" " i'll tell you what, women and men across america know that is just a really weak excuse for behaving badly and mistreating people." tonight on t-v nine news at six, presidential debates could affect voters in this election. there's now less than 30 days until election day. and the candidate attack ads are getting more heated. the most recent attack ad against monica vernon questions her pay raises and who she supported while she was on the cedar rapids city council. she's running to represent the first congressiona l district against incumbent rod blum. wep the t-v nine and gazette fact checker. "receiving 4 taxpayer funded salary increases" the first part of this ad is one we've checked before. vernon received four pay raises mandated by city code to match the cost of living... adding up to about 18-hunbred dollars over 8 years. "vernon made a habit of doling out deals for developers who donated to her campaign" this is the more serious accusation in the ad... and the n-r-c-c cites several examples. in one - vernon voted in 2013 to support a cedar rapids casino. donated to her congressiona l campaign. in another - vernon voted for tax breaks and agreements with frew development group to lead the westdale mall rennovation. around the times of those votes, frew's president, john frew, made several donations to vernon's campaign. frew and skogman also donated to other city council member's campaigns. it's a common practice for developers to support pro- development candidates. we also found an example when redevelop the knutson building from hobart historic renovations. that's despite the fact that jim hobart donated to vernon's campaign a month later. it is true vernon voted for projects of developers who also donated to her campaign. but the ad suggests vernon was engaged in pay-for-play while on the city council. but there is no proof vernon voted a certain way because of donations to her campaign - "the quantity of responses that we receive will help us create a high quality data set that we can be utilizing to ensure that we are helping the local economy recover over the shortest possible time fram interested in taking the survey, they should contact the cedar rapids economic development services or the cedar rapids metro economic alliance. two northeast iowa counties are getting some state help to clean up after flooding along the turkey river. governor branstad issued a disaster proclamation for winneshiek and clayton counties. both took on heavy flooding that started on september 21st, about three weeks ago. this means that people who qualify could get help the red cross is taking nominations for heroes who'll get recognition at the annual hy-vee heroes game between iowa and nebraska. judges will choose one hero from each state, and they will be honored at the game next month. you can nominate someone on the red cross website from now until october 24th. bringing the food to the people. that's the goal of a new mobile food pantry. the crisis center of johnson county rolled need in the county. that story is next here on the crisis center of johnson county rolled out a new program today. it's a mobile food pantry. it'll kcrg t-v nine's mark carlson joins us now. mark, this will help meet a need in the county? bruce and beth. the concern was that not enough people were able to get to the food pantry. so this really helps solve that issue. once a month the new pantry will visit three sites in the county. for now those sites are the forest view mobile home court, the breckenridge estates. at those sites volunteers and workers will offer the food pantry for three hours or so. people in the community can then come and pick up food for their families. right now the program is just launching, members of the crisis center of johnson county say they have big goals for the future.
