Reporter the dignitaries that spoke before the players certainly received their share of polite applause from this huge crowd but obviously it was the players these folks came to see, and the players were the ones that received the loudest applause. You have been doing it every two years. Why not try next year. Pitcher Ryan Vogelsong had some fun and turned serious as he took a moment to remember robin williams. They put his voice in the song and i dont know if yall were at game five of the world series, they played it on the scoreboard when he took the team out in the 2010 playoffs. So i loved what he said. And it was just two words. And it hit all of us and we felt it and we felt him with us during this playoffs and it was as simple as this. [ indiscernible ] how nice is that. Abc 7 news anchor, sports anchor mike shumann caught up with several of the world series champion players along the parade route. This is the best. Sharing this joy, sharing this moment with San Francisco is unbelievable. Theres tim hudson, baby. 16 years hes waited for this. Amazing. You knew the weather wasnt going to stop these guys from coming out. Even the rain cant keep the spirits down around here. Incredible. It never gets old. Put it that way. No trace of a parade but it was a great location for some very lucky fans because some of the players got off the buses and took pictures and signed autographs and i got to get on one of the buses and talk with buster posey. It looks like i appeared as if from nowhere but i promise he invited me up. What do you have to say to the fans right now . Thank you. Thank you. Its amazing. Its amazing. Its why we play. Reporter what about your team this year . It was a crazy year, you know . We had ups and downs and came out on top. Reporter while posey stayed on his perch, Ryan Vogelsong got up and personal with fans lining the streets, posing for selfies and signing autographs. Like posey, vogelsong told me its all about the fans. I just wanted to get out and say thank you in my own way because they drive us every night. Even though they dont get to put on the uniform, they inspire us. Reporter lots of fans went to Great Lengths to be here, braving the rain and for some, an early wakeup call. I woke up this morning and theyre like lets go, giants fans, like in half an hour. Reporter dont worry, they rallied. Not everyone in the parade is a familiar face but its a moment in the spotlight for people who worked at at t park like bill, who has been selling souvenirs there since 1961. I couldnt be a ball player so i get to be at the stadium every day. Reporter with confetti swirling everywhere, its easy to feel like king of the world. But the loudest screams came for Madison Bumgarner and manager bruce bochy who proudly posed with the world series trophy. Just one quick note on the weather. I talked with one woman who was up with her family from san jose. She said she hates the rain and would only stand in it for hours for her giants. But you know, in the end, the parade really kind of dodged that bullet. It never really downpoured as long as the parade was in progress. Katie marzullo, abc 7 news. Thank you. Even metallica was at the parade. They are big fans. The giants have had two metallica nights at at t park. For some, it was about the memoribilia. Look at this hat. She has been collecting buttons since she was a little girl t hat weighs more than six pounds. I was going to retire in 2010 but they won the world series so i couldnt. Then when they won the world series again, i couldnt do it again. Then this year, no way, man. This is it. The exact weight is what . Well, i lost a few pins i didnt put back on so 6 3 4 pounds. Tiring after wearing that all day. The crowd went wild as the panda, pablo sandoval, crossed market and montgomery street. A few minutes later, world series mvp pitcher Madison Bumgarner drew even more cheers. He was such a hero during the final game particularly. At one inspired moment, abc 7 News ReporterAmy Hollyfield grabbed Michael Morse by the hand and took him to the fans. Reporter mind if i walk you over to your fans . They really want to see you. He threw out a few dozen high fives and joined several fans for photos before hopping back on his bus. Thank you, amy. Good idea. San francisco really knows how to party and clean up after a party. There was a big crowd still leaving the parade for the civic center rally when the cleanup started before they even got out of there. Thats right. Thanks to a very Efficient Department of public works, tonight thousands of fans are trying to head home. Abc 7 News Reporter vic lee joins us with more on that. Reporter well, as you can see behind me, there is more traffic here on montgomery and market. We are also told that there are more riders at the montgomery b. A. R. T. Station. What we have not seen is the crunch of riders there and that may be because a lot of people left early, as soon as the parade left their vantage point. B. A. R. T. Was gearing up today to carry hundreds of thousands of people. They also ran their rush hour service all day using all available trains. They also had 100 extra workers at b. A. R. T. Stations to help riders. Now, other transport agencies also tried to meet the parades demand. Muni added six metro shuttles. The ferries at larkspur were leaving as soon as they were filled. But now it looks like a perfect storm for some problems this evening. You know, the ceremonies ending so late, certainly does not help things. There is Critical Mass here in the city tonight, that usually starts at about 6 00. That means a lot of bicyclists on the streets of San Francisco. Its also halloween. That means a lot of people mostly at the castro district. Basically, its going to i think be a pretty bad commute but heres an interesting tidbit. B. A. R. T. Announced earlier today that they had 20 fewer passengers this morning than they did in 2012 and i believe that is the year that they broke their record for passenger load. Vic lee, abc 7 news. We were celebrating the arrival of the rain that we got and it came down pretty good. Earlier in the morning, before the parade started. Let me show you live doppler 7 hd. I have to tell you out here, there is definitely a chill in the air and our radar on mount st. Helena still tracking some rain although it has lightened up quite a bit in the east bay from fremont excuse me, milpedas to livermore. You can see we are getting light rain, campbell. Then towards the monterey bay, it is coming down in monterey. 73 inch of rain so far. As i take you down to street level, you can see carmel and seaside are getting pounded here. The loop shows you the rain moving in from the south and pushing northward. We will continue to see some of the heavier returns around the monterey bay. Rain totals impressive in san jose, over half an inch so far. 29, oakland. 37 in half moon bay. About. 22 San Francisco. Livermore, half an inch. What happened to a plane that was supposed to take tourists into space. Plus, world series parade coverage continues with more sights and sounds from today. It wasnt just this years team celebrating the big win. This reminds me when we first came here. It was great. It was amazing. Crazy to think about it. Orange and black all the way. Absolutely. One pilot was killed and another seriously injured when a Virgin Galactic spacecraft exploded during a test flight over the Mojave Desert today. The faa says the experimental spaceship two had just separated from a jet plane that took it airborne when it burst into flames after firing its rocket loader. One pilot parachuted out and rescue workers could be seen carrying at least one person away on a stretcher. Virgin galactics spaceship two is slated as the first Space Tourism rocket. Authorities say an Illegal Drug Lab may be responsible for a massive explosion that rocked a walnut creek apartment building. A witness took some smartphone video shortly after the first explosion of the building that was a sixplex on sunnyvale avenue. Two residents suffered critical burns. A third person is still not accounted for. You can see the damage there. Neighbors heard the blast and ran for their lives. Woke up with noise and the rattle of it and i heard her yelling at me get out, get out. I saw my neighbor burned all over his body. Pretty horrible. Police say this was not a gas explosion but likely a drug lab possibly making hash oil, a concentrated form of pot. Three units were so badly damaged they will likely be redtagged. Alameda county dropped criminal charges against a suspect in last months string of arson fires in alameda. Prosecutors say they simply dont have enough evidence to support charges against 27yearold steven peterson, who was released from jail two weeks ago. Prosecutors are Going Forward with felony arson charges against the other suspect, 22yearold andrew gutierrez. A california Highway Patrol officer has resigned after being charged with secretly forwarding himself nude pictures from a cell phone. The woman he arrested for drunk driving. He shared the explicit pictures with two other officers. Those officers are not being charged by the contra costa district attorney. Harrington told authorities stealing nude pictures is a game among officers at the dublin chp office and says he has been doing it for several years. A man wanted for assaulting a San FranciscoPolice Officer is in the hospital tonight. The incident began when officers tried to stop a car. The suspect hit one of the officers with his car, then took off. Police chased the car for about six blocks until it crashed into another car near geary and stanger around 3 30 today. Three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The officer had only minor injuries as well. Glad to say. Returning now to the giants world series celebration, some fans who ignored the advice to take mass transit drove into San Francisco and were met with an unexpected surprise. They found parking. Check out this lot just south of market. Who would have thunk it. Employees there say regular financial district workers didnt show up today and that left plenty of space for fans who drove, especially if they arrived early. It was pretty light. We left at 8 00, so it only took about a half hour. Did you have any problem finding parking . No. No. It was no problem at all. Pretty easy for people. The demand was so light, parking stayed at its regular rate at most lots. Compare that to the parking prices around at t park during the world series games. They skyrocketed to about 140 a day. San Francisco Mayor ed lee found a bit of a Silver Lining in the rain that fell throughout the parade. Abc 7 News ReporterAmy Hollyfield caught up with him and the mayor told her he thinks the giants championship is a good omen for something equally important. Three in five years. I cant believe it. Were in a dream. Reporter what about this weather . Did you have any second thoughts . You know my first thought . I think the giants world series win is ending the california drought. Thats what im thinking. Absolutely. As the mayor was saying, we desperately needed todays rain but it did create a few problems for drivers in the north bay. The chp says there were a lot of spinouts and accidents. Heres one of them youre looking at. This truck slipped over into a ditch on highway 101 near river rode in sonoma county. No one was injured. On highway 12, a truck slid off the highway 12 offramp on to the mud and grass in santa rosa. No one hurt there either. Meteorologist sandhya patel with a look at the weather. Sandhya, we needed every drop. Hope it makes a difference. Lets hope it does. As of right now, at least we got a decent storm and only half of it is through. We still have the other half to go. Its a regulation baseball covered in gold and studded with diamonds to create the giants logo. It was made by San Francisco jeweler Sidney Mobell who designed a giants cap. He threw out the ceremonial first ball at a game last year. People say to me you mean you threw out that gold ball with the diamonds . I said absolutely. It didnt hurt anything. Nobody hit it. Its a good thing, right . The ball wasnt damaged. He says he will donate it to the smithsonian which has several of his other creations. The ball is on display in union square. Really pretty. I dont think i can take watching somebody throw that, though. A giant parade, it is halloween. How do you top that . Because we have i dont know what to celebrate. Everything. Just everything.
