to the centers for disease control and prevention people contract the disease by breathing in mist or vapor containing theterbacteria. symptoms resemble pneumonia and can include cough, shortness of breath, muscle aches and headaches. the first cases occurred in 1976 in philadelphia. in the meantime a mold problem shut down the main post office in the city of richmond. it's an 80-year-old building. laura anthony joins us now. customers were surprised there. >> reporter: this post office is pretty pristine on the outside. it was built in 1938. inside there is a health hazard that needs to be cleaned up before it can reopen. >> one by one potential customers approached the front entrance of richmond's main post office only to find it locked up tight. >> the post office closed. >> reporter: the problem, mold found in the basement of the 1930s art deco building, something the postal service determined needed to be cleaned up immediately. left unchecked it can cause health problems and death in extreme cases. they are cleaning up mold. >> i hope they do a good job. >> reporter: customers were directed to two other nearby postal facilities to pick up mail, buy stamps or apply for a passport. >> i guess i have to find another post office. what can i do? >> reporter: would you rather have it cleaned up? >> i would. >> reporter: the work is expected to be finished and a lawyer and plan to ask for up to $5 million in damages. members have retained san francisco civil rights lawyer. he says he plans to meet with the train company next week to talk about a possible financial settlement. members accuse the staff of racial bias. the ceo of the wine train apologized to the group and offered to host the members on another trip for free. a public hearing is being put together for next month on whether to allow a sexually violent predator to move into a home. 51-year-old frazier smith was convicted of sexually assaulting four women. he is in a state hospital. the state wants to move him into a home on amhrs way. local police, the city and the district attorney's office say they oppose this issue. the state previously wanted to move smith into a $3,000 a month fairfield home. >> this morning from uc berkeley police are looking for a man who groped several young girls at a campus swimming pool. investigators released this picture of a man they are looking for. brown hair, medium build and wearing red swim shorts. police say it happened yesterday about 5:45 in the afternoon. the men allegedly swam and grabbed the leg or the rear end and then swam away. san francisco police say a man armed with a handgun tied up a worker and robbed a store. investigators say the man broke into a business on jefferson street about 1:00 a.m. the robber put a gun to an employee's head, made him open the safe and tied him up and ran off with a large amount of cash. tonight the two people accused of shooting a tourist in a busy neighborhood in san francisco are facing attempted murder charges. police say the suspect shot the victim that tied tourists as he was trying to get his stolen camera back near the crooked part of the street. authorities arrested the men after a long chase that went across the bay bridge. the victim is expected to make a full recovery. san francisco police have a life saving tool with them, a drug to help bring people back from the brink of death because of a drug overdose. abc 7 news reporter cornell barnard has the details. >> when i arrived i found this man down on the ground. he was in the middle of the street totally unresponsive. >> reporter: officer recalls the day last june when he saw a suspected drug user who had overdosed. he had been trained to use a virtual antic dote. he demoed the drug on this mannequin. guards are on administrative leave following the death of an inmate. the sheriff's spokesperson tells abc 7 news the guards discovered an unconscious inmate yesterday morning and called for medical help but the inmate died later. the department will not give information as to why the guards were placed on leave during the investigation. your tax dollars are going into a new partnership that will have silicon valley companies and universities helping solve problems for the nation's defense and will create thousands of new manufacturing jobs. david louie joins us with details from a new facility in san jose. >> reporter: cheryl, the new flex tech alliance will be headquartered here in san jose. bringing manufacturing jobs back is a big part of the initiative. the big news is how the defense department is trying to tap into and support a new form of technology. in a way the defense department is using money to be a kind of marriage broker, trying to find high tech solutions to problems and alliance of 96 private companies, 41 universities and others will work on them. and the challenge is to develop and manufacture very thin ships and bagging material for a wide range of applications. this is what we mean by thin and flexible. so it can be wrapped around a tiny catheter. the yellow part contains the chips. >> flexible means it is soft. it means it can be thread through without causing potential damage along the way. >> reporter: the department of defensesis contributing $75 million. 96 million from private tech companies including apple, hp. defense secretary is hoping to usher in a new era of cooperation in which silicon valley can help bolester national defense issues. >> we are drilling tunnels through that wall that sometimes seems to afternoon before the team's third preseason game at the colise coliseum. the future of the silver and black beyond this season in oakland is anything but certain. city leaders are laying groundwork for the first time since 1994. today a news conference was held just off the freeway near the proposed location priced at $1.78 billion. carson partnered with the san diego chargers and oakland raiders both of which unable to secure new stadium deals with the current cities. >> it will be one hell of a stadium. the fans will be crazy. it's going to be big. >> reporter: the mayor is telling all nfl team owners he will vote on the plans there is regional support for a stadium here. >> only god can address the water drought but the city of carson will do its beestto make sure we address
