live from the kgo tv broadcast center, this is "abc7 news." a blockade of police officers keeps protesters from marching onto the bay bridge, officer also probably have to do the same thing tomorrow. that protest started about 1:00 this afternoon when 200 demonstrators stopped traffic, blocking the entrance to 80, bringing traffic to a stand still. -- but they were met at each ramp with a line of police and highway patrol officers. >> we went to the freeway because that's the only way to get them to listen. >> lots of people are caught up in traffic. what do you tell them sp >> i apologize for the inconvenience, but this gets people to listen. >> reporter: there was a lot of anger aimed at officers during this protest, but the sniper shootings in dallas where five police officers were killed did affect protesters. >> i wouldn't wish death upon anyone, because i've lost a loved one. >> reporter: after five hours, the group disbursed without any arrests. there is a group of protesters today who told me this afternoon that were planning another demonstration in the city tomorrow afternoon. details on that we just don't know yet. reporting live in san francisco, "abc7 news." >> thanks, sergio. now to the tensions in dallas after now threats against police officers. those threats came just two days after a former army reservist, micah johnson, shot five police officers dead. today, investigators said he had been planning a much larger attack but moved it up after the police shootings in minnesota and louisiana. just before thursday's shooting, he studied at a dallas area self-defense school that teaches people how to shoot on the move. marci gonzalez is in dallas tonight. >> reporter: good evening. people are still coming by, paying their respects after a tense day here at dallas police headquarters. broken hearts and already frayed nerves met by new fears for dallas police. a threat and a man reportedly spotted inside the parking garage attached to police headquarters sparking a huge response. the s.w.a.t. team deployed, canines searching the garage, but never finding the man or anything suspicious. the department still on heightened alert. >> people are laying their lives on the line for people they don't even know. >> reporter: officers on edge after five colleagues were gunned down, micah johnson saying he was angry about the shooting death of black men by police and set out specifically to murder white officers. >> that individual who carried out the attacks in dallas are no more representative of african-americans than the shooter in charleston was representative of white americans. >> reporter: president obama addressing the ambush in dallas and those shootings in louisiana and minnesota, which this weekend are inspiring more protests. >> no justice, no peace. >> reporter: -- across the country. >> black lives matter! black lives matter. >> reporter: while here in texas, quiet gestures of unity and gratitude. >> so many are still showing that appreciation and respect out here tonight for police, including the seven who were injured. we learned today at least two of them are home from the hospital. in dallas, marci gonzalez, "abc7 news." in the north bay, a fund-raiser to help future police officers expand because of the tragedy in dallas. the event raises money for teenagers who are getting ready for future careers in law enforcement. this year, the volunteers also collected money for the families of the dallas officers killed. they tell us this week's events have only strengthened their interest in emergency service careers. >> it takes a certain type of person. you definitely have to put the needs of the community before yourself at all times. they're here to serve and protect us, and to have that happen, it's scary. for anybody. >> today's fair included a bicycle rodeo, car seat safety check, vehicle inspections and a distracted driving simulator. people in the bay area are showing their appreciation this weekend for the men and women who help to keep our community safe. the mountain view police department tweeted this photo with the caption, nothing makes a saturday better than some lemonade. thanks for letting us stop by. and golden gate tweeted this picture with the caption, no matter the task at hand, there's always time to make a positive relationship with the people we serve. our coverage of the shootings in dallas, as well as the impact of protests here in the bay area continues at abc7news.com and on twitter. a vallejo woman is missing after being kidnapped for ransom. the fbi has been called in to help find her. she was kidnapped june 30th. our reporter joins us with more on this developing story. lisa? >> reporter: police were still issuing search warrants tonight. they have a lot of resources on this very complicated case. it spans into multiple cities, jurisdictions and involves at least four people who have all done time in prison. >> she was just too nice of a person for something to happen to her. >> reporter: elvira lived alone in this apartment on daniels avenue. crime scene techs have covered every inch in hopes of finding the 57-year-old. overnight, police arrested these four, who they say kidnapped her. her son got the ransom demand via text. >> they had the subject's mother, that they would hurt her if they contacted the police and didn't deliver the amount of cash specified. >> reporter: we have learned that emanuel espinoza was the ringlead ringleader. here's an excerpt from a post she wrote saying, i'm about to have to turn myself in, and i just need y'all to pray for me right now. he was arrested in sacramento. police believe the only motive was money. >> i didn't believe it. she can't have no money. she was just barely making it. >> reporter: she didn't have a car and relied on friends to take her places. she was last seen her june 29th. and on the 30th, her son rushed to her home, only to find her apartment empty and dog dead. >> i think it's terrible that somebody could be took like that and we didn't hear anything. >> reporter: the more time passes the more police worry. >> the victim has been gone over a week, so it causes us some deep concern, obviously. we're hopeful we can locate her alive. >> reporter: none of the suspects are cooperating with police. that the kidnapping of denise huskins back in 2015 was a hoax. further investigation led to the arrest of matthew muller. prosecutors say he drugged and bound her before abducting her. the trial is set to begin next january. new at 11:00, a san jose woman is asking for help to find the car burglar who broke into her vehicle and made off with the truck. it happened on thursday at 2:30 in the morning on bush street in san jose. a man wearing a red hoodie smashes the window and takes the belongings. the security camera footage caught it happening. the suspect drove off in a black pickup. the woman wants her belongings back because it holds sent mental value. you're looking at guns, drugs, and money seized by detectives in contra costa county. this shows about $30,000 worth of heroine, meth and marijuana. you also see seven firearms and $76,000 in cash. detectives made the bust on thursday at a home on elk horn way in antioch. two people now face charges. a small earthquake rattled parts of the north bay today. a 3.3 quake was reported just before 5:00 p.m. east of napa. no reports of damage. still to come on "abc7 news" at 11:00, a tense day for hundreds of residents in southern california, as a wildfire forces them to leave their homes. and trying something new with san francisco's twin peaks. how the drive up to the top ask about to change. >> it was a clear picture earlier this evening. we are saying bye-bye to the fog and hello to warmer temperatures. and later, a mexican official tries to put to rest rumors that el chapo has escaped again. but first, flying high. the bay area astronaut enjoying her first night aboard the international sp sfx: crowd cheering sfx: crowd booing ♪ sfx: crowd chanting ♪ sfx: crowd cheering ♪ sc johnson, a family company ♪ ♪ in los angeles county tonight, a brush fire that's burned at least 800 acres has temporarily led to the evacuation of 2,000 people. the fire started this afternoon in the stevenson ranch area near santa clarita. fire officials evacuated about 750 homes as a precaution. the fire is only about 15% contained. evacuation orders have since been lifted for most of the evacuated areas. tonight, a wildfire is burning in the sierra foothills. it is now 90% contained. the fire has been burning for 12 days and has grown to nearly nine square miles. three injuries were reported by cal fire. this fire and the stevenson ranch fire are two of nine wildfires burning across the state. workers in a newark recycling center were back at work today cleaning up debris. "abc7 news" was at the recycling center to see what the fire had done. the raging flames engulfed thousands of pounds of recyclables yesterday afternoon. this is the thick black smoke at the height of the fire. the cause is still under investigation. visitors to twin peaks in san francisco will notice drastic changes how they get to and from the scenic overlook. the eastern portion will be converted to a car-free area for pedestrians and bicyclists and they plan to create more designated parking spots. the closure will be a two-year pilot project. one of the most prestigious clay and glass festivals is happening this weekend. more than 100 clay and glass artists showed off their creations in one of the largest shows of its kind. >> this is one show they come to every year. if they're going to buy clay or glass, they want to be here, because it does represent the top quality clay and glass from professional artists from around california. >> the event runs through tomorrow. ♪ blues in the east bay this weekend.
