She had a japanese divorce decree she wanted to enforce here in alameda county. The emailer said her husband owed her 933,000 in a divorce settlement. Hes only paid half of it. And while shes in japan, her exis over here in berkeley. And so she wanted to know if she could retain my service toss enforce this judgment. Seemed logical, especially when she said here are the Japanese Court documents. A divorce decree and a settlement agreement. She said this was her passport. I looked at all the documents. I looked at the email. I emailed her back and said thank you very much. He sent her a retainer agreement and told her he had to speak with her by phone. Enforcement of a foreign divorce degree is not a routine matter, and its in the simple. She replied, sag she was traveling and couldnt find time to talk by phone. However, her exhusband had just agreed to cooperate and pay the money. So she said what i would like to do is i would like to average to have him send you the money to hold in your trust account. He insisted they speak by phone but the elusive client replied that her daughter had fallen deathly ill. She needed the money from her exhusband right away. A few days later i received a Federal Express envelope. Inside was a cashiers check, a chase Bank Cashiers check in the sum of 497,000. A note inside the envelope cold him to deposit the check, subtract his Attorney Fees and wire the rest to akimikoch. Several flags went off. Someone who has never spoken to me suddenly sends me a check for that amount . It didnt pass the smell test. If cosh had deposited the worthless check and wired money, it would have been his own money going directly to the scammers. An internet search shows dozens of lawyers have received the very same phony plea for help from the known any akimo koch. Thats why he contacted me. I could have stood it lose a lot of money so i think the public needs to be made aware. If you receive a check you did not expect and you are asked to wire some of it back, its almost certainly a scam. This weekend with the sunny skies, the mild conditions, perhaps you are going to head to the beach. But do be careful. Very dangerous out there. Heres High Pressure sitting offshore in the upper levels of the atmosphere. It will build in to the north and that sets up the offshore flow. Once that goes away by monday the temperatures begin to drop and by late tuesday this drops to the south and that will bring much cooler temperatures and hopefully some measurable rain around here. So it looks like tuesday night into wednesday we will see the increasing clouds and then the rain, maybe a quarter inch to half third of an inch. This takes us through thursday. But we are looking at more wet weather along the north coast. Of course, as it gets closer, we will have a better idea how much we can expect. We got to go along as stew spectacular birds got a Second Chance at life. Heres dan ashley are the story. Great horned owls are critical to the environment. A picks predators at the top of the food chain. Sometimes even owls need help and thats where lake tahoe wildlife comes in. Today is release day for two owls that would not have survived without this rescue center, run by cheryl and tom milmam. Hes very upset because hes not used to being held. This feisty fellow was brought in by bird lover rob lowry, who found the owl lying helpless on the ground when it was just a chick. He was a little white ball of fluff and his eyes were still closed. He was probably no more than a couple weeks old. The owl has been at lake tahoe wildlife care since spring, growing up in a giant enclose where it can fly around and learn to be a wild bird. The center also cares for a wide variety of other animals, all injured and all being raised to return to the life that nature intended. A few months after the Great Horned Owl arrived, it was joined by another, slightly older owl. This one was so severely injured, the eye had to be removed. Its now fully recovered and ready for freedom. First they have to catch it. Here she comes. This is a precision operation by a team that knows what its doing. Confident the owl can make it in the wild. Its okay to release a oneeyed owl because they focus their eyes independently of each other and they hunt mainly with their ears. Their ears are huge underneath their feathers. Theres nothing wrong with its other critical hunting tool, the tallons. Both owls are driven to a save spot for release. Volunteers help with the big moment. There he goes. First the oneeyed owl makes a beeline for the trees. But the younger owl lands in a field, still trying to handle the big outdoors. Man who rescued him is here to root him on, grateful for the expert help that led to this moment. Theres so many interactions between humans and animals, one way or another they get hurt. Its good there are places out there that animals can have the Second Chance. Isnt that beautiful . Look at that. Dan ashley, abc7 news. The lake tahoe wildlife care has helped more than 24,000 animals over the last 37 years. They are hoping to move to larger facility. If you can help theres a link at abc7news. Com. I know they are preparing, they are doing the hiring fares up in lake tahoe for the ski season. No snow yet but is there a possibility next week . There is. Maybe above 7,000 feet wednesday and above that the forecast models are not agreeing. We could get wet again. Its all beginning. A definite feel to autumn this morning with temperatures in the 40s in the north bay. We are back to october weather. 6 389 sun sets. Thats 11 hours 23 minutes of daylight. Low fog and clouds are widespread this morning but they wont last long. An early burn off. But where we have them the visibility is reduced. Good morning San Francisco, 56 here. 60 at the airport. 55 san jose. Half moon bay 55 degrees. We are looking at visibility down to a quarter mile santa rosa and napa with some cool 40s. 47 there and 57 out by the delta. Its clear here with the southwest wind and in concord as well 57, cloudy, and sfo no delays right now. It will be a warm to mild day here and much of the peninsula will warm up today with increasing fire danger overnight tonight to the north. East bay hills and santa cruz mountains. But a chance. Rain tuesday into wednesday. So the winds really going to kick up anywhere from 30 to 50 miles an hour above is 1,000 feet that. Allows the relative humidity to really decrease anywhere from 8 to 18 all throughout these areas right on through monday. So, of course, very dangerous conditions and very dry conditions over the next couple of days. Do be careful out there. With that we also have a beach hazard statement. Large northwesterly swells, anywhere from 11 to 13 feet by this afternoon right on through sunday night. A lot going on this weekend with High Pressure building in to the north of us. That sets up a tight Pressure Gradient and then the winds kick up. Although we like it warm, we also need the rain and we have that on tap too ortiz late tuesday into wednesday. Right now amounts dont look too impressive and we are still looking at the warm air in the sacramento valley, as well, and the sierra nevada. So 70s here. Mid80s for yosemite. Low 60s in los angeles. So in terms of that wet weather from tuesday into wednesday, here it is. There is the front. It loses some of its oomph as it slides to the south. You is see the north bay and parts of San Francisco tuesday into wednesday looking at the best chances of rain and temperatures much cooler. We are above normal today but that bodes well for the blue angels. A little breezy, upper 60s right through 5 00 in the afternoon. If you are head today cal this afternoon for the game, 71 degrees at 3 00. So a mild day there. And finally in st. Louis, lots of clouds. Doesnt look like its going to rain. We will call it mostly cloudy, 57 at game time. Back home 75 in oakland, 82 san jose, as well as santa rosa today. 76 on the peninsula and san mateo. Today a warmup. Sunnier conditions. Tomorrow windy with a red flag warning through monday. 90s inland. Low relative humidity and then we will see the chance of showers tuesday, wednesday, wedd at this point partly cloudy thursday and friday but that could change. Pretty exciting. It is exciting. Be extra careful with the winds because the fire denger is so high. Thank you, lisa.
