police are investigating a shooting at the b street bart station in heyward. the station is shot down right now. one person is shot and taken to the hospital. this happened about 10:15 in the bus zone. trains are running through the station. but not stopping right now, we have a crew at the scene, and we'll bring you more information in the newscast. good evening, and thank you for joining us. >> turning now to the fallout from the fourth. >> there were a lot of illegal fireworks that were being utilized throughout the city of san jose. >> it's a tragedy for us. >> what was supposed to be fourth of july fun, left several bay area residents with devastating injuries, all because of illegal fireworks. abc 7 news reporter joins us live from san jose with more. lisa? >> police and fire departments got more than 100 phone calls about illegal fireworks going off yesterday. they're not uncommon, but they are dangerous. last night, people lost fingers and hands. >> just milliseconds after hearing that sound. one man hit the ground bleeding. he bought a grenade like fireworks to entertain the nashd kids. >> he barely sparked the lighter and it just took off. >> both of the 41-year-old's hands blew off instantly. >> i thought he was dead, my son wouldn't get up. i said, help me move him to the sofa. >> blood still stains the family sofa and drive way. ortiz is a carpenter, he has no idea what he'll do when he leaves the hospital. an uncertain future faces two men from sunnyvale after another mortar type firework went off when they were holding it. >> it went off and it hit his hand and face. >> the victims were rushed to sanford for surgery, both men rely on their hands to work. one is a tattoo artist, the other in construction. finally in santa rosa, a man was found clutching his hand last night. it was an explosion caused by fireworks. all the victims could be charged with using an explosives device. >> one man dead and another injured after a power line fell in oakland last night, electrocuting him. his older brother remains in critical condition tonight. celebratory gunfire shot up into the air, likely caused the wire to come down. 14 people were arrested and 114 citations were issued specifically for fireworks. barrels were set up at fire stations for people to turn in illegal fireworks. this barrel is full. police believe illegal fireworks started a fire. homes had to be evacuated until pg&e shut down power later. nathan hansel was arrested after he threw a large firework at officers trying to clear a crowd. he's charged with felony assault of a police officer, one of 22 people arrested in santa cruz last night. it's a cool night in san francisco. this is a live look from our camera. the weather is going to be heating up >> as the weather heats up, so does the fire danger. one fire tripled in size since last night. it's now just 30% contained. abc 7 news reporter has a look at what fire crews are doing to keep you and your property safe. >> a massive plume of smoke can be seen for miles, the monty cello fire is burning in yolo county. campers were only allowed to return today to pack up what they left behind. >> there was a glow over there, everybody was looking at the glow. the next thing we know we see flames and everybody started flying. >> fed by dry conditions and plenty of vegetation, the fire more than 2rtripled in size to more than 5,000 acres this evening. residents spent the day tracking it to make sure their homes were not in its path. >> the fire service drives up, and they see brush and trees and everything inundating your property, they're going to drive by and find one they can save. >> a temporary shelter has been set up by the red cross. >> we left with injure our clothes on and our car. >> a fast moving fire near i-680. they got several 911 calls from drivers about this fire. that's exactly the kind of awareness we need in this dry weather. >> any spark can set off a fire. >> crews have not determined the cause of the fire in freemont. >> firefighters are getting the upper hand on another fire burning at northwest of lake bariessa. the fire burned two homes and seven other buildings is 75% contained. it charred 3300 acres since it started tuesday. >> one person had to be taken to the hospital after medical supplies helped fuel a house fire in san jose. firefighters say because they arrived quickly, they were able to contain flames to just this home. the entire house was burning when crews arrived. as the fire started. something went wrong with a medical oxygen tank. >> might have been some type of mechanical malfunction within the house. due to one of the residents being on home oxygen that accelerated the fire through the house. that's why it became so big so quick. >> firefighters believe another appliance actually started the fire, the two homes next door were evacuated during the fire. people living in movado had a scare this afternoon when a water main flooded their street. several neighbors called 911, worried their homes would flood as well. water didn't get into any houses, no word as to what caused the break. police are looking for a man they say robbed a bank in burlingame. the suspects wore sunglasses as you see here, a hat and a frilly blue scarf. he handed the teller a note saying he had a note and a bomb. he's described as a white man in his 40s bald and about 5'6". construction work is on schedule. according to caltran, the freeway should reopen by 5:00 monday morning just as planned. crews are replacing a hinge -- another closure is planned for the labor day holiday weekend in september to complete this project. a big change for drivers tomorrow in san francisco. free sunday parking resumes in most areas. the city started charging at parking meters last year. however, you will still need to feed the meters operated by the port of san francisco, those at fisherman's wharf and at&t park on game days. still to come. >> great white shark bit a man swimming off a popular southern california beach. michelle franzen has the details. >> the chilling attack occurred off the water of manhattan beach, where a group of long distance swimmers appear where a fisherman had been struggling to to reel in the great white shark for half an hour. >> the shark ended up biting the swimmer in the torso. >> lifeguards rushed to the man's rescue, bringing him to shore on a bloody surf board. >> there was a lot of water all in the water and on the board. >> officials say his injuries were not believed to be life threatening. and swimmers were ordered out of the water. >> get out of the water. >> get out of the water. >> citing the great white sharks are becoming more and more common on california manhattan beach, frequently filmed by paddle boarders. >> we were known to have baby great white capitals. >> these juveniles are rarely aggressive. the sharks may have been agitated by the line and the battle with the fisherman. >> michelle franzen, abc news, new york. >> this is just the latest in a string of great white shark attacks and sightings on both coasts. it seems like we've been seeing more of them, you're right. according to the national oceanic and atmospheric administration, the white shark population has increased by an estimated 42%. scientists credit their insurgence on trying to change the great white shark's image. a fireworks thundered over head, one family's boxer managed to escape. take a look at java, last night he ran away from a pet villa in santa clara. the dog jumped four fences at the outdoor facility. now, he's ended his vacation early and back in san jose to look for her dog. the aspca can help if your animal runs away. they just released an app to help you find 6:00. opera and baseball came together today for a free live simulcast at at&t park, home of the san francisco giants, of course. tonight's performance was screened live on the 103 foot wide scoreboard. state of the art technology was used to broadcast the music from the san francisco opera and chorus in the baseball stadium. it was a great night for us. >> we'll have several great nights clear skies out there, so the fog will be confined to the coast overnight. temperatures will be warmer tomorrow, then we'll be near 100 degrees inland by monday. i'll show you some of the warmest locations. the forecast animation model shows very little cloud cover overnight into tomorrow morning. most of us will wake up to clear skies. overnight lows will be in the 50s, 54 in san francisco. 57 in san jose. and in general, it's going to be a cool night, but tomorrow look for the heat to expand and continue this hot air mass coming from the desert southwest will bring us warm temperatures all the way into monday. and then we can expect some relief mid week to some of those inland areas. look for warm temperatures in the south bay. even 9 # 7 in morgan hill, low 80s as well through palo alto, 84 in redwood city. but still cool in pacifica as well as in bailey city. downtown san francisco, 68 degrees. look for a lot of 80s in the north bay. petaluma at 85, sonoma 87, napa 88 and 90s as well. calistoga, ukiah, looks like we'll hilt 100. 70s and 80s in the east bay. very pleasant, mile conditions. 70 in san leandro, and it's getting hot inland. i think we can hit 100 in brentwood tomorrow, 99 in antio antioch. 99 in concord and president anton. try to stay cool in the valleys. here's the accuweather 7-day forecast, warm to up. upper to mid-60s along the coast. then we reach 100 on monday. that will probably be the hottest day of the workweek. you start to cool things down mid week, that will be more comfortable for inland areas. and near average toward the end of the last half hour, we've been watching as bart police officers have been searching this station. you can see it's pretty well taped off. i'm going to show you in the distance over there is a bus that is parked. we understand that that is where this shooting happened. it was called in first around 10:17. what we understand from initial reports, is that a male. a victim walked into the bart station with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. that's when the investigation began. that male was taken to eden medical center with what we understand are nonlife threatening injuries. this bart station has been shut down now for more than an hour. trains are passing through, but they are not stopping and from what we understand so far, we've seen a couple ac transit buses coming by, dropping off passengers so there is some confusion as to whether they're able to take the connecting train. they're not obviously, since it is not passing through here. at this point we do not have much more information as to why this shooting happened. obviously this is an investigation that is still in progress. reporting live in heyward, abc 7 news. >> thank you. our breaking news coverage. in tonight's other headlines, a massive fire tripled in size today in yolo county. the monticello fire has burned 5 acres since last night. campers and homes nearby have been evacuated. no structures have been damaged. in polk valley, the bus fire is now 75% contained. it's burned 4300 acres and destroyed two houses and seven other buildings since tuesday. all evacuations have been lists. 4th of july celebrations last night, ended with at least four men injured after a fireworks accident. one man in san jose lost both hands after an illegal firework exploded in his hands. a crisis is growing on the u.s. border to mexico, as thousands of young immigrants are flooding into the u.s. it's led to heated demonstrations in texas and here in california. the immigrants are being flown into our state because of overcrowds in texas. bay area congressman just returned from texas, where he saw firsthand how the communities and migrant families are being affected. cornell bernard has details. >> the crisis in murrieta, california, continues to spill over, as protesters on both sites of the immigration debate refuse to back down. >> the temperature was over 100 degrees, but then it got very politically heated. >> immigrant rights advocate joey johnson was there, as groups of advocates arrived by bus, after crossing into texas illegally. >> we're talking about buses full of children. you know, children that have been traumatized by making a journey, in some cases over 1,000 miles alone from central america. >> what i saw was quite eye opening. >> eric fall well just returned from the texas border, where thousands of unaccompanied children are overwhelming border crossings and being detained for processing. he talked to a 17-year-old from el salvador. >> i asked him why he came here, and he said, better life. and i understand that. you know, he came here to seek what i was born with. >> the children need to be sent back. >> in this case you have to do it on a case by case. if we can find the families of these children, we probably need to return them to their families. >> in the past two weeks, 52,000 children have been apprehended at the boarder. it's complicated sending every child back isn't possible. and adding more border agents isn't the answer. >> until we address the conditions that are leaving them and their families to send them here, they're going to continue to come. >> the white house calls it a humanitarian crisis. president obama will be in texas next week, but so far, a trip to the border is not on the schedule. in san francisco, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. the man who shot videos of a chp officer on the side of the freeway is talking about why he posted the footage online. daniel diaz says the officer chased the woman around a truck after stopping her for walking on the freeway tuesday. the officer was able to event l eventually stop her, what happened next shocked diaz. >> she did what anyone else would do when they're getting pounded, to go like this, to go like this, and now they say, oh, it's an excuse. we're giving too many futures. there's no more rationalizing this, we need to stop this. that's why i posted this video. >> chp hasn't identified the officer, but has placed add m administrative duty. tensions are running high tonight by the killing of an israeli teenager. israeli police officers in riot gear are repeatedly beating him and dragging him away. his parents say he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. the family lawyer took these pictures of him after he was arrested. >> they kind of say, okay, we'll deal with it. but us as americans, it's just -- it's not -- human. >> his 16-year-old cousin was murdered earlier this week for what was thought to be the revenge murder of three israeli jewish teens. he took part in the clashes that followed. relatives in the bay area fear more attacks. >> after that it got worse and worse. now everyone's afraid to even step out of their doors. >> tonight tyreke is being held in custody without charges, the hearing is scheduled before an israeli judge tomorrow morning. palestinian supporters protested outside the israeli consulate in san francisco today. they want an end to the escalation of violence against the palestinians, following the deaths of those three israeli teens. the protesters are calling on the american people to stop funding israel. still to come, it's being called the biggest fraud case ever. michael finney has the warning for you tonight and what you need to look out for. a grocery clerk helped stop a woman from being scammed by a fake irs agent. a san francisco woman was told to avoid arrest, she had to make a payment using a preloaded debit card. while she was using the card. the victim overheard the cell phone conversation and recognized the scam. the clerk intervened and prevented her from using her pin number which allowed the fake agent to access the funds. >> i got a call, i didn't recognize the number, it was a washington, d.c., number. >> the scariest call interrupted a quiet day. >> we go to the answer machine, and there was a guy many. >> the message gave letter a scare. >> calling from the irs, and that there is some type of litigation -- >> do return the call as soon as possible, pending legal action. >> he said, ma'am, let me tell you what we have against you. >> down in pacifica, jeanette jacoby got a similar message. >> do return the call before we take legal obligation against you. >> it scared her into calling back. >> the next thing i know, he's telling me that my taxes weren't in order. >> he told jeanette she owed $8500. she was being charged with tax evasion, police were coming to arrest her. >> we're going to seize all your personal assets, they will have a sheriff out within an hour to arrest me. at the moment, i was going, oh, my god. >> jeanette told the man she would call her accountant. >> she called her accountant and he said it was a big con sweeping the nation right now. crooks posing as irs agents. demanding cash payment. >> so that's when i called you guys. >> sherry didn't fall for it, but wanted us to alert you. we tried to catch the crooks in action. >> when she tells the man she's not using her home phone there's a long pause. >> you have the wrong number -- he hung up. >> jeanette tries to catch the crooks too. >> it's a number from magic jack. >> the schemers use phone lines from magic jack internet phone service. users can be anywhere in the world and clues a number with any area code. the crooks use the 202 area code to appear to be from the irs. we told magic jack about this, and it said magic jack takes all reports of fraud seriously. and investigates them promptly, to take appropriate action, including coordination and cooperation with law enforcement. magic jack encourages consumers to be aware of how to protect themselves from various scams. regardless of the communication method. >> i called 7 on
