to find them but it moved to auburn after two more deputies were shot. authorities found the woman but the man escaped until just moments ago. they're not sure what started this violent shooting spree but hope to get answers very soon. >> as far as i know, none of our detectives have talked to the female yet. and i don't know at this point how involved she was in the initial shooting of deputy oliver. >> deputy oliver was a 15-year veteran. he is survived by a wife and two children. stay with abc 7 news for breaking updates on this tragedy, on this shooting today and more on the gunman. you can follow our twitter feed, abc 7 news bay area. a deadly school shooting in washington state. a student opened fire in a high school cafeteria, killing a girl and wounded four other students. three are in critical condition. the gunman later killed himself. it happened in marysville north of seattle. the shooter has been identified as jaylen fryberg. students say he was a popular freshman, someone everyone liked, and he seemed perfectly normal yesterday. >> he was just calm during the whole thing and he was fine the day before. i remember talking to him. he seemed like the normal, you know, kid that we all knew. and everyone knew him. everyone knew him as that kid and he was always very nice. >> the school was put on lockdown while police made sure there were no other shooters. a short time ago, parents were reunited with their kids. police are still trying to figure out the motive behind today's shooting. >> just terrible. good afternoon. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. >> obviously we are staying on top of both of those tragic sayings situati situations for you. we want to turn to the story in our own backyard. the giants getting ready to play game three of the world series here at home. >> it was hard not to run into a giants fan today around the bay area. first pitch is about an hour away. sky 7 hd was overhead at at & t park as fans started filing in. look at all the people in mccovey cove hoping to get a home run ball. >> the giants are on a quest to win their third championship in five years. the series is tied one game apiece. >> larry beil and mike shumann are live at the ballpark tonight. perfect weather but hope for a perfect game. >> we would hope for that, for sure. at the moment we are just trying to keep the giants flags from bopping us in the head here. it is a circus-like scene. that's okay. you can come back in a little bit later. it is kind of a frenzy out here. just to give you the orientation, we are at second and king. momo's is right across the way. one entrance is right here and behind us is the vip and player parking lot to the right. that's where we are situated right here. it's a little bit nuts with 42,000 people filing in for first pitch about an hour away but pretty orderly, i would have to say. >> pretty orderly. i was walking down from the stadium where the players park. there's another parking lot on the other side of that. players were having trouble getting into their own parking lot. little chaos, little organization, but a lot of excited giants fans. >> you can feel the energy and the excitement and some tension, too. we don't know what's going to happen and this is a pivotal game three tonight. let's look back in history and tell you the importance of game three, because coming in, 16 of the last 19 teams that won game three in a world series that was tied at a game apiece, they went on to win the whole thing. so this is critical tonight. let's do a little recap of how we got to game three by first talking about the world series opener and madison bumgarner was absolutely fantastic in the series opener. he shut the royals down in that game as we have some video of bumgarner and company going to work. game two, we saw the royals evening up the series on the strength of a five-run sixth inning and the big blow in game two came off the bat of kansas city's second baseman, omar infante. before today's game, earlier this afternoon, both managers spoke about the importance of winning tonight. >> good to be home. we're not going to change how we play the game. i'm sure they're not, either. every game's important when you're in a series. i'm trying to think how long it's been going now, how important the next game is. i think i've heard this since late august. that never changes. >> our guys are real confident. we got a lot of confidence in guthrie and vargas. the next two games here. we look for james shields to bounce back in a big way. we feel pretty good where we sit right now. >> i had a chance to talk to bochy just about an hour ago. he admitted you know, okay, the starting pitching for the giants isn't as good as it was in 2010 or 2012, when they last won the world series, but he said he personally was really pumped up because he just wanted to see tim hudson take the mound in a world series for the first time in his 16-year career. as excited as he was about everything else, personally he was pumped for huddy. >> the guy has been playing 16 years, he's 39 years old, first ever world series appearance. you got to wonder, he's an even-keeled guy, but what it will be like for him to take the mound tonight. once the game starts i think he'll be fine. it will be interesting. >> let's start about ned yost, who has bay area connections. >> that's right. he's a bit of a local guy. grew up in dublin and you know, is the royals skipper. yost grew up in dublin high school. his stepfather's name, he was called ned moffett back then. the current head coach at dublin said he's a great guy. two years ago he invited the school to royals training camp but who were they rooting for? >> we got a lot of giants fans obviously around here. we are obviously pulling for ned just because he's a local guy. but it's hard because brandon crawford is local. there's a lot of local ties to the series. i think it will be a phenomenal series. >> yost later attended junior college in hayward, of course, and was a walk-on on the baseball team. he moved out of the bay area when he was 18 years old. ticket prices here are unbelievable and astronomical but there are a few spots where you can get a free glimpse to watch game three tonight. we will throw it over the stadium to the other side of mccovey cove, and that's where abc 7 news reporter wayne freedman is standing by. hi, wayne. >> reporter: you know, they call this a free glimpse, i'm not sure what they are getting a glimpse of. they are getting a glimpse of the people in the stadium. still, when the giants proposed a ballpark in this location, the original plan was to have trained dogs catching the balls and retrieving them from the water. well, it didn't appear that that idea worked out real well. you are looking at chaos afloat. when is the last time you saw this in mccovey cove? bomb sniffing dogs checking out everyone and everything that moved as long as it wasn't anchored and floating. we are just having that kind of day. you sailed all the way from hanford? >> every inch of it. >> reporter: is it amateur hour today? >> absolutely. >> reporter: how so? >> nobody really knows what they're doing. >> reporter: but that's what a world series brings, instant fans, and a giants navy stocked with craft ranging from small kayaks to this 1943 navy tugboat rescued from mothballs and restocked. >> for less than the price of one world series ticket for standing room, we can sail the boat from maryland to here, camp out, enjoy ourselves. >> reporter: and stare at the landlubbers in right field. some arrived early for three innings of peeking through the fence. >> 3:00 this morning. >> reporter: for three innings? >> for just three innings, yeah. but tickets are going so much, we couldn't afford it. >> reporter: which gives all new meaning to the concept of floating the price of a ticket. okay. there's the floating armada. there is also plenty of security out there on the water. look closely, you will see the coast guard, the san francisco police, the fire department. they are patrolling out there, navigating through the chaos. you might wonder how did we get out there today. well, in an hour, we will show you. it took some doing. thank goodness we have a photographer who just happens to own a boat. wayne freedman, abc 7 news. >> nice. nice. you are renting out your yacht tonight to some folks? >> exactly. right. >> now, it's a beautiful sunny day this afternoon. this is spectacular. >> it's so beautiful, the sun is glistening off my forehead. if you are anywhere in direct, you will get blinded. >> it's nice today but rain may be a factor tomorrow in game four of the world series. we will go back into the archives and take a historical look here now, rain in october, obviously it occurs in the bay area regularly but it's only impacted world series play twice out of the 30 games in either san francisco or oakland going all the way back to 1962. this is footage from '62, game six between the giants and yankees was postponed for four days. they even brought in helicopters to try to dry out the field. >> ten years later, game three between the a's and cincinnati was called off. coincidentally on october 17th, 17 years before the loma prieta earthquake also canceled game three. like 1962, they even brought helicopters in to dry the field. that's the last time rain has forced the game to be canceled in the bay area. >> so tonight, no concern about the weather but tomorrow, rain is definitely a factor as we go back to the studio and bring in abc 7 news meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya, we have had 45 conversations in the last day and a half about what's going to happen tomorrow at 5:07 p.m. >> that's right. larry, you didn't believe any of it. it is absolutely beautiful for tonight's game, no doubt about it. but tomorrow's game definitely in question as far as the weather's concerned. let's take a look at the forecast for tonight. giants take on the royals, it will be nice weather, little bit of brightness out there. hopefully a good outcome for the giants. low to mid 60s as the game gets under way. tomorrow evening at at & t park, showers are likely. temperatures on the comfortable side. there's a slight chance of thunderstorms. are we expecting a repeat of 1962? right now, it doesn't look like it but those showers may briefly be heavy tomorrow evening. make sure you have a poncho or raincoat and i know shu gets to be the lucky one tomorrow night, am i right? >> yes, shu will be out here tomorrow night. >> i'm taking more grief right now because of my royal blue jacket. maybe next year we need to think about changing these abc jackets to orange, green and gold, maybe red. just a thought. >> let's blame management. we will come back with more of our countdown to world series game three here at at & t park. we will focus on perhaps the quirkiest guy out here, hunter pence when abc 7 news at 4:00 cont oh chris, di? oh, i knew i forgot something. i'll just do it now. well, we're boarding. no, i'll use citi mobile. it takes two seconds, better safe than sorry, right? yeah, who knows if we'll even get service on the island? what! no service? seriously? you guys might actually have to talk. to each other? we do it all the time. i like it. should we? no. bank from almost anywhere with the citi mobile app. to learn more, visit citi.com/easierbanking welcome back. now to a different stadium, levi's stadium which is facing a new traffic challenge. >> it really is. there's the regular friday night commute, obviously, plus fans are heading to the santa clara facility for tonight's college game between cal and oregon. >> in the midst of it all is abc 7 news reporter david louie, live at levi's. how is it going so far? >> reporter: you can see right here it's not very busy on great america parkway but we have been seeing waves of people arriving. the oregon fans arriving as early as 12:00 noon and cal fans shortly thereafter. the staggered arrival times are helping but the real challenge comes after the game when everyone tries to leave levi's at the same time. traffic control teams were staffing detours at 10:00 this morning, surprising thousands of temp workers trying to take lunch breaks. they are now expecting the worst as they try to go home after work as cal and oregon fans converge on levi's stadium. >> i think it will be a nightmare. you absolutely had to get out of here early if you plan on leaving at all. >> reporter: how early do you plan to leave? >> as soon as i can let my boss let me do it. >> reporter: links to this site were sent to ticket holders since it will be many people's first time to santa clara. folks are urged to use public transit if possible. this will be the first time we are facing a double whammy, handling a weekly commute of passengers but fans heading to levi's. extra service is being added. >> this will definitely be a way to gather more information so the next time there's an event on a week night, we can plan accordingly. >> reporter: great america is easing congestion by closing its friday night halloween haunts attraction. the popular event can easily attract 20,000 people. >> for the good of santa clara. want to be a good corporate citizen. this time it worked out well for us. we are going to close for halloween haunt tonight but are still open saturday and sunday. >> reporter: some stores and restaurants already have been impacted by the aggressive traffic control. >> we didn't expect the cones to be out until about 3:00 p.m. we have had customers come and say you know what, it was a trek to get here but we tried very hard to come and eat lunch so we had those customers that were aggressive about it but i don't know about the other ones. >> reporter: this office worker isn't sweating it. how you going to get out tonight after work? >> it's a secret. i'm not going to share it. how's that? >> reporter: you figured the best way out? >> i did. >> reporter: you're not sharing it? >> i'm not sharing it. >> reporter: david louie, abc 7 news. now back to our continuing world series coverage. >> outfielder hunter pence, the reverend, is one of the most colorful characters on the team. >> larry beil is out at the ballpark with more on that story. >> we are continuing our countdown to game three of the world series between the giants and the royals. you guys mentioned hunter pence, the reverend. i think he's become one of our favorite interviews and also one of the most effective giants in post season play. of course, had the key home run in game one that propelled the giants to a 7-1 victory. he's so much fun, he's so quirky, he's got really kind of the whole baseball world talking. he's become something of a cult hero, the knee-high socks, the frizzy hair, the big eyes. he really is a pretty easy target for fans to make fun of, which they do. >> in august, while playing with the mets, new york fans started making these sort of signs about pence. it continued at other ball parks and of course, back here. pence embraced it and spoke about it after yesterday's workout. >> i love the one says hunter pence, i love you on the first date. pretty good. and hunter pence thinks he's in kansas when i'm in kansas city. but i am in kansas city. i know i'm there. yeah. they're fun. there has been a lot of other really good ones. oh, i like this one. this one actually amazing, done in kansas city. hunter pence picks hamburger in hot dog race. >> he is hilarious. hunter still uses myspace. "usa today" is calling him the most interesting man in the world series. one of a kind with a great sense of humor about all of it. also, he happens to be a terrific player. a book publisher near at & t park is looking to try to drum up some business making up their own hunter pence signs. fans heading to the game are stopping by to snap pictures of the signs saying things like hunter pence speaks fluent wookie. hunter pence never tweets boring stuff. >> the signs are a take on titles published by chronicle books. the store is also offering a 10% discount on books for fans wearing giants gear. >> the crowd has thickened here. everybody is trying to make their way into the park or just get on camera, one or the other. >> photo bombing. >> yes. what's up guys? you got in. you got tickets. we're having a good time out here. we will be back a little later. we will test shu's dexterity as he tries to get in and out of momo's with drinks for all. we will see how that goes. for now, back to the studio, to dan and ama. >> wish him luck. >> thanks very much. spencer christian is off and meteorologist sandhya patel is here checking our weather. >> how's the weather for the baseball game tonight? >> it's going to be terrific. right now, just a mix of sun and clouds and that's what we expect at game time. comfortable temperatures, little bit of a breeze. blue skies right now with some clouds at this hour. let me show you live doppler 7 hd. it will be dry tonight, no rain worries this evening. as we take a look here, live doppler 7 hd is not tracking any moisture just yet. pacific gusty winds tomorrow morning, showers with a chance of thunder in the afternoon and evening hours. it is going to be dry for game number five on sunday. here's the timeline. late tonight, a few sprinkles may develop. it's really in the overnight hours going into tomorrow morning where you will see widespread rainfall. saturday, 7:00 a.m., pockets of moderate rain in yellow and orange. could be a little bit of a breather in between but then more showers develop saturday evening right when game number four is getting under way. slight chance of thunderstorms as showers continue to shift to the south and east by 8:00 p.m., and then as we head towards sunday morning, the showers are out of here. we do go with a sunny forecast for game number five, clear and cool, so the weather will cooperate. you might need a sweater or jacket tomorrow -- sunday night, excuse me. rain totals in the north bay mountains, three quarters to an inch and a half. most lower elevations, .15 to .50 inch. game three of the world series between the giants and the royals. a little over 40 minutes away. we decided to test both the popularity and the dexterity of mike shumann here while this guy honks his horn. we thought we would do this. there's like 1,000 people at momo's. see if he can navigate his way through the crowd and come back with drinks for all. after all, he is a former super bowl winner as he occasionally reminds us and been on bay area television with abc 7 for 27 years. certainly they will part like the red sea and let you through. >> what would you like to drink? >> just something non-alcoholic for a change. because you are in royal blue, i don't want you to be accosted. who is honking back here? we are doing live tv, everybody. come on, now. take off. take off. shu used to have 4.5 speed. got a pretty good glide going right there. i think things are going to get a little tougher for him once he hits the front door at momm that will do it for now. maybe we will bring back something for you two. >> he didn't seem very confident. seemed a little unsure of himself. >> wonder if he's working for tips. talk show host jimmy kimmel paid tribute to a fresno man who pulled an elderly man from a burning home. >> you might have seen the video earlier this week. that's tom carrying the man from the home. >> arteaga happened to be driving by when he heard calls for help. last night, jimmy kimmel surprised him by giving him free passes to disneyland. >> the life-long dodgers fan received a special honor from his favorite team presented by legendary manager tommy lasorda. >> it is my pleasure to proclaim that thomas and his family will be our guests at a dodger game next season and thomas will throw out the first pitch. >> how cool is that. tom was overwhelmed by the whole thing, as you can imagine. there he is wiping tears away. >> that is sweet. kimmel also gave the truck driver a bumper sticker saying quote, ask me about the stranger i heroically pulled get the drinks from across the street? find out. plus a world series ticket isn't cheap or easy to get. why is one south bay couple giving theirs away? and later -- >> it looks like lunch at one of those fancy startups but it's actually a san francisco middle school. nothing boring about it. what the district is doing to improve the way kids eat. $1500 a game right now. >> that's probably cheap. >> giants fans are throwing down big bucks for the hottest ticket in town. >> game three of the world series gets under way in half an hour. abc 7 news sports director larry beil is in the middle of all the action outside at & t park live. larry? >> yeah, we are waiting on mike shumann to come back from momo's with drinks. we will see how that goes. that's okay. hang on. he's back. i don't see a lot of stuff that he brought back. we will talk about your journey and how it went. for now let's focus on the starting pitchers tonight. that would be tim hudson for the giants against former stanford man, jeremy guthrie. this is going to be the first world series start for both of these pitchers, who happen to have combined for 26 years of major league experience. october baseball is a starting pitcher's dream and as you can imagine, both of these starters are excited about the prospects of pitching in game three. >> it's the biggest stage, it's the pinnacle of baseball. this is what everybody hopes and dreams for throughout their career. it's obviously a bigger, brighter stage but at the end of the day, it's the same game we have played all year, the same game we have played our whole lives. >> playoff baseball has proven to be a grind on both sides. their pitcher has to grind. our pitchers are grinding. hitters are grinding, giving great at-bats. it's different than when you're out there throwing in may and guys are giving you two or three pitch at-bats and moving on, roll over and to the next guy. there's a very heightened sense of awareness and focus by each side. >> well, both managers are prepared to go to their bull pens early in game three. let's talk about the atmosphere. players, fans, grounds crew, security personnel, the parking attendants, everybody is ready for game three tonight and abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield has more. >> reporter: giants officials call this one of life's magical moments. the grassy stage for tonight's world series is being primped while fans await game three and decorate the city in their orange and black. >> everybody is walking around in caps and shirts. i think it's great. i think it's sort of a statement that the fans see this as our team. >> go, giants! >> reporter: even the usually neutral hospitality business is picking sides on this one. the doormen at the argonaut hotel on fishermen's wharf on wearing giants gear even though many kansas city fans are staying here. >> they're like hm, nice. very nice. they just walk off. but it's okay. we're going to have a walk-off home run tonight. yes. go, giants! >> reporter: chris hernandez sticks out a bit in his kansas city gear. he says he didn't hesitate to dress like this and he hasn't encountered any hostility. >> people are really friendly. i think people feel a little bad for us because we haven't been to the world series for so long. they are giving us five, wishing us luck. >> reporter: the one hostile thing he has faced in san francisco are our prices. >> actually rental car prices are out of control. i think everything's getting marked up. that's fine. we'll deal with it. we're only here, 29 years ago we were in the series so i figure i'm spreading this money over 30 years, almost like a mortgage payment. >> i think it's different. i think this is toto, this is not kansas or whatever the expression is. >> reporter: a fan told us he paid $17 to park at a game in kansas city. of course, parking around here right now is about $100. another one of those only in san francisco moments. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. parking near the ballpark, prices are going sky high, over $100. one security guard told me up to $200. getting here early didn't help. the prices at 11:00 this morning on townsend street, $80 per spot. that was six hours before the game. fans willing to walk about half a mile got a little bit of a discount but not really a whole lot. >> i paid $60 to park. normally during the season i pay anywhere from $15 in this lot to $20. it jumped but it's a big day. >> i got here at about 8:30, 9:00 a.m. and i got cheap parking because i managed to get $16 for all day until midnight tonight which is unbelievable. >> reporter: fans have been encouraged to take public transit to the game. no surge pricing there which is good. the fans who have to drive should expect to pay highly inflated prices for parking again throughout the weekend. throwing out tonight's ceremonial first pitch is the man who caught travis ishikawa's famous home run ball, the one that launched the giants into the world series. frank burke hold in ishikawa's walkoff pennant-winning blast game five of the nlcs against the cardinals a week ago yesterday at at & t park. as you may know, he gave the ball back to ishikawa, an act that earned him an autographed bat from travis, as well as tickets to the series and tonight's ceremonial first pitch honors. ishikawa's home run eight days ago will be remembered as one of the greatest moments in giants history. we caught up with travis after the workout yesterday and he says the whole thing was an absolute blur and that the memory is already fading. >> it's one of those things that i don't fully know if i will ever remember all of. i think just the emotions and the adrenaline was so high that there are a lot of parts of it that i don't fully remember. now that these games have started, it's behind us right now and our main job is just trying to get these wins. >> reporter: ishikawa may be remembered in baseball for that home run but his performance back in spring training of 2006 was not too bad either. rather memorable.
