(woman #2) "that doesn't sound like a good plan." it wasn't. police say mai bit down on eide's hand, causing severe injuries. wounds so bad... she might lose parts of her fingers. after doing some digging... we found two pages of court documents on eide, both in nebraska and iowa. her criminal convictions include... shoplifting drunk driving graffiti disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace... just to name a few. following the break-in and biting... police blamed on eide... the zoo's executive director, dennis pate... release a statement. "we're here to serve the people and so we want to know what the community wants," said vernon miller, tribal chairman. some members of the community believe legalizing marijuana will be beneficial to the community, especially for medicinal purposes fofothose that are suffering. "ive had two s sters that died with cancer and they going to go but, it still hurt to see them suffer," said citizen emma cayou philips. according to the national institute on drug abuse, medical marijuana contains a chemical called cannabidiol that is known to treat a conditions including sezures, pain, nausea, and muscle control problems. the legalization of marijuana within the omaha tribe will lie within the hands of the people when they cast their votes on tuesday. jessica rae: the flandreau santee sioux tribe is one of the first native american tribes to legalize marijuana on its grounds. the omaha tribe could also potentially reap from the economic benefits of growing industrial hemp. jessica rae: there's unthinkable grief for a sioux city family and their neighborhood after a little boy was killed in a weekend fire. the fire happened friday on center street. neighbors are still in shock over what happened friends and neighbors set up a small memorial right outside the burned down home on center street. three-year-old nicholas torres died friday night after officials say every room in the family's home was consumed with fire. the fire was so bad, crews had a hard time getting "it just caught me off guard you know, seeing all the flames come out. you could hear people, yelling and screaming and everything else. just seeing them trying to fight the blaze, you know it was hard watching it." stacey baker, neighbor said. jessica rae: the sioux city fire marshal says the boy's parents were home at the titi of the fire but were unable to rescue nicholas because of how quickly it spread. aesoph: these are very challenging its not something we are doing very often thankfully. i have a son that is the exact same age as nicholas it does affect you, it affects you. jessica rae: the cause of the fire remains under investigation and fire department officials expect to have an answer in the coming weeks. it's not considered suspicious in nature. the family is getting some support from the siouxland red cross as far as housing and counseling services. jessica rae: and fire officials want all families to know how important smoke detectors are. here are some tips to keep in mind. - have a smoke alarm on each level of your home - plug space heaters directly into the wall -turn heaters off when leaving the room - keep flamable objects 3 feet from any heat source and if you have that smoke alarm already make sure to check the batteries at least every month to make sure it's working. jessica rae: the university of iowa's new president has started his job on campus... and was met with prprests. (woman #2) "that doesn't sound like a good plan." it wasn't. police say mai bit down on eide's hand, causing severe injuries. wounds so bad... she might lose parts of her fingers. after doing some digging... we found two pages of court documents on eide, both in nebraska and iowa. her criminal convictions include... shoplifting drunk driving graffiti disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace... just to name a few. following the break-in and biting... police blamed on eide... the zoo's executive director, dennis pate... release a statement. "we're here to serve the people and so we want to know what the community wants," said vernon miller, tribal chairman. some members of the community believe legalizing marijuana will be beneficial to the community, especially for medicinal purposes fofothose that are suffering. "ive had two s sters that died with cancer and they going to go but, it still hurt to see them suffer," said citizen emma cayou philips. according to the national institute on drug abuse, medical marijuana contains a chemical called cannabidiol that is known to treat a conditions including sezures, pain, nausea, and muscle control problems. the legalization of marijuana within the omaha tribe will lie within the hands of the people when they cast their votes on tuesday. jessica rae: the flandreau santee sioux tribe is one of the first native american tribes to legalize marijuana on its grounds. the omaha tribe could also potentially reap from the economic benefits of growing industrial hemp. jessica rae: there's unthinkable grief for a sioux city family and their neighborhood after a little boy was killed in a weekend fire. the fire happened friday on center street. neighbors are still in shock over what happened friends and neighbors set up a small memorial right outside the burned down home on center street. three-year-old nicholas torres died friday night after officials say every room in the family's home was consumed with fire. the fire was so bad, crews had a hard time getting "it just caught me off guard you know, seeing all the flames come out. you could hear people, yelling and screaming and everything else. just seeing them trying to fight the blaze, you know it was hard watching it." stacey baker, neighbor said. jessica rae: the sioux city fire marshal says the boy's parents were home at the titi of the fire but were unable to rescue nicholas because of how quickly it spread. aesoph: these are very challenging its not something we are doing very often thankfully. i have a son that is the exact same age as nicholas it does affect you, it affects you. jessica rae: the cause of the fire remains under investigation and fire department officials expect to have an answer in the coming weeks. it's not considered suspicious in nature. the family is getting some support from the siouxland red cross as far as housing and counseling services. jessica rae: and fire officials want all families to know how important smoke detectors are. here are some tips to keep in mind. - have a smoke alarm on each level of your home - plug space heaters directly into the wall -turn heaters off when leaving the room - keep flamable objects 3 feet from any heat source and if you have that smoke alarm already make sure to check the batteries at least every month to make sure it's working. jessica rae: the university of iowa's new president has started his job on campus... and was met with prprests. "he touched soo many lives and made so many people feel like they were special because they worked for a special company. it's just a joy to be here celebrating his life," said bart brown, friend of mike hammond. hammond was just 53 when he unexpectedly passed away at his sioux city home thursday. known for his sense of humor...he's remember most as 1-3 of the pioneering team...that created the computer company "gateway" .... in 1985 in an iowa farm house. "he had incredible loyalty among the gateway employees and i know all of them really mourn his loss, he was too young, but the legacy he left on gateway is permament," said jim wharton, friend and former colleagueue of mike. the company....became a major success....by shipping computers straight to customers in boxes with a spotted-cow design. their former headquarters in sioux city...still dones the cow inspired logo. it's a piece of hammond's legacy...that his son person, great dad. be around," said mike hammond jr. this morning at chapel. the family is to show support for mike's favorite sports teams by dressing in either iowa hawkeye or chicago bears apparel. jessica rae: governor branstad is still feds to approve his plan to privatize medicaid system. four out-of-state companies would take over the program by but a hearing on how those companies were chosen is slowing down the process. right now there's concern about too ambitious for hospitals to get on board customers to new care providers. but the governor's confident it will state's medicaid will be part of a managed care system. he says it'll create better healthcare for people who are program. jessica rae: numbers are one thing... real life is another. here's a family that depends on medicaid services for the well being of their children. jennifer anderson is able to meet her son's healthcare needs ththks in part to medicaid which they use as secondary insurance. jacob is intellectually disabled andas autism. he takes medication and needs therapy. his mom worries, with the changes to medicaid they could lose a very valuable part of their lives, jacob's case worker. that means i'm losing amember of my family. she's been with me for so long, that is my biggest fear. jessica rae: families don't what the new out-of-state companies that take over iowa's offer. iowans use medicaid services.s. could the pool learned to swim as a kid... be closing? well, the city doesn't know a committee of and recreation is discussing and renovations pools. and lewis have all been part of the discussion since august. is having a to a deicision. possible solutions include replacing pools with splash pads, but no concrete plans have been made just yet.
