Cbs 2 News Reporter Connor Morgan spoke with students who say theyre afraid. School is supposed to be a place of acceptance but some iowa city students say thats no longer the case. People are using the election, the results of the election as an excuse to discriminate against others openly. Theres a lot of kids who dont feel welcome students accept them. While some chalk it up to childhood antics these students say high school is no place for hate. There are people that are being shoved. There have been several instances where people are being called the n word or told to go back to their own country. What do you say when someone tells you to go back home . You dont have a place to go to. This is where youve been your whole life. So these High Schoolers are setting aside their rivalry to join hands for a common goal. Theres just been a lot of hate going around in our schools and we want to shut that down we started this movement as a reaction to the hate and discrimination but now were trying to move forward into ways to prevent further hate and discrimination against our students. The kids arent the only ones speaking out i came to support my grandchildren and other students, because i have the same background in my history. As a high school student, i was an activist. Bruce clark wore a black armband to protest the vietnam war paving the way for free speech in schools. I look forward to them building that kind of movement themselves.
