At about 3 30 today we recovered the remains of the 2yearold from the water. Were going to try to continue searching. Were going to make certain that we have the alligator that was involved. Reporter at least 50 Law Enforcement officials and helicopters and boats and diving in the murky water looking nonstop since that first horr y horrifying 911 call came in at 9 16 last night. The family on vacation from nebraska was on the shore of the manmade seven seas lagoon at the grand floridian resort for movie night. The boy playing in inches of water when the gator grabbed him. His parents trying desperately to save the toddler. The father entered the water and tried to grab the child, was not successful in doing so. At some point, im told that the mother also may have entered the water. Reporter the area was clearly marked with no swimming signs but no warnings about alligators. Disney for now closing this and its other lakeside beaches. Everyone here at the Walt Disney World resort is devastated by this. Reporter five alligators were captured here today and euthanized. Investigators want people who may have had contact or know anything about gunman omar mateen to contact them. Records say mateen passed a psychological test in 2007 as part of his application to be be a private security guard. Police are now looking more closely at his wife. The abc News Reporter Gloria Riviera has the story. Reporter investigators now focus on orlando shooter omar mateens wife, asking what she might have known about her husbands plan. She is now koofrmting with the fbi after being shown footage of herself with mateen at various orlando locations. Law enforcement says she allegedly went with her husband to buy ammo and they had been to pulse nightclub together at least once. It is not clear whether she knew his plans for mass murder or had been questioned by the fbi on terror ties. Also unknown to the man who sold mateen his weapons. Would you have liked to have known that the fbi was investigating him . Would have been fantastic to know. He wouldnt have gotten a gun. Reporter a portrait of a deeply conflicted man is emerging. Twice married, the father of a young son, his father says mateen disavowed home sexuality. Yet as far back as ten years ago a former Law Enforcement classmate who does not want his face shown tells abc mateen expressed interest in gay men. He said, if you were gay, you would definitely be my type of guy. Reporter a survivor of mateens rampage angel colon shot six times recalled the horror. Sources say the fbi she told the fbi that she feared her husband might go on a shooting rampage and that she tried to talk him out of it. But in the end she never called 911. This is the house where she grew up in rodeo. This is the gunmans 30yearold wife seen for the first time in this yearbook photo. She graduated from high school in crockett in 2004 and lived here with her mother and father and three younger sisters in rodeo. She met the gunman omar mateen online on facebook and they were married in 2011 in hercules according to this longtime family friend who came to visit her mother. I give my sympathy for everybody, for the family and im very sorry about that. He denied things like that. We dont accept it. Thats all. Reporter friends say after their marriage they didnt see her anymore. She only came home once for her fathers funeral two years ago. As seen in this video and photos obtained exclusively by daily mail. Com, Homeland Security investigators spent 90 minutes inside the home on monday. She is cooperating with the fbi in their investigation into the mass shooting in orlando. Surveillance video shows her joining her husband on visits to a store to buy a holster and ammunition and on a trip to the pulse nightclub as he searched for targets. They visited disney world just days before the shooting. This neighbor in rodeo says he worries most about the couples 3yearold son. Thats very sad because now the family becomes apart. San francisco Marketing Executive john coal koecoalzar during one of the cruises. He was great and working with hundreds and maybe thousands of people. He was always patient. He was calm. He was a very friendly person. And he knew a lot of us by name. Part of facebook groups before we met up before the cruise. He has a mediterranean trip coming up and had planned to see sotomayor again. He thought about canceling the trip after the attack but says he will go on the cruise to show his support for sotomayor. Officers from the bay area are showing their support for San Jose Police as they mourn one of their own. Michael katherman died yesterday when his motorcycle collided with a minivan. Police chiefs and command Staff Members from several different Law Enforcement agencies paid respect today at San Jose Police headquarters. Nice to see the support from the community as well as the other officers on the department. And everybody is there to help out one another. Last night officers and firefighters from different agencies escorted his body to the medical exam innerers office. The San Jose Police Officers Association has set up a fund to help the family. It happened at 13th and franklin street. Abc 7 news anchor eric thomas is live at Police Headquarters with the story. Eric . Reporter and it was tragedy on top of tragedy. And of course as you mentioned the 17yearold girl is the victim. Lets show you who were talking about here. Her name is regina jeffreys. She was shot to death near the intersection of 13th and franklin street near downtown oakland. She and dozens of other young people had been at a funeral at a church on 66th avenue in oakland for two young men who drowned in Stanislaus County last month. They were both oakland youngsters. Now, the young people migrated to the downtown area for a vigil. Witnesses say there was a fight near the corner of 14th and franklin after it broke up, several young men in a car pulled up and at least one got out and started shooting. Suspects had approached a group of people in this area of 13th and franklin and fired on this group of people. I wondered if it was Chinese New Year again. I smelled the gun powder, thought it was fireworks. I realized people were running back and forth and i decided to go inside. Reporter now, a memorial to regina has been set up near where she fell. Evidence of the incident is still visible at the golden lotus restaurant across the street. The glass doors were blown out and they had plywood up there. A bullet hole is still in one of the windows. It is fortunate that only a few people were actually hit by gunfire. Of course, regina was dikilled d three suffered minor injuries. Ama and dan, we want to be clear the man were about to show you on video is not being called a suspect. Right now police are calling him a witness. They want to identify him, find him, and ask him for any information that could help bring an attacker to justice. This is a video recorded on march 15th at 9 30 in the morning. The man police are looking for is seen entering you washburn Residence Hall with a woman. Her face has been blurred to protect her identity. San jose state police say a victim reported that an unknown man walked into her dorm room and sexually assaulted her. Were going to slow the video down now and show it to you one more time so you get a really good look at the mans face, build, and gait. Police describe the witness they want to interview as a white man over 6 feet tall about 200 pounds wearing a gray vneck tshirt. Flames ripped through a strip mall about midnight at the intersection of santa teresa and callahan boulevard. Firefighters kept the fire from spreading to nearby houses at least but it was bad. Matt keller has more. Reporter when a fire is this big, not much can be done to stop it. Firefighters called for four alarms after it twas called in just after midnight and by the end, the Shopping Center in san jose was in ruins. Wow the entire place burned down. Hole apply may mackerel. 12 of the 15 businesses at the corner of ka halen avenue and santa teresa boulevard were destroyed by the fire, including a mexican food restaurant, and many others. Its just all mom and pop places, you know. Just kind of not millionaires, not corporations, just mom and pop places. Reporter the owner of the bar says this huge fire started small behind the restaurant but he says the response from san jose fire seemed to lack a sense of urgency. Then they took their time like setting up their gear and stuff. Next thing you know, half this whole building is like engulfed in flames, you know what i mean . Its like then all of these other trucks took forever to get here. Reporter san jose fire Spokesman Says the first firefighters arrived four minutes of after the first call and the flames had already spread into the attic. Residents in homes behind the sprip mall used garden hoses to keep the flames away. Firefighters set up structure protection. No homes were damaged. I just want to say thank you for everyone who helped because, you know, we are totally fine and its because of them. Reporter the Shopping Center has been here since the late 60s making it a neighborhood landmark. Now sadness about what has been lost. I hope in the near future we can clean up and rebuild the Shopping Center again. Reporter fire crews are going to be out here for the rest of the day keeping an eye on hot spots. Heres live doppler 7 hd. You can see we just have a few clouds in the bay area right now but they will increase during the overnight hours and they will be accompanied by some rainfall. Right now temperatures are 61 in San Francisco 66 across the bay in oakland a few mid to upper 60s in the inland areas, 72 the warm spot at los gaut tease. This is the view from mt. Tam as clouds are beginning to push into the area. As you can see trees blowing in the breeze there and the forecast features are these. Showers arrive overnight. Well have some wet spots for the morning commute and it will be heetding up all across the bay area except at the coast starting on fathers day. Heres a look at our lows tonight as showers push into the north bay. Well see lows mainly in the low to mid50s. Those showers are likely to spread, though. Our storm impact scale ranks this storm 1 on the scale of 1 to 5. Its a light storm producing showers tomorrow with a slight chance of some thunder mainly in the afternoon and most areas will see less than a quarter inch of rainfall. Heres the forecast animation starting 9 00 tonight. By about 3 00 a. M. Well see showers pushing into the north bay and then by 6 00 a. M. Well see them spreading slightly south of the golden gate and maybe over toward the east bay a little bit. But the heaviest concentration of showers will be in the north bay. But of course that does mean well see some wet spots across the bay area for the morning commute and probably a slow commute at that. By 10 00 tomorrow morning another little wave of energy may produce some showers and rain down over the peninsula and the areas south of the golden gate. But by midafternoon well see showers breaking up and winding down. So as we get into the evening hours tomorrow we expect rainfall totals again to be less than a quarter inch in most locations but up in the north by a little wetter. On we go to highs tomorrow, ranging from about 61 in Half Moon Bay to 68 at oakland to low and mid70s inland. And speaking of inland, well use livermore as our indicator of the High Temperature trend inland. Notice the big spike in temperatures over the weekend beginning sunday which is fathers day. Well see highs pushing into the 90s in many inland locations. In fact, by tuesday we expect highs to break the 100 degree mark in the warmest spots but lets start back at thursday again because thursday and friday temperatures will still be below average for most locations this time of the year. Saturday temperatures start to spike upward, sunday fathers day a sunny day and a warm one across most of the bay area, low 90s inland, upper 90s inland monday and tuesday looks like it will be the hottest day in the forecast period with highs above 100 degrees in the warmest inland spots up to about 90 around the bay but only upper 60s on the coast. Ama, folks in sacramento knew him as the east area rapist down in l. A. , they called him the golden state killer. Now on the 40th anniversary of his first crime, Law Enforcement is launching a nationwide push to find out his identity. This subject has eluded investigators for over 40 years and the victims and their families deserve justice. The fbi has joined the hunt for one of californias most notorious criminals who first struck 40 years ago in rancho cordova. He came in, had a ski mask on, and jumped on the bed and had a knife. Reporter Police Called him the east area rapist. He was also a burglar. After it was all over and done with, he went through the stuff in the room, took money out of my purse. Reporter . In the months that followed, a slew of Sexual Assaults in the area. The m. O. Was distinctive and brutal. Blindfolded, gagged, hands tied, legs tied and then you know, pulled me up like this because i was on my stomach and put my back in bed and said, if you move im going to kill uf. That was in the late 1970s. But in 2000 dna evidence confirmed a link between the bay area crimes and a series of murders in Southern California during the 1980s. The east area rapist had become the golden state killer. This serial offender was probably one of the most prolific certainly in california possibly within the united states. The fbi has created a website and theyre offering a 50,000 reward. The killer could be in his 60s or 70s by now and may be keeping mementos stolen during his many crimes. The answer is out there. We need a name because when we match that name with that profile, that journey for justice will come to an end. In San Francisco, jonathan bloom, abc 7 news. Wreckage from crashed egyptair flight 804 has been found now in the mediterranean sea. Egyptian investigators say theyve found several main locations of wreckage. Of those pieces of fuselage will be retrieved by ships looking for the plane. Flight 804 plunged into the sea may 19th killing all 66 om board. This week investigators revealed they do not believe an explosion caused the airbus 320 to crash. Why the plane went down, though, is still unknown. There was a show of desperation in court today by former sprinter Oscar Pistorius in his sentencing hearing for his wifes murder. Pistorius removed his prosthesis and hobbled around the court as his lawyers tried to show that the double amputee is a vulnerable man who deserves leniency. The demonstration drew gasps from onlookers while pistorius wiped away tears. The South African is awaying a new sentence after an Appeals Court changed his manslaughter conviction to murder. Prosecutors are demanding 15 years in prison. Donald trumps claim that his proposed ban on muslims from the u. S. Might have prevented the orlando massacre came under attack today from hillary clinton. A ban on muslims would not have stopped this attack. Neither would a wall. I dont know how one builds a wall to keep the internet out. Clintons comments came during a National Security discussion with veterans, military families and members of the Defense Community in hampton, virginia. Meantime, in georgia, donald trump told supporters that the orlando death toll wouldnt have been as high if people inside the club were carrying guns. If the bullets were going in the other direction aimed at this guy who was just open target practice, you would have had a situation, folks, which would have been always horrible but nothing like the carnage that we all, as a people, suffered this weekend. The nra endorsed trump last month but theyre on opposite sides of one issue. The nra says it will accept trumps invitation for a meeting. On capitol hill, members of the house are about to start reading the powerful letter written by the victim in the stanford Sexual Assault case. The reading will take place after the last vote of the day which is expected to be in the next hour. Congresswoman jackie spear says dozens of democrats and republicans have asked to read portions of the letter. Spear says it powerfully communicates the agony of Sexual Assault. A gay man who came to zpraengs to avoid persecution in mexico is now facing deportation. Abc 7 news was outside the Immigration Office as supporters of the 34yearold martinez rallied for his freedom. Martinez was detained at his home on june 1st. He had been deported previously and reentered the country illegal illegally. Immigration officials want him to be deported because he was arrested last year for drunk driving. His partier says he and martinez have built a life together but now fear they will be be separated forever. He has the look of fear on his face. He was crying because he didnt know what was going on, whats going to happen if hell ever see us again. After the rally, immigration authorities freed martinez while his case is being reyou viewed. Martinez is now seeking asylum and a visa as a crime victim. Coming up on abc 7 news at 4, we are seeing this scene a lot right now, high school graduations. You couldnt tell by looking at the sky now because we have lots of sunshine here, but clouds will be thickening during the overnight hours and well be seeing showers coming in, oh, during the early hours of the morning. Rainfall intensity up in santa rosa will be at its greatest between 5 00 a. M. And 7 00 a. M. And in fact the north bay is the area that will in general see the greatest likelihood of rainfall. Heres the forecast animation starting at 9 00 p. M. Notice that by 3 00 a. M. Well see an area of showers pushing into the north bay as it spreads a little farther inland by 6 00 a. M.
