" we would hope that we could come together and maybe make some kinds of corrections at least " " we are making good headway. but it takes some time. this is a iowa has about 560,000 people who use medicaid. a cedar rapids woman says she'll never use a h-t-c phone again after hers exploded. patricia dampier says she tried to answer a call when her phone froze. just a few seconds later, she noticed white smoke appear from the battery. she threw the phone to the edge of her bed. it instantly started to burn the sheets and mattress. patricia then yelled for help and her cousin rushed in. "41:50, "the phone starting sparking soh was smoking and sparking on the floor " patricia and her cousin were able to put it out. firefighters say the battery of the h-t-c phone exploded. governor branstad wants 70 percent of iowa's workforce to have more than a high school education by 20-25. he began working on that goal when he signed an executive order at the career academy of pella yesterday. it creates the "future ready iowa alliance." year on how the state can reach that goal. the alliance must also set benchmarks to show the state is making progress. one benchmark includes reducing socioeconomic, ethnic, and racial achievement gaps among elementary and secondary school children. dozens of people took over greene square in downtown cedar rapids to talk about some of the "flashpoint" social issues of the day. they also protested religious intolerance and unequal treatment by police. those messages were part of a larger mission for the the group, "positive words and actions." it formed in january in response to political messages that its organizers say don't represent american ideals. one member hopes yesterday's speakers and a short march around downtown will led to some change locally. "i hope eventually, by strengthening these positive attitudes, we'll have a good influence on our policy decisions." the group also say they demonstrated to support in urbana. urbana solar acres is at becca industrial park. the seven acre site with more than 35-hundred panels will power more than 100 homes when it's running in mid-october. this project is a partnership between cipco and the east central iowa r-e-c. the r-e-c decided to make the solar power switch after customers asked for cleaner energy. "we get calls every week on questions about solar energy, putting their own panels up, or community solar projects, it's really popular right now." energy company leaders say customers can expect similar if not the same price on their bills. governor terry branstad says that hillary clinton's plan for the environment is extreme. branstad made the comments yesterday while at an event in pella. branstad says a lot of the democratic presidential environmental extremists in california. he says the low carbon standard in california discriminates against corn based ethanol. "that would be devastating to the iowa economy with 43 corn-based ethanol plants in our state. that's why trump's support for, not only renewable fuel standard but corn-based ethanol, is critically important to jobs in iowa and to the health of the farm economy." "we lived together for 4/4 years and that's when i met sister paula because they worked at the same clinic so we became friends " " sister rose says her faith is getting her through this difficult time. sanders, the man arrested for the nuns' murders also has an iowa connection. he was in prison from conviction of 2nd degree robbery. sanders also served time in iowa for a third degree o-w-i and theft. the clayton county supervisors have approved rezoning more land for a sand mining company that has been mining silica sand for years. the pattison sand company wanted the change for more than 700 acres of land, giving it the option to mine the property in the future. the supervisors passed the second and third readings of the rezoning yesterday, industrial. the supervisors are also requiring the mining to be underground. pattison has to implement a well monitoring program... and it also must pay for any well damage from the mining. pattison still needs a conditional use permit from the clayton county board of adjustment. dakota access has asked a federal judge in des moines to issue a restraining order against two protest groups and their leaders. it's against iowa citizens for community improvement and bold iowa. the groups are planning ways to block construction along the oil pipeline route, iowa. this is video of protestors in north dakota last week. dakota access says protestors have burned some of their equipment, causing three million dollars in property damage. protestors released a statement, saying big oil does not get to restrict their freedom of speech while protecting property rights and water. governor terry branstad says if protestors try to stop construction of the pipeline, he'll authorize the iowa state patrol to deal with them. the governor says troopers would the nearly 12 hundred mile pipeline would send oil from north dakota to illinois. branstad says protestors should accept the iowa utility board's approval of the project. a dubuque man is facing a felony robbery charge after police say he threatened a man with a knife. police say on wednesday, 26 year old thomas ostrander robbed a man at his home... ...on north cascade road. court documents show he took a necklace, wallet, watch and cell phone. police caught up to ostrander near the appearance thursday morning. as thousands of people were leaving kinnick stadium saturday night, police were chasing a 20 year old. it ended when dylan sockness, crashed into a house. the 20 year old is from wisconsin and faces multiple charges including a o-w-i and child endangerment . police say he had a 16 year old girl with him who'd run away from her home in wisconsin. here's the house on olive court in iowa city where the chase but police say the driver narrowly missed people directing traffic and concert goers - and speeds reached 100 miles per hour on melrose avenue. the world of comedy has lost legendary actor gene wilder. the two-time oscar nominee was perhaps best known for playing a magical factory owner in "willy wonka and the chocolate factory." as jeanne moos reports, wilder knew how not to grow up and how to keep people laughing. willy wonka has left this world.... natsot/willy wonka clip: "want to change the actor gene wilder changed it with his performances, from his oscar-nominated role in the producers to his other oscar- nominated role in "young frankenstein." natsot/dr. frankenstein clip: "dr frankenstein?
