when you first heard about the shooting. but it's different when you find out he lived next door to you. the sheriff is concerned for families of victims. >> also, today, orr oor's governor game to town and praised this community. >> i am proud of how the roseburg community pulled together to care for and comfort each other during this horrific crisis. >> here's a picture of the shooter identified as chris harper mercer. >> police officers faced off with mercer before shooting him. >> also, today, tales of heroism. he is out of surgery now recovering from seven gunshot wounds. >> it is also worth noting that president obama ordered flags at half staff across the nation to remain that way until 6:00 p.m. on tuesday in honor of the victims. when we come back in an hour, more on the eight of the nine shooting victims. several of them teenagers if their first few days of college. one was an english professor shot while teaching a writing class. two of them were first responders in douglas county. >> two of these victims were actually members of our immediate fire and e.m.s. family. obviously, we are family and this hurts. the situation is personal to us chl and we share in the pain that this community is feeling right now. >> students and staff who survive the attack are being bussed in today to pick up their cars and other belongings. class will remain closed through next week. >> one of the men who thwarted a terror attack back in august lives in roseburg and was enrolled in umpqua community college. he rushed home after learning about the attack and showed his reaction today on "good morning america." >> it's just absolutely insane to be in a situation like this. especially in my town, roseburg. this is a really small community. just something of this magnitude is just very rare and just unheard of. >> he said he wished he could have been there. he's a member of oregon's national guard and says he's devastated by the shooting and vows to do whatever he can to help people there heal. >> the gunman did have distant relatives here in the bay area. one of them last saw him when they were both children. a step-cousin described for us today how she'd been shaking by yesterday's tragic shooting. >> it's nerve racking and awkward that i know someone who murdered so many people. god. god. it's not a good feeling. >> evans added that harper with think. >> a woman is in the hospital after losing control to her car and then crashing it. this is around 7:00 this morning. crews had to pry her out of a car. two workers were in the car but experience that i haven't seen. >> i don't understand drivers that take on poles and go through buildings at 80 miles an hour. and it's not a good day for us. and not a good day for our patient. >> the driver's name and age have not been released. investigators confirm she was speeding, but they don't know if there were any extenuating circumstances. >> a multi-agency crackdown has led to five arrests today across four cities. police and sch.w.a.t. have gott the most dangerous ghost town gang members off the street. they've also uncovered illegal weapons like high-powered weapons, multiple sunday morning. you'll see the forecas+hi[a$(lc% a moment.. you don't need to change up your plans. most of it, if it does come in, will be when you're sleeping. one is moving out, another trough is coming in. as the second system comes in from western canada, it doesn't have any moisture. really, a lot of moisture associated with it because it's traversing over land. here's what's happening. it comes down towards us, drops the temperatures and in an isolated shower or two, may develop around sunday at 1:00 a.m. can't rule it out, still at 3:00 a.m. notice in the sierra, you're starting to see some snow mixing in with rain there. but the snow is going to be above 8,000 feet. looking at sunshine. mild weather for a sunday morning. if you're traveling to a high country, do keep in mind those showers will continue. the wind does pick up 8:00 in the morning. by 6:00 p.m., looking at 30-40 mile an hour wind. especially in the coast or the north bay hills. mild offshore pattern on sunday for the wind switching directions and things kwooit down. tomorrow morning, crisp, cool, upper 40s to mid 50s. your early plans if your kids have games, they will need to bundle up. and then, for the afternoon, a mild day as far as inland areas are concerned. 70s, 80s along the coast. 81 in livermore. 77 in san jose. 78 degrees in concord. turning windy tomorrow evening. a chance of some early morning drops on sunday. and then the second half of your weekend does look milder. we're going to keep you in this mild pattern next week. friday, we'll warm it up near 90 degrees. so, really, where you live at 4:30, the douglas county sheriff confirmed this afternoon, nine people were killed in the oregon college shooting yesterday. the oldest, a 67-year-old college professor who was shot while he was teaching. investigators were looking for the writings left behind by the gunman who's originally from torrence in southern california. the president ordered all flags at half staff today. he ordered congress to take action in this sweep. mr. obama saying we work to reduce deaths in those areas and guns should be no different. >> google trends sent out a tweet this morning noting that more people search for gun control than gun shop after the tragedy. the two other times it happened this year were at the church shooting in charleston. as of november 1st, san francisco will no longer have any gunshots. the last one standing is about to close because of mounting pressure. but does that actually help reduce crime sdm. >> well, larry, take a good look. in less than a month, no more gun shops here in san francisco. it hasn't really helped in other cities in the united states, some of the major cities. but some lawmakers say we have to start somewhere. >> the latest gun several days. daily rainfall records, as much as two feet of rain is expected across parts of the carolinas through the weekend and going into mondaying. so keep in mind, if you have travel plans
