This they needed help. And no one came because the police were told to stand down. One of these guys was trying to pull out in his car, in his vehicle to try to get through the crowd. The crowd he said harassed him. He called police. Police didnt come. He was trying to pick up his daughter from camp. Then he says that they showed up at his apartment building. Talking abouting protesters. Pete some reports denied Police Assistance after they left the ice building. Including one man a marine disabled veteran followed and confronted as he went to pick up his daughter from her day camp. This guy calls 911. Equal protection of the 14th Amendment of our laws, no, doesnt apply to you because you live in portland where we support the protesters and not Law Enforcement. Ainsley union that represents ice they are furious about this. They mailed the mayor A Cease And Desist letter. They said it is in violation of the u. S. Constitution under the 14th Amendment says the government cannot deny any persons protection. Steve part of the cease and desist letter says we fail to see why targeting the members of ice and leaving them vulnerable to violence, harassment and even death further a legitimate government interest. When you see, of course, they do have more people than us in active duty service. China is the population thats four times that of the United States. So, when you look at when you compare population to population and, of course, as you and i know we are all volunteer force. Pete they are massive land war. No, i think part of it is still a hangover from the 1960s, i would say, perhaps a bit of a hangover from the cold war. Steve people from the 60s ands and ethos that was broadcast so widely in the 1960ss. Dreadful mistake expanding their humanityies purview to include disciplines like womens studies and ethnic studies are pseudo disciplines. They are low academic standards and corrupting the rest of the enterprise. That is not a good thing. Steve what do you mean corrupting the rest of the enterprise . You need to have standards in education. The fact that disciplines emerge that had no real methodology and
no method of proof, no philosophical background, no real history, meant that, that they became degreegranting enterprises. That they emerged to produce political activists what they advertise on their websites, means that you have got, you have a fifth column of idealogues operating behind the scenes. All, they spend almost all of their time engaged in political activism you know, and that is not good for the university as a whole. By any stretch or for society as a whole. Steve jordan, if somebody is thinking about sending their kids to college, i put three through good schools, what should they know about where they send their kids . It is not like you have a big choice because a lot of the people in positions of power in education are to the political left. That is just a fact. You can go and look up the academy on line. main player in it. He is here in new york. And he has tried to rank order universities by their adherence to truth rather than social justice. Put university of chicago at top of the list, for example. I think increasingly that parents and students will wise up and start not attending the universities that are basically playing idealogical game. Steve what is the matter with having people from the idealogical left being your childrens instructors though . Ultimately you want all sides of the equation . You want to know all the opinion . Yes you do, but there is no evidence that middle of the road or the conservative side of the opinion spectrum is being represented in humanities and social sciences. Steve that is your worry . That and the fact, there is something to be said for the left but not very much to be said for the radical left. That distinction isnt being made. The left can clearly go too far as it did many times in the 20th century. When it gets too radical, especially no countering voices,
there are very few, thats a bad thing. It is bad for education. It is bad for broader society. It is all together bad. Steve youve been around the world talking your book up. How has the response been and how has it impacted you . I learned two things. I learned that people are starving for a real conversation about responsibility and meaning and about the relationship between those two things because people need a sustaining meaning in their life. The second thing is that people are a lot smarter than we think. If allow them long form dialogue time, even in public lectures there is a huge market for it. There is a huge hunger for it. In conjunction with the white house to build a strong, united team to protect the president s agenda. The bottom line, the swamp, establishment here in d. C. Will come after that agenda because they have really done a good job shaking things up at the va so far. We cant have any infighting at va like we did undersecretary shulkin. Pete that is true. The reason there was infighting, secretary shulkin wasnt willing to do or didnt want to pursue trumps va reform agenda. So the white house elevated political appointees who did. Groups like unions, some vets groups say because youre a political appointee, youre politicizing the va. If you push these guys out, you push out real reformers in exchange for leadership at the va that might be too comfy with the way things have been done. Is that a fear you have at all . Will you watch closely . Right now i dont have that fear but we are always going to
be monitoring the va well always be making sure theyre doing the right thing. We supported Robert Wilkie. That doesnt mean well give him a free pass on everything. I trust that President Trump is going to be watching Robert Wilkie very closely because this is an issue he cares about, reforming and fixing the va. They have done a great job advancing va reforms that expand health care. Pete there are groups trying to undo it. Absolutely because it gets to some of the core problems of government, not just at the va that you have unions too embedded within personnel pangment, within the government. You have a governmentrun Health Care System that doesnt give veterans choice. A lot of people dont want to see that changed. They like the status quo and they dont want to see change.
