inside merritrump's victory spe. back to you. >> appreciate it. let's keep talking about the presidential race. who is your pick and why? weigh in #keeptalking. >> a big day. down to three on the republican side. "fox & friends" starts right now. >> see you later. if we win in november, i know our future will be brighter tomorrow than yesterday! >> if we stand together, there is nothing we condition accomplish. >> this may not have been a year for a hopeful and optimistic message about our future. i still remain hopeful and optimistic about america. [ applause ] >> i will not take the low road to the highest office in the land. [ applause ] >> together, we will make washington less relevant in all
of our lives. >> we're going to win, win, win, and we're not stopping. we're going to have great victories for our country. thank you very much, everybody. thank you. welcome to studio e here in the heart of midtown manhattan. you know what, you could say this this morning, brian and ainsley -- donald trump and hillary clinton have something in common. they had great tuesdays. >> they did. donald trump won three out of five states. missouri too close to call. we'll go through the states for you. then ohio, john kasich took ohio. >> you know, for the first time, every single time there's a big day, there's a big resignation. it's good-bye, marco rubio. so let's go through what exactly took place last night. >> okay. this is the super tuesday map. super tuesday part deux. donald trump won illinois, north carolina, and florida was a blowout for the outing of marco rubio, as ainsley said. missouri is still too close to call. donald trump now at 621.
ted cruz just under 400. john kasich, who now says this is -- he's in to win it, 138, in to win it. >> missouri, the republican side, currently too close to call on the democratic side himp coming out strong in florida. there was upset in illinois. no upset in north carolina. and there was fear in the clinton camp that she would lose ohio. that did not take place. she prevailed. >> she has nearly double the delegates, 1,561 to bernie sanders' 800. we have fox team coverage on this post-election day. my li we begin with phil keaton in miami and more from ohio. >> reporter: good morning. a huge night for trump in the sunshine state. absolutely decisive victory and for the home state senator, it wasn't even close. a triumphant donald trump taking
the stage at his palm beach record, and he was complimentary of rubio. in fact, he had plenty to celebrate. he pulled 4 5% in florida, 18 points ahead of rubio, with cruz and kasich minimal competition. >> we have a great opportunity. the people voting are democrats, independents coming in, and very importantly, people that never voted before. it's an incredible thing. >> rubio spent money and stumped nonstop in florida this past week, he kept promising the polls were way off. turns out the polls weren't wrong, rubio was. last night he was far from bitter. >> i know firsthand that ours is a special nation because where you come from here doesn't decide where you get to go. that's how a 44-year-old son of a bartender and a maid, that's
how i decide that i, too, can run for president of the united states. [ applause ] >> and yesterday morning in rubio's hometown of west miami, here's a scene that showed the writing was perhaps on the wall all day. it was all trump. in fact, in florida, trump had far more organization than all of the other campaigns. he's the only campaign that had about 50 poll watchers making sure all the voting yesterday went smoothly. a year ago when florida's republican dominated legislature decided to make florida a winner-take-all primary state for the republicans, they did that a would end up being former florida governor jeb bush or florida senator marco rubio and help propel them to the white house. in the end, it didn't work out that way. back to you. >> wow. thanks. >> thank you very much. >> yeah. unbelievable. the only thing that marco rubio ended up winning was basically his hometown. that was it. >> i will say the speech last night as we all watched, you know, it was touching. he really -- he gave a lot, he read scripture which, of course,
to me i loved. he had a great pledge to his children. he said he was embarrassed by the way he'd acted in the campaign. his children should be proud of him. it was a great speech. what i loved most about it was he said growing up in a household, my mother was a maid, my dad was a bartender, he said my mother got to go to the polls yesterday and vote for her son to be president of the united states. i thought maybe he didn't drop out of the race because of that. he wanted his mom to check that box for her son. >> absolutely. couldn't get out before then. you just never know. also during that event at the university in miami, he bowed out gracefully, there was a little commotion in the background. somebody said, oh, there was a trump supporter back there talking about trump, trump, trump. it turns out it was a hillary plant according to the gateway pundit who identified the guy as parading around florida trying to tip the scales, anti-trump but -- >> a few had it. kasich -- >> it was a little political dirty trick. >> and there was someone in the
crowd when kasich got ready to take the podium, too. he walked to the edge of the stage and said get out basically. >> yeah. >> meanwhile, so everyone was waiting for donald trump. he was at the press conference -- never took any questions. he just vilified the press and said they're horrible people. and said -- most of them. then here he is talking about the fact that rubio dropped out. he thanked the mariana islands -- >> nine delegate yesterday. >> i could not believe the big salute to the islands. he gave more a salute to the islands than florida. here's donald trump. >> i want to congratulate everybody. this is a really interesting process. it's an amazing process. it's very tough. by the end, if you get to the end, you can handle a lot of things including pressure. that i can tell you. there's nothing like it. lies, deceit, viciousness, disgusting reporters, horrible people. [ laughter ] >> some are nice. [ applause ] >> some are nice. some really disgusting people
back there. [ laughter ] >> he also was talking about how the big golf event the past weekend, his doral event. it was fantastic. adam scott going to the final round. he's watching on tv -- there are two anti-donald trump ads on the donald trump tournament. donald trump himself is going to join us at 8:30 eastern time. we'll talk about the big win last night and where he goes from here. >> and where goes like governor kasich go from here and where people like senator ted cruz go from here. and is there going to be a combination? he could not get marco rubio on the phone yesterday. we're not seeing the endorsements, we're not seeing jeb drop out and say vote for this guy. although carly fiorina will join us later. she's going for ted cruz. we'll see if they're going to get to the one-on-one fight that it seems that ted cruz wants. >> it's always fun to report the next day on what the exit polls look like. and it is clear if you look at the exit polls and if you look at the results in all of the states that the voters are not happy with the establishment. take a look at this.
this is why they like trump in the state of florida. and how he won. 80% says that he tells it like it is. 75% say be from outside the establishment. >> key. >> yes. and 66% feels betrayed by the gop. 52% says that he can bring the needed change. >> that was in florida where it was a blowout for trump. meanwhile, in ohio, the very popular governor there, john kasich, did win. and among -- this was key. among the late deciders, who did they break for? about half of them broke for john kasich, as you see b. a quart for donald trump. ted cruz was at 17%. and way at the back of the pack, it looks like 35%, it's 3.5%. >> that says a lot about kasich. they love him in his state. and i appreciate the loyalty. i love lyle loyal people and appreciate the lighty in that state that they -- loyaltiy in that state that they have. >> it's for someone they know.
from here on in, he needs 100% of the delegates. >> like 102%. >> it's impossible. >> mathematically it's impossible. he's hoping for, as we're about to discover from molly line, a contested convention. molly line is live in columbus with what's next for mr. kasich. molly, good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. great to be with you today. that's right, governor john kasich got the win that he needed to move forward here in the state of ohio. take a listen to the crowd. >> kasich! kasich! kasich! >> reporter: that was his hometown crowd, of course. ohio was perceived as a must-win for the governor who would have struggled to justify continuing in his campaign after a home state loss. this was a winner-take-all contest. kasich claimed all 66 delegates at stake on the gop side, finally racking up his first win. he needed the delegates. this was a decisive win. he ended up by more than 10% over donald trump. with some momentum in his corner now, kasich is vowing to go all
the way to the republican convention in cleveland and beyond. >> we've got one more trip around ohio this fall where we will beat hillary clinton, and i will become the president of the united states. >> reporter: despite his victory in michigan, bernie sanders was unable to defeat hillary clinton in neighboring ohio. she walked away with the win in the buckeye state and many other states and struck an optimistic vote in the wake of the victories. >> for all of our challenges, i've never had more faith in our future. if we work together, if we go forward in this campaign, if we win in november, i know our future will be brighter tomorrow than yesterday! thank you all so very much! >> reporter: clinton's path to the nomination, of course, is much more clear than kasich's path.
still, he vows to go forward on to the convention, as you mentioned, steve. the possibility of a contested convention. kasich goes on to pennsylvania today. that is his native state. he may have a hometown advantage there, as well. he's hoping to score some points, victories, bring in the votes. today he has a -- an event at villanova university. >> there you go. >> go, wildcats. >> thanks. one thing we could say safely is that while ted cruz does not like donald trump, ted cruz wanted donald trump to win ohio yesterday because that would have taken out kasich and would have been a two-man race. not the case. now it's still a three-man race with the guy who is the governor of ohio, winning the big state. >> north carolina was extremely close. missouri up in the air, it was within fiefb points in illinois. in the end, ted cruz didn't win. but he does have a strategy. listen to his conversation with james rosen.
>> if we go forward and beat donald consistently 55-45, we end up winning more than 80% of the delegates. the way the states delegate the delegates, you get the delegate total when you see the nationwide polling -- it has me beating donald by 13 points now. if we continue to do just as we're doing now, we go forward and win, and one of the things that is critically important is also there's a sharp divide between the candidates. you know, donald talks a lot about the programs, the problems we have. he has a lot of empty slogans but no real solutions to the economic challenges facing the country. i'm the only candidate in the race who has a concrete economic policy agenda, repeal obamacare, pass a simple flat tax, abolish the irs, stop amnesty, secure the borders. we do, that we'll see millions of high-paying jobs come back, wages rising again. we'll see young people coming out of school, having two,
three, four, five job opportunities. that's what's at stake in this election. >> ted cruz expected to have the day that he had. that's why he's gone ahead. he's already campaigning in arizona, already campaigning in utah. he has support from senator mike lee in utah. he's been spending $200,000 already in arizona on ads there. march 22nd, those folks go to the polls. he's looking ahead because he knew yesterday wasn't in his favor. >> and cruz, he's oregon hissed. the first out of the dpagates. pretty consistent. meanwhile, we have only two hours and 50 minutes left. we'll tell you what's on tap. ted cruz was talking about his numbers. how does the delegate math really work? we'll break it down with a true expert next. then, washington, d.c.'s, entire subway system is shut down. why? we have the breaking details. today they're calling it carmageddon in our nation's capital. constipated?

the nomination so to speak? joining us to break down the delegate math and the numbers guy himself, political analyst scott rasmussen, foundation president of -- founding president of the news service sterk. here are the numbers -- 621, 395 for cruz. 138 for kasich, rubio drops out with 168. the total we need, the total right now would be 1,155. where do you see this heading? >> let's get to basics. kasich and rubio are clearly out mathematically. rubio dropped out. kasich hasn't formally done he. he's not going to -- done so. he's not going win the nomination. we're down to a new phase of the campaign, a two-man race. the question is, can ted cruz beat donald trump in a head-to-head match-up? if he can, if ted cruz can win a majority of the states and delegates, he will be the nominee over those next 20 states.
>> you know, even if kasich is recording the single digits, if he's getting 10, 12, and you know he's nothing if not competent, he might be the rationa rational establishment choice. he takes arizona and utah next. he could take something in the head-to-head match-up, right? >> he could. arizona and utah aren't big states for john kasich. these are huge, combined 98 dallas, as many as florida. arizona's a winner-take-all primary. ute utah's a primary state. ted cruz has to do well. if he can beat donald trump in those states and get the 98 delegates or most of them, he will be in the race. if donald trump wins next week, then really all these discussions about dlatd counts will go away. donald trump is the leader, he probably needs to win about 37 or 38% of the remaining delegates after we get through counting missouri. but it comes down to the next 20 states. >> scott, let's look at. this the guy, the national
review came out against donald trump. 56 articles against him. even rich lowery, the national review editor, said if anyone else had the success trump had so far, there would be no question he would be the nominee already. what's the problem? >> the problem is the republican establishment hates donald trump. they -- conservative leaders hate donald trump because of his ideology. the other problem is they hate ted cruz. a lot of people in washington will have coalesced around cruz a while ago if -- to be the nominee or to be the alternative to trump, but they hate him, too. both guys are winning because of what marco rubio said last night. republicans had big ears in 2010 and 2014. nothing changed. republican voters are saying we're fed up with business as usual. >> we'll see if anything happens along the way, if anything will change in the race. thank you very much. >> thank you. >> scott rasmussen. ahead, a fox news alert. remember this american tour identity theft trial in north

from a field of 17 republican candidates back in the day, now narrowed down to just three. so now that two of the three remaining candidates are considered nonestablishment, which candidate will republicans rally behind? joining us right now, somebody who knows a little bit about this is a former presidential candidate and fox news contributor, herman cain, joining us from las vegas. when you're out in vegas, when you play the numbers do you play 999? just curious? >> no no no. that's not my game. >> trump had a very good night last night. john kasich had a good night for him, he finally won one. but it's the year of the outsider. that's really what we saw last night between ted cruz doing pretty well in a couple of states and donald trump winning so far three out of the five -- could be four, right now too close to call. >> yes. the reason is, the people are
speaking, steve, across this country. that's the good news. and the establishment republicans are rejecting what the people are saying. and that's what i find pathetic and destructive to the party. and the only good thing about this is that trump has embodied and is embracing whether you like him or not, what the will of the people is. they're not looking at all of the political noise. they are looking at three things. they want somebody who is a leader, a fighter and a winner. and he gets criticized for not having detail but if they go to his website he has plenty of detail there relative to replacing the tax code and replacing obamacare. those are the two biggest things he's embraced. >> well, the establishment hates him and there's a brand-new show on showtime called "the circus." we'll show folks if they haven't seen it a snippet of what goes

mean, it's disgusting. because it's contributing to the divisiveness of the republican party more than trump is. republicans have for years said, we want a bigger tent and well, donald trump has drawn people to the bigger tent and now what do the good old boys want do? make the tent big again and people aren't going away. >> the question is, who runs the party? the people or those guys in that room in washington? >> the people run the party. and that's what those guys in that room in washington can't tolerate. and i've got to tell you, i don't think that it's going to go away. the other thing is all of these other so-called conservative elites who are lining up to try to stop trump, starting with mitt romney, well, i'm telling you, it's not going to work. the other thing about the results last night, john kasich did win the state of ohio. that is what he hoped to do, that's what he was supposed to say. but i think for him it gives him
some leverage because as you all have reported, mathematically he can't get to the nomination. trump can. >> herman cain, thank you very much. you mentioned donald trump. he's going to join us at 8:30 eastern. older people when they actually did start saving. this gap between when we should start saving and when we actually do is one of the reasons why too many of us aren't prepared for retirement. just start as early as you can. it's going to pay off in the future. if we all start saving a little more today, we'll all be better prepared tomorrow. prudential. bring your challenges. in new york state, we believe tomorrow starts today. all across the state, the economy is growing, with creative new business incentives, the lowest taxes in decades, and new infrastructure for a new generation attracting the talent and companies of tomorrow.

people that never voted before. it's an incredible place. >> reporter: as rubio spent millions of dollars in tv ads and stumped nonstop in florida this past week, he kept promising the polls were way off. turns out the polls weren't wrong, rubio was. last night, he was far from bitter. >> i know first hand that ours is a special nation. because where you come from here doesn't decide where you get to go. that's how a 44-year-old son of a bartender and a maid, that's how i decide i too can run for president of the united states of america. [ applause ] >> reporter: and yesterday morning in rubio's hometown of west miami here's a scene of what would come at the end of the night. all trump. in fact, trump had far more organization and volunteers in florida than all of the other campaigns. and he was the only campaign yesterday to have about 50 poll watchers just hanging out in the voting precincts to make sure everything went smoothly and what of course is historically
infamous florida. >> phil, we heard that donald trump's name wasn't on a few ballots, so they started to wonder if something was going on there, right? >> reporter: turns out that was not the case. it was a closed primary. those voters were confused. they were registered as independents, so they only had their local elections to choose from. they couldn't vote in the primary. >> that's the way it works. phil, thank you. meanwhile, donald trump himself is joining us after a late night. he's going to be with us in the next hour right here on "fox & friends." we should point out that a year ago, the conventional wisdom was that on this wednesday morning, we would be talking about the sunshine shoot-out between jeb bush and marco rubio. one of those two people would wind up the conventional wisdom was -- would wind up, you know, taking the nomination. brit hume was on last night. he had some brilliant analysis and he's talking about how donald trump is now the front-runner and he's got a bunch more delegates.
the reason is, unlike the professional politicians, donald trump was able to look into the heart of america and figured out how to go at it. >> the mystery of trump of course is partly he read the electorate better than anybody. i mean, all the others were in the race, successful governors galore. we had all the candidates, a lot of them smart. ted cruz has a very well organized campaign and he's plotted this from a long way off. nobody is saying he's run a bad campaign, yet, trump read the electorate better than anybody. >> here's the thing that the professional politicians are still getting it wrong. you have trump and ted cruz, the establishment is not supporting either one of them. >> right. i say there's two things. donald trump, he's anti-establishment and he's done everything totally different. the stuff he said, the way he's approached things. he's not just a business man trying to jump into politics. it's the way he jumped into politics and it outraged the
people at the national review, the conservatives conservatives who has the conservative mantle on a monthly basis. and rich lowry came out against him a long time ago, but he said this about the current math and the path that's usually handled by the republicans. >> trump has had a good night. if this were anyone else who had won this many contests this far into the process, there would be no question about that candidate inevitably being the nominee and the party rallying around him or her. but trump is uniquely polarizing as a front-runner in any major party we have seen in recent history. >> he's absolutely right. if the front-runner had a name other than trump, everybody would be coalescing around here. tomorrow in washington, d.c., there's a meeting with some top republicans. they're going to figure out how
to stop trump if he's the nominee or to run a third party true conservative. a couple of republicans you don't know the names of, and erick erickson who was supporting marco rubio and ted cruz, it could be on the part of the establishment company to derail trump. >> the danger is you split the republican party and hillary wins. >> the thing they feared most about donald trump of him getting some votes now that the party is seeing he's winning, they're leaving the party. the party is leaving the party, because trump is winning the party. >> who is the party? washington, d.c. or the people out there? >> i think the people. >> meanwhile t people of ohio selected governor john kasich keeping his presidential hopes alive. a clean sweep for hillary clinton. finally, he won one. >> yeah. he's relieved because it's a vital one. molly line in the winner take

around ohio. this coming fall, we will beat hillary clinton and i will become the president of the united states. >> reporter: despite his recent upset victory in michigan, senator bernie sanders was unable to defeat secretary hillary clinton here in the neighboring state of ohio. she got a win and wins in many other states. she struck an optimistic note in the wake of all those victories. >> you voted for our tomorrow to be better than our yesterday. tomorrow where all of us do our part because that's how america can live up to its potential too. >> reporter: clinton's path to the nomination is more clear than kasich's, but all the same the governor is out on the campaign trail here. he moves off to pennsylvania for an event at villanova university. >> thank you, molly line. three-man race.

republicans is ted cruz. the outsiders. >> first of all, i think it's interesting that only 40% of republicans say they're angry. the whole narrative of the election has been about how angry the republican party is. i think that's interesting. the other things associated with that number, if you look at head to head between cruz and trump, in a number of the states that voted last night if they had to do it all over again f it were just the two of them, they'd vote for cruz over trump. so the question is, you know, as the voting continues, are -- and it narrows now to the three-man race or even the two-man race, does cruz pick up some more states? >> interesting stuff. michael maslansky from maslansky & partners, thank you for joining us. our postgame show. all right, meanwhile, still ahead on a wednesday, no republican has ever become the nominee without winning ohio. after john kasich's victory can donald trump change that trend? former ohio congressman dennis

only two campaigns have a plausible path to the nomination. ours and donald trump's. nobody else has any mathematical possibility whatsoever. only one campaign has beaten donald trump over and over and over again. >> well, ted cruz remained resolute despite multiple losses against trump, but in contention in many states and hopes to win missouri. can he catch up and blow past trump before the july convention? joining us right now is the former ceo of hewlett-packard and the presidential candidate herself, carly fiorina. she's a debate superstar like ted cruz and a supporter of ted cruz. great to see you, carly, welcome back. >> thanks for having me. >> inside the cruz camp, they almost got what they wanted.
get me one-on-one with trump. how much does governor kasich get in the way of that? >> well, look, governor kasich won his home state. i think sort of a minimum expectation, but honestly, he has no path. as ted cruz said last night, there are only two candidates who have a path to the nomination. i would point something else out for your viewers. you know, you had a story about president obama nominating the next supreme court justice. this is why people should unify behind ted cruz. we know exactly the kind of justice that ted cruz will appoint. we have no clue what donald trump will appoint. we don't know what his principles are. in fact, what he said is that he's going to do a deal, that's what he always says, he's going to do a deal with chuck schumer and harry reid on his supreme court picks. look, it's not just the white house that hangs in the balance. the supreme court hangs in the balance. we need a constitutional conservative in the white house. because we need another
constitutional conservative on the bench of the supreme court. so i urge republican voters to unify now behind ted cruz. >> right. so the delegate math looks like this, trump with 621, cruz with 396, and kasich with 138. as john roberts e-mailed me taking missouri brings in 12 delegates. too close to call, to whoever ends up winning that state. in the big picture, the math is almost impossible for ted cruz to overcome. having said that, the national review's rich lowry said any other front-runner at this point in the past would basically have been anointed the nominee. what's the problem, carly fiorina, with letting the people speak and giving trump the nomination? >> well, first let's talk about which people are speaking. look, take nothing away from trump's victories. but he's winning for the most part in open primaries. that is, there are democrats and independents who are voting for him. when we have closed primaries or caucuses, generally speaking,
ted cruz has won. the last time i looked, republican primary voters ought to pick their nominee. and it's also true that i have said from the very moment almost that donald trump announced his candidacy, he doesn't represent me and he doesn't represent my party. and there are a whole lot of republicans -- in fact, 65 to 70% of republicans say they're not going to vote for donald trump. so i think republican primary voters are speaking. i hope other republican party voters would unify behind ted cruz and i hope the establishment will unify behind ted cruz because john kasich cannot win. >> okay. so you would hope for kasich to step aside and leave it one-on-one, cruz, trump and donald trump says he'd like that that too. thank you, carly fiorina. coming up, straight ahead, donald trump here to respond in a matter of moments.
