coming our way. it's swinging through western oregon and the northwestern corner of california. it ranks on the impact scale which we use to indicate the impact and intensity of every storm. this ranks number 2 which is a moderate storm. it will be in full force tomorrow bringing .5 inches to an inch of rain. here's the forecast animation. at that point we'll have light rain developing in the north bay. by 4:00 a.m., an area of moderate to heavy rainfall pushing through the north bay with lighter rainfall in the south and east bay and down into the peninsula. by 7:00 a.m., messy, messy commute. especially for the north bay. the central part of the bay area at that time. by 9:00 a.m., that wide path of moderate to heavy rainfall will be moving through the central part of the bay area pushing down to the south bay, out to the east bay. accompanied by strong gusty wind. not only in the morning but the evening as well. as the rain tapers off in the north bay by midday tomorrow, it will be raining in full force on the peninsula. finally, we'll see the system breaking up a lit bit and moving out of the bay area late tomorrow night. we won't be out of the woods yesterday. there's another storm on the weekend. i'll have that forecast and the rainfall totals in a few minutes. >> thank you so much, spencer. >> spencer mentioned the north bay several sometimes f times. let's go to the north bay and laura anthony checking in with crews preparing for this first big storm. laura? >> reporter: hi dan. the folks have put out a nice sand pile for the residents. so far not too many people have taken any. they expect traffic to pick up considerably by tomorrow. with the first significant rains of the fall headed for the bay area, pg and e hired tree crews. >> we're doing that by examining and trimming back branches getting close to our lines. we're also looking for dead or dying branches and removing those so they don't fall into our lines. >> there's a lot of old trees here. >> scott mckinley lives in mill valley below the free work. he has a healthy respect for what sick and dying trees can do when met with rain and wind. >> monterrey pines that aren't as sturdy as we all wish they would be. when the ground gets saturated 57bd the winds blow, some of niece trees are rotted and create a lot of risk for the homeowners. >> in san rafael, they cleaned storm drains. meanwhile, in downtown nevada, we found people enjoying the last of the sunshine, at least for a little while. >> one thing i need to do and that is to empty all my rain barrels so that hopefully the first flush of the rain will get caught then in the empty barrels and not go racing out to the streams. >> now, officials here at nef -- novato public works say get the sand now, don't wait until it's storm drains, homeowners cleaning out gutters, been warned about spllick pavement. >> it's the calm before the rain. we would call it a storm. but after a long summer in san francisco, folks don't model making company in folsom. water on the floor is likely to remain so until the public utilities commission installs larger sewer pipes to handle the runoff from twin peaks. it is in the planning stages. meantime, when more than an inch falls in 24 hours, the p.u.c. deploys barriers. they do not expect that to happen tomorrow. meantime -- >> i hope to get sand barrels. >> in short, welcome online. flames and thick black smoke. check this out. it poured out of a home under construction. this is the picture of the fire from the city's twitter account. sky 7 was over the area. minutes later, you can see lots of smoke from that fire. roads from closed in the area as firefighters worked to get the flames under control. on the subject of fire, alameda county firefighters put out a house fire. sky 7 was over the home near han ford street and palmdale. the fire was quickly extinguished. cause under investigation. nobody was hurt. we have new details this afternoon on that boat that capsized over the weekend in the bay. it's now out of the water and moored at pier 39. >> melanie woodrow live with what crews learned when they got the ship out of the water. melanie? >> take a look at the boat back at pier 39 after it was salvaged this morning and towed here. it's the one with the american flag on top. it looks pretty good considering it was underwater from saturday. we were told there were stacks and stacks of life jackets still in nair packaging on the boat along with purses and wallets and children's toys. we have video to show you from sky 7 of the boat as it was being lifted out of the water earlier today. then from the ground, you can see it being towed this afternoon from the hyde street pier where it was brought to the surface of the water back to pier 39. san francisco police tell abc 7 news the coast guard has now determined there was no environmental impact from this incident that occurred on saturday. sfpd's marine unit is still investigating the criminal side of this, the potential criminal side of this. whether the life jackets were worn. how many people were on the vessel. whether or not there was any recklessness or negligence. a squid boat saw it lifted out of the water today. >> it was kind of cool watching them with the airbags and the tug and everything else, pull it up. >> it looks pretty good, surprisingly. we were all surprised there wasn't much damage. no windows were blown out or anything like that. it doesn't -- for being under, looks pretty good. >> reporter: it's estimated that 30 people were on this boat. 27 adults and 3 children. some people were initially trapped under the boat's hull. anybody who was taken to the hospital has since been released. again, the coast guard has determined today that there was no environmental impact from this incidents. and san francisco police department marine unit is still investigating the criminal side of this. live in san francisco, melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. melanie, thank you. a police chase ended in front of lafayette high school prompting a lockdown at two schools. police say one of the suspects jumped out of a stolen car and ran out on to the campus. a chase began that ended at the high school. police found one suspect near the high school gym and another in a backyard toolshed. a person was hit by a truck on interstate 80 in san francisco this morning. was also shot. investigators say a ford pickup truck struck the pedestrian around 5:00 a.m. near the westbound 80 and 101 connector. that person was taken to the hospital and later died. two women had to crawl out from their overturned car after it collided with a semi truck in san jose this morning. this is around 4:00 a.m. on 101 southbound near brokaw road. the women's suv flipped over into a ditch. the u.p.s. truck ended up on its chp closed lanes for traffic. it lasted for six hours as crews -- nobody including the truck driver was seriously injured. fire officials say one of the vehicles cut the other one off. they're not sure which one cut the other off. coming up at 4:00, donald trump is on the defensive. >> and it would have been one of the biggest stories of the year. >> the gop candidate is furiously fending off accusations of inappropriate behavior today and the mike drop moment from the first lady. long lines outside a fundraiser for hillary clinton. have you seen lady michelle obama. here's abc news reporter kenneth voe ton. >> reporter: donald trump on the defense against accusations. >> these vicious things about me about inappropriate conduct with women are totally and absolutely false. >> the gop nominee rallied in florida a amid mounting attacks that he sexually assaulted women. >> when he started putting his hand up my skirt and that was it. that was it. i was out of there. >> reporter: "the new york times" reported jessica lee's claims that trump groped her three decades ago on a plane. he allegedly introduced himself to rachel crooks by kissing her on the mouth. they're hillary clinton supporters. they didn't -- they came forward after the recent release of the vulgar 2005 comments bragging about grabbing women. trump took on the reports of inappropriate behavior. >> they're outright lies. these events never ever happened. >> reporter: the accusations against trump not so easily dismissed by clinton. >> we've already learned who donald trump is. >> but on the trail, first lady michelle obama made an emotional plea to women delivering a blisterring attack on trump. >> this is disgraceful, it is intolerable and to dismiss this as everyday locker room is an insult to decent men everywhere. >> trump says there's evidence to prove his accusers are lying. he didn't give a timetable but says he plans to release that information dreams that would be shared with unlv. the nevada assembly is meeting in a special session to debate a funding plan that the senate approved on tuesday. $750 million would come from the public in the form of bonds that would be paid off with increased hotel taxes. the team would kick in another $500 million and a casino mogul would pick up the rest. supporters say it would bring more visitors and 14,000 new jobs to the area. opponents call it corporate welfare. >> a stadium like this fills really the only remaining gap in the entertainment portfolio in southern nevada. >> reliance on room tax to pay that bonding capacity back, if there is in fact a problem with that, it's going to fall on the backs of the clark county taxpayers. >> it's too early for bay area raiders fans to give up hope, though. remember, 3/4 of nfl owners need to approve a franchise move and oakland mayor libby schaaf is leading an effort to craft a new stadium deal at the current location. the nevada assembly is set to begin voting at 7:00 tonight. we'll keep you posted on results. larry and ama. the expectation is that they're going to rubber stamp that and try to push it through. it's imperative to the group to weave three stormy days coming our way. here's a look at live doppler 7. things are calm right now. we had an increase in clouds. it's a fairly mild afternoon. winds are relatively calm as well. all of that will change by late tonight, early tomorrow. we're looking at current temperatures of 63 at half moon bay. 68 at san francisco and virtually all of the locations near the bay and inland have temperatures at 70, 71 degrees. tomorrow, towards late afternoon, we'll see highs well after the rain has arrived. we'll see highs ranging from low to mid 60s at the coast to upper 60s around the bay. maybe up to 70 degrees inland. here's what's going to happen before we get to that point. storm impact scale which we use to rank the intensity and impact of every approaching storm. the first ranked 2 in the impact scale. this storm arrives overnight and continues through the day tomorrow. it will bring half an inch to inch and a half of rainfall. winds gusting 20 to 40 miles per hour. here's the forecast animation starting tonight. you can see tomorrow morning, across the north bay, a wide path of moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by strong gusty winds. lighter amounts in other parts of the bay area at times. but quickly by 9:00 a.m. the rain -- through the central part of the bay area. from the north bay to the east bay and swinging southward into the late afternoon hours breaking up a bit in the north bay. will it dump lots of rainfall. toward the end of the day into the evening and nighttime hours, the first storm is breaking up. i mentioned it will be accompanied by gusty winds. starting 9:00 tonight, gusts between 20 and 40 miles per hour going into the early morning hours and by evening tomorrow, we'll see the winds tapering off and rainfall totals tomorrow night will range anywhere from about .6 in san jose to 3/4 in san francisco and over an inch at santa rosa. storm number 2, also ranks 2 on the storm impact scale. another moderate storm that will produce an additional half an inch to 1 .24 of rainfall. up to 50 miles per hour. this one arrives saturday afternoon. here's the forecast animation for the second storm. starting at 3:00 p.m. saturday, it will already be raining in the far northern part of our viewing area. rain will be spreading across the north bay from santa rosa to the golden gate. then it will continue southward and eastward sweep reaching into the peninsula. the south bay and the east bay by 10:00 saturday night. it will continue overnight into sunday and at some point on sunday, it will be more widespread and more intense. this is going to be another very rainy storm. it's just going to be wet from tomorrow right on through the weekend. winds will be gusting with the second storm near 50 miles per hour. there's a wind gust animation we can see by 4:00 sunday afternoon, gusts will still be raising from 35 to 40 miles per hour. finally, we can just a bit into late sunday night, here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. two storms spanning three days. the two storms rank 2 on the storm impact scale. it will all begin to taper off with partial clearing on monday and then we'll get some sunny days towards the >> reporter: after four years of drought we have problems with trees and their roots and hillsides. if there is one group looking forward to a little rain this weekend, well, it's your local water company, like east bay mud. this reservoir, lafayette reservoir, they're at 73%. but they could always use more rain. not sure about the guys with sliding trees. he likes to climb trees for business and pleasure. these are skills he has to practice as the owner of a tree service. his crews were scheduled to work six days a week into the new year to take down drought-damaged trees like this one in lafayette. and that's before the storm. >> people that are panicking now at the last minute, we're having to fit that into the end of our day, basically doing overtime type work. >> in the oakland hills, city public works crews are trying to keep up with clogged storm drains that could create dangerous standing water on already narrow streets. >> like this one here. this is just natural. people come down, throw stuff. have piles of debris that build up. clog up the storm drains. >> a couple of them are leaned right over. >> just a couple of blocks away, we met nick roman who lives on the hill on this road. he's concerned. >> it's happened before where we've had the slides take out the roads. definitely, something that is on your mind. >> not everyone is looking at the downside of the storm. east bay mud welcomes in. their reservoirs could always use a little more rain, even though they're currently at 73%. >> so that's perfect. that's just where we want to be. we had a good year last year thanks to mother nature and customers conserving. >> in lafayette, eric thomas, abc 7 news. we have up to the minute weather information for you any time on the abc 7 news app. after you open the app on your phone or tablet, all you have to do is tap on the temperature at the top right corner. that will give you custom forecasts for where you live or where you work. you can scroll down to see live doppler 7 ray dore for your neighborhood in particular and everywhere in the bay area. take a look. this is the view from space as hurricane nicole churned its way towards bermuda. nicole came ashore as a category 3 hurricane and spun winds of 115 miles per hour. snapping trees, flooding homes and peeling roofs from homes. the hurricane dumped up to 8 inches of rain on bermuda and surges of 6 to 8 feet. a memorial procession in los angeles county for a slain police sergeant today. patrol cars by the hundreds followed the casket of steve owen of the l.a. county sheriff's office. the 53-year-old was shot responding to a burglary call. across the country, two boston officers are in critical condition after they were shot last night. abc news reporter lauren lister has more. >> a solemn procession in southern california for l.a. county sheriff sergeant steve owen. >> was taken from us by an evil predator on october 5th. >> the veteran officer allegedly killed execution-style by a parolee responding to a burglary call. a day of mourning as two boston police officers are fighting for their lives. >> officers shot. 303 officer shot. >> the officers critically injured when authorities say they were responding late wednesday to a domestic disturbance call. >> always unpredictable. we tell our officers when they're trained, that's probably the most dangerous call they go to. >> the dispute between roommates and one of the men armed with an assault-style rifle and wearing body armor, opened fire. >> there were over 30 gunshots. >> we seen a bunch of police come, s.w.a.t. teams and the dogs. >> they killed the suspect. this comes days after two police officers in palm springs were killed also responding to calls of a domestic disturbance. the suspect in that case, john felix was also wearing body armor. >> he wanted to gun down police officers. >> investigators calling it an ambush. so far this year, 45 officers have been killed by firearms. up from 30 at this time last year. >> that's a better than 50% jump. so very disturbing for police. >> the palm springs suspect now faces capital murder charges. he's expected to be arraigned today and authorities in boston are not saying the officers were targeted. and they say it looks like they're going to survive. lauren lister, abc news. los angeles. a man accused of detonating bombs in new jersey and -- made a first court appearance from his hospital bed. rahami had a -- three counts of attempted murder of officers. it stems from a shootout with police as they took him into custody. he was wanted for planting and detonating bombs, including one that went off in new york city's chelsea neighborhood injuring nearly 30 people. rahami's forewarned federal authorities about his son well before the attacks. >> what did you tell them?
