that. >> congratulations to her and her red solo cup. >> i think toby keith gets an assist on that. >> just made a nickel. >> four minutes past the top of the hour, secretary of state john kerry now in paris to meet with foreign officials and discuss an international plan to defeat the savage militants isis. peter doocy in washington with the latest details. >> reporter: good morning. in paris there are representatives from 26 different nations sitting down to pledge different levels of support for the coalition fight against isis. some, like britain, are offering help with logistics and intelligence. others, who the administration is so far declining to list, are reportedly pitching in with ground troops. remember a few days ago the secretary of state said it was wrong to say the united states is at war with isis. but now as he tries to sell
americans' allies on a strategy, he's changing his tune a little bit. >> i think that's the wrong terminology. what we are doing is engaging in a very significant counterterrorism operation. we're at war with al qaeda and its affiliates. in the same context, if you want to use it, yes, we're at war with isil in that sense. but i think it's a waste of time to focus on that. >> so what is the american strategy for defeating isis? well, a senior state department official traveling this week with secretary kerry abroad says that cutting off funding for isis and preventing foreign fighters from joining isis will be key, as is supporting the iraqi military and responding to the humanitarian crisis these militants have created. >> i think we've been pretty clear on this and we'll continue to be clear about what exactly we're going to do and how we're going to do it and the disciplined fashion we'll carry it out to ensure we degrade and ultimately
destroy this menacing organization called isil. >> retired marine general john allen has been asked by the administration to coordinate all the international support for the fight against isis. general allen was once the top u.s. commander in afghanistan. he's worked a lot with the leaders that we are now asking for help in previous fights. >> the latest is a third westerner beheaded. 44-year-old david haynes worked for 15 years for a number of relief organizations. he's from the united kingdom. david cameron over the weekend came out and said isis are not muslims. they are monsters. meanwhile the president of the united states went golfing once again with marvin and his gang out to a joint base andrews. somebody tweeted out with the going gets tough, obama goes golfing. >> some arguing the biggest swing the president is taking right now happens to be on the golf course and not against isis.
they seem to be at a war of words against themselves. are would he at war? are we not? boots on the ground equals war? planes in the sky equals war? where are we? 60% of americans polled say they're not sure. they are uncertain as to whether the president has a strategy and whether it will work. maybe the president should listen to some of the experts saying we need boots on the ground. >> it's going to take an army to beat an army and this idea we'll never have boots on the ground to beatem i. >> we cannot do this without having some forces on the ground that can help our air campaign. you have to have that. >> the only way we can think about destroying isis in this particular strategy is the forces on the ground will have to do the destroying. >> in terms of surveillance, intelligence, reconnaissance, advice, tactical air control parties, look, i'm betting we're up close to 5,000 by the end of the year.
>> the air stuff we've been doing so far have been pinpricks. we need a large air campaign against these guys and get a ground force in there as quickly as possible. >> we've got about 158 airstrikes already. it's over the course of about three and a half weeks. we're usually doing that in two or three days when we're serious about a campaign. i understand we've got to get surveillance, in order to help. i understand it takes time to get a coalition. a lot of people are saying where's the urgency? in the big picture i think it is important to point out dennis mcdonough and john kerry said they got messages from other nations for ground troops and both said we told them we don't need it right now. they got pledges from other arab to train and actually fight, i thought that would be bells and whistles good; we're making progress. >> it wasn't really a real offer, unfortunately. >> i would say we've gotten offers and we're examining them. >> as we move from strairks
strairks -- airstrikes to alleged strikes, the games in the nfl were huge. penalty to outsidelines seem to be far more serious and talked about than any of the ones that occur unsealed. ray rice said to appeal his suspension for knocking out his fiancee. >> he went to a game over the weekend, on the sidelines with his wife. then the shocking news about adrian peterson, the running back from the minnesota minnesota viking who in may was indicted on child abuse charges. immediately the vikings pulled him off the field which led to a huge debate on sunday on just about every channel prior to the football games about raising your kids and what is right and what is not right. let's listen first to charles barkley. >> i'm from the south. whipping is, we do that all the time. every black parent in the south is going to be in

forces. while we know the sacrifices our troops make to keep us safe little is known about the everyday struggles their partners and children face in their absence. andrea ricketts has been married to her husband for 23 years. she writes in a memoir no man's war. the confessions of an infantry wife and she joins us this morning. thank you for being with us. >> thank you. >> in honest account, what do you believe the average american out this is missing in terms of understanding military spouses? spoil i i -- >> i wanted to write a book that created a real, gritty, genuine, true, full picture of what our lives are like, the daily life, the tragedies we go through, how we cope with them, how we survive as a culture together, the sister hoods, the bonds. >> and really hard times. you speak about the time when your spouse in
particular, and others, return home working on that relationship can be incredibly difficult? >> yeah. going back and forth is really hard. and when you have kids, trying to parent and readjust to each other's parenting styles and just sharing your bed with someone when you're used to something as simple as that, when you're used to like sleeping in the middle of the bed. learning to, you know, buy the foods that they like again. you really -- it's like going from being, living on your own to, you know, sharing with another person. it's hard to go back and forth. >> when you look at cuts to the military, the v.a. scandals, and you see the future ahead of you as we are now entering into another war with isis, what does that mean in the mind of a military spouse? what do you hear? >> you know, professional military are, we're very much into we do what we're
told. we follow orders and we don't really get too involved in the political debates. i know that typically after a war, we draw down. that's just historically what happens. so i think that we have been in the middle of that and we are drawing down to be the smallest military that we've ever been. only 2% of americans serve. only 2 pk. so that means 98% of the population has no idea about this professional military culture and their families. >> i hear you saying we. there are critics out there who say there is no we. this is about your spouse. this is about the situation, your husband fighting the war defending our country. why are you so attached? >> the army does really indoctrine nates family members and spouses into how intremendous -- how
integral we are to the success of the mission. my husband says there's two fights. the way we take care of the fight in the rear -- if the soldiers forward can focus on the mission knowing their families are taken care of and their families are okay, then they'll win. >> a lot of pressure on military families. >> it is a lot of pressure but it keeps us busy, keeps us grounded, it keeps us floating together. i write about that. i write about how important those bonds are and how that's ultimately what lets us survive is each other. >> you write about your own struggles there, a heart scare, an attack that you face. a truly honest and gritty account. if given the choice again to be a military spouse, would you do it again? >> i couldn't even almost let you finish that sentence. i wouldn't even hesitate. i've loved every single minute of every day. even the things that felt like we were being, you know, not given what we

quite a story for you. 7 year old girl saves her entire family three generations from a house fire and wait until you hear how she learned what to do. here to share her incredible story is that 7-year-old, sage, and her mom, amy. they join us this morning from raleigh, north carolina. good morning to you. >> good morning. >> good morning. >> now, i tell you what, amy, let's start with tell us what was going on at your house last thursday about 6:30. >> there was a pot of grease on the stove and we didn't realize that it was on as high as it was
and we had -- i had gone back to the bedroom and my mom had gone back to the bedroom and sage was on the computer. we have a new fire alarm system. sometimes it would go off intermittently. when it went off, i really didn't pay any mind. i thought maybe it was just a false alarm. and about two minutes later, sage comes running in, mama, mama, it's real fire! by the time we got out with my mom, the whole house was engulfed in smoke. if it would have been a minute later, we would have been trapped and sage would have been trapped. we don't have a become door. >> sage, did you hear the alarm? did you go in and see the fire with your own two eyes? >> well, i was in the living room and the kitchen didn't have a door. so the alarm went actually off and i just went back from the chair and there was a fire behind the pot and i went to go tell my mom to get out and go tell the neighbor and call 911.
>> absolutely. and that's what happened. the good news is you knew exactly, sage, what to do, because you learned how to do that the day before in school, didn't you? >> yeah. >> tell me what they taught you. >> we had a fire drill at school and they told us that we needed to go back from the house and call 911. >> that was good advice because your whole family was able to get out and then amy, as i understand, you were able to go back later that night and get some things back from -- personal belongings, things that you treasured. >> we were able to go in just to pick up a few things because they said that once the fire was out, we could go back the next day. well, we didn't know it, but the house completely caught on fire and burned down to the ground. >> you got to fix your gizmo in your ear there. >> there were hot spots underneath and on top and it
just burned completely up. >> oh, boy. so what are you going to do? >> right now my parents are staying at a motel and we're staying with sage's father and we're thinking about rebuilding. we're not sure right now. everything is kind of up in the air. it's still so fresh. we were able to get out with a few clothes on our back and that was about it. >> but you are all alive and that's the key. >> yes. >> and sage, that's why you're a hero, aren't you? >> yeah, i am a hero. it's good to be a hero. >> it is good to be a hero that saves her whole family. all right. sage and amy, we thank you very much for joining us from raleigh. good luck rebuilding. that's heart breaker. >> thank you. >> good luck to you. >> she knew exactly what to do because she learned it in school the day before. coming up, isis beheads northern westerner and where does president obama go?

context, if you want to use it, yes, we're at war with isil in that sense. but i think it's a waste of time to focus on that. >> what's the problem with getting the message clear? >> well, the semantics are wrong, the salesmanship is wrong. he's unable to get other countries to follow us, as you know. we're sort of all by our self and nobody wants to join us and they don't want to give us their soldiers, probably their soldiers aren't so great either in that part of the world. it's a disaster. we have to send our great troops in and we can't get anybody that's really much more effective than we are. we can't get them to fight because they're afraid. and they have no confidence in our country. they probably think that we'll be gone at the wrong time, like -- the other thing is we signal everything. we say we're going in next week. you might as well give the exact time. these guys spread out and we can't do the kind of damage that we could do. you read about the great general douglas macarthur or general
patton and the way they reacted. they didn't broadcast. everything we do, it's like we're going in next week and we're not sending troops and we're not this and we're not that. we're telling them every single thing that we're doing. i guess for political reasons because he wants to be tough or he wants to be not tough. i don't think anybody knows what he wants to be. i don't think he knows what he wants to be. so to send all these signals out and to tell the enemy exactly what we're doing. but again, as i say, in the meantime, lots of other places in the world are doing lots of bad things and getting ready to do lots of bad things to this country and we've totally forgotten that. >> unfortunately, you're right. one thing the president is and has been is tone deaf. after nick foley was beheaded and his parents were doing a press conference, the president of the united states went golfing. then this weekend with the news that this british aid worker,
mark haynes, also was beheaded, the president once again went golfing at base andrews. the night the president had his big speech, you tweeted out what is being referred to as the tweet of the year. i know it's gotten 23,000 retweets. you tweeted, if obama resigns from office now, thereby doing a great service to the country, i will give him free lifetime golf at any one of my courses. >> i did tweet that and i did it sarcastically or jokingly and, you know, it certainly has had a tremendous impact. it's what every major news show hit a nerve. it's interesting that if you're the president of the united states, such a great honor. it's such an important place and such an important thing to be. you would really think he's going to be there for another two years, you would think he'd never want to leave the white house. you would think he would want to be there. i love golf more than anybody and it's an amazing game, but
you'd think if you're the president for another two years, you have a chance to do something great. why would you be out vacationing? it's not just golf. he's always vacationing. by the way, they cost us 40, 50, $60 million every time he travels with the big planes and entourage and everything else. if you're president to the united states, you got another two years ago, you should be working your ass off and do it right. you shouldn't be taking vacations. he's going to be taking a vacation for the rest of his life. do it right. don't leave the white house or lead the white house on a mission not to play golf. >> on another note, one of the many things you did is you used to own a football team you and might even be the future owner of the buffalo bills. who knows? but there is the nfl is going through dire straits like i've never seen before, all happening off the field. adrian peterson, child abuse. ray rice, domestic abuse. so over the weekend, people were talking about parenting and
trying to put the adrian peterson thing in perspective. i want to you hear charles barkley and chris carter and then weigh in. >> i'm from the south. whipping, we do that all the time. every black parent in the south is going to be in jail under those circumstances. i think we have to be careful letting people -- how they dictate how they treat their children. >> doesn't matter where you're from. right is right and wrong is wrong. >> well, i don't believe that because, listen, we spank kids in the south. i think the question about adrian peterson go overboard? listen, jim, we all grow up in different environments. every black parent in my neighborhood in the south would be in trouble or in jail under those circumstances. >> a 21st century. my mom was wrong. she did the best she could, but she was wrong about some of that stuff she taught me! and i promised my kids, i won't teach that mess to them! you can't be the kid to make them do what they want to do!

found on the streets of new york city amid the rubble of the world trade center 13 years ago. it touched off a 13-yearlong search by one woman who wanted to locate the couple in the picture. today 13 years later, her search has come to an end. elizabeth stringer keith found that wedding party thanks to fred, who is in the picture and contacted her just last week. this morning they're meeting for the very first time face-to-face. good morning to both of you. >> good morning. >> you've been looking at that picture. that's the blond guy in the background. >> he's the guy. yep. >> there he is. you just told me in the green room that one of the things you were drawn to about the picture was fred. >> yes. fred looks like and reminds me of one of my really good friends from college and i've actually never told this story to anyone. i did tell it to him and a couple of my other friends know. but my friend, kevin, i think fred looks a lot like. so i think i've said before that
people in the photo look very familiar to me and i think that's why. >> here in new york city after 9-11, there were thousands of images, photographs from family members who posted them all over the city looking for people who were never found. when a friend gave that you picture because she's moving to california and said, take care of this, do something with it, you looked at it for years and probably figured that all those people were dead. >> i really resisted trying to put a story to it, but it certainly crossed my mind. other possibilities that crossed my mind were someone visiting might have dropped it or it came from a neighboring office where the windows blew out. but no matter what the story was, i wanted to get it back because it's a beautiful photo with people who are laughing and enjoying themselves and there is love and happiness. it deserved to be returned no matter what the story was. >> so you looked at that picture for 13 years. over the last five years or so you've been going on social media. >> that's right.
>> then on thursday night, you posted it to twitter. >> i did. >> about 11:30 at night, things blew up. fred, that's with you entered the story. >> that's right. on friday afternoon, i received a text message from a colleague of mine, i used to work with in the world trade center, jason, and he said, fred, you really got to check out this story. so i opened up the story, couldn't believe it. i saw it there. the picture. >> that's me! >> wow. and then i immediately contacted elizabeth. i sent her a tweet and went on linkedin and typed her my phone number. >> the last time you saw that picture was when? >> it was one of many that i had tacked up in my office in the world trade center. i had forgotten about a lot of things there and -- it had been 2001. >> you probably thought it burned up like everything else. >> yep. it was prosecute a great wedding in march of 2001, six months earlier in aspen with my friends from college.
yeah, i thought it was gone. predigital, so when it's gone, it's gone. >> the couple that just got married, where are they? >> they're living in california, happily married. >> that's great. >> they're doing great. >> all the people in that picture are alive. >> i know. it's amazing. you couldn't have made up a better ending. >> it seems like it's a movie. >> yes. >> where you looked at it for 13 years and then you discover via a text that they're all alive. and in that book is -- >> the first edition, ernest hemmingway book, i give you this. >> the story isn't about the picture or me or 9-11, the story is about 9-12 because on 9-12 was the best of humanity. on 9-11 we had the worst of humanity. 9-12 was the best of humanity. and she's been living 9-12 for 13 years and her mystery was solved on 9-12 a few days ago.

a crazed man claiming to be a c.i.a. officer tries to hijack a british train. he got into the driver's cabin and started yelling that he was ordered to take over that train as part of his c.i.a. duties. he moved that train 50 yards down the track before it finally came to a grinding halt. luckily no one was on board. british police were called in to the notingham station, three hours north of london where he was questioned. that man in his mid 30s, been returned to his parents. for decades, researchers have said salt is one of the main causes of heart disease. but now a new study reveals a sweeter culprit might be to blame. sugar. it turns out higher sugar levels affect the key area of the brain that causes our blood pressure to rise. sugar could also cause our bodies to produce more insulin, a hormone that speeds up our heart rate. and two sisters in pennsylvania just made their family a little larger. richard and emily are both new moms and they gave birth 22 hours apart.

surge, very dangerous with this hurricane. over the next several days, we do expect it to continue to weaken, so that is welcome news. the issue is still going to be very heavy rain that will impact that entire region and eventually by wednesday, thursday, we could be seeing some of that moisture moving into parts of the southwestern united states. remember last week across southern california and parts of arizona, we picked up significant flash flooding. so that will be something to watch out for come later this week. otherwise high temperatures staying below average across the northern plains and also into the northeast. right now we're very chilly in the northeast. many areas waking up to temperatures in the 40s and 50s. getting like fall. the high in new york city forecast to be 72. much better across parts of the gulf coast. you're looking at temperatures there in the 80s and 90s. let's head back inside. >> thank you ver much. well, it was a horrific accident, to say the least. hall of famer golfer greg norman rushed to the hospital after sawing through his hand with a chain saw.
but luckily for everyone, he has not lost his sense of humor. he joins us on the phone now to share his story of accident and now recovery. good morning, mr. norman. >> good morning, everybody. how are you? >> we're doing okay. we understand over the weekend you were there at your property in jupiter island, florida. you were cutting down tom seed grapes with your chain saw. what happened? >> well, what happened was basically i had a premonition as i was getting my chain saw ready, my oil and my fuel and i was putt in my golf cart and i said something bad is going to happen of the i plowed through and i said let's go down there and take our time. i had four branches left and there was one branch about chest high and i went to cut it and it was falling straight down. i went to grab it and as i was pulling the chain saw with my right hand and took my finger off the trigger, the weight of
the branch was so heavy t went down on top of the blade. >> the branch pushed your arm onto the chain saw. >> right. as i looked down, i felt it just grind into my arm, and i went oh, this is not going to be good. i looked down and said, this is -- i get on the phone and call my wife and i said, you better get down here with a towel and a tourniquet as soon as you can. she said what's wrong? i said no problem. just get down here. then i called my son. i said get here and take me to the hospital. i called and said i'm going to be in the. r. in 15 minutes. by the time my wife got there, i wouldn't let her see it, i covered it up the best as i could. and she wrapped the towel around it and i said as tight as you can tie a tourniquet, you pull as hard as you possibly can. >> how close did you get to -- once she was able to turn that tourniquet tight enough and you get to the hospital, what did
the doctor tell you? how close did you get to losing your hand? >> he said, first of all, i was extremely lucky 'cause the chain saw was falling down and not at high speed. number two, i missed my tendon in my main artery by micro millimeters. very, very lucky with that. i was moving my fingers okay. making sure everything is all right. he said we got to get knew the o.r. and that was it. an hour later i came out and you know what? what's the old saying? stuff happens? >> sure. everyone felt thankful to see with you a thumbs up with your new accessory that you posted showing your humor was not injured at all. but what's the prognosis moving forward? what's your recovery going to be like? >> we'll see when we get the bandages off and stuff. i can move my fingers. i'm starting to exercise pretty
soon. so i can grip my fingers like a golf grip. >> will you be able to play golf? >> i know one thing, steve, i'll be able to play tennis and whip your butt 'cause i'm right-handed. >> that's good. >> i have just a little advice for you for next time, mr. norman. hire somebody in the business to do that. >> will you do it again? >> i heard you were my neighbor and i figure you and i will have a chain saw party. >> man oh, man. actually i know a guy who can come and cut the stuff down. >> there you go. >> and greg, at some point we like to see, if people want to support greg norman, go out and buy your wine and clothes, right? >> yes indeed. thank you very much. like that promotion. >> after your weekend, you could probably use a little of both. >> thumbs up right back. >> and you are at home now, right? >> no. i asked the doctor if i could

vegetarian chili, cornbread, grilled cheese sandwich, nachos, potatoes with fixings, chilled pears, fresh fought, vegetable dippers. so what's so bad about that, critics would say? >> our schools are doing a really fantastic job of meating the nutritional needs and educational needs of our kids. what we have here is a meatless monday campaign that's really an agenda driven campaign. people behind this don't want to you eat meat not just one day a week, but seven days a week. and obesity and unhealthy life styles are caused because of inactivity and because of not having a balanced diet. it's sending the wrong message to our kids. look, this is not about meat. it's about hunger and we need to educate our kids the right way and not have agenda driven campaigns. >> you say that meatless mondays are brainwashing? >> clearly it is because we know that a balanced diet is what children need. and the people that are really
pushing this are saying that having meatless monday options is somehow a healthier option menu and that it's better for the environment. this all stems from anti-animal agriculturalists who are trying to blame animals for some of our environmental problems. if they really were concerned about this, they'd be promoting a walk to school wednesday. >> interesting point there. is there not choice here for parents? why should our children be subjected to such propaganda? >> well, that's the clear emphasis here. we want kids to be able to choose. if they want to give kids a vegetarian option, then they should do that. but they shouldn't castigate one food category and promote it as being healthier. we have an obesity crisis in our nation right now. our nation is just captivated by

day. there is another isis beheading. this fellow, david haynes, 44 years old. he was a british aid worker much like when jim foley was beheaded and mr. sotloff after that, that british accented guy was the executioner effectively. the reaction in washington? i know that 10 downing street was immediate. cameron says isis are not muslims, they are monsters. >> yeah. the prime minister of great britain, david cameron, had convened an emergency meeting, said what are we going to do about this? they have not, however, signed on for air strikes against isis yet. and it's interesting to watch. part of that may be this vote for scotland and independence on thursday that has to do with they're worried about sending signals about signing on to a war and that affects somehow the
nationalists in scotland. so there is a bit of internal politics perhaps about the public relations there. but he's definitely speaking out against isis. >> i hope that's the reason because he gives these very clear and concise remarks a couple weeks ago. he sounds like he's focused and then says, don't count on me for anything militarily. so it's just mixed messages. maybe it changed after the beheading of this citizen and another british citizen has been teased at the end of that could be next. i want to get your take on the differences between john kerry thursday and john kerry over the weekend when asked about this operation and the word war. >> i think it's the wrong terminology. what we are doing is engaging in a very significant counterterrorism operation. >> we're at war with al-qaeda and its affiliates. we're at war with isil in that sense. i think it's a waste of time to focus on that. >> he changed the wording, the
messaging, the name, but someone else changed it for him. he didn't have an opportunity to correct it himself. he was playing damage control overt weekend. what's your take? >> secretary kerry said it, national security advisor susan rice was reluctant to use the word war and said expanded counterterrorism operation. i think they saw some pushback from those terms. media covered that and said what's the deal, the terms being used? then the next day, the white house and pentagon and state department came this unified answer that if we're at war with al-qaeda, we're at war with isis. bottom line is what the words are matters to people who are going to be doing this and war with isis seems like it makes sense. >> a lot of the war terminology seems to depend on how many boots will or not be on the ground in terms of that definition lead to go mass confusion with the american people and confidence tanking
when it comes to the white house and how they're going to handle this. the chief of staff handled this question. he said we've been pretty clear, so he thinks, about the boots. >> is there a single country in this coalition so far that has pledged combat troops on the ground in syria? >> you will hear from secretary kerry on this over the coming days and what he has said is that others have suggested that they're willing to do that, but we're not looking for that right now. we're looking for -- >> wait a minute, why snot? >> we're trying to put together the specifics of what we expect from each of the members. >> you know what that looks like? it looks like maybe they're going out there and they're saying, will you sign up with us? so far nobody signed up because otherwise you would have thought that would have been a golden opportunity, bret baier, for him to say, yep, we've got a number of countries and either list them or give a number, but nothing. >> yeah. and they're touting arab countries signing on. but again, how many are signing on for actual action on the
ground? it's not going to be a lot. they're saying the free syrian army will be the boots on the ground. the peshmerga will be the boots on the ground. that will require some organization. there will have to be some command and control over all of these folks. if you think that there won't be u.s. boots on the ground, i think we're mistaken. >> there already are. >> there are, but there will be more and there will be -- there are probably significant numbers in syria already that we don't know about. listen, it's going to have to take some command and control and it's not going to be the free syrian army that's doing it. >> yeah. the doctors and pharmacists and dentists that the president disparaged in august, now counting on in september, though he was clear over the weekend that the experts agree, you can't win a war from above. listen. >> it's going to take an army to beat an army and this idea will never have any boots on the ground to defeat them in syria is fantasy. >> we can not do this without
having some forces on the ground that can help our air campaign. you have to have it. >> the only way we can think about destroying isis in this particular strategy is that the forces on the ground will have to do the destroying. >> in terms of intelligence surveillance reconnaissance, logistic, advice, command and control assistance, tactical air control parties, look, i'm betting we're up close to 5,000 by the end of the year. >> the air stuff we've been doing so far have been pin pricks. we need a large air campaign against these guys and we need to get a ground force in there as quickly as possible! >> pretty clear. >> yeah. there are a lot of people, publicly privately, who say you have to have some kind of coordination on the ground. what the definition of combat boots on the ground for this administration is, i think we're talking about the rhetoric here, the semantics. but it will happen if it's going to be significant. >> bret, by your hoe show -- show tonight, we'll find out

british prime minister david cameron talking tough on terror yesterday after a video was released by isis showing the beheading of a british aid worker named david haynes. does that mean the united kingdom will be teaming up with the united states to take out isis? let's talk to the director of margaret thatcher's foundation, nile gardner. good morning to you. >> good morning. >> from the very beginning, david cameron has been very clear. in fact, when our president has sent out some micked messages, david cameron was resolute that they were going to go ahead and
fight isis and take him out. so why haven't the united kingdom signed on yet? >> that's a very good question. my sense is that britain is certainly going to join military action against isis and already the raf, the british air force, preparing a number of tornado jets for possible participation air strikes. reports in london indicate that british special forces are already on the ground in iraq hunting for the killers of the british aid worker who was murdered over the weekend. so i think britain is preparing for military action, although the prime minister is at a very difficult situation with the scottish referendum taking place on thursday. so downing street has delayed any clear decision to join a military action 'til after the scottish referendum and a key reason for that is the scottish voters tend to be left wing.
they tend to be anti-interventionist. therefore, i think that the british government is wary or afraid of upsetting scotland ahead of the referendum vote because if cameron loses that vote, he may lose his own job as well. >> it's curious because it looks like domestic politics are playing into what our president and prime minister are doing. the president has pretty much telegraphed he's not going to do anything about immigration reform until after the election here. now you're telling us that david cameron, who is our best ally, probably won't step up to the plate until friday after things blow over in scotland. >> yeah. i think unfortunately that is the situation, although behind the scenes, there is no doubt about it. the british government is preparing for military action. the public mood in britain is extremely angry. there are a growing calls for these jihaddists to be absolutely destroyed following this latest atrocity.
and britain will play a very important role in any military action. if britain doesn't join the coalition to take on isis, then i think that many other countries are not going to follow. so britain plays an extremely important role and it's vital that the united states and great britain stand together shoulder to shoulder in fighting against isis and defeating this monstrously evil terrorist organization. >> so you detailed earlier that it sounds like great britain is readying some jets for the air strikes and they do have some special forces on the ground in syria, but as for an expanded boots on the ground, our president has been very clear, no. would that be the same for great britain as well? united kingdom? >> i think it's unlikely you're going to see british troops in large numbers going into iraq or indeed syria. and i think you are going to see
