Your head, head gear, head cover. And you dont have to cover your feet. Now, wouldnt you admit that thats insufficient . No. We know how ebola spreads. It spreads by direct contact. Sometimes more isnt better. You put on more layers, you put on more things, theyre harder to get on, harder to get off. Really . Yes, really. You go into an infected ebola patients room without covering your head with only wearing one pair of gloves and your feet exposed, you would do that . Absolutely. Within 24 hours a source shared with us pictures of dr. Frieden visiting an ebola ward in liberia covered head to toe. And then tonight the cdc announced this starting immediately all Health Care Workers dealing with ebola should be wearing double gloves, waterproof boot covers, a fluid resistant gown, respirators, a full face shield and surgical hood to ensure complete coverage of the head and neck. We had nurses who complained their neck was completely exposed when dealing with these patients. And while that is what the cdc is calling for, some of the nurses on the front line say that that is not what they have been getting. Joining us now is debra burger, copresident of the National Nurses united. Debra, welcome. Good to have you here tonight. Good evening. We have a picture of a baggie that contained the outfit for the ebola kit prior to these changes. Do you think that what was in that little bag would keep anyone safe . That would not keep anybody safe. And the bag you have a picture of was just given to employees today. Today. Today. Whats in there . Well, the problem is is that all of the cdc guidelines as good as they are being strengthened are still voluntary. And so were still asking for president obama to use his executive authority to mandate that these new guidelines be implemented. Whats in that baggie is a pair of gloves, a mask, a head covering, and i assume that the employee is supposed to go grab a gown from somewhere. Yeah. I mean, there have been stories across this nation of instances where people were concerned in Emergency Rooms that they might have a potential patient. They did not. But when someone walks in with a fever and vomiting and what youve got is in that little baggie and that was handed out today doesnt give doctors and nurses a lot of confidence that their health is being looked out for, does it . Well, and thats the whole reason nurses for the last two months have been asking for better protections, better education, more training and handson use of all of the equipment because we really care about making sure our patients are safe and that were safe. So we were concerned. Were glad that the cdc is revising their guidelines. But we still need the president to mandate that the cdc requirements are mandatory. Yeah. Thats a great point. To say Everybody Needs to have all these things and these layers of confidence and training, but you dont see to have any confidence level that youre actually going to get it. Not yet. We still have hope that the employers in all these hospitals will actually take their responsibility for keeping our employees and our patients safe and that theyll step up to the plate. But so far that hasnt happened. Thank you very much. Good to have you with us tonight. Thank you. Best of luck to you and all your colleagues as we work our way through this story. And after more than a week of tough headlines for the administration, the New York Times came out with a report on ebola this weekend. And the headline amid assurances on ebola, obama is said to seethe. Not long after louisiana governor bobby jindal took to twitter saying this is part of a pattern for the administrations crisis management. What the governor calls the im so mad stage for the president. Joining me now, veteran president ial Campaign Manager and fox news contributor, thank you, gentlemen. Great to have you both here. Start first with governor jindal. You outlined what you called the president s four stages of anger on twitter. You want to share that with our viewers at home . Sure, martha. Thank you for having me. First he tells us hes got this his second step is he pretends madness. Were actually getting to the third step, he and surrogates say they need more of our money. Fourth step finds a way to blame the republicans. We have seen this before. We saw it with the oil spill. Time and time again this president has shown his incompetence. He told us the virus wasnt going to come here, then it did. He toll us it wasnt going to spread and then it did. He feigns anger, the next step, its coming, its going to be the republicans fault. I guarantee you its going to happen. Some critics might add a stage where people will be held accountable and that he will get to the bottom of whatever the situation is because we have seen that a lot and the president s critics say often that doesnt lead to any action. I thought it was very interesting today in this article in New York Times. This is a quote from David Axlerod who was one of the president s closest advisors. And the language in the way that he talks about this i thought was quite apt. It says, its not enough to doggedly and persistently push for answers in meetings. This is advice to the president. You have to be seen doggedly and persistently pushing for answers. It still feels like optics in that suggestion, governor. Youre absolutely right, martha. This is all about managing the 24hour news cycle. Its all about politics. Its all about appearances and perception. The problem is weve got a commander in chief, a president whos never run anything before. We see his incompetence on display here. This is not the first time. Unfortunately weve seen the failures domestically. We saw it up close here in louisiana with the oil spill. We saw it overseas with a failed red line. You just heard this nurse say unfortunately we saw this during the oil spill, they dont want to listen to the people on the front lines. The socalled experts they dont want to display common sense. Why not for example why not implement this travel ban . I called for it several days ago a couple weeks ago. Now youre beginning to see elected officials both democrat and republican join in for this call. Theyre not making common sense decisions. Sometimes the socalled smartest guys in government are sometimes the dumbest guys. Mon sense . Governor, thank you very much. Good to talk to you tonight. Here with the other point of view on this, joe trippi after this New York Times story and the president was angry and seething. We certainly saw nurses are seething about the situation that theyre facing in their own hospitals. But some producers our producers went digging through the archives. Heres what they found. Im angry. Every day i see this leak continue im angry and frustrated as well. Its inexcusable and americans have a right to be angry about it. And i am angry about it. Nobodys madder than me about the fact that the website isnt working as well as it should. Which means its going to get fixed. Joe, good evening. Good to see you. Fair or not . Good to be with you, martha. Well, the montage is fair. He said all those things. But i think in this one, you know, calling for a travel ban, i dont think thats the right way to go. A lot of Health Professionals dont think thats the right way to go. I fault the administration for several things in this regard. One, the cdc s. W. A. T. Team should have immediately gone to dallas as soon as that case was developed. You know, appeared. So there are things theyve gotten wrong, but again and another one is the nurses and other Health Professionals out there have to have the proper equipment. And i think part of that cdc s. W. A. T. Team will be if somebody comes into a hospital in california or elsewhere, that s. W. A. T. Team will be there with the right equipment whether the hospital there intends to use it or not they will be using it. You know, i thought it was interesting the president deeper in that New York Times piece he basically laid the blame according to the sources in this story at the cdc. And yet theres been no change at the cdc. And we do see that pattern, joe, of the president , you know, pointing the blame at somebody saying theyre going to be held accountable. But tom frieden still has his job given the fact that so many nurses and doctors, who are not really alarmists by nature, many of them, say that they feel woefully unequipped to take care of the situation. And then he hires a czar, you know, my question is why not fire tom frieden and put somebody in that position whos supposed to be taking care of that so the american taxpayer ends up paying only one person to be in charge of this whole situation . Well, it was the republicans who called for a czar. And i dont think they take tom frieden as a czar. I would have appointed someone different. Larry brilliant comes to mind. He was a guy that led 140,000 Health Professionals to eradicate smallpox around the globe. He would have been somebody i think that would have look, theres a lot of rational fear about ebola in the United States. And theres a lot of irrational fear. And i think ron klain may be very well equipped at organizing things, but i dont think the administration realizes that somebody like larry brilliant, an ep dimologist would have helped calm soft irrational fears that are out there about this disease. You can say its irrational, but the American People were told it wouldnt happen here. Then they found out it did happen here. And then they found out there wasnt a procedure in place. It seems like people always think things arent going to happen here and then we find ourselves back on our heaels wondering why somebody wasnt ready. This outbreak starts december 6, 2013. So almost a year ago. All those planes have been traveling from liberia and those places and continue to. And continue to do so. And exactly one person has gotten off of one, thats one too many, but its happened. In nigeria where 20 people from one person who got off a plane in legos, theyve eradicated ebola. W. H. O. Cleared them. And they did not ban travel. Understood. I mean, that may be the right thing to do. Well see. We hope we dont get anymore cases here and that nobody has already walked off a plane that has it. And we certainly hope that that doesnt happen. Joe, thank you so much. Thank you, martha. See you next time. So what would happen if terrorists were to get control of this ebola virus . You may think that that sounds like a sensational statement. But a fact is that a group of u. S. Counterterror experts researched exactly that question many years ago because they were concerned about it. Were going to show you the results of what happened when they did next. Plus, just wait until you see what happened when the president at one of the few Campaign Events that he has attended this year, what happened when he was there and he was talking. Were going to show you. And as the metropolitan opera tonight celebrating the murder of a jewish man at the hands of a terror group. Thats the accusation. Our investigation straight ahead. At first the world is led to believe that no one is harmed so the palestinians are promised safe passage out of egypt. But the next day the truth is learned and the u. S. Ambassador to egypt makes the announcement. Is dead. Big day . Ah, the usual. Moved some new cars. Hauled a bunch of steel. Kept the supermarket shelves stocked. Made sure everyone got their latest gadgets. Whats up for the next shift . Ah, nothing much. Just keeping the lights on. laugh nice. Doing the big things that move an economy. See you tomorrow, mac. See you tomorrow, sam. Just another day at norfolk southern. We are back and developing tonight some new questions about what would actually happen if terrorists used a virus like ebola to carry someone across the border who had it and start a terrorist attack . So more than a decade ago a group of u. S. Counterterror and Health Experts wanted to see what might happen if Something Like smallpox were injected into the population intentionally. And the conclusions in this test were dire. Heres a small part of the simulation results. No Group Claims Responsibility for unleashing the deadly smallpox virus. Demonstrations for more vaccine in hardhit communities disintegrated into riots and looting around the nation. Our national suspension of trading on american stock exchanges takes effect tomorrow. The centers for Disease Control reports that efforts to stem the smallpox epidemic have depleted americas inventory of smallpox vaccine. Whether a single attack could be responsible for this outbreak pattern developing in the u. S. So thats part of the simulation. As part of it they had pretend newscast showing what people would be told if Something Like this were to happen. Marc thiessen, a the Washington Post columnist. Marc, good everyoning. Good to have you with us. Good to be with you, martha. This is a signal that a terrorist allows himself to become sick with this disease and then moves in the population intentionally trying to cough and sneeze on people and spread it in ways. Perhaps even several of these people entering the country with the intention of surreptitiously spreading it, correct . Thats exactly right. This took place in 2001, a few months before the 9 11 attacks. It was a group of former Clinton Administration officials that ran this. What they found was a scenario where it was a bioweapons attack on the u. S. By terrorist where is they released smallpox at three Shopping Malls around the country. What they found was results were staggering. The Health Care System was completely overwhelmed. There were riots at vaccination centers. The National Guard ha had to be called in to put down the violence. International trade stopped. Canada and mexico closed their borders with the United States. No country would receive planes that either originated from or transited through the United States. It was absolutely massive and up to in the end up to a Million People died in the simulation from smallpox. The question is could this happen with ebola . It is a good question. We had a Couple School systems shut down because of this and thats just a microcosm. You had a couple of people infected, at least we hope that is the end of it. We dont know. But what makes me think in world war ii you had bomb shelters, families constantly practicing what they would do if something were to happen. And i think there is a mentality in this country that, oh, its never going to happen. Thats how you end up with hospitals that have little baggies that say heres your ebola kit because its not something we are willing for whatever reason to actually be prepared for. No. Exactly. So if its never going to happen, if Thomas Duncan can get on a plane knowing that he was exposed to it and come into the United States and fly to dallas, why couldnt an ebolainfected terrorist come in . One of the things thats interesting that ebola according to a colleague at the American Enterprise its actually the perfect bioweapon. Unlike smallpox that is hard to obtain, a terrorist has to go to ebolainfected area and infect himself. It has a 21day incubation period which is enough time for one or more to become infected and come to the United States. If an ebolainfected terrorist blew himself up in a Shopping Mall or airport or train station spreading infected tissue and turni int into a hot zone. These are things that actually could happen. We have to be ready for it. And prepared for different scenarios. Its called dark winter, that original experiment. It certainly would be. Thanks, marc. Thanks, march that. President obama this weekend went to give a speech in a spot where he got 90 of the vote in 2012. So when he was talking the other day, starting his speech, why did hundreds of people get up and walk out while the president was talking . Were going to show you what happened. Developing tonight, Indiana Police investigating a suspected serial killer who claims he has been killing for 20 years. 43yearold darren van is in custody tonight. In 200 he was convicted of a gruesome Sexual Assault in texas, but only served little more than a year. On saturday he was arrested in hammond, indiana. Police say he confessed to them to killing 19yearold africa hardy. She was found strangled to death in a motel room. Detectives say van then confessed to killing at least six more victims, all women. Their bodies were found in abandoned homes in nearby gary, indiana. Police are warning that there may be more victims. I am proud to be the commander in chief of the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who deployed, supported and played the crucial role in the delive of these terrorists to italian authorities. These Young Americans sent a message to terrorists everywhere. The message, you can run but you cant hide. What a story that was. President Ronald Reagan in 1985 with a harsh warning to terrorists after a p. L. O. Group hijacked an italian cruise ship and then shot and killed 69yearold disabled Jewish American leon cling haufer. His body and wheelchair tossed together overboard to the horror of americans. Now, that story is the subject of a metropolitan opera performance that opens tonight. And it is causing serious controversy for the treatment of this story. Trace gallagher with more from our west coast bureau tonight. Hi, trace. Hi, martha. Tonight marks the first of eight performances at the metropolitan opera house. And you can expect all eight to have signiprotests. Critics say the opera is antisemitic and humanizes terrorists appearing to offer a rational argument for their indefensible crime. John adams who composed the opera has defended it saying the killing of leon klinghaufer was a symbolic act and was trying to penetrate the symbolism saying, quoting here, what in their background, what in the mythology that they grew up with forced them or dared them to take this action, this terrible, brutal decision to kill this man . Leons two daughters strongly disagree and have issued a statement thats printed in the play bill. It reads in part the terrorists portrayed by four distinguished Opera Singers will be given a back story, an explanation for their brutal act of terror and violence. Terrorism cannot be rationalized. It cannot be understood. It cannot be tolerate d. Here is prominent new york rabbi. That i believe this opera justifies the murder of Leon Klinghoffer and sends a message to anyone who watches these opera why not join these terrorist groups and then in the end youll be a hero on the stage of the met opera. Former new york mayor Rudy Giuliani and former new york governor pataki were among those protesting. Not asked to be banned or shut down, just voicing their concern. New york mayor bill de blasio supports the mayor saying we dont have to agree with whats in the exhibit, but we agree with the right of the artist and the Cultural Institution to put that forward to the public. One of next months performances was originally planned to be broadcast to a worldwide audience, but the mets director, peter geld, canceled. Acknowledging that the death might ignite the flames of antisemitism across europe. Thank you very much. He was speaking in maryland where he won 90 of the vote in 2012. But despite the deep pool of support that he once had there and what with the white house thought was going to be a friendly crowd for him. When the president started speaking see these picture sns people started getting up and walking out. A steady stream of people according to the reporter who witnessed it. Said people just began leaving. And shortly after he spoke began speaking i should say. Ed henry with me now on this from washington. Hey, ed. What happened . The bottom line is that its extremely rare for any president to be pinned down here two weeks before the Midterm Election and not really going to any of the contested races, instead going to friendly places like illinois today where he engaged in early voting. But even some of those stops as you just noted were going awry. It was teed up perfectly for him last night in maryland. Democrats put him in a heavily africanamerican county, he spoke in a gymnasium not far from barack obama elementary school. This was obama country. And yet you see from these photos that were going to show you in a second that as he was speaking people started leaving. And to be fair there were over 80,000 people there. He had a huge crowd. He also had an overflow room because there were so many people. But people didnt wait around for him to finish his speech. A column in the Washington Post tonight online calling the president , president pariah saying that even some of his supporters dont want to be with him there for the whole time. But whats interesting is tonight the president did an interview with al sharpton and sort of doubled down suggesting that hes handinhand with democrats in these midterms. Listen. It is difficult for them to have me in the state because the republicans will use that to try to fan republican turnout. The bottom line is though these are all folks who vote with me. They have supported my agenda in congress. Now, these are folks who all voted with me even if they wont appear with me. Remember a couple weeks ago the president got into hot water when he suggested im not on the ballot but my policies are. The republicans immediately jumped on that and said, look, this is tied to all the Democratic Candidates whether they appear together or not, martha. Different tale being told these days. Ed, thank you very much. Good to see you. So the president s sagging poll numbers may be hurting some ghkts as we were talking about, but they are getting a lot of support from one group in particular. A published report this week suggests americas teachers unions could spend more than 80 million in this election cycle. Thats a record setting number. And its not going to washington but instead to these statelevel races. So what are they after . Here to talk about that, dana lash, she hosts dana on the blaze tv and is the author of the brand new book hands off my gun. And shes here to talk about that defeating the plot subtitle of that book, comes out tomorrow. Dana, thank you for being here. Thank you for having me. Talk about the teachers union. Theyre putting a lot of money into the statelevel races and going after things like merit pay, going after school choice, all of these issues that are, you know n many ways very popular in a lot of the states that theyre targeting. Yeah, this highlights, martha, a complete disconnect between Union Leadership and Union Members because i have been hearing from members of different teachers unions who say, look, we like to have that control and that sovereignty in our classroom in things like common core and merit pay, we want to be rewarded for good results. And we want to be able to have more influence on our curricula and also local representation and have parents more involved. And yet the union bosses of these teachers unions are spending money on candidates who are advocating to take all that away from these teachers. Wisconsin, michigan, places where the gop has done a lot of education reform. Theyre targeting those places. Now connecticut, colorado, florida, those are places where gop reformers want to have this kind of impact to help the students, to help the kids in the classroom. And here in new york especially with charter schools. Will payne did a great job of highlighting de blasios problem with these charter schools. Theres a lottery, a waiting list to even get into the lottery to get intoto these schools. Desperate to get into these schools. The naacp is siding with the union on this. The naacp who many are struggling to go off to a Better School and turns out unions are spending a lot of money to fight against that. Doesnt make any sense. Theyre advocating to their own detriment, their own selfinterest where it comes to education. And the product is the children and their academic achievements. And they do better with charter schools. Thst been a study done in chicago about merit pay as well. They do better. Thats where the proof is. Lets talk about the book because tonight, thank you for being here. Of course. This is your first stop on the book tour its called hands off my gun, something i know you feel very strongly about. Thats right. You tell your personal story about what made you so passionate about this issue. Yeah. My familys from rural missouri. Theyre from the ozarks, so growing up if you called the law in southern missouri, you were lucky if the law showed up in like 25 to 30 minutes because some of these counties are huge and they may only have a koum deputies. And on average the National Response time when you call 911, its 20 minutes to respond. I had a story where my aunt was assaulted and her exhusband now tried to kill her. So she ran through the woods with nothing but her night clothes, showed up at my grandparents house and it was just me there and my cousin, her daughter. My grandfather he called the law but he had to sit on the porch with his shotgun because they knew the estranged husband had threatened to kill her. You dont want children to ever feel unsafe. They should feel safe with adults. That was my First Experience with the Second Amendment and with firearms aside from hunting was that sense of safety knowing that my grandfather if the law didnt show up in time, my grandpa was going to be there to be able to help defend the family if this estranged uncle showed up. A sign of safety. Yes. So much is a sign of danger. And statistically 60 times moreover firearms are used in defensive cases more so than for criminal acts. Dana, good luck on your book tour. Thank you so much. Nice to see you. So up next, a bombshell new report on what happened that night in ferguson, missouri when officer Darren Wilson came facetoface with Michael Brown. Breaking news tonight, legendary Fashion Designer oscar dela wren ta passed away. Most recently designed Amal Clooneys wedding gown has passed away. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. The cause of his death is not known and has not been stated yet. He was 82 years old. Also well known for Jackie Kennedy o nassis being a huge fan of his work. More coming up on that as we get more information. [ inaudible ] [ bleep ]. Tempers flaring outside a st. Louis rams game this weekend after fans got upset with people protesting a Police Shooting in ferguson, missouri. This comes as we hear for the first time the most extensive blowbyblow account from Ferguson Police officer Darren Wilson of exactly what happened that august day that he shot and killed 18yearo brown. Federal officials unnamed, telling the New York Times that wilson feared for his life as he struggled for his gun with Michael Brown. Mark furhman is former l. A. Police detective and fox news contributor. He joins me now. Mark, good to have you with us tonight. Thank you. Obviously there has been so much tension that has surrounded this case. And this huge story broke on the front page of New York Times over the weekend. And you say when you look at details and talks about a struggle that happened inside the car and it claims in this peas that there were two shots that were fired inside the car and that that is substantiates the claim by Darren Wilson that there was some kind of struggle within that car during which he feared for his life. What do you make of all this . Well, martha, when you look at this and you have to tactically set the stage, Darren Wilson is working a oneman marked Police Vehicle in uniform. He is about to try to exit to confront two suspects, brown and johnson, that he wanted to contact and talk to, whether he knows about the strong arm robbery or not. He is thrown back into the vehicle. And once brown enters that vehicle through the window, he is pinning the officer down. And this evidence, this forensic evidence, shows that they were grappling for the gun and the gun went off twice, one round hitting brown. And that blood is not only on the inside of the door, its on the officers uniform and the gun. That puts them together. That puts them fighting over the gun. And it supports officer wilsons statement for exactly what happened right at that moment when he contacted brown. Yeah. Doreen johnson is the other person you mentioned, hes the other suspect. It sounds like, mark, its going to come down to his work against Darren Wilson. Because he claims that Darren Wilson reached out that the door was open and that he then reached over and grabbed Michael Brown and pulled him down towards the car through the window is his contention. Well, its all right. Marks shot froze here for a second. Lets see if we can get him back. Were talking about the fact that so much new information was revealed in this New York Times piece that is shedding more light on this case. And it talks about Darren Wilsons side of this story and what he says happened. He claims that Michael Brown reached into the car, that a struggle ensued, that the gun during that struggle went off or either was fired and that those are the first two shots that hit Michael Brown. So Dorian Johnsons story is quite different, mark, from what weve learned in this piece. It is different. And somebody has to imagine this. If somebody reaches into a vehicle and the person in the vehicle outstretches their left arm to keep that person away, who is actually pulling and who is pushing . That is where that is going to be an issue that comes down to the evidence that the officer actually has supporting his story. Now, that whole situation there actually shows one thing to me, that brown is the aggressor, the officer is the victim. After this initial contact and those first two rounds, brown could have walked away. And theres little doubt in my mind that if he just walked away or ran away, that hed probably still be alive today. So the contention is by the witness who was with him that he turned around and put up his hands. And i guess what really this comes down to at that point is what happened outside the car and how those next four shots were fired and what happened between these two people that made that happen and left him dead in the street. I agree with you. And you look at this, Darren Wilson already established his fear for his life and great bodily injury. He is already being overpowered by a man that is greatly superior in size and strength than him. But he has a gun. And thats what the other side will say, mark. He has the gun. It doesnt matter if he has the gun. Neither johnson or brown had been searched. And this officer does not know if they are armed or not. Now, until that point that you know that theyre unarmed or they surrender or follow your commands, they are a suspect that has already attempted to kill the officer. And now he keeps advancing. Whether his hands are up and he keeps advancing trying to close that distance, this officer knows that he will never be able to withstand a fight with this man outside of the vehicle. And he will probably lose his gun and his life. Yeah. I mean, you know, the problem is with this is that it becomes about the racial issue. And wanting to sort of have this stand for larger racial issues and larger racial tensions that have happened in this town over the past few years and has to come down to the facts of what happened that night. We are back now to a remarkable moment in New Hampshire involving a pumpkin festival near Keen State College and a group of rioting students on campus when a young reporter covering the festival decided to mention, hey, look whats going on here. Theres some riots and people climbing on top of a car. Things got a little bit ugly in the pumpkin patch. Trace gallagher joins us now with more from the west coast bureau. Hey, trace. So, martha, families picking up pumpkins and lighting jackolanterns and a few yards away youve got what appear to be thousands of drunk College Students rioting, lighting fires, tossing bottles at cops, busting road signs and even tipping over a car. An independent reporter spent the day covering the festival. But when the riots broke out, he broke in. And the festival coordinator wasnt happy. Watch. She would not like me to tell you whats going on at keane state college. Now im being called a free stander if you think inciting these people is a good idea, i am going to pull the plug on you. Im not selfpromoting anything. Yes, you are. Do we agree hes selfpromoting. I agree. Well, a short time ago we spoke with jared who told us he would not suppress the news. Listen to him. I gave them an opportunity to, you know, not embarrass herself in the way that she did. But, you know, she felt she needed to say some things. And so, you know, i let her. Well, festival organizer ruth sterling defended her actions to the boston globe saying i needed to keep 80,000 people safe and one selfpromoting punk could help me do that or try to impede me from doing that. I was not surrendering to fear, intimidation or threats. By the way, 49 people were arrested and much of the riot was caught on social media. Many more students are now being identified and could be suspended or expelled. But, jared gets a star for the day. Sounds like a story that needed to be reported that was going on right behind him and he did the right thing. Trace, thank you very much. Were going to be right back.
