>> absolutely. griff: now this after a call between obama and former staffers was leaks to yahoo news on friday where in obama misstates the charges against flynn as perjury and blasts attorney general barr's decision to drop the flynn case. >> that's the kind of stuff where you begin to get worried that basic, not just institutional norms, but our basic understanding of rule of law is at -- is at risk. griff: as for when judge emit sullivan might sign off on flynn's dismissal could come today or could call the government's attorneys to account for their decision. we will find out. either way former congressman trey gowdy says wow a lead predicate for the prosecution,. >> good luck prosecuting the case, judge. have you got to have a prosecutor to prosecute the indicates. so if the doj is not moving forward on michael flynn i don't think the judge is going to do it himself. griff griff finally vice president pence is weighing in. michael flynn was fired in 2017 for lying to pence. thought veep says he would be happy to see michael flynn again. we might see him at the briefing this afternoon there were reports he was self-quarantining because of that staffer that tested positive. he hasn't tested positive. so he will be there today. we will see if he has more to say, steve, ainsley, brian. steve: griff jenkins, thank you very much. the live report from our nation's capital. going back to what we heard homes ago ainsley and brian. members of the obama administration have a lot of explaining to do. it goes back to wasn't there a passage between strzok and page that says the white house wanted to know everything we were doing. potus wants to know everything we are doing. the white house was running this. and now it has all been revealed because the department of justice, it looks like, as early as today could drop those charges. chris christie also had a decision in his best interest announced this past week. and said it was a very bad week for the obama department of justice. listen. >> i was a u.s. attorney and worked with fbi agents and what they did with mike flynn was an absolutely classic perjury trap. one this week as well that involved me and my former team. the supreme court rejected 9 to 0 a false prosecution brought by the obama justice department and a vindictive prosecutor politically motivated against folks who worked for me when i was governor of new jersey. it's a bad week for the obama justifiable department and taking the covers off of what was some really awful conduct by prosecutors and investigators. and i usually stand up for these folks but you cannot defend this conduct. steve: and so brian and ainsley going forward, it will be interesting to see exactly how official obama administration folks do react to the news coming out. you know, a lot of it is along partisan lines. some people think flynn is getting a raw deal. got a raw deal. now it's being fixed and other people are saying hey, look, they are throwing the entire department of justice and the good men and women who worked there under the bus. brian: never charged with perjury. president obama is flat out wrong. i don't know if he is ticked off or actually knew when he was on that call with the obama alumni team that he just assumed everything is going to leak out, but i guess he has that conversation. it leaks out not only about the pandemic response from the trump team but also about his case with flynn. he believes the rule of law is in the balance. jonathan turley who is a democrat comes out and says the rule of law? number one he noted this flynn was never charged with perjury and that his claim with no precedent is wrong. all he has to do is look at eric holder. he says go back 10 years united states vs. stephens where president obama's own attorney general eric holder asked the same judge in the flynn case to dismiss that case. it was roughly 10 years ago so he didn't even have to go back. he is the law student and former law professor and he acted as if on a private call with his alumni that this never happened again. one thing is pretty clear. when this elections happens and they finally kick into gear. it's not going to be biden against trump. it is going to be obama against trump. and joe biden is just going to be out there. that's pretty clear, ainsley. ainsley: well, yeah. they go hand in hand. he was his vice president so you are right about that brian. we just want the truth. the truth should trump politics in every way. thank goodness that these transcripts, those 53 transcripts came out last week because now we know the truth of what james clapper really said and samantha power and susan rice and sally yates. the truth is coming out now and everybody wants to get to the bottom of this. here is man who was going to go to prison, lost his house, spent millions of dollars. and he says justice has been served now. he is putting up that picture of the american flag that's waiving. waving. his grandson singing the national anthem. we just want to know the truth. and today the judge will probably sign off on this because there are no charges now to throw him behind bars. and the vice president was asked whether or not he would welcome him back in the white house yesterday by axios. and the vice president said he would. this could pave the way for flynn to finally get a job and pay off some of his debt, steve. steve: and speaking of yesterday, ainsley, more on that later. but, i hope you had a lovely mother's day with your daughter i saw on instagram you did, too. will brian said, dawn, i'm going to take you on a great date. where are we going to go the grocery store, the gas station or the liquor store? brian: the pharmacy. that's the only three places we are allowed to go and maybe in the park as long as we don't subject bathe. ainsley: how was yours? did you get to talk toot least cathy at least? steve: we were able to do a face time or two which is good. but the good news is, things all across the country are very slowly starting to reopen. and that brings us to another fox news alert. steve: back in business. open signs spreading across the united states as a dozen states ease restrictions later on today. restaurants in the states of alabama, arizona, arkansas, and south carolina all preparing to reopen, brian. brian: absolutely. you have salons and barbershops that can reopen today in florida. that's good news. along with mississippi, which is also reopening gyms. got that, new york? and vermont manufacturing plants are up and running with restrictions; ainsley. ainsley: yes. that's right. vice president pence scheduled to check-in with all the governors over a conference call this morning. his team denying reports that he self-isolates or is in self-isolation after his press secretary tested positive for the virus. president trump will update the nation on testing later today. steve: that's right. and you know i read this morning in the "the washington post" there was some -- actually some good news yesterday. the lowest number of deaths and new cases since late march, which is terrific. now, when you look at the economic signals today, the stock market futures are up. london is up about 1%. asia finished up as well. global markets are recovering in hopes that there will be a quick recovery. you know, a v-shape thing where we were up here. we went down and by the grace of god we go right back up. the problem is if things do not, brian, you know, if going forward there is another spike or there is a rebound in this particular virus and that could mess everything up. brian: right. absolutely. there has got to be a plan, steve, quick reaction team. something is happening in albany new york or albany, georgia. let's flood resources to that area. doesn't mean the whole state has to be shut down. what you have to understand is the president of the united states, along with democrats and republicans in congress put together a plan, the ppp plan and the rescue act and the cares act in order to give people some time to stay in their jobs, keep their businesses afloat while they attacked that virus. that money was running out. it was money we did not have. you don't have the luxury of saying let's wait a little while and have everything perfect. you have to get the economy up or we won't have a country to defend there won't be a gym in new york in business if they wait another few weeks. right now the 8 weeks when you gave the ppp money out week and a half left. second surge about two and a half weeks left. just flat out of money go belly up. so far in georgia it's going well and i hear in colorado it's going well except for that one horrific scene we saw on mother's day with people just ignoring everything. in new york 22 straight weeks decrease in the number of hospitalizations and the number of cases. i don't think there is any question you told everyone to bend the curve. we are bending it. don't moft goal post. here is steve mnuchin on the downside of waiting. >> the reported numbers are probably going to get worse before they get better. but that's why we are focused on rebuilding this economy. we will have a better third quarter. we will have a better fourth quarter and next year is going to be a great year. if we do this carefully working with the governors, i don't think there is a considerable risk. as a matter of fact, i think there is a considerable risk of not reopening. you are talking about what would be permanent economic damage to the american public. brian: i should say 22 straight days. keep in mind, too. this week we have a bunch of governors taking -- doing -- being aggressive, perhaps. mississippi, and georgia, colorado, and florida. and then you have got what's going on in illinois and pennsylvania. which is people in rural and suburban communities besides themselves who want to do this horrible thing that is keep their family fed like you have a dealership in pennsylvania. like if you have a gym in illinois where outside of chicago everything is decreasing rapidly but you have governors going i'm going to wait and change the rules again? i feel so bad for these people who want to see a light at the end of the tunnel. ainsley: i think everyone wants to see a light at the end of the tunnel. everyone has to do. this jobless numbers 14.7. almost 15%. great depression numbers were 25%. when you hear steve mnuchin saying we could approach that it could get to 20%. i have heard 25%. one i think kevin hassett said 20%. the white house advisor and steve mnuchin up to 25%. those are lives, too. people are out of work. everyone wants to get back to normal. i was talking to a friend yesterday who said she went into new york city to pick up her mail. she said over the weekend the weather was nice so she said everyone was out and about in new york city. and she said i feel like everyone is getting a little tired of this. but, if we reopen we just want to do it safely. think with all those little restaurants on new york streets. the one on the corner where that's the only restaurant that feeds that whole family are they done? i hope not. we will see. brian: if they can't open soon they willable done. steve: we all do. so many people have had so much on the line. but, at the same time, we have to remember, there are parts of this country that have no infection. you know, they are vulnerable. ainsley: right. steve: but new york, new jersey, connecticut, where we are, this is a hot spot. and so they have got to figure it out. and that's why it's so frustrating because we know we have pretty good feeling that new york city could be the last big town to open in america. anyway, more on that little later on 6:15 in new york city. brian: steve, let me add one more thing before we go to jillian. i agree with you there are hot spots but not all of new jersey and not all of new york. they have got to get to the mayors and county executives in new jersey and new york and pennsylvania and say okay, we can do this section. we can't do philadelphia. maybe manhattan has got to wait but maybe nassau and suffolk county don't. that's hard work. they have got to get out of their state houses and do the hard work. steve: well, let's see what happens. you know, the one size fits all approach does not really fit because there are different spots that are hot and different spots that are cold. all right. it is 6:14 now in the new york city area. and jillian joins us right now. she has got some headlines. hey, jillian. jillian: good morning. start with fox news alert. actor and comedian gary stiller died. his son announcing the news. best known as frank castanza in steinfeld. >> surrender me now. >> what is that. >> the doctor gave me a relaxation cassette when my blooblood pressure gets too higt says surrender me now. jillian: best dad and grandfather and the most dedicated husband to anne for about 62 years. he will be greatly missed. jerry stiller was 92. department of justice investigate the handling of the ahmaud arbery case. sparked widespread outrage online showing what led up to his killing. a black man seen running when a white father and son confront him. both were arrested and charged with arbery's murder last week. after coming under fire after the handling of nursing home coronavirus outbreaks. new york governor andrew cuomo appearing to reverse course. hospitals cannot send patients back to long-term care facilities unless they tested negative for the virus. that move essentially invalidating a march directive that required nursing homes to take on new patients with covid-19. critics say that accelerated outbreaks. world war ii era planes taking flight on houston on mother's day. v-25 and t 6 among the 30 war birds to celebrate marking the end of world war ii. organized by the flight museum as part of their fight to the finish. that's a look at your headlines. send it back to you. ainsley: so cool. steve: cool. brian: that is prettyia amazing. thank you so much, jillian. documents show as we move ahead president obama knew about michael flynn's wiretapped calls with kislyak. andy mccarthy said that is not even the worst part. he is on deck. these are extraordinary times, and we want to thank the extraordinary people in the healthcare community, working to care for all of us. at novartis, we promise to do our part. as always, we're doing everything we can to help keep cosentyx accessible and affordable. if you have any questions at all, call us, email us, visit us online. we're here to help support you when you need us. take care, and be well. to learn more, call one eight four four cosentyx or visit cosentyx.com "show me what you're made of." so we showed it our people, sourcing and distributing more fresh food than anyone... we showed it our drivers helping grocers restock their shelves. we showed it how we're donating millions of meals to those in need. we showed it how we helped thousands of restaurants convert to takeout and pop up markets. and how we're encouraging all americans to take out to give back. adversity came to town. so we looked it right in the eye. and it won't be us... ...that blinks first. now through may 17, enjoy free access to the best shows and movies from favorites like hbo, showtime, starz and for the first time ever, hulu and peacock! watch the show starring that guy you saw in that other thing... you know the one. or the series this kid on reddit says is "legit," punch emoji, explosion emoji. even the one with the actor people say looks just like your boss. and maybe sounds like him too. put your phones down. everyone's got a show to recommend. watch the best for free. just say "watchathon" into your voice remote, or download the xfinity stream app. brian: more revelations in the michael flynn case as his attorney says his charges could be release today. president obama new about flynn's call with russian ambassador kislyak. the obama white house and fbi collaborated to invent the russian collusion narrative while the justice department stayed asleep at the switch. did they even know it was happening? columnist for the review andy mccarthy. first off, do you think loretta lynch, sally yates were out of the loop intentionally or were they really in the dark? >> no, i think they dropped the ball, brian, mary mccore who was the head of the justice department's national security division. the 302 or the would you have of her that's included in the justice department submission last week says that andrew mccabe the deputy director ever the fbi told her about the flynn kislyak two days before yates had meeting at the white house. they didn't communicate it to yates at the justice department. the fbi did a lot wrong here i don't think they held off on yates. i think they didn't run the doj well at that point. brian: they just brought brought the case president obama got it. we knew that the russians had done something with our election. it's after the election. looks like president trump wins, flight so president obama knows that every time kislyak makes a call we are taping it. and kislyak knows that we all know it? >> flynn knows it flynn gets unmasked and that's gets "the washington post" david ignatius. anything wrong so far? >> nothing wrongs. this is the thing, brian. this is what drives you crazy about president obama pontificating about the rule of law. one of the last official acts that obama did was to pardon an saln terrorist to spring him from federal prison. so in obama's world it's okay to obstruct the fast and furious investigation in which an american agent died because of the way the justice department and its agencies ran that investigation. it's okay to obstruct the irs abuse of americans who were trying to marshall themselves together for purposes of the election in 2012 against obama. and you spring a convicted terrorist but tough press ahead with the case against a decorated american combat veteran against whom they don't have a case. brian: amazing. andy, let me roll in where president obama said friday on his alumni call that it leaked to yahoo. listen. >> that's the kind of stuff where you begin to get worried that basic -- not just institutional norms, but our basic understanding of rule of law is -- is at risk. brian: is it, weand? >> really? you have -- you started with attorney general under obama being held in contempt for misleading congress and obstructing the investigation in fast and furious. and you end by springing an faln terrorist from prison. and the problem with the rule of slaw mike flynn? brian: i hear you. you want to point out something else in front of the judge. there is no case against mike flynn. what do you mean by that? >> yeah. that's best reason. we are having this big debate about materiality. that's the main thing the justice department went with. because they said there is no legitimate underlying investigation, nothing he said whether it was false or not could have been material. that's fine as far as it goes. the best reason to drop a case is that the government can't prove guilt yard, which is always the government's burden. in this case, the only evidence against flynn, that is the evidence of what he said in the interview, is the testimony of peter strzok and joe meaning can piienke.the proof that would hae out is that the fbi played games with the 302, which is the interview memorandum that is supposed to have summarized what flynn said in the interview. flynn's comments are eequivocal. the two witnesses that would be testifying about them are incredible. those witnesses thought flynn told them the truth. you can't prove guilt yard if that's your case and if you don't have a case, you have an ethical responsibility as a prosecutor to drop it, which is what the justice department did last week. brian: also unequivocal there are few better people in the country to talk about this case than you. andy. thanks so much. >> thanks, brian. brian: you got it. as california slowly starts to reopen. one gym owner says speed it up before it's too late. his warning about the economy and jobs next. if you have moderate to severe psoriasis, ...little things... ...can become your big moment. that's why there's otezla. otezla is not a cream. it's a pill that treats plaque psoriasis differently. with otezla, 75% clearer skin is achievable. don't use if you're allergic to otezla. it may cause severe diarrhea, nausea or vomiting. otezla is associated with an increased risk of depression. tell your doctor if you have a history of depression or suicidal thoughts or if these feelings develop. some people taking otezla reported weight loss. your doctor should monitor your weight and may stop treatment. upper respiratory tract infection and headache may occur. tell your doctor about your medicines, and if you're pregnant or planning to be. otezla. show more of you. while most of the world is being asked to stay inside, there are people out there giving it their all. so, to everyone who is helping keep us safe against covid-19 day in and day out, all of us at amgen say... thank you. ♪ steve: state of california now in phase 2 of its reopening as governor gavin newsom out there hints phase 3, which would include salons and gyms could be opening a month from now. but our next guest who owns gyms across the country is urging the california governor to relax these restrictions, claiming they are doing more harm than good. here to explain fed degrees julian the founder of fit body boot camp. febedbedros. >> thank you for having me. steve: if i go to the gym i want to make sure i'm safer and the people who run the gym are safe. what are you doing all across the country to make sure that your customers and your trainers are safe? film. why are people so focused on this? because flynn was the beginning of the destruction of the original team that trump was putting together from k.t. america farland to michael flynn. they both were led toward the exits at a time in which the administration was just getting its feet underneath them. the big picture is. this before you get caught up into the nuances michael flynn as the incoming national security advisor had every right to talk to every country in the world. and it's totally normal, i understand for national security advisors to say to people in this case russia. sanctions coming down. don't overreact. i will hit the ground running. much like the former secretary of state going to the middle east telling the iranian leaders don't worry if trump does last four years we will go ahead. probably not going to get impeached. going to go ahead and go back to that deal if you just be patient. neither of which is heervel but that's the way it's done. i don't think, ainsley, that michael flynn was exactly clear that he was -- what he was doing was not wrong or against the law. having a conversation with the ambassador of russia on anything is something that goes with his job description and that's why i can't wait to hear from michael flynn for the first time as he expands on his role on what took place. ainsley: yeah. i mean, brian, if this could happen to him who else could this happen to? that's what's scary. listen to his attorney sidney powell over the weekend maria interviewed her over the weekend comey and mccabe found the transcript between flynn and kislyak. they briefed clapper. they have that meeting in the oval office on the 5th. and comey admits that the fbi unmasked flynn. and sally yates remember sally yates said something she was shocked one of the 53 transcripts she didn't know about this. sidney powells is they didn't tell sally yates. she was at the doj. she was a top person at the doj. she should have known about this if they were doing something. and his attorney says that this was all a set-up and the president should not have been involved in this. here is what dan bongino says. >> there is a text and an email exchange out there that clearly says the white house is running this between the fbi agents, who are talking about the case. so how do we know the white house is running it? they texted each other. and they say well, we don't know they were talking about that. what do you think the fbi was talking about making brownies? they were talking about this case. we have another one, the potus. anna: cripple anymore for president the united states wants to know everything that was doing. the president was barack obama. he knew the whole time and he has managed to state. that's why he is panicked and that's why his team is leaking this audio. >> why we want to do this to flynn's life and people behind the scenes are saying because he didn't agree with the president on iran when he was the director of the defense intelligence agency. the director of the defense intelligence agency is expected to go along with the administration. steve? steve: well, good news for flynn it sounds like the doj might get the charges dismissed later on today so we will keep people posted on that. in the meantime, this was one of the big topics, obviously, on the sunday chat shows. and as it turns out, catherine herridge who used to be at fox. got an interview with the attorney general at the department of justice. they were socially distanced about 10 feet, it looks like. they ran a clip on cbs and they ran a portion of that clip on nbc on meet the press. but meet the press and chuck todd are taking a lot of heat on this monday morning because that particular clip was very edited. some have suggested deceptively to make it appear that the attorney general was being very, very political. watch this. this is what ran on meet the press yesterday. >> when history looks back on this decision, how do you think it will be written? >> well, history is written by the winners. largely depends on who is writing the history. >> i was struck, peggy by the cynicism of the answer. it's a correct answer but he is the attorney general. he didn't make the case that he was upholding the rule of law. he was almost admitting that yeah, this is a political job. steve: and what is extraordinary about what chuck todd just said right there is how he was struck by the answer. as it turns out, nbc did not run the full answer where the attorney general says he did uphold the rule of law. if you want to see that. go over to cbs. this is the original unhe edited clip that nbc did not run. >> when history looks back on this decision, how do you think it will be written? >> well, history is written by the winners. largely depends on who is writing the history. but i think a fair history would say it was a good decision because it upheld the rule of law. it upheld the standards of the department of justice. and it undid what was an injustifiable. brian: that was the william barr statement that really characterizes what he meant and what he said. and, guess what? meet the press admitted it. you are correct. earlier today, we inadvertently and inratly cut short an interview with a.g. barr before offering commentary and analysis. the remaining clip included important remarks from the attorney general that we missed and we regret the error. that also the cat is out of the barn or course out of a barn. i don't think cats belong in a barn. steve: there are barn cats. ainsley: cat is out of bag. brian: cats in a barn don't belong there especially if there is a horse. we are going to go over that again. we should gear the show more towards the rural community. in the big picture, every sunday show outside of chris wallace is 95% how bad a president donald trump is and everyone that works for him and it's just different ways of saying it. you have got to see chuck todd spends the whole hour finding different ways to say how inadequate the response has been and how much he hopes president trump doesn't win re-election. so, it does not surprise me that that comes out. but the attorney general, i just want people to examine the case that's why when conscious says we might pick up the michael flynn case. how dare you. take the case. you put him in front of you. good luck with that you do not have facts on your side. i almost say go ahead. go examine it. and watch it blow up. ainsley: i want to know what our viewers think of this. send us your emails foxnews.com. do fbi. i believe the best place to start for reform at the fbi really begins with our effort to reform the foreign intelligence surveillance act or fisa this week in the senate. that's why i have introduced, along with senator pat leahy from vermont, a bipartisan amendment that would substantially reform fisa and make things like this less possible in the future. steve: you know, we did hear from the department of justice, senator, the inspector general the doj ig who took a look at what happened, particularly the fisa applications regarding carter pagement and i think they found 17 bigs leader, senator mcconnell who is in your party, we don't need any amendments. just vote on this straight through. why doesn't he want make sure go forward. >> i'm not sure. you would have to ask senator mcconnell that what i do know is most of my colleagues, democrats and republicans alike, want fisa reform. and we understand that the prove precise mixture of so-called reforms put in place by nancy pelosi's house of representatives in their bill that they passed a couple months ago is inadequate. it doesn't do the job. they have made some errors. perhaps there was a good faith effort underway over there to bring about reforms. the reforms we need are found in the lee leahy amendment. and that's what's going to pass this week. steve: what's curious, senator, had there been third party oversight or some sort of oversight with this particular provision of the fisa, you know, you would think that the fbi would not have been able to get the fisa application approved to spy on carter page and by extension the entire trump campaign or the three reauthorization. we might have had a much different past four years had there actually been fisa oversight. >> yeah, that's right. that certainly would have been the case, for example, with respect to general flynn. we know that disgraced fbi agent peter strzok took three weeks before submitting a report. and during that three-week period between the time when he interviewed flynn and the time he issued his report, he made substantial modifications to it. this along with a number of reports we have received recently involve a public official, a public campaign a political staffer, a media organization, a church, anything like that. the foreign intelligence surveillance act court really ought to have that tom: everyone was mailed a ballot. every registered voter. this is clearly the democrats trying to rig the election, steal it at the last minute and i can tell you the president and his team are watching because if it can happen in los angeles county, they are going to do it all across the country. this is not -- this is not american. everyone has a ballot, everyone should vote. by the way, if we flip the seat tomorrow in california, if we can win in la county, the republicans, we can take back the majority in november and they know it. brian: christy smith was a republican and not anymore obviously. we look forward to seeing what happens congressman emmer, thank you so much. warned the economy will get worse before it gets better. white house trade adviser peter navarro say it is recovery will take years but there's a silver lining, he joins us later with that line some companies still have hr stuck between employees and their data. entering data. changing data. more and more sensitive, personal data. and it doesn't just drag hr down. it drags the entire business down -- with inefficiency, errors and waste. it's ridiculous. so ridiculous. with paycom, employees enter and manage their own data in a single, easy to use software. visit paycom.com, and schedule your demo today. start with a round brush head. how do your teeth get a dentist-clean feeling? >> i think the next one should be around 20. chris: aren't we close to 25% at this point which is great depression neighborhood? >> chris, we could be. the reported numbers are probably going to get worse before they get better. steve: okay, some of the administration officials talking on the sunday chat shows about the economy going forward after we get through this pandemic. let's bring in peter navarro, director of the office of trade and manufacturing national defense production act policy coordinator as well. he joins us as you can see from the north lawn of the white house, peter, good morning to you. peter: good morning. what's going on? steve: doing okay. you know, the numbers were jaw-dropping, 20, 25%. the president has made it sound as if -- >> peter: let my say something about that, this was a pity party yesterday on the show, george it was a pity party. everyone who thinks it's the great depression doesn't understand history or economics. the great depression was a ten-year process that came out at the end of world world war id went through deflation and inflation cycle by catastrophic application currently trade fiscal and monetary policy and lasted a very, very long time. here is what we have here, president donald j trump build the most strongest and beautiful economy in 3 and a half years and the communist party dropped a virus on the world that within 60 days has temporarily shut us down and what -- all we need to do here is focus on the mission, the original mission of donald j. trump which is to bring manufacturing onshore, to have the american people make things here and we will move forward in a way where we will rebound. now it's going to be a long process because of the structural adjustments that are going to take place as we adapt to the virus socially and culturally and economically, but this great depression pity party i saw yesterday, this ain't that and we have a great president here who built up this economy once and he can do it again and will do it again, so let's -- let's -- we need to focus on what's -- what's in the future here and it's a bright future. steve: right. and i'm glad that you made the distinction about the depression being a decade long and as you just said this is going to be temporary but when you've got those two top advisers saying it could be 20%, 25% unemployment, even temporarily there are a lot of people hurting and as you said it's going to be temporary and we will get back to normal eventually over a very long period of time. peter: here, look, we are the greatest country in the world. the american conceptualism because we are greater innovators and freest country in the world and the strongest and the pity party yesterday is not who we are. who we are is who this president is and we are going to go forward with the mission, we are at war, make no mistake about that. the chinese unlearned a virus on the world that we are going to have to deal with but we can do that with the spirit of the country in a way which will make us stronger and more resilient. so every time you hear the pity party stuff, remember, to look into the future, see where we need to go and what we need to do and that's bringing manufacturing and supply chains home starting with our pharmaceutical supply chains and our medical supplies and equipment like masks and that's what we are doing. i've seen miracles here. i've seen a plant in cocomo, indiana where general motors stood up in 17 days and 3 days later we had ventilators going to hospitals in gary, indiana and chicago, i've seen honeywell in rhode island -- brian: i know. i hear you. that's the mind set we have to have but people across the country who are out of the job and can't get unemployment. you can't pretend and not -- peter: not pretending. we are hurting. brian: we are, how are we going to get out of it especially if you governor that won't open gym? peter: we have all of the supply chains we are doing. let's talk about china. how can i help you? brian: the president was on with us friday and between the trade deal with phase 1 done and all the evidence that's coming out that they hid the extent of this virus and really poisoned 185 countries, this was the president when asked about the future of trade deal and how far to go with the confrontation on the confrontational path we are on right now. let's listen. >> they've done a terrible thing. i don't believe it was done on purpose, but it was done through probably and confidence probably got out and they didn't know how to talk about it. the world health organization as you know, we pay them almost $500 million a year. i'm going to be making an announcement on that soon because they are like a puppet for china, they are a puppet for china. everything china is okay. they get 30 million from us and $450 million from us. for many years we have been paying for more than anybody else. brian: he said, i don't know what i am going to do about the trade deal. knowing how the economy is right now, is this time and might be to take them on in every way and tear up the trade deal or not? peter: it's well above my pay grade and decision-making process. that's a decision for the president. the only thing i can tell you, brian, is that what this crisis has done which was caused by china has heightened the need to bring manufacturing home and that's what i do, that's my lane here at the white house. those are bigger questions. i could tell you this, though, i strongly believe and i think the american people strongly believes that china inflicted trillions of dollars of damage on this country and there should be -- some form of compensatory damage. i'm surprised disneyland is opening while my own disneyland in anaheim where disneyland was born is still shut because to have the communist party. that makes me mad and so the point here is that china has inflicted trillions of dollars of damages on us and i think there should be some form of compensatory damage and there's discussion on capitol hill about that. ainsley: there's discussion about the masks, n-95 masks, the u.s. government turned down to manufacture in the early days of the pandemic is that true? peter: the article was based a company in texas, very difficult to communicate with and while they were having their own problems which were glorified in washington post article, we were going about the business of putting in place what are now billions, billions of additional mask capacity in this country through other companies and that began as early as early february as we begin to run full speed on this. the starting gun, ainsley, for the whole effort really was courageous decision by the president on january 30th to pull down the china flights. that was the signal to everybody in bureaucracy that go, and on february we watched the situation and publicly there was no need to alarm the public at that point because we weren't sure, we were doing everything possible to accelerate vaccine development, therapeutic development for things like remdesivir which has come online and sure as heck to get the production of things like n-95 masks, surgical masks and gowns and that's a long answer to your question, ainsley, it's a good question but that's not true. steve: all right, peter navarro joining us from the white house. sir, thank you very much. peter: great to be with you this morning. take care. ainsley: good to see you. steve: a dozen minutes before the top of the hour, one family is turning wooden pallets into patriotic works of art. look at that. the family is going to join us live but right now we will check in with sandra smith for a preview of coming attractions. hey, sandra. sandra: we have a busy 3 hours coming up. good morning, judge may be signing on dismissal of flynn's case, we are on it, byron york from the washington examiner, top of the hour coming up. live update from the white house as advisers to the president are now warning the unemployment rate could hit 20%. maria bartiromo from the fox business network will also be joining us for the opening bell this morning and new york's governor announces 3 children died from coronavirus-related mystery illness. dr. seigal in the house and will tell you what you need to know to keep your family safe. join us as we kick a brand new week live in the newsroom, we will see you at the top of the hour staying connected your way is easier than ever. you're just a tap away from personalized support on xfinity.com. get faster internet speeds with a click. order xfi pods to your home in a snap. or change your xfinity services with just a touch. all in one place. you're only seconds away from all of that on xfinity.com. faster than a call. easy as a tap. now that's simple, easy, awesome. ainsley: new jersey family is rallying together to help local small businesses and they are turning shipping pallets into patriotic works of art and raised more than $10,000. here joe and audrey and their two children finn and campbell, hey, y'all. >> thanks for having us. ainsley: the governor tweeted out congratulations to your family, thank you so much for what you're doing and then just took off, how did you come up with this idea? >> so we painted a pa lot last july 4th, my wife sold one in long island and we found one on the side of the road and painted the american flag and it was in our backyard and neighbor has pallets in the driveway and asked to take some of them and paint a couple of different designs and post on facebook and charge 50 bucks a pallet and as soon as we started posting, got spread like wild fire. we are up to 200 pallets now and over 10 grand in donations so it's been great. ainsley: audrey, can you believe that?
