breaking news overnight - the oklahoma man that's been on the run for more than a week - is now dead.he was shot and killed by police officers o. overnight.police in several states had been on the lookout for michael vance junior. was killed in a shootout 130 miles northwest of oklahoma city.that massive manhunt began last sunday - after he allegedly killed two relatives and shot two police officers. a waukon man is in jail this morning - 35-year-old leslie ashbacker junior sped off when an officer tried to pull him over for speeding.a short chase ended with ashbacher ramming a parked car - sending it 90 feet. the suspect threatened someone in a nearby apartment - with a sword.right now - he's facing several traffic violations and could soon face more charges. a washington county man is now recovering at atuniveristy of iowa hospitals after he was thrown from his a-t-v. yesterday morning - the iowa state patrol confirmed - 23-year-old ryan schultz - was driving on the shoulder of highway 1 in washington county - when the front rack of his a-t-v came loose. the rack hit schultz and he lost control the a-t-v. schultz was airlifted to u-i-h-c. the iowa state patrol is investigating. the countdown to election day is now in single digits - eight days.eight days until you cast your ballots and they're tallied up.with the day quickly approaching - this week eastern iowa will see more big campaign visits. visits.on wednesday - democratic vice presidential candidate tim kaine and former president bill clinton are both stopping in iowa.kaine will attend a "get out the president clinton will join him later for an event in des moines. "hillary's faced challenges before, she's not distracted - calling on fbi , look now that you have thrown this question mark out and already had to backtrack, look you ought to put all the details out for the american public to see instead of doing this big question mark right before the " election."the purpose of kaine's visit this week is to encourage early voting in iowa. right now cbs 2 news is tracking the latest trends in national polling.a full slate of new surveys show the race for president is tightening up. up.take a look at the latest polling average from real clear politics.democrat hillary clinton's lead over republican donald trump has narrowed to just over three points nationwide.a battleground poll shows clinton is maintaining a lead in most toss-up states. the 20-16 election cycle has been one of the hardest for typically chooses the right winner.but cbs 2 news political reporter kevin barry explains how this year - in person - why city council rejected plans for affordable housing. housing.cbs 2 news first told you last week - the council didn't have enough votes to move forward on the crestwood apartment plan near edgewood road northwest.supporters say the multi-million dollar development would set aside units to help homeless people. 500 neighbors signed a petition against it - which caused city leaders to reconsider the proposal altogether.the mayor's meeting with the leader of the jaycees is scheduled for tonight. additional buildings that will be designed into their new athletic center. the 12-million dollar project was announced more than two years ago and will incorporate state-of-the-art equipment. now - the project will also include more space. president laurie hay-men announced the wendt building and adjacent warehouse have been bought by the school. tonight - new on the cbs 2 live at five - we're looking into the latest efforts to make iowa students wear seat belts in school buses.just last week student was sent to the hospital when a car plowed into the back of the bus near springville.starting today - des moines schools will be the first in the state to buckel their kids up.that story - this evening - on the cbs 2 live at five saint judes childrens hospital now has more money to help it's children toda - thanks to about 20 veterans from the corridor who came together this weekend.they -- and their motorcycles -- will be featured in a calendar to it's all through a group of people trying to raise 10- thousand dollars -- so far they're about halfway to their goal.the calendar should be ready by the holidays. it's and right now in it's de. degrees.coming up next - eight people from iowa have been arrested along the pipeline in the western part of the state. state.those arrests happened over the weekend at a farm about 40 miles west of fort dodge.they're facing charges of trespassing. trespassing.and here's video as more protesters were arrested in north dakota - near the standing rock sioux tribe's reservation.nearly 150 people have been arrested there in the past week.this was the scene early yesterday morning as several fires were started by demonstrators. happening right now at the university of iowa -- --police are investigating a reported case of sexual assault on campus.authorities tell cbs 2 happened late saturday night at a dorm on the east side of campus.university leaders are recquired to report any claim of sexual assault for campus safety. new questions this morning - over the body camera policy at one of iowa's three public univ. universities.iowa state campus police started wearing body cameras this past summer - but the des moines register found out - their policy isn't public knowledge.that's because the department hasn't hasn't set a timeline on when one will be written. the des moines register reports - the justice department recommends agencies have policies in place before using body cameras.it also gives the public an understanding of when cameras should be on or off. since isu officers started using body cameras - three of their nearly 300 arrests involved weapons. following the flood 20-16 - crews are still dealing with clean up. up.there were hundreds leftover...and the city contracted quality construction services to pick up residential bags and remove the sand.right now - they are using a machine called a trommel to help pick up the pace.operators can put hundreds of pounds of bags through a large tumbler that sorts the bags from the sand. we've come a considerable way i think we're between 20 and 25% of what we started with my best estimate would be about another 3 weeks possibly a month give or take. 10 piling up at wendling quarry in robins where the work is going on and eventually it will all be reused for other projects. the f-b-i has now obtained a search warrant to start reviewing the newly discovered emails that could be tied to democratic presidential nominee hillary clinton. clinton.those emails - hardworking public servant. servant.if re-elected this time and he serves his full term - grassley will have represented iowa for 42 years in the senate. the fate of three iowa supreme court justices will be in the hands of voters next week. chief justice mark cady and justices brent appel and daryl marrage in iowa seven years ago.this is the first time you get to decide whether they stay on the bench since that ruling. iowa voters can choose to retain members of the high court every eight years.social conservatives are again calling for their removal.the judges say they will not actively campaign for their jobs. there will be a game six for chicago - "and i just said, wow, 784 pregnant moms. what's their greatest need? and she said, joe, you know, diapers. average diapers cost $80 a month.""that really adds up quick and for a family that's living paycheck to paycheck trying to find out their next meal, where it's coming from, their goal of 100,000 diapers would not only help local moms - but would bring national aid.
