are testing positive for the west nile virus and boulder, weld and larimer counties and officials say up to 90% of the insects tested have the potential to carry the disease. colorado has seen 13 cases in humans so far this year and colorado's first death from west nile was announced last week, cbs4's melissa garcia is live in denver with more and melissa health officials are encouraging residents to help cut down on the risk.>>reporter: they are and one of the things that people really should focus on doing is draining any standing water from their property. even as little as a tablespoon of water which could come rainwater barrel can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. officials say they are seeing fewer mosquitoes this year but do not let that fool you, they are saying a whole lot more west nile virus and they are taking action. fort collins residents to cover inside their homes as trucks sprayed pesticides to kill mosquitoes on contact.>> the sooner the better, the neighborhood needs to be sprayed if we have this is one of three high-risk zones sprayed and larimer county and researchers a colorado mosquito control is seeing a surge in the number of police officer shot and killed an unarmed black man and cbs4's brian webb reports the area on edge. >>reporter: neighbors on milwaukee's north side came together sunday morning to clean up after four buildings in several cars were set on fire. a gas station burned into the ground and about 100 protesters faced off with police suited up in riot gear saturday night.>> you have a city riot going on because once again the police have failed to protect us like they say they would. >> the violence started a few hours after police officer shot and killed during a traffic stop, the 23- year-old ran the police say and had a loaded gun in his hand, investigators say that smith had a lengthy arrest record. >> the officers were in the neighborhood yesterday afternoon to preserve the safety of this widening stretches of yosemite street. the project is not expected to wrap up until the summer of 2018. the closure of arapahoe road begins at 10 pm tonight and it will not reopen until 5 am so it is areas the situation is still very dangerous. >> the waters will continue to rise in many areas and so this down. a >> flooding is also paralyzed travel in the region, roads and highways are underwater and close to causing backups like this. the governor says more than 7000 people have been rescued since the heavy rain started friday. one woman cried tears of joy after learning that her parents made emergency in the governor is asked for federal disaster declaration and the governor says more than 5000 people are in shelters. meteorologist chryst spears is tracking the storm in louisiana on radar and is there any relief in sight? >> temporary relief but i think it will get worse before being better, not only for louisiana the region, a stationary front and that is a line of convergence in the atmosphere and at the moment south louisiana catching a break but there is so much moisture in the region among the stalled frontal boundary. current indications are this front was it through at least wednesday and possibly into thursday. as a several days of rain could be on the way and no doubt there is a widespread flood advisories across this region all along the front. if we look at some of the rain totals this is mind blowing and it is hard inches of rain in four days in watson louisiana not too far from baton rouge, several places, monticello and jackson and wakefield all on the 20+ inches of rain in this four-day time spent. they have so much and we could use some of that water here but unfortunately not a lot of water an hour forecast but maybe we have hope going for the weekend and i will talk a few. right now there is a manhunt in georgia for the suspect in a deadly shooting of a police officer which happened in the small city of eastman. police identified the shooter as 24-year-old rahim deeds who killed officer tim smith last night when smith responded to a call about a suspicious person. happening out there is growing pressure on isis is kurdish fighters launch several tax on the terrorist group and the respect forces liberated several villages in northern iraq and officials say 120 ices fighters were killed. new video showing some of the nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by boko around more than two years ago, will exchange the girls they say for fighters and some of the girls were killed by airstrikes in nigeria and 40 have been married off. they warn the girls will never return alive if the government tries to rescue them. metal detectors at airports turned up at an air point - airport checkpoint and rick salinger looks at the potential new security threat.>>reporter: it looks like a real gun but it is made out of plastic and it even had bullets alongside it. where it was found provided some verification for the fears of law enforcement authorities. it was in an airport security checkpoint at the reno/tahoe international airport nevada. this is why authorities are so concerned, this gun was made from a 3-d printing machine, the plans to create one were made available to all on the internet and they were placed there by a texas man named cody wilson heard>> people are saying now this is about more than guns and it is by the freedom of information and regulation of the internet.>> the state department had and take them down that many files have been downloaded and this using a laser, 3-d printing shapes for future missions. after a seven-year ban diet soda could make a comeback in colorado public high schools, last week the state board of education debated ringing that beverage back. and for seven years now you have not been able to snag a soda in the colorado public schools, state healthy beverage standards did not allow pop, not even diet. >> this is a healthy beverage policy, diet soda is not a healthy beverage and doesn't belong in our schools.>> that has been the thinking but on wednesday the state board of education took up a proposal to lift the ban on diet soda to held in grand junction through the board's website.>> i believe parents expect us to do what we can to protect kids.>> i know a lot of parents who are tired of schools dictating what their children eat, see and tomorrow and as it comes across it will bring a batch of clouds and kick up showers, widely scattered but there is a chance. as it pulls onto the eastern plains they die off during the evening hours. the big weather story we are watching besides the hot start to the week and the rising fire danger is this right here, high pressure over the western and wednesday retro grades back to the pacific ocean. wednesday it tries to build a ridge of the west coast of the us and if this happens it will bring down a batch of cool air on the front side rolling in the thursday night and friday. if this all works out just like we showed you that cooldown could be pretty significant and i will show you here on the five day forecast. tonight mild, 50s and 60s along and east of interstate 20 five and 40s for the higher elevations with a for grand junction. tomorrow almost repeat of today and back into the 80s and 90s statewide with the 70s and low 80s up high and the main difference tomorrow a showers. there is the change on friday kathy. there is one computer model i looked at before i came on air it is almost possible to say that cool this time of year so i will go mid-70s anticipating
