iowa's news leader. steve: new information in a serious car-versus-pedestrian crash that shut down interstate 35 in west des moines for hours overnight. it happened right after 11:00 monday night just south of mills civic parkway. police say a driver got out of his car after he was in an accident. he was walking in the travel-portion of i-35 when he was hit by another vehicle. the driver of that vehicle stopped immediately. no charges are expected. the pedestrian was taken to a area hospital for treatment. police have not released his identity. stacey: new at 5:00 authorities , say a man stole a pick-up truck, then led them on a high speed chase. 33-year-old andrew jensen faces the truck was reported stolen from the jefferson hy-vee around 9:00 monday night. two hours later, perry police reported finding the truck at a kum & go. officers chased the truck, using stop stakes on highway -- using stop sticks on highway 169. jensen got out and ran into a field before being arrested. the case remains under investigation. steve: a pella coffeehouse went up in flames overnight. it happened just after 10:00 monday at the coffee cup cafe. p.m. all available crews were called in to battle the blaze. no word yet on what started the fire or if anyone was hurt. a water main break in ames triggers a boil order. a contractor working on the new water treatment plant hit a large water main around 3:30 monday afternoon. city officials say about 160 residents and 100 businesses are impacted. the water should be safe to drink by this evening. months, a national poll shows donald trump is not leading the republican presidential race. primary voters surveyed back ben carson for the nomination. that's compared to 22% for trump. three other polls show carson leading trump here in iowa. carson and trump will take center stage tomorrow at the third republican presidential debate. will participate. jeb bush, marco rubio, ted cruz, mike huckabee, rand paul, carly john kasich. you can watch the two hour night. steve: as for the democrats new , numbers show hillary clinton now with a commanding lead in iowa. the monmouth university poll shows 65% of likely democratic caucus-goers back clinton. meanwhile senator bernie sanders , is still a distant second at 24%. clinton will go toe-toe tonight with late show host stephen colbert right here on kcci. bernie sanders, jeb bush, and steve: new at 5:00 -- new at 5:00 an iowa prosecutor has , decided not to file charges, over allegations that a land agent offered to hire a prostitute for a landowner, if he would allow an oil pipeline company access to his land. lee county attorney mike short says there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute. short says it's likely that the landowner set up a meeting with the agent to embarrass the pipeline company. stacey: new at 5:00, truckers against trafficking. the iowa d.o.t. is teaming up with the organization to combat human trafficking in iowa, nebraska, south dakota, and minnesota. authorities say truckers are important in fighting trafficking because traffickers are constantly moving their victims from one location to another even across state lines. >> the strategic role trucking can actually play as additional eyes and ears out there on our nation's highways and how they can work with truck stop members to put a dent in the business of trafficking. stacey: there will be training for truckers to identify what human trafficking looks like. the white house is honoring an iowa farmer for promoting sustainable practices. tim smith of eagle grove is being recognized for his work with the iowa soybean association and other groups to implement farming methods designed to strengthen soil health and improve water quality. he was one of twelve farmers karlin, stacey horst, and chf meteorologist john mclaughlin. steve: the threat of a government shutdown and national debt crisis may be averted. congressional leaders have reached a major budget deal with the white house. stacey: kcci's sally kidd is live in washington. sally, it's a bipartisan agreement, but not everyone supports it, right? sally: that's right. the agreement would increase federal spending by $80 billion but conservative lawmakers aren't happy. a budget breakthrough. representative boehner it's a : solid agreement and i told my colleagues there isn't any reason why any member should vote against this. sally: the two year plan lifts caps on defense and domestic spending and raises the debt ceiling through march 2017. it also prevents a huge hike in medicare premiums and deep reductions in social security disability benefits. sen. murray: congress can do its job when republicans push the tea party aside and work with us to get results. sally: house speaker boehner says the agreement helps clean the barn before a new speaker, presumably congressman paul ryan, takes the gavel. rep. boehner: i didn't want him to walk into a dirty barn full of you know what, so i've done my best to clean it up. rep. ryan: i think this process stinks. under new management, we are not going to do the people's business this way. sally: ryan upset about the lack of transparency while some conservative lawmakers say it only reflects the will of a lame duck speaker. and some fiscal watchdogs agree. see is their tax dollars increase as a direct result of it's a concern because that apparently got out of control is now triggering all kinds of reaction across the country, and even from the fbi. kevin cooney is following that story right now. kevin: steve, the video of what happened has outraged many, and called into question the actions of a school resource officer at spring valley high school in columbia, south carolina. first off take a look at the , video. kevin: so you know the latest, the justice department's civil rights division and the fbi along with the federal district attorney are going to investigate what happened and what led up to this incident. and so you know what happened, according to the school and local investigators the teacher , had asked the student to leave the classroom before she refused several times. an assistant principal was in the classroom and the officer was then called d remove the student. she again refused. that's about the time the the local naacp says they are concerned. the state educatioon superindent -- state education superintendent said the same thing. the officer involved is a deputy sherriff, ben fields, and he is currently on leave. as you might imagine a huge reaction on the internet and among those in the education and law enforcement community. stacey: president obama in his hometown today, talking about police-community relations, prison overcrowding, and gun safety at a conference of police chiefs. speaking in chicago, the president says he rejects the narrative of us versus them when it comes to officers are communities of color. -- comes to officers in communities of color. he says police must get the resources they need to do their jobs and shouldn't be scapegoated for broader failures. president obama: we can't expect you to contain and control problems that the rest of us aren't willing to face or do anything about. problems ranging from substandard education to a shortage of jobs and opportunity. stacey: the white house says evidence does not show officers are shying away from doing their jobs. that's after the fbi director said last week some cops have anxiety about encounters with the public because of cell phone cameras. steve: southwest airlines will start daily flights from des moines to st. louis in april. but its popular service from des moines to chicago's midway airport will end at the same time. des moines airport officials say the twice daily flights will link iowa travelers with 21 of des moines' top 25 southwest airlines destinations through the st. louis international airport kansas city royals fans will be on the edge of their seats
