transit won't be solved before monday leaving riders wondering again if buses will run this weechblgtd today the union asked a judge to interseed. -- interior seed what. did the judge have to say to that? >> reporter: she said she needs to think bit for a little while in the monday. ac transit says it has to close a projected $56 million budget deficit over two years. and that it had to impose a contract for a quick $16 million savings. >> ac transit bus drivers and mechanics have been working under an imposed contract since july 18th. today, lawyers for their union were in an alameda county courtroom asking a judge to lift that contract and put things back as they were before the 18th. lawyers for ac transit were there, too, arguing their side the judge said she'll decide monday at the earliest. in the meantime, drivers say they'll continue to work. >> we said we're going to work. we're working. we're working. my members are we working? yes. >> and a key legal question is whether either side broke rules of an agreement made with another judge when the contract expired with no deal, both sides agreed to go to finding arbitration. this is with certain rules in the meantime. >> the rules... are that we don't strike. and that the district don't impose. we have not striked. and we have not -- we're not on a sickout. we're working. but the district is imposed. >> we're saying in the courtroom today is that how -- how is how does the district get away saying that the union can't strike. but at the same time, it can impose? >> ac transit says the union is staging an organized sickout, causing service disruptions. >> riders experiencing missed buses every day because drivers, 15-20% of them aren't coming to work. it's breaking what they pledged to the judge. it's breaking really promises to serve taxpayers in the riders of ac transit. >> this is to suffer as a result of it. you know? we're not a part of the conflict. we're patronizing and have places to get. and that will be horrible. and this is just complicate bid this funding. >> and ac transit says if the judge overturns the imposed contract witness will have no choice but to layoff drivers and possibly eliminate weekend service in order to stay alive financially. the yun says says the absentee nix is not a sickout but result of sudden schedule changes by ac transit which has put drivers or he took a worker hostage at gun point overnight at children's hospital. >> the drama began around 3:15 a.m. witnesses say the 49-year-old grabbed a female staffer inside of the emergency room. police officers arrive atd the hospital just minutes late yir and he immediately surrendered. nobody was hurt. investigators believe he was the same man who forced a woman out of her -- and stole her car in a gas station just minutes before. he is charged with car jacking and false imprisonment and being an exfelon in possession of a firearm. >> police released a surveillance image of a man wanted for two attempted bank robberies saturday, july 17th. first just after 9:00 in a wells fargo bank. the second about 90 minutes later in a wells fargo on 40th street but the suspect never got money there. is a $5,000 reward for information leading to a conviction. >> palo alto police release aid sketch of a man wanted in a string of home burglaries has been seen outside of the homes with a boy about 10 years old and have taken place within the past two weeks. are. a wildfire in los angeles county is threatening 2000 homes and structures. and this afternoon it's now burning close to a palmdale neighborhood. this is a live picture. about 5% contained and that is where leo stallworth joins us with the latest. leo? >> this is a beast. and in this community, of palmdale, just beyond homes you can see here which is called delta ridge community. firefighters have just finished trying to beat back flames that hit the trees in that area. not more than a quarter mile. i won't say a quarter mile behind these homes. there are at least 100 homes in this area. and they have had to undergo a one incredible air assault just beyond these homes, putting down flames. and they managed to do that. problem is that they don't know if the ire is out. there are hot spots there. every time it comes with air assault, flames come back again, here we are, back in the same situation. a lot of the area has been evacuated. hundreds and hundreds of residents in the community have been evacuated. i'm standing with a resident now rifing in this community near delta ridge watching this unfold and it is shocking. >> it's amazing. i've lived here since 92 never seen flames getting this clo.s it's against the backyard of the community w way the wind picked up here in the last mour two, hours, it could jump and that is what is scary part. >> and with that wind wiping -- whipping. the embers falling everywhere gets into your throat choking you up that. is one of the problems you're dealing with and i'm dialing w if the calms to evacuate, we're ready to go and will take dogs and cat. we'll take what we can go and we've got the cars ready to go. >> now, out in palmdale, lancaster it's called high desert. very dry. talking to this resident just minutes ago. and he was saying that wow. one of the issues he had is if it caught, if a fire happened, if a fire ever occurred in this community, was going to be big. >> as you can see, if it makes it across the road there is nothing to stop it until it gets to the next subdivision. flames coming through the valley here. it's a dangerous area. the fighters are fantastic. we've seen them from burbank, pasadena, glendale, manhattan beach. santa claire reeta. from all over the area well. appreciate this. and the water retardant, 7:47 helicopters
