quiet. san jose shows temperatures inland still warm but it will probably not feel like it at 82 to 87. it will be mild around the bay, but notice the coast, increasing clouds, increasing breezes, and it will be a brisk day at 59 to 64 for you. enjoy it. leyla gulen has the morning commute. >> i do is a couple of accidents to talk about both in the east bay. as we take you over to northbound 880 this is where we have a solo vehicle spinout so in the northbound direction to catch dumbarton you will be met with that accident. we have this off of the dumbarton eastbound 84 at thornton avenue and that is involving a couple of cars blocking one lane there but it looks like everything is moving along just fine. outside right now to our walnut creek drive, 680, away from concord to the 24 junction you can see a few cars but it is still a short nine-minute drive. >> thank you, the bart strike is over and bart workers are getting ready to go back to work, but the unions and management have still not agreed on a new contract. abc7 news reporter is at the lake merritt bart station in oakland. amy? >> good morning, it is over for now. but not for good. for now you will not see picketers at the bart station. the trains will start running again at 3:00 this afternoon. both sides have agreed to a contract tension so it will last for 30 days. the old contract will be in effect. they will continue to negotiate but they still need a new contract. >> the battle is not over. the job is not done. everyone will be working as hard as they have the last few days between now and august 4 to see to it that we have a good contract that pays the worker fairly and keeps the training running on time and improves the bart system. >> teams to both sides packed up and left around 11:00 last night saying it had been a long week. both sides say they are still far apart on issues like salary and pension. you heard what he said they have until august 4 to get that worked out when the extension expires. no one is saying what will happen if he do not have an agreement by then. will there be another strike? they did not want to go there, they are focused on their resolve to get this secretaried -- settled by then. >> bart will still run shuttles and buses this morning. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard is at walnut creek bart with that story. >> we are talking to commuters who were glad to hear the bart trains are rolling again this afternoon. until then folks are grabbing the shuttle buses this morning. thinking east bay man used a garden hose to put out a grass fire burning close to homes in pittsburg. it broke out after 9:15 last night and authorities say several homes were threatened. it took an hour to but the fire out. no word on a cause. neighbors say that the fireworks were going off in that area all night. >> this morning we have new "you report" video of illegal fire works in san francisco. this is in martinez with fires there. and around 9:00 last night there flames that threatened homes in the area and firefighters were able to nobody it down in 15 minute. and here a fire destroyed a house and scorched a tree with flames burning a home just before 6:00 p.m. with the structure's fire putting firefighters in defensive mode. >> i called 9-1-1 and saw family across the street on the lawn and yelled at them, was there anyone in the house they said no one was in the house so i went to the backyard. two blocks away embers from the fire caught a tree on fire and firefighters climb on the roof of the house to get at look at it but no one was hurt in either fire. >> san francisco police officer is being called a hero after rescuing a woman from her smoke-filled apartment. the fire starts on fine street just after 1:30 yesterday afternoon and the officer, the woman he rescued and the firefighter suffered minor injuries. investigators are looking into what sparked the fire. >> bay area law enforcement agencies will be on the lookout for drinking drivers this holiday week. drivers could expect checkpoints at various locations. san francisco police will be running a check point from 7:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m. sunday morning at an undisclosed location. >> we will know by monday if the new span of the bay bridge will open on labor day weekend. published reports say the legislators in sacramento will find out morning of monday and by noon the information will be released. at issue are the bolts made of the same steel as the anchor rod that snapped in march. there will be a public briefing on the latest findings on wednesday. >> volcano in mexico forced the cancellation of dozens of flights, airport officials say the volcano spewed out ash, steam, and glowing rocks. video was captured by a mexican tv network and 40 flights in and out mexico city have been affected. six united states airlines canceled flights. the volcano has been active for the past 36 hours. >> new this morning the vatican announced the late pope john paul ii will be made a saint. the vatican says pope francis approve add second miracle attributed to the pontiff who led the church from 1978 to 2005. at the same time, the church says that pope john 23 who resigned from 1958 do 1963, will also be made a saint. no dates for the ceremonies were immediately given but the danville is 56 for the cool spot. everyone is in the 50's, and pleasanton at 60 and walnut creek at 61 and the high four corridor where it is cooler but still in the upper 60's around pittsburg and antioch. elsewhere, 61 at fairfield and san jose, and 60's in oakland and los gatos and mountain view and everyone else in the mid-to-upper 50's. you will notice the change when you step outside this morning. we will look at the wins, not so fast as last hour and sfo is gusting up to 32 and 18 at oakland but 24 in concord and 29 in fairfield which is the fast wind bringing in the cooler weather. 60's at the coast. now the morning traffic. we have one accident and this is in newark which has been moved. first, though, we go to the altamont pass with top peeds from tracy at 24-minute commute and the accident we reported that northbound 880, a second accident on 84 in the eastbound direction, and they were one and the same accident and the correct location according to c.h.p. is northbound strike. more than 5,000 workers took part in the strike early this week after union representatives say they were facing a 10 percent pay cut. >> three, officials in southern california are investigating a fireworks accident that injured at least 28 people at a big show that happened with fireworks malfunctioning and exploded near or on ground at a community part last night in simi valley with the victims suffering moderate to minor injuries. >> marin county fire crews knocked down a two acre fire on mount tamalpais this morning early after flames were spotted around 9:30 last night. firefighters are keeping an eye on the scene right now to make sure nothing reignites. >> the parade of america's cup kickoff following opening day starting on sunday and will go on all summer alternate to bart for a while. bart and the unions have agreed to a 30 day cooling off period with coverage starting with abc7 news amy hollyfield at lake merritt bart. >> you start off with good news and bad news. the good news is the strike is over for now. behind me, you can see nothing. no picketers, the strike is over. the bad news is they did not reach an agreement. they do not have a new contract. here is what you need to know, the highlights from overnight. the trains will start running again today at 3:00 this afternoon. you can catch a bart train at 3:00. the two sides have 30 days to negotiate their old contract being in affect for now which they do not like. the mediators pushed for the extension. they say they are determined to reach a new contract in the next month. >> the current contract is extended until august 4. parties the continue to negotiate as hard as they are now. as long as necessary to reach an agreement on a new contract. the contract will be retroactive to july 1. >> the two sides packed up and left the table at 1:00 last night calling it a "long week." they still have a long way to go. both sides say they are still far apart so they have tough discussions ahead of them of the while they talk, the trains will be running and that is a win for the bay area. >> union negotiators complained of a perceived lack of involvement from bart general manager would was at the bargaining session and she spoke after and thanked the state mediators for hammering out this resolution. early in the day the union lowers held a rally to demand she become more active in the negotiations. the signs in the background with her picture read "where's grace." this morning should be the last commute without bart because trains will be running. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard at walnut creek bart station where commuters will board buses for the fifth morning. >> we are talking to commuters this morning who are happy to hear the bart trains will, again, be rolling. until then they are grabbing the shuttle buses this morning into san francisco like they have been doing all week. a lot people say the strike has left them stressed out, worried about getting to worry. they hope a contract extension does not mean bart workers will be on strike again in 30 days. >> hopefully they will come up with some sort of a permanent resolution for the contract because in 30 days it is that time that passes by we will be back to square one again. >> i feel like i could have done that in the first place, why strike and then agree to come back? i am thankful for the buses, though. >> seven shuttle buses now boarding from the east bay station el cerrito, walnut creek, west oakland and fremont, first come first serve like it has been all week. the buses will not be providing a return trip back to the east bay because bart strain -- trains will be rolling again. >> time to check the traffic. leyla gulen, has the weather. >> good morning, everyone. we will see bart back on track at 3:00 p.m. today but that does not help anyone who needs to make it to work this morning. what we do have on bay bridge, in the eastbound direction we have one stalled car beyond the s-curve and that is causing a bit of slowing approaching treasure i'll. along in the westbound direction starting to see a buildup of traffic and outside to the bay bridge toll plaza the traffic is building, especially in the cash-paying lanes and we do have -- we will look at san jose 101 to the airport from 880. we will have the bayview bridge in a bit but, it is breezy and chilly and mike nicco has the forecast. >> the breezes are back. the winds are change are coming. live doppler 7 hd shows it is dry this morning and you can see a few clouds trying to spill across san francisco from the chest as we look from the camera this morning. it will be warm inland and probably will not feel like it but the temperatures will be because we have been seven days in a row with some neighbors in the 100's and around the bay it will be mild, 67 in san francisco, to 72 in oakland, and 78 in san jose, but look at the coast, you missed the window of opportunity to go there where it was warm, calm, and sunny. it will be cloudy, breezy and cool today at 59 to 64. now more news with katie and eric. >> oakland city workers would returned to the bargaining table after a one day strike. 5,000 worker took part in the day-long strike that lasted until monday evening. union representatives say city workers were facing a possible 10 percent pay cut with pickets lines over unfair labor practices according to them and bad faith bargaining. city services were back to normal on tuesday and negotiations continue today and resume on monday. >> the bart strike did not keep tens of thousands from making their way from the acquatic park, although it reduced the people from the east bay many were hard pressed to find a good spot to view the fireworks. >> this is the largest crowd, i think, the largest crowd. that is interesting with the bart strike going on. the east bay people did nut come is the san francisco people did come. >> the people who did drive in from the east bay to see the fireworks say there was very little traffic on the roads. >> long after the organized fireworks shows you could hear the illegal fireworks booming in oakland. we got this video of east oakland after 9:00, and the oakland police had extra police to curb the use of fireworks and looking for people who fired guns into the air which is very dangerous. "shot spotter" technology can identify the location of a gunshot within seconds and alert the police officers who are nearibility. >> investigators in southern california are looking into the cause of a malfunction at a fireworks show that injured dozens of people. whoa. whoa. whoa. whoa. my god. my god. whoa. >> sounds scary. a number of firework shells exploded on the ground two minutes into the show in sime valley with people scattering in all directions at a community park. 20 people went to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries. a bomb squad was called in to deat separate the remaining fireworks. >> firefighters knocked out a two acre fire at mount tamalpais this morning. we were above the scene after flames were spotted at 9:30. the fire started on the east side of mount tamalpais with crews responding aggressively with a lost potential fuel in the woods there. firefighters are keeping an eye on seen to make sure nothing reignites and an investigation is underway to determine the cause. >> fire officials are investigating a two alarm grass fire that burned 50 acres in pittsburg that broke out after 9:15 near bending willow road with no homes threatened and the fire was under control by 10:30. >> firefighters urge contra costa county officials to reconsider the closing of a pittsburg fire station. station 87 is set to close on monday. the district says a budget deficit and declining property taxes are to blame. firefighters are asking the county supervisors to look at the budget. monday it was announced the property values rose by almost $5 billion everyone, the temperatures compared to 24 hours ago, ten degrees cooler in concord; 15 in live more, and ten in hayward and everyone else around six, seven, eight degrees cooler. here they are, 50's and a few 60's like oakland and mountain view and 61 if san jose and fairfield and 64 in antioch but concord and san ramon and livermore, 58, 57, you can on the windows the town off the air heat is missing from the forecast, 60 at the coast at 4:00 to 84. the next three days, coit tower is showing temperatures cooler tomorrow but we will rebound on mound and monday with morning clouds giving way to afternoon sunshine. enjoy the change. good morning to you, we have a brand new accident approaching 580 in san rafael involving one car that went over an embankment and through a fence, northbound 101 we do not have delays in the southbound direction through san rafael and toward sausalito and over the bridge. we have a stalled car long the eastbound side of the bay bridge and it is still blocking a lane beyond the s curve and you can see how it is causing delays and we are seeing more traffic moving along in the westbound direction. if we did have our bay bridge toll plaza we have more traffic starting to build from emeryville to san francisco as you approach the cash-paying lanes. >> next the latest on the investigation into a deadly falling tree at a summer camp near yosemite and who the sheriff says was charged with monitoring the tree. >> and kicking off the start of the america's >> covering walnut creek, burlingame, campbell and all the bay area, this is abc7 the forecast coming up. >> happening now the labor department released the latest jobs report a short time ago. the unemployment rate remains unchanged last month at 7.6 percent, 195,000 jobs were created. investors will watch how that affects the storm and we will have a report from the new york stock exchange at 6:45. >> the mother of a bay area survivor is speak out after her daughter's coworker was killed when a tree fell on a group of people at camp tawonga. four other adults were hurt but month children were harmed. one of the injured is 18-year-old from redwood citying breaking her elbow and five ribs. the family says she will be released from the hospital today. >> she has been very positive. anyone who knows her would not be surprised. >> the sheriff says pg&e was responsible for checking the tree because it was located near power lines. pg&e claims they found no obvious sign of decease or decay and the utility called the tragedy "a freak accident." a broken water main forced the closing of several streets in down danville around 6:00 p.m. last night. police closed from prospect to railroad avenue. side streets are also off limits so watch out in that area. water coming from the broken main has stopped and crews are on the scene clearing debris. until then, residents are urged to avoid the area. >> the state department is paying the price literally for facebook "likes." catching heat after an inspector general report found that it spent $630,000 on campaigns to increase the department facebook fans saying that the advertising campaign worked with the department english pages alone increasing from 100,000 fans to two million in two year years. some say the department was "buying fans." a soggy fourth of july after a water main break flooded their homes. this is video shot by a resident in the monterey heights area showing water rushing from a neighbor's house down the hill into his backyard. the water department says it was caused by a rupture in an 8" pipe. >> the parade of america's cup boats signals the final countdown to the start of competition. the village at pier 27 began getting ready with restaurants and radar and satellite shows the clouds along the cost are spilling across the bear and it is dry this morning. the winds on san francisco bay and delta communities this afternoon through 8:00 and it is small craft advisory for southwest winds that could get up to 20 to 30 knots and the winds are from the northwest at 15- to 25-knots and lasting until 2:00 tomorrow morning. beautiful picture from our camera of the clouds and we will keep an eye on sfo and see if they create arrival delays if you have friends for the weekend. now, what will happen. two words: it is over. the highs drop dramatically today, 6 to 16 degrees because of the breezes which will bring clouds and brick conditions to the weekend. it will be much cooler than it has been the last couple of days, even at coast and near average temperatures hanging around for the better party of the seven-day outlook. at the president reagan bridge this morning the clouds have not made it here but they will headed through the morning and early afternoon. oakland drops six degrees to 72. san jose, fremont and concord has the biggest drop at 12 to 16 degrees. no more 100's in the forecast and no more 90's. the cloud cover is moving through the only commute. the fog is moving across the president reagan bridge headed to angel island and berkeley and oakland in the afternoon. temperatures in the extreme areas are 20 degrees cooler than yesterday. we will start in the south bay where we will be 78 in san jose after being 90 yesterday and warmer around los gatos and morgan hill and santa cruz, sunshine and only 74 degrees today. low-to-mid 70's on the peninsula in redwood city and menlo park at 75 but the coast is 61 at half moon bay and brick and cloudy 59 in pacifica and downtown south san francisco upper 60's and
