out for you in a few minutes. >> thank you, lisa. the wet weather is causing problems around the bay area. the biggest issues are in the north bay. take a look at this rockslide. large boulders came crashing down near sir francis drake boulevard yesterday. and a flash flood warning is issued and 101 and schellville is expected to be reopened this morning due to flooding. abc7 news reporter has more from the north bay. >> reporter: the flooded-out intersection didn't stop a few drivers from trying to get through. this person finally realized it was a bad idea and turned around. chp officers said it is one of the biggest dangers when it rains. >> there's a lot of standing water so what we want to do is have people avoid the standing water. you don't know when is inside of it, the depth and you don't know how your vehicle will react. >> this happened during the afternoon flash flood warning. a flash flood watch throughout the north bay remains in effect. the deluge of rain caused a series of problems throughout the north bay. parts of tanglewood park were under water because a near buy creek overran it's banks. standing water here caused a stretch to be shut down just in case. and we talked with one resident as he shored up his home withstand bags. >> happy to see the rain. a little bat of work to do, but all in all it's going to benefit our stuff in the house because it's not going to get wet and ruined. >> down the way, marin county, the creeks looked full but didn't seem that they would overflow. abc7 news. take a look at the damage the rain left behind on this stretch in sonoma county yesterday. half the street is gone. road crews arrived to see the two-lane highway reduced to one. >> down below there was one vehicle this was inundated by the rockslide from fort ross road ments. >> you can make out the roof of a truck that got swept away in the slide and remains buried in thick, heavy mud rock. more severe storm damage, this time in san francisco's russian hill area. a large tree was uprooted just after 9:00 last night on columbus street. look what it did to this toyota core rola parked right besides it. that car was crushed. in mill really a massive tree at the mill valley golf course split in three and one of the pieces came down over glen drive. it snarled up the only street into and out of the neighborhood. crews worked quickly to try to clean up that mess. people were preparing for the storm all over the bay area yesterday. lots of sand bigs were handed out from the north by to the south bay. in oakland they are making bags available to residents and businesses to help prevent flooding. and umbrellas were popping up everywhere on san francisco's embarcadero. the wet weather did not keep the shoppers and tourists away from the ferry building. now the last time the santa cruz mountains saw rain was back in october and then only a quarter inch. that was certainly not the case yesterday. abc7 news reporter john always stood has more from the santa cruz mountains. >> reporter: a noticeable amount of water is finally cascading into the san lorenzo river in felton but it's still not enough to mick a difference. they are used to a lot worse. >> normally it gets trashed. limbs down, trees down, all kinds of crazy stuff. >> but that's as crazy as eats gotten for enough do damage. >> sky light a leaking, ruined some electronic equipment but i'm happy to see it. so happy to be here in santa cruz county. >> it's much-needed but this is nothing. >> this is just the tip of the iceberg. >> i just don't want people to get fooled that we've got a little bit of rain so people start using water a lot more. we are still in a drought. >> heavier rain is expected for sunday. in the santa cruz mountains, john alston, abc7 news. >> viewers are sending us their pictures of the storm. this is glen trying to keep the drains clear on hidden valley road in guerveville. you know crews trying to clear debris on roadways covered with water. all of the water created problems for crews in mills borrow last night after a water main broke. the six-inch line was last late last night. pg&e has been struggling with power outages. 350 customers on the peninsula are currently without power. in the north bay more than 2200 customers are in the dark, as well as 869 customers in the east bay. the south bay is not report any outages. in the sierra it's snow slowing down travel along some of the roadways there. this is a live always tran camera on interstate 80. drivers are required to carry chains on interstate 80. chains are also required on highway 50 from twin bridges to meyers in eldorado county. the snow is great news for tahoe area ski resorts. this is video sent to us yesterday by northstar. elevations hills last night. authorities say someone found the license plate on b. rdeck drive. authorities say the license plate matches a 1999 white ford have been with the words "maximum security" on the sides of the vehicle. police say they are concerned criminals may use the van to do what criminals do, illegal activity. another problem has been discovered on the new eastern span of the bay bridge. the san francisco chronicle reports caltrans recently found rainwater dripping into the skilled bridge structure below the deck. that structure was designed to be water tight and the i don't know example is saying outside metal experts say it could pose a risk of corrosion on the bridge. well, it does continue to rain. right now what's happening? let's check in with lisa argen. >> carolyn, i'm write the letter? dillon, now 28, spoke out after the director was honored at this year's golden globes. she described in details alleged sexual abuse in the attic of her home at age 7. he denied it. the attic is never a place i would go because i'm a tinien lacrossed spot and i'm a claw phone. for years he accused them of manipulating their daughter out of spite. a charge the mother denies. >> my and florida. this morning equal rights advocates are hailing a historic announcement on same-sex marriage. speaking to the human rights campaign gill law last night, u.s. attorney general eric holder announced he will extend the federal government's recognition of same sex marriages to the justice department. holder said he would issue a policy memo tomorrow instructing his employees to give lawful same-sex marriages full and equal recognition. >> allful these steps forward are worth celebrating. i also want to make one thing very clear. for my colleagues, for me, and i know for all of you, it is really only the beginning. >> the change means same sex spouses cannot be compelled to testify against each other in federal court and will be able to file jointly for bankruptcy. you know coalition is looking to enact one of the highest minimum wage rates in the nation. a proposed ballot measure would increase oakland's minimum wage from eight dollars an hour to $12.25. it would guarantee five annual sick days for all workers. the council is going to consider the issue in april. for many kids these dis, robots are already familiar figures thanks to games and movies. now bay area start-up wants to use robots to help teach kids a scale that could change their lives. abc7 news anchor carolyn johnson has the details. ♪ >> reporter: this is bo, a robot with a mind of a child. maybe some day -- >> you expos to things and they pick up things much faster than you would imagine. >> bus he is co-founder of play-i, a starter that wants to teach children more than how to play with robots, it wants to teach them to program them as well. >> kids at a very young age, as young as preschool, can grasp programming concepts. >> after first designing the robots, the too came up with behavers that a child would be able to both program and enjoy. the key, they say, was coming up with a simplified version of computer code that younger children could learn and then build upon. the software interface can be run from smartphones and tablets. in this case color-coded dots are sequenced to program the robot to play the xylophone. >> i will go down, go to yellow and hit it again and it's a sequence, that's a program and told the robot what to do. ♪ >> he said in test groups the system worked with children as young as five years old. as kids progressed they can move on to more sophisticated coding, including popular programming languages like java. it's to help kids compete in the world. >> our kids have fallen far behind than other countries schools. and i thought how can we make it fun, exciting and accessible for every child. >> it's a process him and his team believe they can jump start with the help of a freewheeling, xylophone-playing, programmable robot. carolyn weather, up there on the roof to bring you the latest. good morning, lisa. >> good morning. it is misting lightly out here. we have advisories to pass on and we are not done with the rain yet. in fact a final wave of energy, heavy rain moves our way throughout the later afternoon and then we begin to dry out. in the north by a possibility of flooding. until right until 3:00 there's an urban and flood advisory. santa rosa, glen allen. you see the heaviest rain, mount st. helena. taking it further south, san rafael, also showers, as well as over into oakland light showers. we are looking at san francisco where right now it's pretty quiet out there. but still we've had some heavy rain since the overnight hours so the possibility of some of those banks getting awfully full of the streams and clogged roadways. could be a hazard. oakland light shower activity. down in the south bay very little going on and we are looking at a few light showers throughout the santa cruz mountains, davenport and in the sierra nevada we have a winter storm warning. this is through monday. snow and rain mix with the snow level fluctuating throughout the day. nearly 13 inches of rain. that's over a foot. look at san jose. .02. over an in inch concord. oakland .75. and half moon bay nearly 3 inches. doing pretty good, making a dent in the drought, but we have just one more wave to go through. upper 50s san francisco and san jose as well. 55 half moon bay. a few light areas of drizzle in the city. our roof camera with temperatures fairly uniform in the mid-50s. so your forecast highlights, the possibility of just some minor flooding this morning, then again this afternoon with periods of heavy rain. we are drying out tomorrow into tuesday. water vapor imagery shows the before of moisture still offshore. that will come in about 2:00, 3:00 in the afternoon. so not until about 6:00, 7:00 we begin to dry out. here we go throughout the 8:00 hour. notice we are looking at heavier bands of rain pushing through the bay area and then as you go down through the peninsula, 4:00, into the south bay, still wet. it's not really until the overnight hours we are looking at cloudy skies and a chance to dry out. how much more rain? in the north by we could see anywhere from an up. to three inches most likely about an inch. a tenth inch lower elevations and one to two inches in the santa cruz mountains. sierra nevada, you will pick up an additional inch at lake level and gusty southwest winds. the highs today upper others to near 60 with heavy rain at times. showers early but overall partly cloudy monday, tuesday and then the chance of showers comes in wednesday and thursday looking into the north bay. so at this point the models are scaling back. we could be dry through hi, carolyn. good morning to you. we have a little bit of gray, some mist out here. but we are still looking at another wave of energy to head our way. in fact, heavy rain still falling in santa rosa, down toward my way 12. yachtville look at rain, and highway 101 and down through southern marin as well. they have been hit hard the last couple days. a few breaks in the east bay. but the rain extends through mill valley and just south of here into south city. also in the south bay around the santa cruz mountains and just west of gilroy and morgan hill. so for the rest of the day we are looking at hit-or-miss light rain showers in the morning. as we go through the afternoon we will see heavier rain in the north bay, but everyone will see the rain that. includes the south bay and the east bay where your rainfall totals have been very light. by 7:00 the rain ends, pushing from northwest to southeast. we will look for drying skies overnight and, in fact, we may have to wait until next weekend, carolyn torque see more rain. but i'll have my full weather forecast for you in just a few minutes. >> thank you, lisa. because of flooding yesterday, about a mile of highway 121 was blocked off near schellville. that is expected to reopen, they hope, by 7:00 this morning. swollen creeks around the only problem across the north bay, in mill valley a massive tree at the mill valley golf course split in three. one of the pieces came down over glen drive. it snarled the only street into and out of that neighborhood. power was out in the area for several hours. but residents say even with the problems, they are happy for the rain. >> they scare us for the last week saying never again, you know, will we see rain. it's here. >> we definitely need the rain. the nice thing about today is from mill valley and the areas around the bay itself, we had a fairly low high tide earlier today and so that kept the creeks pretty much in check. >> you can see the creek is full there but not overflowing. the rain was a welcome sight in the santa cruz mountains. last time they had any precipitation was back in october when it only saw a quarter inch. despite yesterday's rain, the amount still pales for what the area is used to. it's a small fraction of what it is used to during the rainy season. heavier rain, though, is expected today of. there's lots of water this weekend and viewers are sending us their rain photos. take a look at this flooding. water filling up this field. it's near a barn. and in sonoma viewers sent us this photo of fowler creek rising. we will like you to send us your weather photos at ureport. it is not just the bay area getting hit by a major storm, the entire pacific northwest is impacted. oregon could take the hardest hit. there are ice storm warnings there until 10:00 tonight. it's already caused lots of accidents. here's abc news reporter chuck sievertson. >> in oregon the latest snow meant traffic jams and traffic slams. this wreck was on i-84. the situation isn't expected to improve for the rest of the weekend. authorities tell drivers to stay home or end up like this man. >> just tracks from the back and we are going, going, going, and i couldn't go forward anymore and off the shoulder and i thought, well, let's just leave it here, put our thumbs up and a nurse picked us up. >> as another storm hit the northwest, cars spun, toe trucks worked overtime and sometimes horsepower bass no substitute for manpower. at portland international airport, near white out conditions cancelled 50 flights friday night and the cold, conked out furnaces. >> it kind of felt like what it feels like outside. >> in arkansas dozen of car recollection littered the highways. >> a truck was turned over on its side. >> i saw a cargo off billion. microsoft rounds out the top four. after testing trips across the bay, google will end its ferry service for now. san franciscan cal reports it's unclear whether the tech giant will relaunch the ferry service for its employees. google began a month-long trial run of ferry service from san francisco's ferry build to go redwood city last month. last week they add add five day test run from [ girl ] make dinner pop! what does that first everyospoonful taste likok.ands! honey bunches of oats. ching! mmmm! mmmm! mmmm! wow! it's the oats. honey. yeah. honey bunches of oats. this is a great cereal. >> welcome back. 5:49 on this sunday morning. thank you for waking up early and joining us for the abc7 sunday morning news. this is a live view from the san mateo bridge showing you traffic is relatively light. this might be a good time to kind of get out and about if you can because just a little bit of drizzle, light rain in places, heavier downpours on the way. this is a labor of love in west oakland. a series of murals created by school children that depict the kind of superheroes they would like to see in their community. last week some of those children got to see their ideas come to life for the first time. abc7 news reporter laura anthony was there. >> i love how the instruments started. >> where there once was a drab, gray wall, there are brilliant colors and faces that reflects the community where this 4,000 square photomural is going up in west oakland. >> our landscape has a serious impact on how we think, how we see ourselves and how we treat each other. >> this is the second in a series of superhero murals being painted in a neighborhood this doesn't always see its share of bright colors. the images were the local brainchild of the local children. what they would like to see in their community. this west lake middle school eighth grader came up with the idea for one section. a woman playing a saxophone that wharves into a violin. >> i like music. has music and action. >> there is no superman or spider minnesota on this wall. it features firsts this could very well be from right here in the neighborhood. >> but the paintbrush, leave it in the cup and we are good to go. >> the superheroes also help with some of the background and detail work on the drawing. >> they make drawings, they collaborate with each other about what a strong community superhero would look like, what their special powers would be. >> in all, the oakland city council approved six hurls for west oakland. the professional artists are paid. rest are students and volunteers. in west oakland, laura anthony, abc7 news. love it. and love some of the weather we are getting with the rain. here is lisa argen to give us a full accuweather forecast. are you there, lisa? >> yeah, i'm here, carolyn. how are you. >> hi. >> in the north bay still a small stream flood advisory until 3:00 in the afternoon. once again, they have been particularly hard-hit. but morin -- more rain is on the way for the entire area. highest for the north bay and possibility of street flooding all around the bay and split possibility of wind damage and rockslides. still maybe two to four inches in parts of the highest elevations of the north bay. here's a look at the north by with sonoma is getting heavy rain south of yachtville, near napa. lighter showers here's, san francisco a mist and drizzle until 3:00. we are watching for some of the streets and flooded storm drains to cause in localized problems. the san ramon valley, a few sprinkles. down by san jose things are pretty quiet. also the coastal hills and santa cruz mountains looking at a few light showers n the sierra nevada it's rain, higher elevation snow and the snow level continues to fluctuate throughout the afternoon. but we look at that winter storm warning in just a mommy. first, though, look at this nearly 13 inches are rain around mt. tam. santa rosa over 3 inches. almost 7 .25 mount st. helena. redwood city half an inch. and nearly 3 inches half moon bay. take a look livermore, fremont, san jose, just barely a trace to a ten. in. but more is on the way for you this afternoon. 5856 los gatos, half moon bay in the mid-50s. pretty mild again. temperatures are mild and the snow level continues to rise in the sierra nevada. 56 in napa, 57 in livermore. so your forecast highlights, we tucked about the possibility of some minor flooding in north bay this morning through the afternoon for everyone as that next and final wave of energy hits us. dry for monday and tuesday. here's a look at the water vapor imagery. it's kind of like a fire hose being pointed right at the north bay. so the energy has been to the north. we've had the rain shadow effect that's allowed for the east and south bay to escape much of the activity. but in the next hour notice, still looking at the heavy rain, cloverdale, santa rosa. as we bow through the afternoon, that's that second wave that will bring the rain to the east bay. the livermore valley, danville, down toward mountain view and saratoga finally and as it pushes through by 7:00, 8:00, leftover showers south of the bay and we are drawing out for the next 48 hours, possibly longer. so the rainfall potential will be highest north of southern marin. that's sonoma and napa counties. a tenth to an inch elsewhere, lower elevations. so the winter storm warning through 4:00 this afternoon, have to change that to pm, above 7,000 feet. but the snow level fluctuates. it will lower tonight so it will be a rain-snow mix. 57 san francisco, 60 oakland. palo alto 58. and the accuweather seven-day forecast calls for more mild weather tomorrow once the sunshine comes out and we are look at partly cloudy skies on tuesday. next chance of showers looks to be far north perhaps once again in the areas this don't need it. by next weekend, though, everyone can see a little bit of light rain. a better day today in terms of the break for the north bay later on. they can't take much more. but they need more in the east bay and south bay. so we are going to spread it around the by and if you can hang on a few more hours the north bay will get out of the heavy rain. carolyn. >> sounds good. thank you, lisa. let's check out sports. tomorrow night the warriors will be back at oracle arena trying to rebound from last night's loss in folks. here's schu with the highlights. >> good morning. the warriors in phoenix hosted by the suns who trail golden state by only half a game in the pacific division. david lee and andrew bogut both out with the second straight game with injuries and it showed. this little guy still believing. the great crossover move and one-handed slam. the defense was a problem. three-on-one break. warriors trail by 4 at the break. phoenix started the third with a 13-2 run. the three. trying to keep his team in it. at 28, the reverse lay-up. warriors down 12 and cut the lead to 2. every time they got close, the suns pulled away. warriors fall to 7th in the west, third in the pacific with 102, 109 loss. is it sometimes to see pga professional suffers? looking at showers. some slight rain this morning, best chance in the north bay. them we have another shot of rain this afternoon. that will be our lift wave, then we dry out. tonight i'll time it all out for you in a few minutes. >> thank you, lisa. the wet weather is causing problems around the bay area. the biggest issues are in the north bay. take a look at this rockslide. large boulders came crashing down near sir francis drake boulevard yesterday. and a flash flood warning is issued and 101 and schellville is expected to be reopened this morning due to flooding. abc7 news reporter has more from the north bay. >> reporter: the flooded-out intersection didn't stop a few drivers from trying to get through. this person finally realized it was a bad idea and turned around. chp officers said it is one of the biggest dangers when it rains. >> there's a lot of standing water so what we want to do is have people avoid the standing water. you don't know when is inside of it, the depth and you don't know how your vehicle will react. >> this happened during the afternoon flash flood warning. a flash flood watch throughout the north bay remains in effect. the deluge of rain caused a series of problems throughout the north bay. parts of tanglewood park were under water because a near buy creek overran it's banks. standing water here caused a stretch to be shut down just in case. and we talked with one resident as he shored up his home withstand bags. >> happy to see the rain. a little bat of work to do, but all in all it's going to benefit our stuff in the house because it's not going to get wet and ruined. >> down the way, marin county, the creeks looked full but didn't seem that they would overflow. abc7 news. take a look at the damage the rain left behind on this stretch in sonoma county yesterday. half the street is gone. road crews arrived to see the two-lane highway reduced to one. >> down below there was one vehicle this was inundated by the rockslide from fort ross road ments. >> you can make out the roof of a truck that got swept away in the slide and remains buried in thick, heavy mud rock. more severe storm damage, this time in san francisco's russian hill area. a large tree was uprooted just after 9:00 last night on columbus street. look what it did to this toyota core rola parked right besides it. that car was crushed. in mill really a massive tree at the mill valley golf course split in three and one of the pieces came down over glen drive. it snarled up the only street into and out of the neighborhood. crews worked quickly to try to clean up that mess. people were preparing for the storm all over the bay area yesterday. lots of sand bigs were handed out from the north by to the south bay. in oakland they are making bags available to residents and businesses to help prevent flooding. and umbrellas were popping up everywhere on san francisco's embarcadero. the wet weather did not keep the shoppers and tourists away from the ferry building. now the last time the santa cruz mountains saw rain was back in october and then only a quarter inch. that was certainly not the case yesterday. abc7 news reporter john always stood has more from the santa cruz mountains. >> reporter: a noticeable amount of water is finally cascading into the san lorenzo river in felton but it's still not enough to mick a difference. they are used to a lot worse. >> normally it gets trashed. limbs down, trees down, all kinds of crazy stuff. >> but that's as crazy as eats gotten for enough do damage. >> sky light a leaking, ruined some electronic equipment but i'm happy to see it. so happy to be here in santa cruz county. >> it's much-needed but this is nothing. >> this is just the tip of the iceberg. >> i just don't want people to get fooled that we've got a little bit of rain so people start using water a lot more. we are still in a drought. >> heavier rain is expected for sunday. in the santa cruz mountains, john alston, abc7 news. >> viewers are sending us their pictures of the storm. this is glen trying to keep the drains clear on hidden valley road in guerveville. you know crews trying to clear debris on roadways covered with water. all of the water created problems for crews in mills borrow last night after a water main broke. the six-inch line was last late last night. pg&e has been struggling with power outages. 350 customers on the peninsula are currently without power. in the north bay more than 2200 customers are in the dark, as well as 869 customers in the east bay. the south bay is not report any outages. in the sierra it's snow slowing down travel along some of the roadways there. this is a live always tran camera on interstate 80. drivers are required to carry chains on interstate 80. chains are also required on highway 50 from twin bridges to meyers in eldorado county. the snow is great news for tahoe area ski resorts. this is video sent to us yesterday by northstar. elevations hills last night. authorities say someone found the license plate on b. rdeck drive. authorities say the license plate matches a 1999 white ford have been with the words "maximum security" on the sides of the vehicle. police say they are concerned criminals may use the van to do what criminals do, illegal activity. another problem has been discovered on the new eastern span of the bay bridge. the san francisco chronicle reports caltrans recently found rainwater dripping into the skilled bridge structure below the deck. that structure was designed to be water tight and the i don't know example is saying outside metal experts say it could pose a risk of corrosion on the bridge. well, it does continue to rain. right now what's happening? let's check in with lisa argen. >> carolyn, i'm allegationing from his adopted daughter. i loved her. from his marriage to frank sinatra but foremost he accused mia pharaoh of coaching their adopted daughter, then and now. he said did dillon even write the letter? dillon, now 28, spoke out after the director was honored at this year's golden globes. she described in details alleged sexual abuse in the attic of her home at age 7. he denied it. the attic is never a place i would go because i'm a tinien lacrossed spot and i'm a claw phone. for years he accused them of manipulating their daughter out of spite. a charge the mother denies. >> my mother never coached me. she was hoping against hope i made it up abc news, new york. >> a petaluma company is recalling more than 8 million pounds of meat products. the department of agriculture said announced he will extend the federal government's recognition of same sex marriages to the justice department. holder said he would issue a policy memo tomorrow instructing his employees to give coalition is looking to enact one of the highest minimum wage rates in the nation. a proposed ballot measure would increase oakland's minimum wage from eight dollars an hour to $12.25. it would guarantee five annual sick days for all workers. the council is going to consider the issue in april. for many kids these dis, robots are already familiar figures thanks to games and movies. now bay area start-up wants to use robots to help teach kids a scale that could change their lives. abc7 news anchor carolyn johnson has the details. ♪ >> reporter: this is bo, a robot with a mind of a child. maybe some day -- >> you expos to things and they pick up things much faster than you would imagine. >> bus he is co-founder of play-i, a starter that wants to teach children more than how to play with robots, it wants to teach them to program them as well. >> kids at a very young age, as young as preschool, can grasp programming concepts. >> after first designing the robots, the too came up with behavers that a child would be able to both program and enjoy. the key, they say, was coming up with a simplified version of computer code that younger children could learn and then build upon. the software interface can be run from smartphones and tablets. in this case color-coded dots are sequenced to program the robot to play the xylophone. >> i will go down, go to yellow and hit it again and it's a sequence, that's a program and told the robot what to do. ♪ >> he said in test groups the system worked with children as young as five years old. as kids progressed they can move on to more sophisticated coding, including popular programming languages like java. it's to help kids compete in the world. >> our kids have fallen far behind than other countries schools. and i thought how can we make it fun, exciting and accessible for every child. >> it's a process him and his team believe they can jump start with the help of a freewheeling, xylophone-playing, programmable robot. carolyn johnson, abc7 news. play-i is currently taking preorders for the robots which start at $59. it plans to start shipping them later this year. abc7 meteorologist lisa argen is in the middle of the weather, up there on the roof to bring you the latest. good morning, lisa. >> good morning. it is misting lightly out here. we have advisories to pass on and we are not done with the rain yet. in fact a final wave of energy, heavy rain moves our way throughout the later afternoon and then we begin to dry out. in the north by a possibility of flooding. until right until 3:00 there's an urban and flood advisory. santa rosa, glen allen. you see the heaviest rain, mount st. helena. taking it further south, san rafael, also showers, as well as over into oakland light showers. we are looking at san francisco where right now it's pretty quiet out there. but still we've had some heavy rain since the overnight hours so the possibility of some of those banks getting awfully full of the streams and clogged roadways. could be a hazard. oakland light shower activity. down in the south bay very little going on and we are looking at a few light showers throughout the santa cruz mountains, davenport and in the sierra nevada we have a winter storm warning. this is through monday. snow and rain mix with the snow level fluctuating throughout the day. nearly 13 inches of rain. that's over a foot. look at san jose. .02. over an in inch concord. oakland .75. and half moon bay nearly 3 inches. doing pretty good, making a dent in the drought, but we have just one more wave to go through. upper 50s san francisco and san jose as well. 55 half moon bay. a few light areas of drizzle in the city. our roof camera with temperatures fairly uniform in the mid-50s. so your forecast highlights, the possibility of just some minor flooding this morning, then again this afternoon with periods of heavy rain. we are drying out tomorrow into tuesday. water vapor imagery shows the before of moisture still offshore. that will come in about 2:00, 3:00 in the afternoon. so not until about 6:00, 7:00 we begin to dry out. here we go throughout the 8:00 hour. notice we are looking at heavier bands of rain pushing through the bay area and then as you go down through the peninsula, 4:00, into the south bay, still wet. it's not really until the overnight hours we are looking at cloudy skies and a chance to dry out. how much more rain? in the north by we could see anywhere from an up. to three inches most likely about an inch. a tenth inch lower elevations and one to two inches in the santa cruz mountains. sierra nevada, you will pick up an additional inch at lake level and gusty southwest winds. the highs today upper others to near 60 with heavy rain at times. showers early but overall partly cloudy monday, tuesday and then the chance of showers comes in wednesday and thursday looking into the north bay. so at this point the models are scaling back. we could be dry through hi, carolyn. good morning to you. we have a little bit of gray, some mist out here. but we are still looking at another wave of energy to head our way. in fact, heavy rain still falling in santa rosa, down toward my way 12. yachtville look at rain, and highway 101 and down through southern marin as well. they have been hit hard the last couple days. a few breaks in the east bay. but the rain extends through mill valley and just south of here into south city. also in the south bay around the santa cruz mountains and just west of gilroy and morgan hill. so for the rest of the day we are looking at hit-or-miss light rain showers in the morning. as we go through the afternoon we will see heavier rain in the north bay, but everyone will see the rain that. includes the south bay and the east bay where your rainfall totals have been very light. by 7:00 the rain ends, pushing from northwest to southeast. we will look for drying skies overnight and, in fact, we may have to wait until next weekend, carolyn torque see more rain. but i'll have my full weather forecast for you in just a few minutes. >> thank you, lisa. because of flooding yesterday, about a mile of highway 121 was blocked off near schellville. that is expected to reopen, they hope, by 7:00 this morning. swollen creeks around the only problem across the north bay, in mill valley a massive tree at the mill valley golf course split in three. one of the pieces came down over glen drive. it snarled the only street into and out of that neighborhood. power was out in the area for several hours. but residents say even with the problems, they are happy for the rain. >> they scare us for the last week saying never again, you know, will we see rain. it's here. >> we definitely need the rain. the nice thing about today is from mill valley and the areas around the bay itself, we had a fairly low high tide earlier today and so that kept the creeks pretty much in check. >> you can see the creek is full there but not overflowing. the rain was a welcome sight in the santa cruz mountains. last time they had any precipitation was back in october when it only saw a quarter inch. despite yesterday's rain, the amount still pales for what the area is used to. it's a small fraction of what it is used to during the rainy season. heavier rain, though, is expected today of. there's lots of water this weekend and viewers are sending us their rain photos. take a look at this flooding. water filling up this field. it's near a barn. and in sonoma viewers sent us this photo of fowler creek rising. we will like you to send us your weather photos at ureport. it is not just the bay area getting hit by a major storm, the entire pacific northwest is impacted. oregon could take the hardest hit. there are ice storm warnings there until 10:00 tonight. it's already caused lots of accidents. here's abc news reporter chuck sievertson. >> in oregon the latest snow meant traffic jams and traffic slams. this wreck was on i-84. the situation isn't expected to improve for the rest of the weekend. authorities tell drivers to stay home or end up like this man. >> just tracks from the back and we are going, going, going, and i couldn't go forward anymore and off the shoulder and i thought, well, let's just leave it here, put our thumbs up and a nurse picked us up. >> as another storm hit the northwest, cars spun, toe trucks worked overtime and sometimes horsepower bass no substitute for manpower. at portland international airport, near white out conditions cancelled 50 flights friday night and the cold, conked out furnaces. >> it kind of felt like what it feels like outside. >> in arkansas dozen of car recollection littered the highways. >> a truck was turned over on its side. >> i saw a cargo off billion. microsoft rounds out the top four. after testing trips across the bay, google will end its ferry service for now. san franciscan cal reports it's unclear whether the tech giant will relaunch the ferry service for its employees. google began a month-long trial run of ferry service from san francisco's ferry build to go redwood city last month. last week they add add five day test run from [ girl ] make dinner pop! what does that first everyospoonful taste likok.ands! honey bunches of oats. ching! mmmm! mmmm! mmmm! wow! it's the oats. honey. yeah. honey bunches of oats. this is a great cereal. >> welcome back. 5:49 on this sunday morning. thank you for waking up early and joining us for the abc7 sunday morning news. this is a live view from the san mateo bridge showing you traffic is relatively light. this might be a good time to kind of get out and about if you can because just a little bit of drizzle, light rain in places, heavier downpours on the way. this is a labor of love in west oakland. a series of murals created by school children that depict the kind of superheroes they would like to see in their community. last week some of those children got to see their ideas come to life for the first time. abc7 news reporter laura anthony was there. >> i love how the instruments started. >> where there once was a drab, gray wall, there are brilliant colors and faces that reflects the community where this 4,000 square photomural is going up in west oakland. >> our landscape has a serious impact on how we think, how we see ourselves and how we treat each other. >> this is the second in a series of superhero murals being painted in a neighborhood this doesn't always see its share of bright colors. the images were the local brainchild of the local children. what they would like to see in their community. this west lake middle school eighth grader came up with the idea for one section. a woman playing a saxophone that wharves into a violin. >> i like music. has music and action. >> there is no superman or spider minnesota on this wall. it features firsts this could very well be from right here in the neighborhood. >> but the paintbrush, leave it in the cup and we are good to go. >> the superheroes also help with some of the background and detail work on the drawing. >> they make drawings, they collaborate with each other about what a strong community superhero would look like, what their special powers would be. >> in all, the oakland city council approved six hurls for west oakland. the professional artists are paid. rest are students and volunteers. in west oakland, laura anthony, abc7 news. love it. and love some of the weather we are getting with the rain. here is lisa argen to give us a full accuweather forecast. are you there, lisa? >> yeah, i'm here, carolyn. how are you. >> hi. >> in the north bay still a small stream flood advisory until 3:00 in the afternoon. once again, they have been particularly hard-hit. but morin -- more rain is on the way for the entire area. highest for the north bay and possibility of street flooding all around the bay and split possibility of wind damage and rockslides. still maybe two to four inches in parts of the highest elevations of the north bay. here's a look at the north by with sonoma is getting heavy rain south of yachtville, near napa. lighter showers here's, san francisco a mist and drizzle until 3:00. we are watching for some of the streets and flooded storm drains to cause in localized problems. the san ramon valley, a few sprinkles. down by san jose things are pretty quiet. also the coastal hills and santa cruz mountains looking at a few light showers n the sierra nevada it's rain, higher elevation snow and the snow level continues to fluctuate throughout the afternoon. but we look at that winter storm warning in just a mommy. first, though, look at this nearly 13 inches are rain around mt. tam. santa rosa over 3 inches. almost 7 .25 mount st. helena. redwood city half an inch. and nearly 3 inches half moon bay. take a look livermore, fremont, san jose, just barely a trace to a ten. in. but more is on the way for you this afternoon. 5856 los gatos, half moon bay in the mid-50s. pretty mild again. temperatures are mild and the snow level continues to rise in the sierra nevada. 56 in napa, 57 in livermore. so your forecast highlights, we tucked about the possibility of some minor flooding in north bay this morning through the afternoon for everyone as that next and final wave of energy hits us. dry for monday and tuesday. here's a look at the water vapor imagery. it's kind of like a fire hose being pointed right at the north bay. so the energy has been to the north. we've had the rain shadow effect that's allowed for the east and south bay to escape much of the activity. but in the next hour notice, still looking at the heavy rain, cloverdale, santa rosa. as we bow through the afternoon, that's that second wave that will bring the rain to the east bay. the livermore valley, danville, down toward mountain view and saratoga finally and as it pushes through by 7:00, 8:00, leftover showers south of the bay and we are drawing out for the next 48 hours, possibly longer. so the rainfall potential will be highest north of southern marin. that's sonoma and napa counties. a tenth to an inch elsewhere, lower elevations. so the winter storm warning through 4:00 this afternoon, have to change that to pm, above 7,000 feet. but the snow level fluctuates. it will lower tonight so it will be a rain-snow mix. 57 san francisco, 60 oakland. palo alto 58. and the accuweather seven-day forecast calls for more mild weather tomorrow once the sunshine comes out and we are look at partly cloudy skies on tuesday. next chance of showers looks to be far north perhaps once again in the areas this don't need it. by next weekend, though, everyone can see a little bit of light rain. a better day today in terms of the break for the north bay later on. they can't take much more. but they need more in the east bay and south bay. so we are going to spread it around the by and if you can hang on a few more hours the north bay will get out of the heavy rain. carolyn. >> sounds good. thank you, lisa. let's check out sports. tomorrow night the warriors will be back at oracle arena trying to rebound from last night's loss in folks. here's schu with the highlights. >> good morning. the warriors in phoenix hosted by the suns who trail golden state by only half a game in the pacific division. david lee and andrew bogut both out with the second straight game with injuries and it showed. this little guy still believing. the great crossover move and one-handed slam. the defense was a problem. three-on-one break. warriors trail by 4 at the break. phoenix started the third with a 13-2 run. the three. trying to keep his team in it. at 28, the reverse lay-up. warriors down 12 and cut the lead to 2. every time they got close, the suns pulled away. warriors fall to 7th in the west, third in the pacific with 102, 109 loss. is it sometimes to see pga professional suffers?
