we hope you had a great thanksgiving. i'll see you back here at 9:00 a.m. for america's news room. we'll see you then. have a good time with your family. "fox & friends" starts now. bye. hi everyone. good morning. today is friday, wbr id "wbr220" the 28th of november, 2014. i'm anna kooiman in for elisabeth hasselbeck. it is black friday and the dash for deals has already turned ugly. we see it every year. we are live with what to expect today as you head out. trouble inside the white house. the reported rift between president obama and joe biden in the aftermath of secretary hagel's resignation. biden didn't like it. right out of your favorite christmas cartoon. i don't know, charlie /b
brown. everyone in this pennsylvania town wanted this ugly tree out but this morning it's getting the charlie brown treatment. so nice to see. mornings are better with friends. you're watching "fox & friends." are you still sleeping in? because we're about to wake you up. good morning everyone on this wbr-id "wbr820" post-thanksgiving morning. sneak out of the house. random relatives scattered about on the floor. did you survive the family? the family was fantastic. it was the food. did you guys overeat? i'm still full. i did better this year than i have in previous years because we celebrated two weeks ago with my family home in north carolina and yesterday i just went out to eat. so i just kind of ate as much as you always eat when you overeat. it is starting to wear off, two weeks ago.
send in your photos this morning because it is black friday time. a lot of our viewers are posting on facebook that they are already out and about getting these deals. >> that video we showed in houston. i just realized it 4:00 in the morning in houston. >> they must have been up since last night. it is the biggest shopping day of the year. it's here. buyers are lining up for hot deals on black friday. wal-mart, macy's and more. >> it didn't take long for the fights own televisions and tablets and barbies. it got so bad in houston the police had to be called in. >> in michigan city, indiana, three people fought off an $88 subwoofer speaker. watch this.
>> don't mess with the guy in the chicago bears shirt. did that guy in the chicago bears shirt steal that out of a woman's cart. >> macy's is announcing a record breaking shopping day with more than 15,000 people showing up here at herald square store in new york city and wal-mart officials saying they saw 22 million customers throughout the day. 22 million. >> congratulations to new york city for being called the nice. it was indiana that was the crazy this year. usually it is new jersey and new york city where you see the crazies out at wawrlt. >> as black friday sales continue across the country, retailers are wondering is the biggest shopping day of the year losing its luster? >> doug luzader is inside a mall in arlington, virginia doing his christmas shopping early. what is the scene there? are people in the mall at 6:00 in the morning?
>> they are. it's picked up in the last hour or so. this mall has actually been open all night. the real question is going to be the deals. are they good enough to draw people in on a day like this. the national retail federation found that about 60 million americans will be shopping between today, saturday and sunday and about 72 million will wait to see if the deals are good enough to justify. internet retailers are offering -- [inaudible] >> doug -- we just lost doug's audio because so many shoppers interfered with the shopping transmission. >> this is all the people buying walkie talkies. >> are you going to be like this? are you going to map out where you're going to be going for flafd -- black
friday deals? are you going to stay in bed? is it worth it? >> if you're stuck in line or out and about, send them and we will post them so your relatives can see you while you're out in the aisles. go to "fox & friends" on facebook. >> what else is going on? >> sucking in your stomach this morning. >> i'm wearing spanx. >> we want to see those later. thanksgiving in one family in south carolina taking a frightening turn. people sent 15 feet down on top of concrete when the deck they were on collapsed. they were about to take a big picture together. 22 people were hospitalized. some of them senior citizens. >> the nypd arresting
ferguson protesters triefg to disrupt the thanksgiving parade. you can see some smashing the window of an office building. the hash tag stop the parade trending on twitter as protesters plan this new wave of chaos. a desperate search underway after an ohio state football player walks out of his apartment in the middle of the night and vanishes. he is a senior. he was last seen leaving his apartment around 2:00 a.m. on wednesday morning reportedly upset about something. his family says the 6 foot 3, 250 pound defensive lineman has a history of concussions and sometimes becomes disoriented. >> how is this method for frying turkey? >> clayton, those are right up your alley.
>> the best thing i've seen all day. >> it's a company based in maryland, if you want to buy this. it's a drone company, intelligent u.a.s. since frying turkeys can be very dangerous, this might be like you said, the safest way to fry your bird. >> my neighbor was talking about delivering pots and pans. why not turkeys too? >> i'm going to stay in and watch football. i want that drone to drop it in the hot oil. there could be trouble around the thanksgiving table last night inside the white house. in fact, maybe vice president biden wasn't invited for thanksgiving dinner. a new report from from "the washington times" pointed out that joe biden was furious at the way defense secretary chuck hagel was sort of forced out. not happy.
they have been long-term senate friends, many years together. apparently he was not happy about it. seems there are signs of him running in 2016 so distancing himself perhaps? >> we've got part of the article. it says the vice president let it be known last week that he was, quote, ticked out the way the president forced out chuck hagel. mr. hagel was pushed out in less than two years by a white house that is accused of micro managing national security policy. so is he legitimately very frustrated with president obama and the way that he's been having to follow orders? or is this more of a political move that vice president biden is feeling because he is a potential contender for the presidential election? it certainly is hurting hillary clinton's chances. >> i think this is going to be harder and harder to tell. in the early times of the obama presidency he's going to be in line with
everything obama is thinking. bull heading into 2016 with an -- but heading into 2016 with an unpopular president there you have to find some way to distance yourself and is that what this is all about. >> the president doesn't have to run for reelection so there are moves by the president, he is a lame duck president. moving people out of guantanamo bay is making headlines this morning. could this have been one of the reasons that chuck hagel was pushed snout that the white house was wanting according to reports chuck hagel to move faster on moving detainees out of guantanamo bay. he was being criticized for moving too slowly. >> congress requires a signature from the secretary of defense to say that these detainees do not pose any threat to america's national security, and hagel was reportedly going at a snail's pace, according to the white house. >> obviously president obama campaigned on this issue of closing it. six years in, hasn't happened. last week they released six
detainees, wanting to release more, but defense secretary hagel trying to be a little bit more cautious and possibly thinking as a defense secretary and obama not necessarily liking that. because it is slowing the process of one of his major tenets he ran on. >> is it in our best national security interest right now to release these guys into the battle field when we know recruitment efforts on isis has been so strong. do we want these guys on the field fighting us? recidivism has been so high. they have joined the fight against the united states after we release them. who is going to take over for chuck hagel? it's not been a good job to have, the defense secretary position. they seem to have been at loggerheads. robert gates' book was pretty damning of the president. leon panetta pretty damning of the president. >> do you want a job that you think i'm probably going to be forced out of
this and with some sense of shame possibly being forced out, not able to quit. >> unless you're a total "yes" man which is what he's looking for. >> a former secret service was on "happening now" yesterday and has this to say. >> i think that's what you saw with secretary hagel. i think when they positioned secretary hagel in the job, they thought they had a perpetual "yes" man. in some respect they did, but in some of the more important respects they did not. there is a memo out there with the contents happened to be leaked. i think it points out secretary hagel's position it does you no good to have a yes man that doesn't in fact say yes. i think he was clearly pushed out of the door. they are looking for more of a, i hate to say it, more of a jeh johnson type, department of homeland security secretary willing
to implement the president's policies no matter what. >> the white house is set to release another round of detainees from gitmo. can anyone understand that? >> he brings up jeh johnson. that might be a good choice. he has carried the water on immigration for the white house. he's gone to the border, echoed what the president has wanted him to say at the border a few months ago. you could be looking right there at the next secretary of defense. >> we'll have more on this throughout the morning. after violence breaks out in ferguson, how can the community rebuild? our next guest, the first black ad man on madison avenue, has unique ideas and they don't start with a hammer and nails. >> remember this pot-loving reporter that went out with a bang? >> and as for this job, well, [bleep] it. >> a big update this morning why her big plan might be going up in smoke.

decision not to indict police officer darren wilson in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old michael brown? our next guest has an interesting perspective as the first black ad man on madison avenue, spending 30 years in advertising. and he's also an award winning pianist. roy eaton joins us. thank you for being with us. with your unique perspective on being in advertising i'm sure you think what is your audience? what is your product? how do you target it on the audience. >> i think the first thing you have to resolve to do is to see things truthfully, to see things not just from the perspective that you as an individual have arrived at but rather from many different perspectives. and this is a matter of, well, willingness to do it.
we have to be honest about where did this protest come from. how has this protest expanded. it is not just ferguson. it is the entire country that has risen up in shock and anger at what happened. the opportunity -- this is not just a disaster. it is an opportunity. for one thing, i think it's an opportunity to look at our justice system and see where are there flaws in this justice system that causes us to see one population as being so negative. where is it in our criminal justice system that we have a flaw? and this flaw is evident in so many different ways. the simple fact that a grand jury was called rather than the indictment made directly by the
prosecuting attorney. and a grand jury, there's an undercurrent here that many people are not aware of. a grand jury is not a trial jury, and, therefore, the cross-examination and full examination of evidence is not possible. that is not the reason for grand jury. a full jury set up by a group of people set up to make critical judgment was not made. there are other aspects of our legal system brought into question. >> real self-examination and also examination of the justice system. roy, i apologize. we're out of time. but we thank you so much for coming in today and giving us your perspective. thanks a lot. 19 minutes after the hour. here's what's coming up on "fox & friends." a race against time. two young children trapped

we hope you had a great thanksgiving. i'll see you back here at 9:00 a.m. for america's news room. we'll see you then. have a good time with your family.
22 people were hospitalized. some of them senior citizens. >> the nypd arresting
ferguson protesters triefg to disrupt the thanksgiving parade. you can see some smashing the window of an office building. the hash tag stop the parade trending on twitter as protesters plan this new wave of chaos. a desperate search underway after an ohio state football player walks out of his apartment in the middle of the night and vanishes. he is a senior. he was last seen leaving his apartment around 2:00 a.m. on wednesday morning reportedly upset about something. his family says the 6 foot 3, 250 pound defensive lineman has a history of concussions and sometimes becomes disoriented. >> how is this method for frying turkey? >> clayton, those are right up your alley.
>> the best thing i've seen all day. >> it's a company based in maryland, if you want to buy this. it's a drone company, intelligent u.a.s. since frying turkeys can be very dangerous, this might be like you said, the safest way to fry your bird. >> my neighbor was talking about delivering pots and pans. why not turkeys too? >> i'm going to stay in and watch football. i want that drone to drop it in the hot oil. there could be trouble around the thanksgiving table last night inside the white house. in fact, maybe vice president biden wasn't invited for thanksgiving dinner. a new report from from "the washington times" pointed out that joe biden was furious at the way defense secretary chuck hagel was sort of forced out. not happy.
they have been long-term senate friends, many years together. apparently he was not happy about it. seems there are signs of him running in 2016 so distancing himself perhaps? >> we've got part of the article. it says the vice president let it be known last week that he was, quote, ticked out the way the president forced out chuck hagel. mr. hagel was pushed out in less than two years by a white house that is accused of micro managing national security policy. so is he legitimately very frustrated with president obama and the way that he's been having to follow orders? or is this more of a political move that vice president biden is feeling because he is a potential contender for the presidential election? it certainly is hurting hillary clinton's chances. >> i think this is going to be harder and harder to tell. in the early times of the obama presidency he's going to be in line with
everything obama is thinking. bull heading into 2016 with an -- but heading into 2016 with an unpopular president there you have to find some way to distance yourself and is that what this is all about. >> the president doesn't have to run for reelection so there are moves by the president, he is a lame duck president. moving people out of guantanamo bay is making headlines this morning. could this have been one of the reasons that chuck hagel was pushed snout that the white house was wanting according to reports chuck hagel to move faster on moving detainees out of guantanamo bay. he was being criticized for moving too slowly. >> congress requires a signature from the secretary of defense to say that these detainees do not pose any threat to america's national security, and hagel was reportedly going at a snail's pace, according to the white house. >> obviously president obama campaigned on this issue of closing it. six years in, hasn't happened. last week they released six
detainees, wanting to release more, but defense secretary hagel trying to be a little bit more cautious and possibly thinking as a defense secretary and obama not necessarily liking that. because it is slowing the process of one of his major tenets he ran on. >> is it in our best national security interest right now to release these guys into the battle field when we know recruitment efforts on isis has been so strong. do we want these guys on the field fighting us? recidivism has been so high. they have joined the fight against the united states after we release them. who is going to take over for chuck hagel? it's not been a good job to have, the defense secretary position. they seem to have been at loggerheads. robert gates' book was pretty damning of the president. leon panetta pretty damning of the president. >> do you want a job that you think i'm probably going to be forced out of
this and with some sense of shame possibly being forced out, not able to quit. >> unless you're a total "yes" man which is what he's looking for. >> a former secret service was on "happening now" yesterday and has this to say. >> i think that's what you saw with secretary hagel. i think when they positioned secretary hagel in the job, they thought they had a perpetual "yes" man. in some respect they did, but in some of the more important respects they did not. there is a memo out there with the contents happened to be leaked. i think it points out secretary hagel's position it does you no good to have a yes man that doesn't in fact say yes. i think he was clearly pushed out of the door. they are looking for more of a, i hate to say it, more of a jeh johnson type, department of homeland security secretary willing
to implement the president's policies no matter what. >> the white house is set to release another round of detainees from gitmo. can anyone understand that? >> he brings up jeh johnson. that might be a good choice. he has carried the water on immigration for the white house. he's gone to the border, echoed what the president has wanted him to say at the border a few months ago. you could be looking right there at the next secretary of defense. >> we'll have more on this throughout the morning. after violence breaks out in ferguson, how can the community rebuild? our next guest, the first black ad man on madison avenue, has unique ideas and they don't start with a hammer and nails. >> remember this pot-loving reporter that went out with a bang? >> and as for this job, well, [bleep] it. >> a big update this morning why her big plan might be going up in smoke.

hello... i'm an idaho potato farmer and our big idaho potato truck is still missing. so my buddy here is going to help me find it. here we go. woo who, woah, woah, woah. it's out there somewhere spreading the word about america's favorite potatoes: heart healthy idaho potatoes and the american heart association's go red for women campaign. if you see it i hope you'll let us know. always look for the grown in idaho seal. good morning everyone. thanks for being with us. after nearly a week of protests it looks like things might be quieting done in ferguson, missouri. how can the community continue to recover following the grand jury
decision not to indict police officer darren wilson in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old michael brown? our next guest has an interesting perspective as the first black ad man on madison avenue, spending 30 years in advertising. and he's also an award winning pianist. roy eaton joins us. thank you for being with us. with your unique perspective on being in advertising i'm sure you think what is your audience? what is your product? how do you target it on the audience. >> i think the first thing you have to resolve to do is to see things truthfully, to see things not just from the perspective that you as an individual have arrived at but rather from many different perspectives. and this is a matter of, well, willingness to do it.
we have to be honest about where did this protest come from. how has this protest expanded. it is not just ferguson. it is the entire country that has risen up in shock and anger at what happened. the opportunity -- this is not just a disaster. it is an opportunity. for one thing, i think it's an opportunity to look at our justice system and see where are there flaws in this justice system that causes us to see one population as being so negative. where is it in our criminal justice system that we have a flaw? and this flaw is evident in so many different ways. the simple fact that a grand jury was called rather than the indictment made directly by the
prosecuting attorney. and a grand jury, there's an undercurrent here that many people are not aware of. a grand jury is not a trial jury, and, therefore, the cross-examination and full examination of evidence is not possible. that is not the reason for grand jury. a full jury set up by a group of people set up to make critical judgment was not made. there are other aspects of our legal system brought into question. >> real self-examination and also examination of the justice system. roy, i apologize. we're out of time. but we thank you so much for coming in today and giving us your perspective. thanks a lot. 19 minutes after the hour. here's what's coming up on "fox & friends." a race against time. two young children trapped

vitamin a left in it. >> vitamin a. most places that sell skim milk with vitamin a in it, they add the vitamin a back in it as a fortified product; right? >> that is correct, they do add the vitamin a back in it. >> you guys have been doing this for 25 years without adding artificial or additives in it, just selling your skim milk. now suddenly the florida state regulations are wanting you to change your naming to this. tell us about how this happened. >> we were selling our milk for three years. we just started bottling our milk five years ago. before that we were part of a dairy cooperative. we had everything approved by the department of agriculture with the labeling. we were selling our skim milk and our customers were very happy. they couldn't believe it was skim milk. then all of a sudden the state comes in and says you
may no longer sell your skim milk unless you put the vitamin a in it which is against our policy. we don't want to put any kind of additives in our milk. we want it to be just plain natural milk. >> you want a natural product. they said you could sell it but then you have to change the naming of it to something that gives all indications that it sounds artificial; is that right? >> yes, sir, that is correct. i feel like putting nongrade a, all-natural vitamins removed would sort of confuse our customer and the base we're targeting are people concerned about how the food is processed, where the food comes from, and it is very important to us to provide the best milk possible. for us, that's no vitamins added. >> of course. so they want you to call it a milk product. a nongrade a milk product. if i hear milk product i'm thinking it is not really a

criticisms now. there are many criticisms of the program. number one, that law enforcement should be only ones that have access to the guns. not teachers and schools. they should be focusing on teaching. not worrying about firearms training. what do you say to those critics about that? >> well, we have a layered approach in something -- we have armed and uniformed school security officers from the start of the day to the end of the day, in all seven buildings. in addition to that, we have a back up to the security officers with the first responder team members. i would say to the critics that when parents send their kids to school not only to be educated, they also send them to school to be safe. they want their kids to return home at the end of the day safe. so we feel both educating and being safe are very important for schools today. >> money also a big issue, of course. some say we shouldn't be spending money on this. we should pay more for teachers salaries. already teachers are squeezed and have to bring in their own school supplies to teach. what do you say to the money
criticism? >> well, the cost for implementing the school security measures does not take away from the money that is used for salaries. so we don't feel that the two are related because of the -- we feel the cost is certainly justified in terms of insuring a student's safety. >> what has been the response from parents about this program? >> the parents by and large in our community have been quite supportive. especially the school security officers in all seven buildings. that one major right there is probably the most popular of the layered approach we have taken. >> we talk about it being a success. can you point to any time you've seen this as a deterrent to a potential problem in your school over the past two years? >> we feel just by having signs posted outside the school warning visitors, for example, that we do have an armed presence in the buildings, we think that that in and of itself is a deterrent. we've had the school security
officers that have been present during some difficult parent-teacher conference, things of this nature. so we feel just the different benefit that they have by being in the buildings serve as a deterrent and even though we have not had to actually use the school security officers, first responder team, we think just having the presence and having the community, that people know they're there is a deterrent in and of itself. >> john, we appreciate you joining us this morning postthanksgiving. have a great weekend and thanks for what you're doing in ohio. we appreciate it. >> thank you very much. coming up here, race against time. two young children trapped under all that snow and a group of people desperately trying to dig them out. the incredible ending straight ahead. and during yesterday's -- turn yesterday's turkey into tonight's meal. how to get a second day out of your thanksgiving leftovers without just the boring way. we have some great ideas coming up. ♪ ♪ fact.
