>> well, i think that's definitely having an impact on the reaction of officers, but i think it's having an impact on the reaction of citizenry as well. because i think they know that officers are being challenged that they are more want a to become a little bit more aggressive. and that also tends to lead officers to back up a little bit because you don't want to be perceived as overly zealous or racist, you're coming under more scrutiny. >> of course, you served 16 years in the department there. you knew officer bolt nl, what can you tell -- bolton, what can you tell us about him? >> officer bolton was a marine, he served over in iraq, he loved being a marine, he loved being a police officer, he loved giving back to his community, and you know, he really loved doing his job. and it's so unfortunate that after an individual who has served this country and came back to serve his community and he had to end his life in such a tragic manner. >> absolutely. i understand, mr. williams, you are asking people not only in memphis, but across the country, and the world, to pray for your city, why? is it true you're not actually preparing for the debate? >> well, i'm not nervous and i would say i am preparing. i'm reading everything. i don't have pollsters telling me what to say. a lot of these folks have pollsters giving them quips and little kills for trump. go give him this line that, line. they've got it memorized. i don't believe in that. it's a not me and it's really not them either they pay a lot of money for these people. i guess that's what they're going to be doing, according to what all of the pundits are saying. >> donald, do you ever get nervous? >> i get nervous. you have to be a little bit nervous. the great athletes are always a little bit nervous. if you're not nervous, you're going to be flat. >> sure. >> so certainly i'm a little bit nervous but i look forward to it at at same time. i think i know the subject matters. there's a lot of matters. we're talking about a lot of different things. >> absolutely. >> i think i know them well. let's see what happens. >> when you look at the recent polls you have a steady hold at the top spot there right now. some are criticizing the fact that you don't have policy proposals. what would be -- if you were to become commander in chief what would be your first line of business, your first executive word? >> many. i want to build up the military so nobody messes with us, bring it back to where it was at the height because we're in such trouble. i would absolutely repeal and replace obamacare. we would make a strong border where people are pouring through where, as you remember, i took tremendous heat. you folks covered it. you were about as nice as anybody could have been to me but it was tough in that first week. everybody is now saying i'm right. i was apologized to by various people who covered it. they apologized because i turned out to be right with kate and all the terrible things that happened since i told people what was going on at the border. illegal immigration is a big, big thing. taking care of our vets, to me, is very important. there's so many things. look, the country is a mess. and there's so many things that we could do. >> i know that over the weekend somebody asked you about the potential for vice president or people in your cabinet. it's way too early to talk about that. but you are from the business world, donald trump. you know, some of the titans of industry. if you were president, would you enlist some of your fellow titans of industry to help you out with some of the troubling problems facing this country? >> well, certainly in the administration, i would. i think maybe for a vp, you want to go political because, you know, to have two business people maybe that's a little bit much. but certainly, steve, within the administration, i would put people in. as an example for negotiation against china, i have people that are so good that they would -- china will be -- believe me, it won't be the same. they're just draining us. they're taking our money. >> these are business leaders? >> oh, yes. they would not be political people. these would be business people. japan. you know, they send millions of cars to the united states. we get nothing. we have to restructure that whole thing because they're making a fortune and we're getting the short shaft. so, you know, it's a whole big thing that i would be doing. and i would certainly use the best business people, the best negotiators in the world. because we have the best negotiators in the world. we don't use them. we use political hacks and people that don't have any talent. >> speculation, donald, this weekend about whether or not joe biden, speaking of vice presidents, would throw his hat into the ring and also word that hillary clinton is just in a huge ad buy. we saw the first ads of the season. who would you rather go up against, hillary or joe biden? do you think biden stands a chance? >> i think that he may very well get in play. she's doing so badly. i think her e-mail problem is a much bigger problem than people are talking about. general petraeus was destroyed for doing much less. much less. what he did was peanuts compared to what she has done. he was destroyed. it's very sad what happened to him. she's in big trouble, i think, with e-mail. i'm not sure she's going to be able to last f you had honorable prosecutors, this would have already taken place but the prosecutors are all democrats. it's a little bit strange what's going on. >> who would be tougher to beat, though? >> i think that it doesn't -- i'm not even fous focused on th. hillary was the worst secretary of state in this country. i think she was very vulnerable. she's very beatable yochlt think she's very beatable by a lot of people running. my first concept and my first focus is to focus on the people we have. right now you have a total of 17 of them. that's where my thought process is, other than i'm talking about constantly the bad job that the president is doing. the horrible job he is doing with the military, with the vets, which is scandalous what's happening at the veterans administration with so many things. health care say disaster. obamacare is a disaster and it doesn't kick in until 2016, really kick in until '16. people aren't talking about it much right now but it's a bomb waiting to explode. >> hillary versus joe biden information, the story this morning is that it sounds like is he 90% in. it sounds like he's going to do it. let me ask you this, donald trump. imagine what kind of choice is barack obama going to have to make on who he would support? >> right. >> go back to the 2012 supposedly president obama made a deal with bill clinton, okay, listen. you help campaign for me and i'll help hillary. fast forward to today, if joe biden, his sitting vice president says, hey, boss, i could use your help, what's barack obama going to do? >> it's going to be a tough position for him. assuming he supports anybody and maybe behind the scenes he will support biden. biden has been loyal to obama. loyal to a fault because so many of the things have been so bad. but he has been very loyal to obama. and i think if he was going to be forced to support somebody, everybody says the word is that he just doesn't like the clintons. and i don't know if that's true or not true. but in theory, he does not like hillary and he does not like the clintons. so you would think if he was going to be forced he may very well go with biden. we'll have to see what happens. i don't know how effective biden is going to be. he has his own problems. >> that's one problem in the democratic party. the other may be that their spokesperson, debbie wasserman schultz, after being asked what's the difference between democrats and socialists -- what's the difference between your artery and socialism, she couldn't answer. she was asked again. watch. >> can you explain the difference? >> it's always fun to be interviewed by chris matthews and i know he enjoys that banter. the important distinction i think we'll be discussing, i'm confident we'll be discussing in this campaign is the difference between democrats and republicans. >> no straight talk there. >> she's a terrible spokesperson. i watched that and thought it was terrible. i thought her performance was terrible. i really think she is not a good spokesperson for whoever she is represented. frankly, you know, i hope she stays in that position. assuming i get it -- assuming i win i hope she stays in that position. she is so bad at representing the views of the democrats that it's absolutely incredible. >> is reince preibus a good spokesperson for the republicans? >> i was at the top of the list, they loved me very much. maybe the love dissipated when i said i'm running because i don't want to be establishment. i don't want to be a politician, all talk, no action. i want to get things done. over the last week or so we've develop aid very good relationship. he is a good man. i've known him for a long time. he's trying to do the right thing. we have developed a very good relationship. >> at the debate this thursday, if someone throws a punch, how strong will your counter punch be? >> he nailed it. he has sort of a way of making what's the obvious resonate. it's not political speak but truly an observational thing that a lot of americans feel, including many on the left and particularly blacks. he is speaking the truth. if you look at the wall street versus main street, wall street completely winning in this battle. if you look at the wealth gap, the income gap between the rich and the poor which, unfortunately, blacks are more among the poor, that gap has widened under obama. you look at schools. black schools are pathetic. the neighborhoods are pathetic. jobless rate among blacks is outrageously low. yeah, he's speaking the obvious. like he did with immigration when he's talking about people coming across the border, he's making people stop and think maybe this is true. >> he said he would probably win the african-american vote. just in the african-american community, just like across all of america, the number one thing people are worried about is the economy and jobs. and people know here is a guy who is a billionaire, who knows all about business. >> well, you know, we had romney, we had forbes. he's probably being a little optimistic there. i do believe he would be able to resonate within the black community to a degree. certainly would put the democrats on notice that they're not just going to steal the votes. again, trump is not coming off as a politician. he's coming off as more of a media figure, certainly as a business person. and i think it is going to make people say you know what? maybe we should start listening more and not give our votes to the democrats and let them pander. >> sure. you said trump is right. if obama were white, he would be ridiculed by the black community. what do you mean by that? >> undoubtedly. undoubtedly. if you were to switch any -- if you were to make obama republican, there would be pitch forks and burning at the white house. certainly if he were a white democrat there would be a lot more scolding of him and people would be discussing his record in more depth. but because he's getting this pass because a lot of the black community essentially coddles him, he's able to get away with a lot of these things. people like trump. the more discussion that gets brought up about how barack obama is truly performing, you'll see the backlash happening. rumblings are in the black community that we're overly unemployed, don't own our homes. business starts are down. schools are pathetic. somebody mentioned the crime rate. i think trump mentioned the crime rate in the black community to epidemic proportions and cop killings. his bringing it up in a nonpolitical sort of atmosphere will really put it to light. >> he has touched another nerve, which he has done a lot of so far this campaign. kevin jackson not far from the gateway arch in st. louis, thank you very much. >> my pleasure. coming up next on the rundown on this monday, somebody creeped into her bed late at night and she thought, is that my dog? perry and kasich, right? >> it will be interesting to see. a lot can happen between now and tuesday, depending what kind of polls come out. our decision team is working on crunching the numbers. it will be an average of five major national polls and we'll make a decision tuesday evening some time. the cutoff is 5:00 pm, as you mentioned, tuesday. that's the top ten. the bottom seven, though, will also have a debate that same night on the same stage with bill hemmer and martha mccollum. they will all be on the stage, just at different times. >> a big moment on thursday that they're all going to try to clench or not lose the lead with trump. and if he does get the nomination, he could be facing joe biden? close advisers to biden, who are remaining unnamed, reportedly saying he is 90% likely to run and jump in. so we asked donald trump today, if you are facing hillary or you're facing joe biden, what would it be like? we also asked him about the predicament that the president would be in in terms of where his allegiance would remain. >> hillary was the worst secretary of state in the history of this country. i think she is very vulnerable. i think she very beatable. i don't think she's very beatable by a lot of the people that are running. my first concept and my first thing is to focus totally on the people that we have. you have now 17 of them, a total of 17 and that's really where my thought process is. one thing about biden, he has been loyal to obama. loyal to a fault because so many of the things have been so bad. but he has been very loyal to obama. and i think if he was going to be forced to support somebody, everybody says the word is that he just doesn't like the clintons. and i don't know if that's true or not true. but, you know, in theory, he does not like hillary and he does not like the clintons. >> so, bret, if joe biden got in -- and apparently one of the things that is weighing on his mind is the fact that his son, about. -- beau, who died, said in his final weeks, dad, i want you to run. who would the president support? supposedly in 2012 the president made a deal with bill clinton, you campaign for me and i'll support hillary. >> it's a great question. he would probably stay neutral for some time but would likely, i agree, lean toward vice president biden. overseas just last week the president said i think i could win a third term. that was kind of a pointed moment in who would take the torch close toast what the obama administration has done so far. and it's the guy standing behind president obama there, vice president biden, one would think. i do think it would change the dynamic tremendously in the democratic party. >> great point. >> al gore, one of the big criticisms of al gore was that he didn't utilize bill clinton enough and waited till the end to do it and ended up not winning his home state. obama is such a great campaigner, so difficult for both of them not to want to utilize president obama. >> definitely. and i think that would be really the story line for that entire campaign. listen, if he gets in -- and all indications are he's leaning that way -- it shakes everything up. this could be why, all this talk about bide thn this week is als the same week that hillary is launching all these ads. people are saying because the gop is in the spotlight but some of this is about biden and the attention of him getting in as well. >> some have suggested one of the reasons she's running the ads is because bernie sanders is doing better and better. i'm sure you saw this. debbie wasserman schultz last week was asked by chris matthews what's the difference between a democrat and a socialist? well, she couldn't really delineate the two or chose not to. she was asked again about it yesterday by chuck todd. finally, she'll answer it. right? let's watch. >> can you explain the difference? >> you know, chuck, it's always off and on to be interviewed by chris matthews and i know that he enjoys that banter. the important distinction i think we'll be discussing and i'm confident we'll be discussing in this campaign is the difference between democrats and republicans. >> there are some who have suggested maybe the reason she didn't say the difference is because these days many say there really isn't much of a difference between democrat sths and socialist party. >> the second bite at the apple on the same network, one would think you would have a different answer than maybe the first time. bernie sanders calls himself a socialist but it's really a socialist democrat. more like a european social democracy. in other words, not a pure socialist, take over all the companies and fight capitalism. there is a difference. the fact that the dnc chair can't articulate that difference is pretty striking. and the fact that bernie sanders is as successful on the stump as he is is also pretty striking. >> people are going to ask her until she finally answers, aren't they? >> if a child or adult is drowning do not jump in the water unless it's a small baby that you can actually reach. you should have a skimmer or anchor next to your pool and you would slide them over to the edge. you pick them up by their wrist, put them on a flat surface on their back. if they're unresponsive, you then would start cpr. >> okay. and we've got a specimen here. >> we do. >> and a couple of weeks ago, we heard that you're supposed to do the rhythm to "staying alive." >> absolutely. >> when i was a lifeguard growing up, we checked the airways first. a, b, c. but now it's all reverse. >> it's all reverse now. >> first thing i want to do? >> place the palm of your hand in the center of the breast bone. correct. put your other hand on top of that and start compressing at a rate of 100 per minute. >> to the beat of "staying alive." >> to the beat of "staying alive." >> what about the breathing part? you don't want to turn the person over? or how -- leave them laying flat on their back? >> you see water start coming out of their mouth, you tilt them to the side? >> then they become responsive. >> you were showing me during the commercial break, you use two fingers or -- >> or two thumbs, whichever you're comfortable with. directly in the center of the two nipples of the baby press also at a rate of 100 per minute, of a depth to 1 to 1 1/2 inches. >> how do you know if you're not going enough? will you feel -- >> you won't feel anything really. you may feel a little resistance. and it is possible to feel a little crackling going on. >> if you were taking a child out of the pool, obviously, there's water in the lungs or the throat or something like that, rather than turn them upside down like this, you say just the chest compressions will force the water out? joining us right now is fox analyst peter johnson jr. >> there is a trump revolution. a lot of americans are saying i want to see him return that ball from the ten yard line and go another 90 yards, bringing big business, big media, big politics. all of those people want him to fail and crash and burn big time. a lot of americans say -- we heard this time and time again from a lot of pundits. they're really saying we're sick and tired of it. we want someone who is going to stand up and someone who is big enough not to get crushed by the same interests that are crushing us in america. they say that in trump. they're not quite sure what he stands for. on some issues on veterans, immigration and a couple of issues. they're saying this is refreshing. there's a new paradigm. he doesn't have the naivety or innocence of mr. smith. remember jimmy stewart in mr. smith goes to washington? >> sure. >> he busts open the united states senate. they're saying will donald trump go and bust open the white house in a way that's really important for america's future? whether you like him or you don't like him, you need to take him seriously. there are a lot of these so-called pundits on tv who say he can't win. 16 of these republicans can't win. there's only going to be one nominee. he can't win. we can't take him seriously. it's ridiculous. >> because it's the conventional wisdom. a guy like him who didn't go to politician school couldn't possibly wind up being the nominee. >> so there will be character assassination. we read yesterday -- i read in a story the other day he is the new senator joe mccarthy. >> what? >> or somehow he's howard biel network. the mr. smith comparison is better, i think, because there's a freshness to him. there's also an augustinian quality to him. st. augustine was a bad guy. not that donald trump wases a bad guy but he was basically a corrupter and corrupting. politicians, part of the game, giving money out. have them at my wedding. have them here. have them there. i know how that works. i'm done with that and want to change things in this country. i don't know whether he can win or whether he can lose or what's going to happen. there's something to be learned from democrats and republicans. in this debate trump needs to be himself. he needs to be donald trump for whatevers tha whatever that is, good or bad. the moment he starts to sound like a politician -- then he loses. if trump is trump, if he's the marketer, the thinker, the repetitor -- people love when you repeat things. will he do very, very well ultimately in this debate. >> after the debate, we'll be look at the sound bites of the debate. invariably, you know donald trump is going to have some gems. >> sure. >> the other candidate also as well. >> they'll insult him and he'll insult them back. more importantly, what will he say about the future of this country? how do you make america again? that's the test for these incredibly good candidates. there's an incredibly good field. will they be able to motivate him, will he be able to motivate them? will they make the dialogue better? [ barking ] my dog, charlie, would do that every time i would come home. why? well, there is now science to help explain why they're so excited each time you open the door. andrea ardin is a certified dog trainer and director of andrea ardin dog training. >> hello. >> did you put this one in my hands because -- >> because i figured you would get shed all over? exactly. it was my joke for the day. >> it comes down to -- it's this simple. your dog sees you and thinks there's my owner. no. it has to do with your smell. >> in great part. the study was done at emory university. they trained dogs to go into mri machines, which was a task in and of itself. they had to lay still for hours. >> difficult for humans. >> the smell that took priority overall others was the smell of their familiar people. you would think smells of food and that sort of thing would take priority. no. human smells. >> when the dog smelled you, then what happened in their brain? >> actually, they showed in the reward center of the brain there was a lot of activity there. another study was done a little while ago that was on the sound that dogs react to and found that the sounds of familiar human voices, the dogs had the same response as the smell. >> in the rewards center? >> exactly. >> i think this dog thinks i have bacon in my pocket or in my hand. >> bake con! >> thanks to the humane society for bringing us these sweet friends. is that titus on the end? you have a good sense of smell. this is not just about my owner has a treat in his pocket. this is about care and needs being met with the smell? >> yes. one of the important things that's a take away from these studies, it shows us that, of course, we know we all love animals and we've had a relationship with dogs for over 30,000 years, companions, service animals. it's a reciprocal relationship. there really is love there and it shows people hopefully that we need to treat them with respect. they have feelings, emotions and deserve our respect. >> when you get home and the dog does that, they just over dodo is there any way to train the dog, give me some loving when i come in the door but not so much loving? >> over the top, enthusiastic when we come home. keep in mind that behavior, as cute as it is on video, can resultny adog who develops separation issues. they're so excited when you come home that when you leave it's very black and white. it's hard for them to deal with that extreme change. wait until they have four paws on the floor, they've calmed down a little bit. that's when you reward them with their attention. >> you're not rewarding that frantic -- >> exactly. >> calm, confident -- >> exactly. very well said. >> so cute. >> roger's out of here. >> talk about love. titus is just hanging. >> titus is an 8-year-old st. bernard, a dog with somebody for his whole life. they could no longer care for him and surrendered him to a shelter, humane society. he has a lot of love left to give, though. >> any of the dogs are available in the humane society of new york. does that dog walk you or do you walk him?
