybe some day -- >> kids are sponges. you expos them to things and they pick up things much faster than you would ever imagine. >> he is co-founder of play-i, a starter that wants to teach children more than how to play with robots, it wants to teach them to program them as well. >> kids at a very young age, as young as preschool, can grasp programming concepts. >> he's placing it down in the robot. >> after first designing the robots, the team came up with behavers that a child would be able to both program and enjoy. the key, they say, was coming up with a simplified version of computer code that younger children could learn and then build upon. the software interface can be run from smartphones and tablets. in this case color-coded dots are sequenced to program the robot to play the xylophone. >> i will go down, go to yellow and hit it again and it's a sequence, that's a program and told the robot what to do. ♪ >> he said in test groups the system worked with children as young as five years old. as kids progressed they can move on to more sophisticated coding, including popular programming languages like java. the goal is to teach a new generation of programmers to compete in an increasingly technical world. >> computer science in the u.s. has fullen for behind the rest of the world. there are less than one in ten schools that offer computer science. and that led me to think how can we make it fun, exciting and accessible for every child. >> it's a process him and his team believe they can jump start with the help of a freewheeling, xylophone-playing, programmable robot. carolyn johnson, abc7 news. ♪ >> kind of a sloppy morning out there if you haven't been out yet to test the elements. abc7 meteorologist lisa argen is on the roof to bring us the very latest and not too bad for you, lisa, in san francisco. >> exactly. we've had just a little bit of mist and drizzle here but there is a flood watch for the north bay, the hills, the valleys and the coast until 3:00 this afternoon. the storm risk continues for the north bay throughout the afternoon. but we will see heavier rain all across the bay area after about 12:00, 1:00. so there is a possibility of maybe some rockslides where all that water has been coming down the past couple of days. here is where it has not let up. from yachtville, highway 29, out toward fir field and vacaville. then toward northern marin and southern marin valley. mill beach getting ready for more heavy rain. a fast flood watch until 3:00 for parts of napa, marin and sonoma. the rest of the area look for pesky, light showers. also fremont between 680 and 880 looking at a shower. concord, antioch, out toward discovery bay in the san ramon valley, as well as oakland, you are dry. in the sierra nevada it's 38 degrees at the tahoe valley airport. higher elevation snow and we will look at the winter storm warning until monday, that's tomorrow, with an additional 8 inches of snow at lake level. the snow level will lower tonight but this afternoon golf 7,000 feet. if you know folks up there, they may have a tough time getting back today. temperatures in the mid-and upper 50s. the droppal allowing for mild readings. throughout the rest of the day temperatures fairly up a form with numbers ranking from 56 santa rosa, as well as concord. livermore coming in at 57. here's a look at a soggy emeryville. we have the heaviest rain this morning in the north bay and periods of heavy rain for everyone throughout the day today. it will be dry tomorrow, into tuesday. wednesday at this point not looking particularly wet. about an inch of rain in concord the past 24 hours. only .02 here a look at livermore. not so much. and redwood city closing in on a half-inch and nearly 3 inches on the coast. san francisco an inch and a half. look at mt. tam, nearly 13 inches of rain and santa rosa over 3 and mount st. helena, 7.75. the wide ranging amounts will continue today as the focus guns again is in the north bay. but the whole band will sink south and that will allow for more generous rain throughout the afternoon. here's a look at the timeline. by 1:00, 2:00, it begins to push through the east bay, the south bay. then it's out of the north bay by 7:00, 8:00. and the lingering showers throughout the overnight hours, particularly from the south bay, the central coast and then its over. rainfall amounts 1 to 3 inches. high are elevation necessary the north bay a tenth to three quarters inch. lower elevations, the isn't cruise mound takes, 1 to 2 inches. 59 livermore. the accuweather seven-day forecast, heavy rain today throughout the afternoon, then we will look for just pick skies into tomorrow afternoon and tuesday maybe a cans of showers north bay on thursday. so we are still going to see some more rain. good way to track the weather is to follow live doppler 7hd on twitter for latest bay area weather conditions rain or shine. you are right, i'm enjoying a little bit of a break out here but more is needed. not for everyone. more is going to come. the week ahead looks interesting. you will have to [ female announcer ] try new pillsbury heat-n-go mini pancakes. >> the i.r.s. is going after the estate of late pop singer michael jackson. the feds are demanding more than half a billion dollars in taxes and penalties. it's all over the estimated value of jackson's estate. the i.r.s. says jackson's image is worth $434 million and the beetles catalog he owned is worth $469 million. the estate says it has no value. jackson's executors say the estate is worth just $7 million. the i.r.s. said it's actually closer to $1.1 billion. >> up next, we continue tracking the storm but this winter weather isn't just here in the bay area. the storm is causing problems all over the northwest. and the story of a different kind of war hero. the men and women behind the new movie "the monuments men." and here is a live look from emeryville. it is wet out there. if you have weather photos, we would love to see them. just send them to >> welcome back, everyone. we are starting this half-hour with a quick look at the weather. >> nice break in san francisco but not for the friends in the north bay where the rain had been heavy all morning long. take a look at point raise, wart santa rosa. highway 80, vacaville and fairfield as well. heavy rain through sonoma, highway 116 and 37 and out toward the coast into southern marin. salinas looking at more heavy showers. until 3:00 in the afternoon there's a flash flood watch for the mountains and valleys of the north bay, the coastal hills. but you head south and there's just a smattering of activity. san francisco will get wet the next half-hour. livermore, a few showers pushing out of milpitas. the risk of flooding remains in the north bay through the afternoon. possibility of clogged storm drains. everyone will get hit with more rain throughout the afternoon and the heaviest amounts will once again be up in the north bay but more rain in the east bay and south bay. you are not out of the woods yet. carolyn. >> thank you, lisa. because of flooding yesterday, about a mile of highway 121 was blocked off near schellville. that is expected to reopen by 7:00 this morning. swollen creeks aren't the only problem across the north bay, in mill valley a massive tree at the mill valley golf course split in three. one of the pieces came down over glen drive. it snarled the only street into and out of that neighborhood. power was out in the area for several hours. but residents say even with the problems, they are happy for the rain. >> they scare us for the last week saying never again, you know, will we see rain. it's here. >> we definitely need the rain. the nice thing about today is from mill valley and the areas around the bay itself, we had a fairly low high tide earlier today and so that kept the creeks pretty much in check. >> you can see the creek is full there but not overflowing. the rain was a welcome sight in the santa cruz mountains. last time they had any precipitation was back in october when it only saw a quarter inch. despite yesterday's rain, the amount still pales for what the area is used to. for example, it's a small fraction of what it is used to during the rainy season. heavier rain, though, is expected today of. there's lots of water this weekend and viewers are sending us their rain photos. take a look at this flooding. water filling up this field. it's near a barn. and in sonoma viewers sent us this photo of fowler creek rising. you can send us our weather photos at ureport. it is not just the bay area getting hit by a major storm, the entire pacific northwest is impacted. oregon could take the hardest hit. there are ice storm warnings there until 10:00 tonight. it's already caused lots of accidents. here's abc news reporter chuck sievertson. >> in oregon the latest snow meant traffic jams and traffic slams. this wreck was on i-84. the situation isn't expected to improve for the rest of the weekend. authorities tell drivers to stay home or end up like this man. >> just couldn't traction on the back and we are going, going, going, and i couldn't go forward anymore and off the shoulder and i thought, well, let's just leave it here, put our thumbs up and a nurse picked us up. >> as another storm hit the northwest, cars spun, toe trucks -- tow trucks sometimes worked overtime and sometimes horsepower bass no substitute for manpower. at portland international airport, near white out conditions cancelled 50 flights friday night and the cold, conked out furnaces. >> it kind of felt like what it feels like outside. >> in western arkansas, dozens of car wrecks littered the highways. >> a truck was turned over on its side. >> i saw a cargo off the road, go through a fence and hit a tree. still some tiny travelers made the best of the mess. >> want to go for a ride? "the press democrat" reports regulators are curbing the annual catch limit for abalone. they have also closed a popular dive site. that's at fort ross state park in sonoma county. divers can now only catch 18 abalone per year, down from 24. the move comes following an unprecedented abalone die-off in 2011 which littered the shore with abalone carcasses. well, my friend lisa argen is not next to me, she is up on the roof to check out the weather forecast. how are you doing, lisa? >> good morning, everyone. thanks for joining us. i'm carolyn tyler. it is sunday, february 9th. let's start with a quick first look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning, carolyn. up on the roof. a little bit of light rain but heaviest rain continues to fall in the north bay. more moisture offshore. this shows the before. moisture headed toward marin county. but the heaviest rain has been a little further north. we are looking at the downpours of that been continuing all night from highway 12 through sonoma, napa, yachtville, back toward point reyes. as a result the national weather service still has the area under a flash flood watch until 3:00 this afternoon. lighter rains on half moon bay. upward of three inches in the past 24 hours half moon bay. into the east bay, fremont. livermore a little bit of drizzle. for the rest of the day the focus is this the north bay. the rest of the bay area can look for more rain today. then it spreads south and we look for showers ending in the south bay this evening. we are still looking at another additional few inches of rain up in the north bay. lesser amounts elsewhere. i'll have all the details on how much and when when we do weather in a few minutes. >> thank you, lisa. well, this wet weather is causing some problems around the bay area. the biggest issues are in the north bay. take a look at this rockslide. large boulders came crashing down on highway 101 near sir francis drake boulevard yesterday. and a flash flood warning is issued and 101 and schellville is expected to be reopened this morning due to flooding. abc7 news reporter has more from the north bay. >> reporter: the flooded-out intersection didn't stop a few drivers from trying to get through. this person finally realized it was a bad idea and turned around. chp officers said it is one of the biggest dangers when it rains. >> there's a lot of standing water so what we want to do is have people avoid the standing water. standing water is very dangerous. you cannot tell the depth of it, you don't know what is inside of it, and you don't know how your vehicle is going to react. >> this happened during the afternoon flash flood warning. a flash flood watch throughout the north bay remains in effect. the deluge of rain caused a series of problems throughout the north bay. in santa rosa, parts of tanglewood park were under water because a nearby creek overran it's banks. standing water here caused a stretch to be shut down just in case. and we talked with one resident as he shored up his home with sandbags. >> happy to see the rain.f% a little bit of work to do, but all in all it's going to benefit our stuff in the house because it's not going to get wet and ruined. >> down the way, marin county, the creeks looked full but didn't seem that they would overflow. abc7 news. take a look at the damage the rain left behind on this stretch in sonoma county yesterday. that is fort ross road. half the street is gone. road crews arrived to see the two-lane highway reduced to one. >> down below there was one vehicle this was inundated by the rockslide from fort ross road. >> you can make out the roof of a truck that got swept away in the slide and remains buried in thick, heavy mudand rock. more severe storm damage, this time in san francisco's russian hill area. a large tree was uprooted just after 9:00 last night on francisco and columbus streets. that car next to it was crushed. in mill valley a massive tree at the mill valley golf course split in three and one of the pieces came down over glen drive. it snarled up the only street into and out of the neighborhood. crews worked quickly to try to clean up that mess. people were preparing for the storm all over the bay area yesterday. lots of sand bags were handed out from the north by to the south bay. in oakland the public works agency is making sandbags available to residents and businesses to help prevent flooding. and umbrellas were popping up everywhere on san francisco's embarcadero. the wet weather did not keep the shoppers and tourists away from the ferry building. know to the south bay where the last time the santa cruz mountains saw rain was back in october and then only a quarter inch. that was certainly not the case yesterday. abc7 news reporter john alston has more from the santa cruz mountains. >> reporter: a noticeable amount of water is finally cascading into the san lorenzo river in felton but it's still not enough to mick a difference. they are used to a lot worse. >> normally it gets trashed. limbs down, trees down, all kinds of crazy stuff. >> but as crazy as it's gotten for him is 3 1/2 inches. enough do damage. >> sky light a leaking, ruined some electronic equipment but i'm happy to see it. but i'm happy to see it. we need it. so happy to be here in santa cruz county. >> it's much-needed but this is nothing. >> this is just the tip of the iceberg. >> i just don't want people to get fooled that we've got a little bit of rain so people start using water a lot more. we are still in a drought. >> heavier rain is expected for sunday. in the santa cruz mountains, john alston, abc7 news. >> viewers are sending us their pictures of the storm. this is glen m. he's trying to keep the drains clear on hidden valley road in guerveville. you know crews trying to clear debris on roadways covered with water. all of the water created problems for crews in hillsboro last night after a water main broke. the break tremendously closed the road just after 7:00 and it reopened late last night. pg&e has been struggling with power outages. mere are the latest numbers. 350 customers on the peninsula are currently without power. in the north bay more than 2200 customers are in the dark, as as well as 567 customers in the east bay. the south bay is not report any outages. in the sierra it's snow slowing down travel along some of the roadways there. this is a live caltrans come raw at truck tee on interstate 80. drivers are required to carry chains on interstate 80. chains are also required on highway 50 from twin bridges to meyers in eldorado county. the snow is great news for tahoe area ski resorts. this is video sent to us yesterday by northstar. elevations over 8,000 feet got close to three feet of snow yesterday and lower elevations got around six information is available at abc7news.com/apps. police are looking for a security van that was stolen from the oakland hills last night. authoritiescy someone stole a license plate on burr dock drive. authorities say the license plate matches a 1999 white ford van with the words "maximum security" on the side of the vehicle. police say they are concerned criminals may use the van to do what criminals do, illegal activity. another problem has been discovered on the new eastern span of the bay bridge. the san francisco chronicle reports caltrans recently found rainwater dripping into the steel bridge structure below the bridge deck. that structure was designed to be watertight and outside experts believe it could pose a risk of corrosion on the bridge. lisa argen is up with a check of the accuweather forecast. rain still on the way. >> that's right. carolyn, they haven't been out of it in the north bay. in fact, we are looking at still some flooding going on in parts of yachtville, santa rosa got a break right now. more rain offshore. everyone will see it this afternoon with the last wave pushing through. could even see one to two inches in some shots spots. i'll let you know famously reclusive director. lashing out from allegations from his adopted daughter. dillon farrow. >> i loved her. allen argues legal details and addresses personal matters from his marriages. but after the director was honored at this year's golden globes. she described in details alleged sexual abuse in the attic of her home at age 7. >> in his letter allen denies it saying the attic was familiar figures thanks to games and movies. now bay area start-up wants to use robots to help teach kids a skill that could change their lives. abc7 news anchor carolyn johnson has the details. ♪ >> reporter: this is bo, a robot with a mind of a child. maybe some day -- >> kids are sponges. you expos them to things and they pick up things much faster than you would ever imagine. >> he is co-founder of play-i, a starter that wants to teach children more than how to play with robots, it wants to teach them to program them as well. >> kids at a very young age, as young as preschool, can grasp programming concepts. >> he's placing it down in the robot. >> after first designing the robots, the team came up with behavers that a child would be able to both program and enjoy. the key, they say, was coming up with a simplified version of computer code that younger children could learn and then build upon. the software interface can be run from smartphones and tablets. in this case color-coded dots are sequenced to program the robot to play the xylophone. >> i will go down, go to yellow and hit it again and it's a sequence, that's a program and told the robot what to do. ♪ >> he said in test groups the system worked with children as young as five years old. as kids progressed they can move on to more sophisticated coding, including popular programming languages like java. the goal is to teach a new generation of programmers to compete in an increasingly technical world. >> computer science in the u.s. has fullen for behind the rest of the world. there are less than one in ten schools that offer computer science. and that led me to think how can we make it fun, exciting and accessible for every child. >> it's a process him and his team believe they can jump start with the help of a freewheeling, xylophone-playing, programmable robot. carolyn johnson, abc7 news. ♪ >> kind of a sloppy morning out there if you haven't been out yet to test the elements. abc7 meteorologist lisa argen is on the roof to bring us the very latest and not too bad for you, lisa, in san francisco. >> exactly. we've had just a little bit of mist and drizzle here but there is a flood watch for the north bay, the hills, the valleys and the coast until 3:00 this afternoon. the storm risk continues for the north bay throughout the afternoon. but we will see heavier rain all across the bay area after about 12:00, 1:00. so there is a possibility of maybe some rockslides where all that water has been coming down the past couple of days. here is where it has not let up. from yachtville, highway 29, out toward fir field and vacaville. then toward northern marin and southern marin valley. mill beach getting ready for more heavy rain. a fast flood watch until 3:00 for parts of napa, marin and sonoma. the rest of the area look for pesky, light showers. also fremont between 680 and 880 looking at a shower. concord, antioch, out toward discovery bay in the san ramon valley, as well as oakland, you are dry. in the sierra nevada it's 38 degrees at the tahoe valley airport. higher elevation snow and we will look at the winter storm warning until monday, that's tomorrow, with an additional 8 inches of snow at lake level. the snow level will lower tonight but this afternoon golf 7,000 feet. if you know folks up there, they may have a tough time getting back today. temperatures in the mid-and upper 50s. the droppal allowing for mild readings. throughout the rest of the day temperatures fairly up a form with numbers ranking from 56 santa rosa, as well as concord. livermore coming in at 57. here's a look at a soggy emeryville. we have the heaviest rain this morning in the north bay and periods of heavy rain for everyone throughout the day today. it will be dry tomorrow, into tuesday. wednesday at this point not looking particularly wet. about an inch of rain in concord the past 24 hours. only .02 here a look at livermore. not so much. and redwood city closing in on a half-inch and nearly 3 inches on the coast. san francisco an inch and a half. look at mt. tam, nearly 13 inches of rain and santa rosa over 3 and mount st. helena, 7.75. the wide ranging amounts will continue today as the focus guns again is in the north bay. but the whole band will sink south and that will allow for more generous rain throughout the afternoon. here's a look at the timeline. by 1:00, 2:00, it begins to push through the east bay, the south bay. then it's out of the north bay by 7:00, 8:00. and the lingering showers throughout the overnight hours, particularly from the south bay, the central coast and then its over. rainfall amounts 1 to 3 inches. high are elevation necessary the north bay a tenth to three quarters inch. lower elevations, the isn't cruise mound takes, 1 to 2 inches. 59 livermore. the accuweather seven-day forecast, heavy rain today throughout the afternoon, then we will look for just pick skies into tomorrow afternoon and tuesday maybe a cans of showers north bay on thursday. so we are still going to see some more rain. good way to track the weather is to follow live doppler 7hd on twitter for latest bay area weather conditions rain or shine. you are right, i'm enjoying a little bit of a break out here but more is needed. not for everyone. more is going to come. the week ahead looks interesting. you will have to [ female announcer ] try new pillsbury heat-n-go mini pancakes. >> the i.r.s. is going after the estate of late pop singer michael jackson. the feds are demanding more than half a billion dollars in taxes and penalties. it's all over the estimated value of jackson's estate. the i.r.s. says jackson's image is worth $434 million and the beetles catalog he owned is worth $469 million. the estate says it has no value. jackson's executors say the estate is worth just $7 million. the i.r.s. said it's actually closer to $1.1 billion. >> up next, we continue tracking the storm but this winter weather isn't just here in the bay area. the storm is causing problems all over the northwest. and the story of a different kind of war hero. the men and women behind the new movie "the monuments men." and here is a live look from emeryville. it is wet out there. if you have weather photos, we would love to see them. just send them to >> welcome back, everyone. we are starting this half-hour with a quick look at the weather. >> nice break in san francisco but not for the friends in the north bay where the rain had been heavy all morning long. take a look at point raise, wart santa rosa. highway 80, vacaville and fairfield as well. heavy rain through sonoma, highway 116 and 37 and out toward the coast into southern marin. salinas looking at more heavy showers. until 3:00 in the afternoon there's a flash flood watch for the mountains and valleys of the north bay, the coastal hills. but you head south and there's just a smattering of activity. san francisco will get wet the next half-hour. livermore, a few showers pushing out of milpitas. the risk of flooding remains in the north bay through the afternoon. possibility of clogged storm drains. everyone will get hit with more rain throughout the afternoon and the heaviest amounts will once again be up in the north bay but more rain in the east bay and south bay. you are not out of the woods yet. carolyn. >> thank you, lisa. because of flooding yesterday, about a mile of highway 121 was blocked off near schellville. that is expected to reopen by 7:00 this morning. swollen creeks aren't the only problem across the north bay, in mill valley a massive tree at the mill valley golf course split in three. one of the pieces came down over glen drive. it snarled the only street into and out of that neighborhood. power was out in the area for several hours. but residents say even with the problems, they are happy for the rain. >> they scare us for the last week saying never again, you know, will we see rain. it's here. >> we definitely need the rain. the nice thing about today is from mill valley and the areas around the bay itself, we had a fairly low high tide earlier today and so that kept the creeks pretty much in check. >> you can see the creek is full there but not overflowing. the rain was a welcome sight in the santa cruz mountains. last time they had any precipitation was back in october when it only saw a quarter inch. despite yesterday's rain, the amount still pales for what the area is used to. for example, it's a small fraction of what it is used to during the rainy season. heavier rain, though, is expected today of. there's lots of water this weekend and viewers are sending us their rain photos. take a look at this flooding. water filling up this field. it's near a barn. and in sonoma viewers sent us this photo of fowler creek rising. you can send us our weather photos at ureport. it is not just the bay area getting hit by a major storm, the entire pacific northwest is impacted. oregon could take the hardest hit. there are ice storm warnings there until 10:00 tonight. it's already caused lots of accidents. here's abc news reporter chuck sievertson. >> in oregon the latest snow meant traffic jams and traffic slams. this wreck was on i-84. the situation isn't expected to improve for the rest of the weekend. authorities tell drivers to stay home or end up like this man. >> just couldn't traction on the back and we are going, going, going, and i couldn't go forward anymore and off the shoulder and i thought, well, let's just leave it here, put our thumbs up and a nurse picked us up. >> as another storm hit the northwest, cars spun, toe trucks -- tow trucks sometimes worked overtime and sometimes horsepower bass no substitute for manpower. at portland international airport, near white out conditions cancelled 50 flights friday night and the cold, conked out furnaces. >> it kind of felt like what it feels like outside. >> in western arkansas, dozens of car wrecks littered the highways. >> a truck was turned over on its side. >> i saw a cargo off the road, go through a fence and hit a tree. still some tiny travelers made the best of the mess. >> want to go for a ride? "the press democrat" reports regulators are curbing the annual catch limit for abalone. they have also closed a popular dive site. that's at fort ross state park in sonoma county. divers can now only catch 18 abalone per year, down from 24. the move comes following an unprecedented abalone die-off in 2011 which littered the shore with abalone carcasses. well, my friend lisa argen is not next to me, she is up on the roof to check out the weather forecast. how are you doing, lisa? shall we come back to lisa and go on to sports? >> sorry about that, carolyn. >> okay. >> heck with the umbrella, i don't need it. i was just updating the doppler. we have rain in the cities, but as i said, let's get right to it. in the north bay look at the flash flood watch until 3:00 this afternoon. heavy rain has been falling all night long. let's take a look at napa, american canyon, from novato, to martin owes and right along to oking at wet weather. wet dry in the east bay, the peninsula, the south bay. it's been the north bay where the rain really has not let up. we will continue to see that. a closer look at san francisco, oakland, we are sharing this little shower right now. but it is white and the winds aren't as gusty as they were yesterday. by the afternoon the rest of the bay area will see more green on this map and we will add up the rainfall in inches. the sierra nevada upper to 30s to low 40s lake level. it will be fluctuating throughout the day. the winter storm warning above 7,000 feet. an additional 8 inches through tomorrow at 4:00 a.m. but above 7,000 feet we could get another foot or so. lake level not doing so great. they have the gusty winds and rain-no mix. getting a little wet outside right now. temperatures in the mid-and upper 50s. but we will look at the breezy winds as the showers move on through. but there is another heavier waive off shore. 57 petaluma, as well as concord and livermore. the forecast highlights we've been looking at flooding and the heaviest rain will be with you once again in the north bay. you have had it all night long. it hasn't really let up. but the rest of us will see more rain throughout 1:00, 2:00 in the early evening hours. over an inch and a half in san francisco over the past 24 hours. nearly 13 inches mt. tam, three inches half moon bay, and only .02 in san jose. here's a look at the stretch. moisture. eye been a fire hose pointed at the north bay. that allows for the rain to spread south. here's a look at the next couple hours. 1:00 you see the yellow band from cloverdale to santa rosa. 1:00, 20:00, pushing through the east bay, south bay, santa cruz mountains, and by 7:00 finally starting to dry out. marin, sonoma, napa. you can put the umbrellas away for a while. rainfall amounts through tonight 1 to 3 inches in the mountains of north bay, tenth to inch lower elevations. and the mild air mass arrives. upper 50s to 60 near antioch today. rain heavy at times throughout the afternoon for everyone. partly cloudy skies monday. and tuesday taking the rain out of wednesday and thursday, even friday. so a chance to dry out. we may look for more rain next weekend. so follow us on twitter. that always gives you great weather information and actually the rain hasn't been too bad out here so far this morning. >> i think you were there trying to hide, lisa. that's what was going on. >> well, maybe. >> okay. we will talk to you later. let's check out sports. tomorrow night the warriors will be back at orual arena trying to rebound from last night's loss in phoenix. here's schu with the highlights of this morning's sports. >> good morning. the warriors in phoenix hosted by the suns who trail golden state by only half a game in the pacific division. david lee and andrew bogut both out with the second straight game with injuries and it showed. this little guy still believing. the great crossover move and one-handed slam. the defense was a problem. three-on-one break. greene throws it down. warriors trail by 4 at the break. 16 at the half from steph curry. phoenix started the third with a 13-2 run. the three. trying to keep his team in it. at 28, the reverse lay-up. warriors down 12 and cut the lead to 2. every time they got close, the suns pulled away. another three. warriors fall to 7th in the west, third in the pacific with the loss. is it just me or is it fun sometimes to see pga professionals suffer?
