Maria some Officials Say they saw fire in the sky, dont want to make too many jumps here but something sent that plane crashing into the sea. What are you looking at in terms of what could be a fire in the sky that Officials Say they witnessed. After the eyewitness report of something in the sky, those witnesses, whether there was other collaborating evidence would show it was likely in the area of that aircraft. That said, even this very unusual event of a fire in the sky and disappearance of the aircraft had been close proximity to one another doesnt bode well for the aircraft. The kind of event given the alta to the plane was flying at put it have been taken out by a surface to air missile . Is it more likely there was an object on the plane itself. This is something that could happen but at cruising altitude, 37,000 feet, a shoulder fired missile would not be able to reach that altitude is the kind of technology that would be needed is certainly available in military forces throughout the world but that is not the kind of thing used by insurgent forces. As to other things that could take the aircraft out there is a possibility that could lead to something that could be a strep catastrophic failure, explosion in the sky but lacking other information it is hard to speculate. Apparently the plane was an egyptian airspace. Is anything to be learned from that . Maria ten miles into egyptian airspace. It is unclear whether the event happened in egyptian airspace. Something i heard is airTraffic Controllers, trying to contact the aircraft for some time before it exited communication and it disappeared from radar after they were trying to contact it. Without further coordination between greek and egyptian authorities and other authorities in the area it is unclear where the initiating event may have heard. Dagen how critical is it to find this debris field . The timing of it . How critical is it to find it as soon as possible . Hope may exist, this aircraft did not catastrophically crash. Certainly as soon as any debris can be found the authorities would be able to zero in on possible survivors. If survival is no longer a possibility if there is a debris field that would point to where information may be recovered maria it left charles they gaulle at 11 00 pm in the evening and lost contact with the radar tracking system, 3 hours into the flight and another two hours later, getting this distress call. Benjamin hall from london at fox news, benjamin, what do you make of this distress call coming after the plane had been disconnected from radar. Conflicting reports about that distress call. There was no distress call and civilization Authorities Say it was too early to make that call. We are not sure about that. That is where all the ships are converging, trying to find either debris or ballot boxes, the first ship to get to that point, they cant see anything on the seas, no oil spill you would expect to see in the area but conflicting reports about where the plane came down because of this period of silence, some reports putting a new the island of crete, others near a different island. All the ships in the area are converging on that area and it is a widely traveled widely used body of water, nato naval ships in the area, the us six feet up in naples, they are looking closely at trying to help as they can. That distress call still not confirmed and that would be crucial because it would suggest prior knowledge of what happened but reports also indicate it disappeared off of radar suggesting a catastrophic accident. Whether depressurization of the cabin or an explosion we dont know yet. Where did it get on the plane . Was it charles they gaulle . One of the most heavily protected airports in europe. France has been in lockdown. Maria two things that strike me, let me know what you make of this, witnesses saying they saw fire in the air and there was something of a distress call being debated right now two hours after we lost radar . Dagen leah has been talking about the difference between a distress call and no distress call given the altitude of the plane is the difference between a catastrophic event and explosion, whatever caused the explosion and mechanical failure. Of a distress call suggested mechanical failure. We dont know that there was a distress call. Dagen it wasnt debated. If there was no distress call that suggest something catastrophic that happened fast. In airplane didnt disappear off radar, there are so many different Radar Systems in that area. For it to fall off radar if there was a distress call it doesnt mean something catastrophic didnt happen. Or that there was an explosion on the aircraft. They had some advanced warning. Dagen the size of the explosion, it takes the plane down but if there is a terrorist on board. Maria that is what im trying to understand. We should not pick that apart too much because all the information coming in, we will find some of the reports are incorrect. First there was a distress call, then there wasnt. They said there is a crash, they havent confirmed that. That will happen throughout the morning and we get more information from officials but this report that a witness may have seen aflame in the sky is very telling if true. This person was captain of a merchant ship, who spent a lot of time out at sea who would know the difference between something you would normally see like a meteor shower, shooting star and something completely unusual. It is really important to recognize three things could have happened, something wrong with the airplane that caused it to crash, and explosion, could because inside the plane or outside the plane meaning a bomb on the plane or Something Like a missile hitting the plane and you cant rule that out as well. At that altitude a surfacetoair missile, you would have to have had very advanced equipment. Maria you have to widen your scope if youre putting this in the scope of what we have seen from isis you may need to broaden a little bit, look at the fact the Egyptian Navy has been threatened by terrorist groups, the isis affiliate sinai province claimed to have fired a surface to ship missile at an egyptian ship. It was on fire, they posted pictures that appear to show a missile approaching the ship before it was on fire. Egyptian military disputes it and there are terrorist activities. Dagen i want to introduce the idea of after the russian jetliner went down in late october, within the next month western officials and russian officials said this was terrorism and identified it. It wasnt until february, the president of egypt came out and said this is terrorism. Investigators in the country, the time would not have been acknowledged. One of the possibilities is someone snuck a device on this plane and it exploded in midair. How much better are our security airport people at insuring that kind of thing wont happen . How much better are we at monitoring the people working at our airports . They are not conspiring to do Something Like this here. Trying to adapt to the thread as it happens. Well, certainly more assured, but dont forget when we had a copilot on the german aircraft, you know, that caused problems here several months ago and as you pointed out here earlier when you had the copilot and plane egypt air flying from this part of the world back over there. So it could be one of the crew that would be involved. Maria thats a good point. We are tracking report that is dozen of airport workers in paris were on the terror watch list, lawrence. Thats right. You would hope that the procedures in paris would be better than thirdworld country. The fact of the matter that if its one of the workers, one of the citizens of the country who happened to be radicalized for one reason or another, this could be something that you can completely control. Again, that is very unlikely given the fact that isis doesnt have any planes and youre not worried about them and this plane was not going into their air space, it was going out of it, going towards egypt. Well, i think as you mentioned right in the beginning the egyptian Prime Minister is not ruling anything out, but given the fact that mr. Trump is the presumptive nominee you would hope he would be a little bit more cautious and Say Something dont want to exclude anything, lets ensure its not, but, you know, when you say it looks like i mean, everybody around the world is paying attention to him now. Maria right, right. So we know that this flight lost contact over the radar after entering egyptian air space and disappeared in radar 174miles from the egyptian coast. The search is underway, lawrence, what are you looking at in terms of most important, what do you need to hear from the search and rescue team . What you want to hear basically we want to make sure if theres any people still alive that we can get them, but basically, you know, what does it look like, does it look like an explosion, does it look like a mechanical failure, does the plane broke on impact or even before it landed . Maria egypt air tweeted earlier that the military search and rescue received a distress call from the airplane emergency equipment, i recognize that this is being debated about this distress call, but this is from egypt air. Till this day the 1998 crash, the plane that took the copilot crashed the plane, to this day egypt officials deny it was the copilot. He cant see any oil slicks as you would have expected. This plane coming down from 37,000 feet might be spread over a large area. That 37,000 feet is interesting because the weather was calm there, the pilot was experienced, the plane had had a maintenance test just last wednesday and so real thing pointing not to act of god, weather issue but perhaps something more sinister. The plane was 8320 and had been in service about 12 years. If you add those things together and lastly the fact of the manifest of this aircraft saw that it went through all kinds of airports in the last few days, luxor, many of these airports are not airports in the western standard of security screening. It is very suspicious. Maria you are saying because the plane had gone through so many Different International airports something could have been transported on that plane, witnesses on the ground said they saw fire in the sky suggesting it could have been an explosion. What do you make of the fact the plane was so close to landing in cairo, 30 minutes away from landing, why then in the journey that we see this fire or some explosion take place . Remember terrorism at its core is about the spread of fear. Terrorists went as many people afraid as possible. They want symbolism. Look at 9 11. They had the twin towers, they had the pentagon. Their third target wasnt the white house but the capital. That symbolism to generate fear. My take is all about egypt. Think this incident, terror or otherwise, destablizes egypt further. It is on its back economically and divided politically. I think this worsens the situation which could in turn add to the migrant crisis. If egypts economy collapses, and that is distinct possibility, more people are pushed into the boats crossing mediterranean to go into europe. My first look at egypt, destablized, worsens the migrant crisis. In turn, flatout, i think that helps donald trump. He is the only guy who is talking about what are we going to do in the security situation. Everybody else is tap dancing around it. Nobody say islamic terror. Trump jumps right in and well have a temporary halt of muslims coming to america. Well figure out what is going on. He looks like the guy who has got it at this point. Look, the admiral around others are absolutely correct. Again you have to look at every possibility.
