carrying her from the hospital a month after a tonsillectomy left her brain dead and called for a death certificate to be issued so she was first released to the core more and to her family. the family believes jahi mcmath can recover and is taking her to a care facility to keep her on a ventilator. a statement says the coroner released her body to 9 custody of her mother as per court order for a destination "unknown." our hearts go to the family as they grieve for this sad situation and we wish them closure and peace. amy hollyfield will have more coming up at 5:30. in the east bay oakland police are investigating a hit-and-run crash in a house. a car hit a gas line located on the side of the home forcing residents to evacuate. it happened after 12:30 this morning. pg&e crews have capped the gas leak allowing residents to go inside with police looking for the driver. the 49ers are back in the california sun and basking in the glory of a great victory over the green bay with a few suspects being searched. the altamont pass is the busy drive westbound at 36 miles per hour. into livermore it is a long ride and to castro valley 47 minutes. this is from the scene of a deadly stabbing in san francisco. police investigated the circumstances that led up to the stabbing inside an apartment building on market street. police responded to the building near the central freeway after 3:15. paramedics say the victim died at the scene and police are not releasing any suspect information at this point. >> we are following developing news where the family of a brain dead 13-year-old girl is now in possession of her body. amy hollyfield tells us what happened and what happens next. >> the hospital released jahi mcmath to her family who found a facility to care for her. this is video of the ambulance carrying her away. the family has been arguing with children's hospital oakland since mid-december about what should happen to her. doctors have declared her brain dead and said she should be taken off the ventillator but the family says her heart is beating and they believe she is alive. the attorney has been getting 200 to 400 e-mails a day many full of threats to him and to jahi mcmath. >> she is going for her own safety and the rights of other people. this is an unusual experience that it brought out the best and worst in people. we have had people make threats. it is sad that people act that way. for jahi mcmath's safety and those around her we will not say where she went or where she is. >> the hospital has released a statement saying "our hearts go out to the family as they grieve for this sad situation and we wish them closure and peace i the coroner has issued a death certificate for december december -- for jahi mcmath but the relatives say all they wanted was a chance. >> the family has a crowd funding page to cover the costs of mooring jahi mcmath to a new natural and they have raised $48,000. looking back, this began december 9 after surgery at children's hospital oakland. after the tonsil operation she went into cardiac arrest and then a scan revealed two-thirds of her brain was swollen. on december 11, the doctors declared her brain dead and the family began a legal fight to keep her on the ventilator which would have expired tomorrow. we will follow this developing story with updates on our website at abc7news.com and
