The emotions pouring, and departing in hardearned cheers and thunderous chants in the bronx. We do say good morning, america. George is off. Great to have josh back with us. You talked about bob sheppard, the announcer for the yankees. He was welcoming mario rivera for the final time. Sam was asking, why do you call him the sandman . Because you might as well put the game to bed. Oh, yeah. When that man, right there, 42, shows up. One of the games alltime greats. And one of the great gentlemen in sport. We have lost a singular person. We have more on that ahead. Also, were going to hear from two former president s today and this weekend. That was me yesterday, with president george w. Bush. Got a chance to sit down with him. Ask him about his health. And george sitting down with former president bill clinton. Youll hear about that today and sunday on this week. A president ial bofer. President ial bofer. You can always count on you, sam champion, especially on a friday. Lets get right to the breaking story. Scary moments in the skies. A United Airlines flight forced to land mid flight after the pilot suffered a medical emergency while flying. David kerley is at Reagan International airport with the latest on all this. Good morning, david. Reporter this Emergency Landing declared because of one of the pilots who apparently suffered a heart attack in flight. Overnight, drama in the skies. We got a man down. Chest compressions going on right now. Can an ambulance and maybe some air stairs, meet us on the runway. United 1603, well get that going. Reporter the United Airlines flight bound for seattle, makes an Emergency Landing in boise. The pilot suffering an apparent heart attack. Knowing time is essential, the copilot, with 161 passengers onboard from houston, asked to immediately pull off the runway for help. Hes going to stop on the runway. And then, theyll bring the stairs out to him. Smoky 7, smoky 9, and engine 7 will proceed to taxiway alpha. I saw them working on the captain. They immediately told us they are working on our decent. The main problem is take care of the problem. Reporter a problem that other pilots in the air are hearing unfold. What was going on with united . A medical emergency. Their captain. Thats never good. Nope. Reporter United Airlines tells abc news, the flight landed safely. And paramedics met the plane upon arrival and transported the crew member to the hospital. Passengers onboard said the airline did a good job. Im really impressed with all much the flight attendants. They kept themselves calm. They kept everybody professional. There was no panic on the plane. The kind of thing you dont ever expect to ever happen. Reporter unfortunately, the hospital in boise tells abc news that the pilot died. That pilots family has been notified. Josh . David, we are certainly thinking of that pilots family today. Thank you for that. Were going to turn, now, to the massive hunt for the mostwanted woman in the world right now. You see her here. She is called the white widow. Authorities say shes tied to terrorism and may be linked to the kenya mall massacre. Now, an International Arrest warrant is out for her. And brian ross is here with the very latest. Good morning, brian. Reporter good morning, josh. British police will be seeking dna samples from the family of the socalled white widow, samantha lewthwaite, according to u. S. Officials. The point is to see if the dna matches with any of the female bodies discovered in the rebel of the Westgate Mall in kenya. Overnight, police around the world received the official interpol web notice, a global arrest warrant for the 29yearold lewthwaite, now one of the most wanted women in the world. Samantha lewthwaite has been a wanted person for a number of years now. Reporter authorities in kenya have no hard evidence of her involvement of what happened here. But theyre seeking to see if she was involved in the brutal attack. Based on her known ties to african terror groups and eyewitness accounts that a mystery woman was part of the attack. She looked like a woman. My instinct was a woman throwing a grenade at us. Reporter Counter Terror experts say lewthwaite has been actively involved with the Al Shabaab Group that claimed responsibility for the massacre. She wants to die or martyr herself on behalf of that group. Reporter lewthwaite grew up in a small town north of london. Over 15 years time, went from schoolgirl to party girl. To wife of one of the terrorists who carried out suicide attacks on the london subway and bus system in 2005. After the attacks, lewthwaite, a mother of two, denied knowledge of her husbands al qaeda ties. And Family Friends said she was a decent girl. Very innocent. Lacking confidence. Shy. Easy to get on with. Reporter since then, Authorities Say lewthwaite slipped out of england with her children, and joined up with the african terrorists. Traveling to kenya, on a foreign South African passport under the name of natalie faye webb. She has been wanted for another attack on a nightclub in kenya. And the interpol notice today reflects an urgency to find her, whether she was involved in that mall attack or not, josh. Youll be on top of that, brian. Now to washington where tension is high after a looming Government Shutdown now less than four days away. Both sides not giving in. Time is running out. You see the clock there. Abcs Jonathan Karl is on top of it all from the white house and joins us with the latest. Jon, is there any hope for a resolution here . Reporter not much, robin. As the clock ticks down towards shutdown, theres no real sign of progress anywhere. The senate is going to be in session through the weekend. They will, i believe, pass a bill that would fund the government, just for a month and a half or so, over the weekend. But heres the thing. Speaker of the house john boehner has already said that the House Republicans will not accept that bill because it does not defund obama care. Theyre going to make changes. The back and forth is going to go on. Were going to get closer and closer. Heres the thing, robin. Far more dire is whats going to happen in about two weeks later, which is the government hits the amount of money it can borrow. It maxes out its credit card. If they dont raise their ability to borrow money, we could face default. With dire economic consequences. Thats it right there. What are the chances the government will shut down and default and not be able to pay the bills . Reporter i say the chances are getting greater with each passing hour. Ill tell you this. Leaders in both parties that ive spoken to, think at the very least, a shutdown is more likely than not. I would put the odds of shutdown and default at 50 50. And i may be being optimistic. All right, jon, thank you. As always. And george will have an exclusive interview with former president bill clinton, who is weighing in on all of this. You can catch it sunday morning on abcs this week, with george. And so, with josh here, amys over there. And you have the rest of the news. Thats right. Good morning, everyone. We begin with some breaking news about chemical inspections in syria. Weve learned overnight, those inspections will begin by tuesday. In addition, syrias entire chemical arsenal is set to be destroyed in the First Six Months of 2014. Formal approval is set for later today. And happening right now, a desperate search for survivors at the site of a collapsed Apartment Building in india. Just a short time ago, an amazing moment of hope as a baby was pulled out alive after being in that trouble for 11 hours. And more trouble from the nsas spying capability. The agencys inspectorgeneral said some employees have been eavesdropping on their lovers. That apparently happened a dozen times in the past decade, at least. Dramatic new video from the boston subway system, a 33yearold man falls on to the tracks, laying right between the rails. Several others jumped down. They quickly carried him to safety. Guess what . The man admitted to having a couple of drinks to celebrate passing his medical boards. Wow. Let that be a warning to one and all. A french climber scaling a glacier from the alps, found a very old pouch from india. Guess what was inside. A box full of uncut exotic gem stones. Sapphires, emeralds, rubies. Worth well over 300,000. The gems are believed to have come from an air india plane crash in the 50s or 60s. And finally, a chilling story. Luck or divine intervention was part of this. Surveillance cameras were rolling when a man entered a ft. Worth mcdonalds looking to shoot people. He aims and pulls the trigger repeatedly. But guess what. His gun wouldnt fire. He goes outside to say, whats wrong . He fires off a shot. He comes back in, looking to kill more people. Again, pulling the trigger, to no avail. He runs off. No one was injured. Five people were in the line of fire. Police eventually caught that man. Good. Thank god that gun didnt work. That says a lot. Amy, thank you. Were going to turn, now, to medical news. A call to action, really. Health officials sounding the alarm, urging everyone to get vaccinated against the flu and do it right now. Abcs chief health and medical editor, dr. Richard besser, here with much more. Rich, again, they are really getting out in front of it this year. They are. Each the thing to know every year about the flu is, we cannot predict when its going to start or how severe its going to be. A lot of people say, if its a severe year, im going to get a shot. The problem is, it takes two weeks for that vaccine to start working. Best to get the vaccine as early as it is available. And we hear sometimes vaccine running low, but this year, theyve rally stockpiled. They really stockpiled. Theres more than 70 million doses out there. Twice that number will be coming. And you have choices. You have the standard flu vaccine, with a needle. And a nasal vaccine, thats a spray. For kids or anyone under history. Theres a high dose for the elderly. A shot for people allergic to eggs. A tiny needle for people afraid of needles. Theres no reason not to get a flu shot. Put me down for the microneedle. You mentioned children. Yes. More children than ever before, 57 , vaccinated. But this needs to start with the very young. Everyone over 6 months is recommended to get a flu shot. You get vaccinated to protect yourself. Also, people that cant protect themselves. Kids under 6 months. People who have cancer. Last year, a big Vaccine Campaign to protect robin, everyone around here. Thats another reason to vaccinate. I got mine at a pharmacy last year. That easy to get them this year . Pharmacies have them. Theyre out there. Time to get vaccinated. I appreciated everyone doing that last year. I couldnt get a shot. Im getting one later today. Fantastic. Will i get a lollipop . Ill bring you one. Thank you, rich. Ill hold you to it. Now, to the headlines of one of americas rising political stars, popular newark mayor and new Jersey Senate candidate, cory booker. Facing questions about his twitter conversation with a stripper. And abcs dan harris is here with that. Good morning, dan. Reporter robin, you cannot make this stuff up. What an unlikely combination. And upandcoming politician and a stripper who works at a vegan strip club. Cory booker, mayor of newark, new jersey, and democratic candidate for a u. S. Senate seat, has aggressively cultivated an image of a hip, swashbuckling politician. His superactive twitter account with 1. 4 million followers is part of that. So are his superhuman exploits, like shoveling constituents out during blizzards. But this image of a heavilytattooed stripper from portland, oregon, this is not part of bookers plan. Her name is lynsie lee. She tweets out topless pictures and pictures of cash she earns. And released this private twitter conversation, in which she tells the mayor that the west coast loves him. The mayor who is 44 and single, says the east coast loves you. And by the east coast, i mean me. To which lee responds, well, now im blushing. Its only fair, says booker. Responding to people which i do every, single day. Its about listening to people and engaging with people. No matter what their profession. Reporter the mayor, three weeks away from a special election in the senate race, defended the tweets, saying he communicates with thousands of people. I dont study peoples profile. Ive tweeted people back. From all different types of backgrounds. Its not something i Pay Attention to. When somebodys kind to me, i often say thank you. Reporter as for lee, who works at a place called casa diablo, who bills itself as the first vegan strip club, who serves burgers and burritos, but no meat, she says she hopes booker doesnt unfollow her. If it hurts his campaign, i will feel guilty. But i would want it to be for a viable reason. Reporter lets be clear. This is no Anthony Weiner situation. Booker didnt send raunchy pictures or explicit messages. Still, the timing is undoubtedly awkward. The Senate Election is next month. While hes 12 points up, the race has been tightening. Tough times. Well see you this weekend, dan. You will. You couldnt make that up, dan. Its stranger than fiction, for sure.
