"fox & friends" begins right now. >> it's "fox & friends". >> there is one day a year where you say i wear a snuggy to work, today would be the day. it is similar. it is cozy. it is like a bath robe. >>clayton: in nome, it is freezing, up there, they cannot get heating fuel. a writer was walking through in a full eskimo outfit. >>dave: we start with the heat of politics down there in south carolina. we are a week out from the south carolina primary and a new direction, now, for newt gingrich. he is calling on all of the inaccurate ads run by the super pac's to be taken off the air to have the false points taken out. perhaps is because he was underfire from all angles on his bain attack. >>clayton: a big problem is the super pac put up a 28 meant film about bain capital and new there have been quite a few people coming out from the film that said i was inaccurately represented and i didn't actually loss my job. and i was promoted when bain came in to our town and i was only laid off later when another company took over so i should be thanking mitt romney for actually giving me a promotion. >>alisyn: newt gingrich is asking them to take out the inaccuracies, at least four major ones and he is asking them to reed it out but not backing down from attacks or criticism from mitt romney's time at bain and wants mitt romney to explain better what he did there. >> the idea that a candidate can make a claim and yell foul the meant you ask him to prove it is just silly. if he can't stand up today and defend his claim how is he going to stand up to obama in the fall? michael to the governor is simple: the only place he worked was bain. he claims he created 100,000 jobs. release the records. show us the facts. you cannot run for president, have half your campaign be about your great achievement and hide them. >>dave: he is talking about the 100,000 jobs created claim that romney made. some say that is not true but there are just in numbers to show how many were created or killed. could it tree? it could but we don't know. as for the super pac ad on bain county, look, it was torn apart and the "washington post" gave it four pinocchios on newt gingrich's attack ads. super pac. >>clayton: have you ever heard of the holson photo albums plant in south carolina? ever heard of it? >>alisyn: i had. >>clayton: many folks in gaston, south carolina, say they have never heard of it but this is at the heart of the bain capital argument that the plant was closed as a result of bain capital taking it over. rick perry among the individuals saying that the residents are in pain because of the closing. >> you go to georgetown, south carolina, a couple of cities where bain capital did come in and destruct the companies. people lost their jobs. i will tell you there is a sensitive issue there. >>alisyn: reporters went to the town of 12,000 people and they started, reporters, asking, and what they found was as you said people don't remember this photo album company. and even if they did remember it they did not see when the plant closed and 150 people lost their job so they did not see that as making a big dent. >>clayton: so rick perry is talking to the individuals and the reports, a number of reporters could not find the individuals. >>dave: john roberts tried to find out how bad the pain was from the closing of the plant. >> i am sure it was painful for those that lost the jobs short-term and had to look for work but looking at the records of what happened 25 years ago it was not a significant economic county. >> he may have come in and tried to streamline it and if it was not feasible to keep it open plants will close. that is how capitalism works. >>clayton: so maybe the bain accusations are not carrying weight. or are they? the new polls show that newt gingrich among some of the attacks has gain ground reminiscent of iowa, 98 percent of all negative ads were targeted against newt gingrich and plummeting in the polls so this impact by newt gingrich and rick perry against romney is having resonance. >>dave: they work. >>alisyn: a new research poll shows that mitt romney at 29 percent. he has been leading. and newt gingrich ticked up to 25 percent and the margin of error is four so they are virtually tied. >>dave: but the poll is an outliar for rick santorum i am not taking a lot of stock in now far they have rick santorum falling. he is at 15 percent in another poll. but no doubt, newt gingrich has risen in the polls, negative ads are run because negative as work and in south carolina they are used to them and they are not as turned off by them. >>clayton: we remember what happened to john mccain dug the election with bush in south carolina and recently huckabee and john mccain so interesting ads and it resonates with south carolina voters and rick santorum upon his former friends he has taken a jab at his former friend on the bain capital and says this about newt gingrich. when he was not leadership of the united states house as speaker throw years in the term conservatives tried to throw him out. alternatives don't go out and attack the capitalist system and alternative dozen not promote global warming or argue for individual mandates for the federal government the he tried to distance himself from the bain capital argument and ron paul, also, distancing himself from this argument. >>dave: so much for the truth. >>clayton: a number of republicans have which willed mitt romney who say he has not answered the question on the tax run, were you making the money at the warren buffett rate return and he did not answer the question on bain capital. >>alisyn: we have another four hours to answer the questions. and now other news and get your headlines, the incredible pictures, this looks like a scene from the movie "titanic," a cruiseliner that began sinking after running aground and ripped 165' gash not hull. people say they heard a round "bang," the ship went dark and glass started flying and 4,200 passengers scrambled to get on boats but they could not get interest them because the tilt was so great. three have died. from iraq homicide bomber killing 3 shiite pilgrims overnight and the victims were on the way to a holy shrine and an insurgent blew himself up the latest in a string of attacks directed at the sight muslim community weeks after troops could see the withdrawal from iraq. the trial against john edwards has been pushed back by at least two months, a judge granted the delay because yes gentleman has a heart condition and the judge said they received notice from the doctors the condition is life threatening, and would require surgery next month, and john edwards faced six felony counts for using campaign money to cover were his affair. >> and good news, the f.d.a. is clearing the way for imported orange juice to enter the country since january 4th after illegal chemical was discovered in juice products. three samples from canada showed no residue and results are pending for 28 other shipments that will take two or three weeks. we will talk to a scientist about the next orange juice scare. >> we need it because it is so cold outside. and now maria, with the cold forecast. maria? >> we are back to reality across the northeast. we have been enjoying the mild temperatures. but now we are looking at winter like weather and we picked up quite a bit of snow yesterday and thursday in chicago and upstate new york and ohio but, today, most of the snow winding down and we have lake effect snow showers through basically the afternoon but they will be moving intensity and decreasing coverage so we will see improvement but lasting through the day and also as we head into the first part of sunday. as we head west, that is where the weather will be concentrated with a series of storm systems impacting the area, and that will bring in cold air and stow as low as sea level in the city of chicago. so want out for dangerous driving conditions. we know people in the west, when it starts to rain and snowing, not too good with driving. >>dave: do you shutter when you pump gas and watch the totals go up? a group of bipartisan senators fear the price could go up as much as a quarter a gallon with new epa regulations. will, >>clayton: they are fearful they could be proposed given the state of the national average at $3.39 right now, the national average. because of sulpher content in the gasoline. they argue that getting rid of the silver fakes the technology which they measure gasoline more effective so it is cleaner air. >>alisyn: so the epa is considering the new regulations and a bipartisan group of senators, from landrieu to inhofe have new sent a letter to the epa saying lebanese -- please don't do this when our economy is suffering. please reconsider. don't make this proposal because they thing it would add something like $17 billion upfront to the industry and the industry would pass that along to us. >>clayton: especially right now with the deep freeze as maria talked about and paying more for heating oil. not at a good time. >>dave: let us know highway you feel, should the regulations take a time out? next, costly attack for rick perry. >> companies like bain capital could come in and help the companies if they were venture capitalists. but they're not. they are vulture capitalists. >> those words helped him lose a top donor and we will hear from the former perry supporter. >> chris christie gets personal with oprah. and tears up.
